“What are doing here, again?” A fair question, considering the situation at hand. Old Terminus was by no means a safe area, and Magnus’ group was by no means lacking in the money department for them to take such a dangerous job. Yet, out of every member of the group, Akemi had surprisingly been the stubborn one regarding this.
“I-I feel like it’s d-dangerous to leave th-things like that roaming around f-freely. They c-could cause so m-much damage.”
As good as a reason as any, all things considered. Out of all the army’s members, the Numemon X was pretty set on the compassionate side; probably not as much as Mai, but that was kind of a tall order. “I wholeheartedly agree with Miss Akemi. I’m glad somebody is caring enough to lend a hand in a matter as potentially serious as this one.”
Magnus groaned, but he didn’t dare to reply back. Arguing with Mai was like trying to escape quicksand; the more you tried, the faster you sank. So, instead, he nodded at her. “Fair enough. I guess that at least everyone’s on board with the plan.”
Mai smiled confidently, Akemi less so. The rest? Katherine and Miyu? They had been pretty excited about the whole ordeal; almost as if it were their idea! But that made sense, considering Miyu’s thrill-seeking tendencies and Katherine’s penchant for adventuring. Sasha was giving the group a quizzical, but that probably ebbed from the fact she hardly understood the situation, despite the explanations provided. “We should go already! Wouldn’t want to keep whatever broke out of containment waiting, you know?”
Probably signal enough. The human and the quintet of holosuited digimons began to tread the city’s underbelly; it wasn’t the nicest of places, but that was more or less of a given, wasn’t it? “Wait.” Sasha’s robotic monotone pierced the relative silence. “Wasn’t another human supposed to join our group? The Leomon that gave us the job said something like that.”
Everyone froze on their spots at the comment, only Magnus daring to comment. “Oh. Yeah. You’re right. We should probably wait for them. Hope they’ll show up soon.”
If anything, waiting in a place as dangerous as this one didn’t sound like the best of ideas for anyone involved.

ANOTHER day in the weird digital world. ANOTHER chance to prove how totally awesome, she really was.
It had happened a day ago. Just after the little explosion-in-waiting had got back into town after ‘dealing with the Goblimon’. A problem that she had totally caused for herself. Although, she’d got to meet some cool people and digimon out of it.
Hinoka had been walking around the town without much of an aim. Maybe, she’d find somewhere she could actually live one of these days. After all, living out in a tent was such a pain in the…
And then, bang! The clumsy little idiot crashed face first into a what felt like a wall of muscle. Hinoka looked up and her crimson eyes found the mane of a lion, connected to a human-like body. Great.
“Uhhh,” Hinoka said to herself. Jumping backwards and holding her wand out stretched. “I am the great Hinoka! An almighty Arch Wizard and wielder of the strongest form of magic! I’m sure that you have heard of me!”
But the Leomon had merely laughed, but, not in a nasty way. At least she didn’t think so. As she had clearly impressed him with her potential and power! Even in her human form!
Then, the great lion Digimon had asked for join in on some kind of job, which was one person short. So here we are…
Hinoka had purposely waited for a short time, hiding away and out of sight. Old Terminus City was the remains and ruin of a city that had been build long ago… or at least so she had been told. So, naturally, it had plenty of places to hide until the time was right.
The little Arch Wizard peered out from behind a tall stone pillar. Just waiting for the right words to be said. There was a group of them, just over the way. Seemed to be a mixed group of girls and guys. Although from this angle and distance, she could tell for sure. Either way! Hinoka waited, hidden. Ears pricked and ready to do what she did best.
Soon enough, the group of people said exactly what she had been waiting for.
Hinoka ran out and jumped! Landing right in the middle of the group. Her cloak billowing from the free fall. Her wand, a stick torn from a tree, held over her head, impressively.
“There is no need to wait any longer! Because I am here. I am...” Grinning, Hinoka paused for dramatic effect.
“I am the great Arch Wizard known as Hinoka! Wielder of the greatest magic known to Digimon and mankind. I am at your service or are you at mine?”
She waited for the reply of the group she had fallen into. Keeping to her pose, a impressed with herself grin plastered across her face.

It was only then that in an —extremely— timely way, the last member of their group had made their presence known. That had been quite the introduction, all things considered. Magnus stared blankly at the girl, all while Akemi stepped back to hide behind the male’s back and Miyu stepped forward, a curious expression evident on her face.
“You sure you are?” She asked, inquisitively. “I know the Arch Wizard myself and you don’t lo-ow!” In a not so subtle gesture, an elbow had sharply jabbed her back.
Who could’ve been the culprit of such an action, and why did Mai repeat that with the male next? It was hard to guess, but at the same time it wasn’t. The brunette jolted into action, making a fancy hand gesture, which probably was equal to a greeting in some universe.
“Ah, yes, I see.” It was borderline amazing how his voice could adopt a grandiose tone. “A worthy companion for our upcoming quest. Welcome, Arch-Wizard, my name is Magnus…”
He seemed to ponder for some seconds if the step he was going to make next was the correct one, but at Katherine’s excited expression, he guessed he had to. Sides, what was wrong with harmless fun? “The Red. Daemon Prince of the Architect of Fate, and leader of the Thousand.” A small hand gesture was made towards his companions. Some rapid thought was required!
“Katherine the Knowledgeable, Akemi the Ageless, Miyu the Magnificient, Sasha the Sophisticated, and Mai the Magnanimous.” At least one giggle couldn’t be contained at the sappy theatricals, but that was fine. The girls proceeded to wave at Hinoka and to mutter various greetings. “Now that you have finally joined our company, we can proceed to cleanse this blighted land of a cryptic danger. Shall we go forth, then?”
Unless they missed something, or unless Hinoka had a reason to make the group stay where they were, it was safe to assume that their journey into Old Terminus could begin. “I might be impolite to ask, but why is a fair lady like the Arch-Wizard bothering herself with matters below her stature, such as this one? Is this part of some sort of hidden research project, or maybe a cover operation?” Maybe he was even outdoing himself at the moment! “I’d be delighted to hear about it.”

Impressed with own entry, Hinoka waited. A grin plastered all over her face. But she need not wait long. A myriad of introductions were soon underway. Hinoka missed the jibe from Miyu about her not being the actual Arch Wizard, due to a long inner monologue of thought running through her head. She was pre-planning the speech for her explosion. It needed to be extra-specially amazing to impress upon these… mortals! That her power rivals that of the gods themselves.
But, anyway. This ‘team’ or whatever they were introduced themselves. It wasn’t until Magnus and the others added a series of adjectives to their names that Hinoka interest in this ragtag group really grew. “I see. I see,” Hinoka said, nodding her head.
“You’re all quite impressive. I get it, now. Maybe less than some. But that’s to be expected when you stand before greatness!”
The young Arch Wizard exclaimed, throwing her cloak out in what she thought was a very epic production of her wizardiness.
“I am very happy to join you for this most arduous quest!”
It wasn’t until the question was asked that Hinoka realized that she didn’t really know much about this quest. What they were doing or why. She had just joined to look really impressive and cool to that lion digimon.
Actually now she thought about it the Leomon has told her very little in return. Only that there was something dangerous that had broken out and the team that was sent to deal with the situation was one person short.
He had totally set her up! Set her up for failure. So rude!
“Well, that’s not gonna stop me,” Hinoka thought to herself. “I’m the best Arch Wizard in the entire Digital World! There isn’t anything I can’t do!”
Trying to look like she knew what she was doing. Hinoka stepped forward and with an impressive-looking (to Hinoka) cloak ruffle turned on the spot. “That is… classified. I am afraid. I can’t divulge such information until I am very sure why I am here. From what I know there is something… dangerous? Big and dangerous? Breaking free? Yeah?”
Her words became less confident as they went on and more filled with a nervous apprehension as Hinoka tried to gather more information.

Magnus wasn’t… really sure on how to react towards his newest companion’s attitude. On one hand, it was pretty endearing —in an admittedly weird way—, but on the other there was also a measure of concern regarding the sustainability of such an act as a way of life. However, as fascinating as it was, the nature of the eighth-grade syndrome wasn’t something to be discussed in a potentially dangerous place like this one.
Sides, playing along had its own quota of fun, didn’t it? It was something that, at least for the time being, Magnus didn’t mind doing. However, some of Hinoka’s words weren’t taken in the best of ways by some of the brunette’s entourage.
“Speak for yourself.” Katherine answered, right away. “I ate three Arch Wizards for breakfast, and I wouldn’t mind adding a fourth if she ends up being disrespectful, you know? Being boastful just adds to the taste~.” Sure, the statement was half-joking, half serious, but it’d probably serve as a warning to not being dismissive of them! It didn’t matter who Hinoka was to the Shakomon.
Funnily enough, Akemi seemed visibly distraught at the implied threat that wasn’t even directed at her. “S-Sis!” She reprimanded. Well, if that could even be called a reprimand; her tone wasn’t being stern at all. “D-Don’t go around th-threatening Arch Wi-Wizards like that. Th-The last one didn’t like that a-at all…”
While the male was no doubt entertained by the sudden antics that the group developed the actual adult Mai was already placing a pair of conciliatory hands on Hinoka and Katherine’s shoulders. “Come on~. Let’s just get along! I’m sure that we all can become friends! Just like Hinoka said, we’re all happy to participate in this epic quest together, don’t we?”
The fancy words elicited a groan from Miyu, who was quite impatient by now. “Can we just go already? You can settle your differences while we search for whatever we’re supposed to.”
“Well, for one I agree. We should get going.” At least, that way, everyone who wanted to pronounce themselves over the matter had already done so. Thus, the group finally began what would probably not be the quest of their lifetimes!
Speaking of which, though… it seemed like, at least for the time being, their companion wasn’t all that aware of what their mission exactly was. No biggie; she could be brought up to speed fairly fast. Magnus began doing a grandiloquent gesture with his hand. “You see, Arch-Wizard. An untold evil has escaped the depths of the Eye of Terror, and now is looking towards shifting the cosmic balance between the forces of the Master we serve and its rival. It’s a mission of utmost importance that we ensure that doesn’t happen, or the consequences on the cosmic scale could be nothing short of catastrophic. That was why somebody of your stature and talents was enlisted to help us with such an important task; our success is all but guaranteed now.”
Fancy, wasn’t it? Maybe the male should pursue a career as an actor instead of whatever he was doing at the moment. It was then when Sasha took the word, as strange as it was. “From what we have gathered, our target is some kind of cryptid that might or might not resemble a digital lifeform. We should be on alert in case we stumble into possible clues.”
Would they find any nearby? Or maybe what they were hunting for was good at hiding? At least for the time being, the only thing the group could do was to advance, and maybe, with some luck, they’d stumble into something at some point.

Hinoka was unsure what to make of this band of adventurers that she had teamed herself up with. They were a motley group. Her crimson eyes moved from one to the next as if she was x-raying them.
“I’m not just an Arch Wizard, you know. I am THE Arch Wizard! Therefore...” she span on the spot and pointed a finger, directly at Katherine. “I’m not afraid of anyone or anything. No matter what we are doing or whatever we might be looking for. With Hinoka Homura on your team, you’ve got a 100% chance of victory!”
Another member of the group seemed to be trying to peace keep. Not that it had any effect on the oversized ego that belonged to the little Arch Wizard. Her mouth still stretched into a proud and dangerous smirk.
With this said and with louder cries for the quest to begin from two of the tea or whatever they were looking for.
“Hmm,” Hinoka said, putting a hand to her chin and gently stroking it backwards and forwards. Pretending to be deep in thought. “Well, if this untold evil has broken free as you said. Then, of course. We have no choice but to do so. If not for us, but for the town and all the inhabitants that dwell within it."
“Also, as THE top-level Arch Wizard,” Hinoka began, puffing her chest out to make herself appear more important. “I think it’s best for everyone that I am the one who leads this operation.”
“Now with that agreed upon,” the girl continued, spinning back around. Not leaving any time for objections. As she spoke, she span the wand (which was really a branch ripped from an oak tree) around her fingers. A brilliant and wide smirk, running all the way across her face. “I think the best plan is that we split up and look for clues to… whatever we are looking for...”
The area that surrounded them appeared to be a mess of broken buildings. Old ruins that had never been completed or built. Long since forgotten. Left to rot and fall into ruins. An eerie darkness seemed to dwell between the dilapidated remains.
Who knew what kind of monsters might call this place home. Not that there was anything that she couldn’t deal with. She had already proven her power, many times by now. As such, her explosive abilities were nothing to sneeze at, so as she had said prior… victory was MORE THAN assured.
“So, shall we?”

Magnus couldn’t help but to smirk at Hinoka’s words. That was some strong ego right there! Hopefully, she’d be able to back up her confidence with her acts. “I see, I see. You clearly bear the title of Arch-Wizard only because it’s the highest possible accolade for your station, despite the fact that you’re peerless nonetheless. A fitting companion to our group, no doubt!”
Katherine seemed to be just a bit less hype about the whole deal, but that was more than more than understandable, and while she scoffed at the girl, the disguised Shakomon decided to refrain from adding to the ongoing conversation. Well, mostly; It was hard to ignore the finger pointed at her. “We’ll see if that one ain’t bravado or not later.” A shrug punctuated that sentence. Lest to say, she wasn’t very fazed about the whole deal.
Nonetheless —or, at plain sight at least—, it seemed like Mai’s intervention had worked in favor to the group; that was a good thing! After all, there wouldn’t be a lot of work to do if the enemy ended up being themselves, right? She, alongside everyone else except Katherine maybe, nodded at the female human displaying her ideals. Despite her eccentricities, at the very least it seemed like her heart was in the right place. That was always something good.
What about her obvious desire to lead, though? Everyone seemed pretty indifferent at such an exclamation, except for Katherine maybe. Given she had been antagonistic since the beginning, it only made sense, right? However, it seemed like, at the very least, Akemi had anticipated this development. “S-Sis.” She said, a bit timidly. “J-Just let her h-have her way.”
It was probably enough to convince her, all things considered. The brunette sighed, then stared at Hinoka. “You better do a decent job.” and then, at Magnus. “I can eat her if she ends up being a bad leader, right?”
The brunette just shrugged, and that probably marked the end of that discussion. “Very well. There’s no way I’m teaming up with that witch, so I’m gonna be part of the split group. Who’s with me?”
Dividing six into two was fairly easy, at least. “I w-wanna go with H-Hinoka.”
“Sure. Let’s go!”
”Alright.”
That made Akemi, Miyu, and Sasha the Arch-Wizard’s companions. “I guess I’ll hang out with Mai and Katherine, then. We should converge on this place after a bit to share our discoveries. How does that sound?” Since everyone seemed pretty excited to begin, beginning their expedition proved to be fairly easy. And, at least for the time being, Hinoka wouldn’t have to deal with the more antagonizing elements of Magnus’ party.
With that out of the way, though! The three digimon trailed behind the human, some measure of expectation on their faces. Well, except for Sasha; she was pretty at having no expression whatsoever. “So! What are we lookin’ for, exactly? Maggy said somethin’ across the lines of ‘alien lifeform’, but I’m unsure about how those are supposed to look. Any pointers?”
While Miyu asked those questions out, Akemi herself stumbled into what looked like… a gooey trail of some sort. Maybe worth looking? “H-Hey guys. Look at th-this.” She made a pause, visibly nervous at the discovery. “Sh-should we follow i-it?”
