Tranquil Respite [V-Day Thread w/Misaki]

There was always a place for Toki at the humble little cafes that dotted Cat Street. During his stays here in the human world, Toki preferred to relax with some snacks and tea while working on his writing and college papers. Despite all of his adventures and his abilities, in the end Toki still felt a responsibility to his life here as well. As such he worked hard on getting through college and perhaps make a living as a writer and poet. Maybe he would even take over for his father's dojo as well and become even more secure.
Today, however, was not to reflect on careers and personal finance. It was to meet someone. The two had arranged to meet at a quiet corner cafe nestled into Cat Street for a date. While Toki wasn't necessarily experienced in dating or romance, he figured he could at least try to meet people. Who knows what could happen? He was in no rush, though he worried that his inexperience with this sort of thing could make things awkward or just not fun for the other person. With a deep breath, he calmed himself before he could spiral into anxiety and worry. None of that today, thanks.
To be honest he was excited to meet this person. However today went, he was sure the two of them would at the very least become friends. Would this other person know of the Digital World? If so that would be a blessing. He couldn't imagine how strange it would be to either keep that side hidden or have to explain it. For Toki, personally, he would never keep such a thing hidden from someone important to him. That would only lead to unnecessary pain and hardship down the road since his life was linked to that world now. It was too important for him to just abandon and he felt he would be doing people a disservice keeping it hidden away.

She probably could have been a little earlier, to be perfectly honest. But... there was that one strand of hair that was out of place. Sure... it would have been easier to ignore it - it wasn't like her date was going to notice that it was out of place, but it just seemed wrong for her to go out like that. After all, she was trying her best to look as presentable as possible. After all, Misaki wasn't exactly going to be impressing him with witty conversation. The least she could do was ensure that she was appealing as eye candy, right?
So... Misaki ran a little late. But it was fine, probably. After all, anyone unwilling to wait a bit for a date probably wasn't worth dating in the first place. And this guy... she forgot how she got set up with him. A friend of a friend's coworker's classmate or something. It wasn't really important. Hell, who she was dating wasn't nearly as important for her than the fact that she was dating, if only because she had never done it before. And the young woman wanted to experience it. She wanted to feel what it was like to draw closer to someone over the course of their time spent with each other, and to wonder if they were feeling the same.
And if he turned out to be a creep, well... she wouldn't mind getting experience in that regard, either. Could she make up an excuse to leave on the spot? All kinds of scenarios played through her head as she hoofed it up to Cat Street. She normally didn't come this way, though she wondered why that was. The scenery here was downright pleasant for her. Maybe she would try and come up here more often.
But she hadn't found him quite yet. Hell, she didn't even know what her date looked like. So Misaki just looked around nearby, rather restlessly, dressed in clothes that were perhaps a bit too light for mid-February, yet she didn't seem to be too bothered by it. And on a black purse hung a strange-looking device, white and light red in color. Those who didn't know what it was would just think it's some weird accessory, while those that did would understand who and what she was.
Hmm... did that mean Misaki was a hipster now? She was hanging out in Cat Street, after all.

Toki wasn't exactly hard to pick out from a crowd given his complexion and his height. He was taller than a lot of people around here, though his gentle expression gave few people reason to be intimidated by him. He continued his idle writings and tapped the end of his pen against his lip for a moment until he spotted a girl walk into the cafe. He wondered if she was who he was supposed to meet. He looked at the device hanging from her bag and his eyes widened a bit. He stood up and walked towards her. Given that he was a good foot taller than her, he stayed a reasonable distance away "Excuse me." He said in a soft tone of voice. "Are you Misaki Fujimoto, by chance?" He asked with a warm smile. "It's nice to meet you. My name is Toki Akiyama." He bowed his head politely.
Once confirmed, he would guide her to the table he was sitting at and sat back down. He could tell that she had taken a little extra time to get ready for the date and figured a compliment was in order "You look nice today. Do you want to order anything right now or talk for a little bit first? Either way is perfectly fine with me." He said.
"Ah...and I couldn't help but notice..." He reached into his bag for a moment and put his own digivice on the table. "This saves a lot of explaining on my part." He said with a bit of a chuckle. "We're both familiar with...that other world, hm?" It seemed the both of them shared a similar model of Digivice. She was a Spirit User too. A strange coincidence, but very interesting nonetheless. His Digivice was primarily blue like the night sky with white accents. "Just know that if you need any advice or help...I'll be more than happy to provide it if you so choose." He offered sincerely.
Still, he didn't want to bog down what was supposed to be a date with such serious talk. "Forgive me...that's an...awkward topic for today. I'm not very accustomed to dating, so forgive me if I seem a bit awkward. If I do anything to upset you or anything, please let me know." Despite his nerves he seemed calm. Tranquil, even. "Either way, my only hope is that our time together today is nice and means something to the both of us."

It didn't take very long for someone to approach her. He was well over a foot taller than her, tanned skin, and long hair. He looked a little effeminate, but in an appealing way. And standing out through his tanned skin was a scar down his lips. If this guy wasn't who Misaki was supposed to be dating, well... she may have to change her plans. But lucky for her, he introduced himself as Toki. Which was the guy she was supposed to be meeting. She didn't say anything, but she nodded when he asked if she was Misaki. He spoke gently, and stayed a respectable distance away. After he bowed his head, Misaki returned it by giving a small bow of her own.
So far in the few seconds that they met he was being a perfect gentleman. No checking her out her features (not that she would have minded, though. She was trying to make herself look appealing, after all!), and was quick to guide her to a seat. He even complemented her on her appearance, instead of commenting on her punctuality. And if he seemed upset at her late arrival, he certainly didn't seem to show it.
So far, so good. And then, much to Misaki's surprise, he put his own little accessory on display. For a second, she was taken aback. She had met other humans with Digimon before, but not in the human world, and most certainly not by coincidence. And his Digivice looked similar in shape to Misaki's. Does that mean that he was a Spirit-user as well? Well, he certainly seemed to think he was hot stuff, though. Almost immediately he began to offer his advice is she so chose. She smiled politely and gently shook her head. It... really wasn't why either of them were here, right?
But thankfully, he managed to catch on to that. And while his words were the words of a nervous man on an awkward date, he Toki himself seemed perfectly calm. It was a little jarring, honestly. But... Misaki couldn't exactly throw stones in that regard. So... she might as well rip off the band-aid and explain why she was being awfully quiet. She took out a notepad and scribbled down something fairly quickly, tearing out the piece of paper and offering it to Toki. It read...
sorry if im quiet. 6 years ago, grandpa and I started a silence contest. grandpa ended up getting a heart attack, but im still determined to win
She gave Toki a playful smile before pulling out her phone and showing a relatively recent selfie with an elderly man that was presumably her grandfather. In the picture, Misaki was holding what looked to be a magazine with a picture of herself posing on and an advertisement page, taken not long before she moved from Hokkaido, though there was no way Toki would have known that. Then she slipped him another note.
jk hes not really dead im just mute

Toki was nothing if not extraordinarily patient. He knew people had things come up or other circumstances that would lead to them running a bit late. It wasn't a bother to him in the slightest. He was a little embarrassed about bringing up advice and such. He's so used to the Digital World and helping people it came across as second nature to him, though he realized that it wasn't appropriate for all situations, especially not something like this. Still, the two of them moved on from the topic no worse for it.
Misaki seemed the quiet sort, but that was alright. He would give her the time and space needed to go at her own pace. Though when she took out a notepad, he tilted his head slightly. He accepted the paper and gave it a read over. Immediately he could tell it was a joke after reading the end bit and seemed somewhat amused at the dark sense of humor.
He looked at the picture with her and her grandpa. He took note of the magazine and nodded in understanding. Then he read her follow up message "I figured it was a joke. If you're mute, that doesn't bother me at all. Far be it from me to judge you for something like that, especially something that's out of your control."
"So you're a model, then?" He asked. "I'll admit I'm a little clueless on that sort of thing, but I'm happy to hear you've found something you really enjoy doing. I think you'll do great at it." He said encouragingly. He wouldn't go into what his plans and aspirations were unless asked. He felt it would be rude to suddenly divert the conversation to be about himself. "What got you into modeling? I'm curious to hear that story."

Again, Toki seemed to be the extraordinarily patient type. So much so that Misaki impulsively felt the need to see how far that patience would last. But... hijinks and practical jokes would have to wait. Maybe if there was ever a second date she would be a little more playful. Instead, Misaki wanted to focus on the date at hand. After all, it was one of the first time anyone was willing to listen to her since coming to Tokyo. It might come as a shock, but being a model can make people dismissive of your opinions. And being mute can make it difficult to even get someone's attention in the first place. So for right now, Misaki was glad to have someone, a stranger, at that, be willing to look at her and ask her about herself. It was... awkward, and a little exhilarating.
He seemed to notice the magazine she was holding and deduced her profession pretty quickly. And when he asked how she got into it in the first place, she smiled and silently laughed for a second before writing.
back home there was this creepy guy that liked to hit on girls by hanging around my high school and inviting them to join his "modeling agency". police and security would chase him away but he would always come back. my freshman year he approached me one day and i thought for the first time that maybe i could be a model. i didnt join the creepy guys agency but i did make a portfolio and-
Misaki sighed before shaking her head and crumpling up the paper. She didn't think the details were all that important. So instead she wrote...
i was never able to be heard all my life but i want to be seen. i got lucky with puberty cuz when i was still in high school a bunch of people started telling me that i was pretty. so even if all people think they see is some red-headed bimbo in a magazine, i want to be noticed. i guess that makes me shallow but i dont care because its who i am and im not ashamed.
She handed Toki the note and gulped. Then came the wait. When you spoke, people's reactions were immediate. But when she communicated like this, it was always so nerve-wracking. Watching someone read your messages, and seeing their face change as they read. She wasn't sure what he was going to think of that, so as she waited for a response she wrote down another note. It helped to move conversations along faster.
but enough about me. what do you do when youre not chilling at cafes and "listening" to young ladies talk about themselves all the time?

Toki waited for Misaki to be finished with whatever it was she wanted to write. He was a tad concerned when she crumpled up one paper and started again, though he wouldn't pressure her about it. He decided to order tea for the both of them while he waited. Perhaps that could help calm her nerves.
Once she was finished writing, he gave it a careful reading. He mused about it for a moment and thought about how to respond "There's no shame in wanting to be recognized or validated in the slightest. Anyone who thinks poorly of you for that desire are honestly the true shallow ones in that case. You shouldn't be ashamed of what makes you happy. If it's something you want to do with your life, then reach out to it. Strive for it."
He then read the note asking more about himself "Me? Well I'll admit I'm not the most interesting person in the world aside from my...escapades on the other side of the veil, so to speak. I'm an aspiring writer and poet...though I'm also in line to inherit my family's martial arts dojo back in Ishikawa, though father says I can choose to make my own path...it's still something I'm heavily considering."
There was a pause as he considered what else to talk about "I'm not very versed in a lot of pop culture, though I've been trying to fix that. I love reading, playing games on my spare time...and I've got a sweet tooth like you wouldn't believe. Mochi is probably my favorite." He said, and muttered a slight "Kind of fitting, to be honest..." in regards to his spirits being moon rabbit themed. "Most of all though...I just like seeing people safe, content, and happy. That's all I really want out of life. People say I should look out for myself more!" He laughed. "Maybe I should...but I can never leave someone in trouble if there's something I can do."

And not long after Toki finished reading Misaki's note and giving his opinion, their tea had arrived. Welp, it was certainly a relief, though Misaki didn't particularly drink tea. In general caffeinated drinks tended to get her a little too wired up, and even the decaf stuff seemed to do the trick. She politely nodded and smiled, but didn't touch her drink.
Misaki nodded along, nodding and smiling at appropriate times. Shockingly, the mute girl was an excellent listener, and she followed along with everything Toki said when he talked about himself. And she tried to read in between the lines. So he's too busy taking care of other people that he likely forgets about taking care of himself. Was that because he valued other people so much, or because he valued himself so little. Misaki thought that there was a big difference between the two.
But the fact that Toki was a kind soul remained true regardless. And that was comforting for her. When he looked at her, he didn't stare at uncomfortable places, like so many other people in her line of work. Instead, he was picking up little details instead. Hell, he probably noticed that she wasn't touching her drink, but it's not like that could be helped.
Misaki didn't scribble any comments about his interests, but it wasn't like she couldn't identify. Personally, Misaki loved cake, German chocolate cake to be precise, but sweets and sugary foods in general were something she had to keep to a bare minimum these days. Her appearance was her selling point, after all, and sadly, drastic and unreasonable expectations for one's body image was still selling. But Misaki did feel the need respond to his last couple comments, however.
i understand how good it feels to make other people happy even if it's just helping someone with the little things so even if its troublesome sometimes if you like it then i think its okay. i think we need the troublesome moments to remind us how happy we really are sometimes. She smiled as she wrote the next sentence. 'sides, someone recently told me that you shouldnt be ashamed of what makes you happy.
She passed the note over with a sly smile on her face. And much to her delight, she didn't seem nearly as nervous about it this time.

He figured he would order that drink just to be safe. If she didn't want it then that was no bother to him. As for Toki's own desire to help others, he had run the gambit on why he did it. At first it was for validation. Then it was because he didn't really value his own safety over others...now? Now he truly enjoyed helping others for its own sake. He valued the lives of those around him, but he also knew that to take care of others, he'd have to take care of himself and show himself the same love and care he gave others.
He read her latest note with a bright and warm smile "Helping others and shining a light on their day, no matter how big or small, is an important thing. All you have to do is provide little kindnesses from time to time, and things will go forward. The difficult times definitely put happy times into perspective. I've been through a lot of trying times...but I've vowed to myself and others that I would climb back out of the dark every time. I owe that to myself, and to..." He would from for a moment "...let's just say for now, a dear friend that's gone now. I'm happy with my life now and where I am. What I do. It took a long time to get to that point but I guess it just goes to show how a lot of hard work can really make a person change for the better."
He nodded at the last sentence "There's no shame in doing what you enjoy, that's for sure. If you're living what you feel to be your best life, then go for it. It's no one's place to judge your happiness." He said with a nod. "One's appearance is normally something I don't take stock in when thinking about someone's character, but I will never judge someone who pursues fashion and personal beauty. I'd be lying if I said I didn't sometimes try to look or sound cool in my line of work." He said with a bit of a blush, stroking his chin.
"Oh! Is there anything you'd like to order, or are you good for now?" He said as he looked through the menu. "Forgive my tendency to ramble. It's a habit."

Misaki nodded as Toki elaborated further on his kindness and approval of Misaki's own. And though he didn't go into details, he spoke about his trouble and tribulations. As well as a dearly departed friend. And that wasn't something Misaki could relate to very well. Most people in her family were very much alive and happy, and those that weren't were people that she had barely known or had never met. But the young woman could empathize, and she scribbled down something for him to read later.
i dont think that being unhappy is a bad thing. sadness needs to be there to make our happiness that much more significant. life needs pain and struggles to be life. it sounds corny but i still think its true. sorry for your loss btw
And he spoke up about his own sense of vanity, and she smiled and chuckled in complete silence. She brushed her hair back behind her ear with her fingers as she wrote another note down with a smirk on her face.
its a yin-yang relation ship imo. caring about your appearance can give you the confidence to be your best self. but you still need to be a good person or else it wont matter how good looking you are. There was a brief pause before she continued. i know it sounds bad when you think that youre attractive but when i started thinking that i suddenly realized that i was a happier and better person cause of it. that i could be the nice person i thought i was. being mindful of how you look to others can be a form of kindness imo. cuz its saying that you care about other people and their opinion of them. that other people matter to you. its important to love yourself but other people are also important. tho i think sometimes people take it too far.
And as for ordering food and drinks... Misaki simply shook her head. She honestly wasn't here for the food. Other than a glass of water, she would be fine. And if she really did get hungry, she would just see how much food she could steal from her date without him noticing!

He smiled sweetly at Misaki's next note. "Thank you. And you're right. There's nothing wrong with being unhappy. We're all in bad places from time to time and sometimes we have to deal with that. That unhappiness has its purpose. It could help us realize how important those around us are, and how much we need love and support when things aren't going well. It puts the better times into perspective, for sure."
"Oh absolutely." He said in response to the note about confidence and being a good person. "Looking your best can work wonders for your self-esteem, but it's definitely important to stay humble or at the very least keep one's ego in check." He continued to read and kept his understanding expression. "That sort of self confidence can do a lot." He thought about the later parts of the note for a moment "Hm...I honestly haven't considered that viewpoint...being mindful of yourself and how you present yourself to others as an act of kindness...the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me." He said with a nod. "Being proud of one's looks and being vain on such things are two entirely different matters. I can tell that you're the sort who is proud, but surely not arrogant or mean-spirited about it. I find that very admirable."
As for what Toki would order, he would order a sandwich and a couple of sides that were easy to share if Misaki so wished. He chuckled to himself "You know you've spent too much time there if every day and normal life feels so surreal. It's nice to take a moment to sit down and rest for a while. Maybe I'm overworking myself." He said as he rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Yeah...I'm definitely overworking myself. It took my a while but I'm finally starting to look after my own health as well and taking the time to manage my own wellbeing."

To be perfectly honest, Misaki's wrist was beginning to ache. She typically preferred texting over handwritten notes, but it felt more like a special occasion so she went with the old-fashioned style. Plus, she didn't like the computerized voice that sounded out her words. Just wasn't sexy enough, really. And if she typed the message in her phone and let Toki read it... well... passing her phone back and forth wasn't always the safest thing to do, really. It was... just so frustrating. There was no way for Misaki to ever truly enjoy communicating with someone. She never learned to sign, and even if she did, it would be all but useless to most people. And texting people would just... get weird. People feel the need to text back instead of talking, even though Misaki's just a few feet away. Like, "hello? just use your voice! it works, unlike mine!"
But... even though conversations like this were a pain, she didn't want it to end, either. She liked "talking" to Toki. He was incredibly accepting of her words. And it could be hard to find someone to listen to her. So she began writing again.
i think kindness can come in many forms. doing good deeds is one way, obviously, but sometimes something as a smile and acknowledgement of their existence can go a long way, too. maybe not everyone's conventionally attractive, but i just see it as any other skill or talent, tbh. i know im not smart enough to cure cancer or athletic enough to entertain a massive audience, and despite my best efforts, i cant get my singing career to pick up for some reason lol.
Misaki listened as Toki explained his rather unusual predicament. She was still new, and she honestly focused more on her life in the human world than fully explored the Digital World, honestly. Right now, owning a Digivice was more like a hobby for her. Maybe she would get more involved, and she would be lying if she wasn't curious to see how deep the Digital Rabbit Hole went, but it wasn't something that had quite taken ahold of Misaki just yet. But looking at Toki, who had likely seen it all twice, she wondered if it was something more to it than just some place to explore. Was he always like this, or did his experiences in the other world mold him into the man he was today?
And if Misaki did the same thing... what kind of person would she become? Well... that wasn't a question she wanted an answer to just yet. So she wrote once more.
being tired isnt always a bad thing imo. sometimes it means that youre working yourself too hard and you need to rest but other times it just means youre following along with your passions. resting is important but doing the things that make to need to rest is important too. but its good that youre taking care of yourself now. and hopefully you can always relax at a cafe with a good-looking woman at your side. i can guarantee that they'll enjoy your company ;-)
She laughed quietly as she passed him the note. She was on a date, after all. What was wrong with a bit of flirting?

There was that dry humor coming through again, but Toki still chuckled softly at it. She was someone who knew her limitations. What she was good at, what she wasn't so good at. "To me, everyone has the capacity to be beautiful in their own way. Conventional beauty can be...a dangerous thing to adhere to. I've met a lot of people who were bullied for not living up to some kind of standard...and that breaks my heart. For those who are hurt and need a little light in their lives...I do my best to give them a comforting smile. Just a little reassurance that someday, everything will work out and be okay."
He blushed slightly and rubbed the back of his head bashfully. "O-oh." He wasn't entirely sure what to say. If there was one thing that made him flustered it was the idea of flirting. "I truly appreciate that. I'm doing my best to live up to what I believe in and make my dreams a reality. They're a long way off, but I have a lot of friends and loved ones who will support me through thick and thin. I...appreciate that I can count on your support as well, Misaki. I-I'm...glad that you've been enjoying my company. I have been enjoying yours as well. Sorry, I'm not very good at this." He laughed nervously. Still he wasn't clueless or dense. He knew that Misaki was enjoying the company, and he was glad that she was.
Toki was still, at the end of the day, a person. Moments like this were valuable to him because this reminded him of that fact. He was never the sort to delude himself into thinking he was anything more than a person like everyone else. He might be powerful and have access to abilities people could only dream of, but that didn't inherently make him superior to anyone. He wanted to remain that humble, always.
"It's nice to share moments like this with others...it really is." He smiled. "Beautiful moments with amazing people...this is what I live for." He said happily as he drank more tea. As the food arrived, he began to eat and appreciate the moment further. While he wished he knew what else to say, sometimes it was best to simply enjoy the moment.

Misaki chuckled in silence as she watched Toki's awkward reaction. Honestly, the man was so straightforward and honest that it was fun teasing him. Not that Misaki didn't mean every word she wrote. He was comforting and supportive, and it wasn't something Misaki was quite used to, but something she could most definitely grow accustomed to. She was nervous about going on a date at first, but... she was glad her first one was with Toki. She wasn't sure how he felt about her, really, other than being enjoyable company, and she wasn't sure how things were going to go from here.
But it was clear that Toki was someone who liked to discuss well... something along the lines of philosophy, she supposed? He had quite a bit of positive rhetoric, though. He said he was a writer. She wondered if he ever tried to write a self-help book? He certainly seemed to have the foundation to do so. She could tell that what Toki was saying wasn't just empty platitudes, but rather revelations he managed to grasp a hold of from his experiences from his life here and... the other world.
Still, even if it didn't seem like stuff you'd talk about on a first date, she was interested in this rhetoric as well. Besides, whoever wrote the rules on first dates probably never had these two in mind, anyway. They weren't such shallow people.
i think its true that theres more than one form of beauty, kind of like how different people are smart in different ways. but its all a gift. i would really like to believe that conventional beauty, be it from hard work, plastic surgery, or just being born like that is no different from having a good singing voice or being good at sports. some people are just naturally good at it and others have to work really hard to achieve results. but talent or whatever is just a tool. but people put too much emphasis on appearances. cuz...
She took a moment to rub her wrist and collect her thoughts. She didn't get very many opportunities to actually "voice" her opinions on this kind of matter very often, and frankly, she was kind of thrilled to be able to do so.
we dont live long enough to get to know everyone we meet on a deep and personal level, right? our appearance is the first and only thing most people we meet will know about us. even if we dont realize it outright we kinda just assume that and make sure we look appropriate. so tv shows and magazines and websites tell us how to look so everyone will accept us superficially. women have to be demure, thin, and feminine so men will want us. and guys need to be strong, reliable, and worthy of our attention.
its like the worst parts of nature and nurture all wrapped into one ugly ball of an insecure mess when put into a hormonal teenager's head it makes them think all kinds of twisted stuff. like being pretty means youre better than someone who's not. or when you see someone you think is pretty and you just assume they're vain and stupid. i was kind of a late bloomer in school, so ive had to face the problems from both ends. each side has its own problems, and being conventionally attractive has nothing to do with it.
i think it all comes down to confidence in the end. maybe being good looking makes you more confident, but regardless, when someone with a bad mindset has confidence, they tend to do bad things. and when someone with a good mindset has confidence good things tend to happen. i guess thats a little simplistic but its what ive been thinking lately. sorry if i rambled on too much. all this talking has made me kind of thirsty though.
She passed over the note to Toki, waited a moment for him to read it, then drank down a big gulp from her glass of water. And when they ate in silence, she would pass him another note or two, generally along the lines of "this note is a distraction" and "if youre reading this then your fries are in danger" before not-so-subtly reaching across the table and grabbing some of his sides.

Toki had always heard that in order to get into a relationship, a man had to be assertive and overbearing. This was something that Toki always just laughed off, much to the annoyance of his peers. All that showed was an insecurity in one's true personality. Kindness, empathy, and a willingness to be loving and nurturing is the basis of finding the right one for oneself. He was never one to hide his emotions or his feelings about people. It was unhealthy to do so in his eyes.
Toki thought about this next note for a time and nodded along to some of the points made. "Judging someone solely on appearance is a sign of immaturity, really. While yes first impressions are important, if you're meeting someone it's important to keep who they are at the front of their mind. Their likes, dislikes, philosophies...everyone has their own sense of style and what's fashionable to them! Someone's talents are also invaluable. People deserve to shine bright with their skills regardless of what they may be, though that's something many struggle with. It's not easy putting your work out there...which is why I admire what you do, Misaki. Modeling must have been scary at first. I know I'd be nervous...but here you are! You did something hard, and it's working out." He said with a bright smile.
He read through the next message and hung on each word. Misaki's insights and beliefs resonated with his own. Media, while fun to enjoy and partake in, had the dangers of imparting harmful mindsets to those impressionable. That men and women had to act in specific ways to be considered desirable. That was nonsense to Toki. No one had to act in any particular way to be worthy of love and attention. He nodded "You're absolutely right. Confidence is a tool. It's how you decide to use it. There's good and bad ways to use...well, pretty much anything. And please, don't worry about rambling. I like listening."
He quirked an eyebrow at the next notes, then glanced up, then at his plate. "Okay, that was good." He laughed as he continued to eat as well. Maybe all this philosophy talk was a bit much, but he couldn't really help it. He was enjoying the conversation all the same. Misaki had viewpoints and values he found fascinating. As for how he felt about her, he wasn't entirely sure. Could one really find out so quickly? At the very least he enjoyed her company and the conversations they were sharing.
