”Look the fact they’re clean at all is good enough for me. I only pressed them because it helped with business when the bar was still… running.”
Skald finished that portion a touch lamely and sighed softly; he didn’t know what to do still. That wound was still very fresh and well… He didn’t know how to handle it. Abject failure of this magnitude to the point of where everything he had worked for was gone? Yeah it hurt. A lot.
Hearing that mikemon wanted to do it right now but instead chose to wait for later made sense to the renamon-x. Probably a few things that needed sorting… He found his eyebrows raise slowly as he explained that he wanted his daughter, the ‘mei’ to help him.
”Hmm. Do you trust her not to… well muck up? I know that some newer medical trainees have a habit of getting nervous and overthinking things...”
He wasn’t saying no to the idea of holly helping; more just concerned for the both of them. Skald would follow after mikemon; adjusting his sleeves a bit and rolling them to a point of where they sat nicely. Thankfully much of his arms were left alone in terms of scars. Maybe a few here or there from cooking but nothing major like on his back or chest!
”Well I could help you cook if you really want.”
Skald offered as it was the least he could do given the situation he was in. But hearing how silence wouldn’t wake up until she heard the bacon made him wonder what sort of fighter she was. Or what sort of person she was too. Hell how did she even end up as his father’s spouse?
He’d return the wave with a curt nod; glancing at amber as mikemon asked her about the plans. Hearing that she was going to train with holly and that her mother was going to sneak out to watch?
”...Never a dull moment out here it seems. I’d ask what sort of job or training but I think I’ll just settle for making a pot of coffee…”
Skald didn’t want to impose on this family too hard; nor did he want to get too attached. It felt weird being here and he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do with them or say to them half the time. He was just… hugely unused to all of it and it showed.

Yeah, things were probably going to be rough for Skald, at least for a while. Mikemon didn't pick at the wound, instead moving to answer the fox's second question, waving off his concern.
"All we're going to be doing is observation and small clean-up. Your minor case is perfect for 'learning' - and besides, Holly is pretty far along." The doctor didn't seem to be lying, as he led Skald into the living area. As Syre was about to walk by, the feline's ear gave a flick, the feline giving a nod. "Actually, that would be great! Cooking for eight's always a chore, so having an extra set of hands will help out. You want to do the pancakes or the eggs?"
The cooking definitely wasn't hard, but there was a lot of it! Whatever Skald chose, Syre would make her way to the kitchen to prep. Amber gave a shrug at Skald's 'question', before he stepped off. "Just fight training!"
Simple enough! As Skald would step into the kitchen, he'd see a well-stocked pantry, a full fridge, counters that looked to be 'Renamon' size, and her older half-sister, standing on a stool. There was already a pan going, the crackle of butter quickly filling the room. Despite Syre's hangover, she seemed to smoothly go from one pan to the next, keeping everything going at a steady pace...
... Which was needed, considering the size of the family, here!

”Well I suppose I don’t have anything to worry about then…”
The renamon mused over the fact for maybe a brief instant; he didn’t seem to mind if holly was actually as far along as mikemon said. Some practice like this would do her some good and it only had the benefit of getting his own body taken care of. Hearing that syre wouldn’t mind having a helping hand skald couldn’t help but shrug at her question.
”I’ll handle the pancakes; most of my eggs end up scrambled anyways…”
More because he always almost broke the yoke and at that point they might as well be scrambled. That didn’t mean that the renamon wouldn’t do the eggs if syre really wanted to do the pancakes. Hearing that amber was doing ‘fight training’ surprised him less than he anticipated really. Given this families knack for fighters. Silence was one wasn’t she? It’d make sense if her daughters were.
There was brief couple of moments as the renamon took in everything. Staring at syre for a few moments longer before getting into the groove around the blackgatomon. He was fairly good at making food even if there were some things he struggled with. Thankfully pancakes or eggs didn’t seem to be on this list!
”You guys must go through a lot of food for meals…”
The renamon mused as he went about mixing together the ingredients for the pancakes. He was quick to work and his hands remained mostly clean. Here or there getting some flour or baking powder on his hands. But that was natural. He’d bite the inside of his cheek and glance to syre.
”So who’s the oldest out of all the kids anyways? Is it you or this… holly?”

Indeed, it didn't take long for the two to get in the groove of things! Syre was already used to this sort of cooking at this point, able to tend to several pans, as well as another pot of coffee. The eggs would be started in a short bit - no need for them to cook too long - and so she'd be able to keep up with that conversation with Skald.
"Tell me about it - its definitely the biggest family expense we got. Silence 'n I have max-rank mission licenses, and Coal'n'Amber are going through their own training. Holly's a hungry one herself... hm?" The feline's ear gave a flick at the next question. Age?
"Yeah, I'm the oldest. Holly's the second, about a half-year younger than I am. Coal and Amber are twins from a few years later... with 'Silence'." The feline took a moment to look over her shoulder before saying that, not wanting to open that can of worms yet!
It wouldn't be terribly long before the two would finally be finishing up the food, and transferring stuff over to the serving dishes. Stifling a yawn, Syre stretched out her back, looking over to Skald. "You got a good handle of yourself here, though you might have done better with an apron than just wearing those clothes. Eh, guess the mess is nothing that won't buff out..."
"Smells good in here!" Mikemon gave a small chuckle as he took a look into the kitchen - and called back over his shoulder. "Silence, how many we got today?"

Thankfully the both of them seemed to know what they were doing; skald could appreciate that syre was quick to find a groove. Although his was a little less even than hers; he didn’t focus on that too much. Content to keep to his own pace even if it stuttered here or there. The renamon figured that the biggest expense would be food and if the family had a lot of clothing it would have been that.
”That makes sense to me. And mission Licenses huh? I’ve never picked one of those up. Maybe I should consider enrolling for one when things calm down… Amber said that she was doing ‘fight training’ but what about coal? Are they in the same… group?”
He was legitimately curious about the younger sisters but hearing that syre was the oldest; followed by holly and… The renamon-x’s eyebrows shot up at hearing that amber and coal weren’t full blooded relatives but that made sense since K was the reason why the two standing here were even related. He’d look down at the pancake mixture for a moment and flare his nostrils.
”I see. I think I’m older than the two of them, but I feel like I’m also younger than you and holly. Especially with that… information.”
So he was smack dab in the middle of this family but regardless of that the renamon-x didn’t seem to mind. He knew that if herald learned this she’d love it and would likely try to meet everyone halfway. He’d pause and look down to his clothing once they were done…
”A little bit of flour here or there… I think next time an apron would be needed yes. Tomorrow I’ll try to remember that. Where do you keep your aprons?”
Skald looked about and then perked up slightly when he heard Mikemon talk; turning to see not only him but silence slowly walking into focus. She was missing her typical garb and seemed to be wearing the upper portion of her knight uniform and just the pants legs. Minus the sleeves on the tunic. Skald couldn’t help but stare at that; was that outfit modular?
”Coal’s out on the job still, Holly’s up in luminas for her test; last minute cramming I think… Sixer is getting up right now and lets see…”
The shutmon started to count on her fingers…
”Skald, Amber, Syre, You, me… Sixer… So six?”
The shutmon looked fairly tired and skald couldn’t help but wonder if them making for eight would really change anything. Looking down at the meal that he and syre had prepared felt a bit odd but there was a small earnest smile on his face. It didn’t seem too prominent but he couldn’t help but chuckle after a moment.
”Certainly a lot of people… Maybe when herald figures out some things she can join us for breakfast one of these days.”

"Mm? You a fighter?"
That was an important question for anyone seeking a mission license. Even if they never intended to get into a scrap on the job, there was still a bare minimum to become licensed. As for Coal? "Not the same group, but Coal's actually more into combat than Amber is. Amber's doing it for more self-defense, whereas Coal might be going into a team that requires a good head on fighting for it..."
The feline gave a shrug. To her, it didn't really matter that Coal and Amber were 'half siblings', but she did nod as Skald guessed his own age, relative to the rest of the family. "Right, aprons are actually hung up by the laundry. 'Mom' used to do the rest of the cooking, so all of them are conveniently Renamon-sized... though they actually might still be a bit small on you."
As Mikemon walked on, Syre would continue on with the cooking, chuckling as Silence gave a yawn. The early morning was about the only time she would be so 'out of it', and the cat would briefly pipe up: "Coffee's ready, and I already got your thermos full. Was last night as rough on you as it was on me?" Well, of course not - Syre was a wreck until Skald helped - but the cat could at least still tease!
Chuckling alongside the rest of them, Mikemon nodded to Skald. "Herald's as welcome as you are, Skald. Now, let's see..." The feline would poke his head out of the room for a moment. "Amber, time to pick up and wash up. Remember, Holly will be here to pick you up around noon - only a half-day today. Maybe less, if Holly really has to study."
So much to stay on top of! The doctor would look towards Syre: "How about you?"
"Patrol route C, I'm out all afternoon. Coal will be back by the time I leave... and, um... I think Silence has a free day?"
"Assuming the wolf doesn't text her out of boredom for a fight..."

”When it counts.”
Skald wasn’t sure if he wanted to share exactly how much of one he was; he didn’t have much in the way of training nor did he have really a strong idea of what he liked to do in combat quite yet. He knew what he could do and tended to fit to a role that usually fell to herald holding the front line with him holding a more supportive or damaging one.
”Herald is more a fighter than I am.”
Probably would be all he needed to say; but hearing that coal was more into combat than amber was made him wonder just how further his ‘little sister’ was in comparison to him. But also hearing that coal was going into a team that required a good head for fighting? It made him raise a brow and he’d stare at her for a few moments.
”She was a bit shorter than me then huh? Bet she stood really tall anyways.”
That last part was said with barely a whisper; the renamon-x didn’t know how to feel about his mother and he really didn’t know what to do about his ‘father’ either. With silence being there the renamon-x felt himself shy away from the larger wolf; not so much out of fear but out of concern for her bone crushing embrace!
”Mmm… I could have gone for another keg or two really. But I feel like I didn’t eat enough.”
The wolf yawned again and went over to the thermos; picking it up and sipping out of it with a throaty rumble. Her eyes flicked to mikemon as he addressed skald; Herald was the sister she had been told about but she also knew that there would need to be… some adjustments for her to be able to come here safely.
”...Mostly the house to ourselves then huh…”
Skald found himself mumbling and Silence stretched a bit; easing into a seat where she seemed to be more comfortable in that needed. Her eyes drifted to Syre and she’d chuckle dryly.
”I have a free day yes. But we both know that Iko is likely to shoot me a message. I don’t mind the spars with him but… Today I think I’ll decline. See how coal is doing and also well… introduce her to her big brother.”
Silence would lean forward in her chair and skald found himself blinking in surprise. Leaning back ever so slightly as the wolf stared at him curiously. She’d eventually tilt her head and then smile warmly.
”That being said… paperwork, boring nonsense… Mm. Maybe read something for once. Watch a movie maybe. If my hearing is right you and skald have an appointment together later?”
”Y-you heard that?”
”Yeah; I hear a lot of things. Wait until you get to meet holly. She has her nose everywhere in the house.”
The shutmon chuckled again and took another sip of her drink; leaning back in her chair and enjoying the morning as it rolled on...

"... The tallest."
Syre whispered that right back, a long sigh following as the feline willed the depressing tone out of the room. With Silence soon in on the conversation, the BlackGatomon wore a smile, chuckling a bit at Skald's comment. "Oh, don't worry. I'm sure you'll be as busy as the rest of us soon enough!" With that, the BlackGatomon would work to start plating and serving breakfast, leaving the other three to talk largely among themselves.
"Probably a good idea to tell the wolf to shove it today... and yeah, Coal still has to say hi. Mm, maybe saying that Holly would be in on Skald's 'appointment' was a bit premature..." Mulling over the day's business in his head, the doctor would pull himself up to the table, Amber walking in shortly after (perhaps followed by Sixer!). And Skald, of course, would find that this was a big ol' happy family, with various conversations and jokes shared around the table, as well as calls for seconds, coffee, juice - a beautifully disorganized family meal, that Skald was drawn right into.
And just as quick as it picked up, some 'mons would excuse themselves, while others would stick around for a bit to handle the dishes - today, that would be Mikemon and Silence, both having a rare 'day off', the feline gently sneaking in a scratch between Silence's shoulder-blades.
Until the appointment, well, it would be up to Skald to figure out what he wanted to do!

Hearing that whisper from his ‘older sister’ felt odd; he had never met K and would never likely meet her. All he could ever get was snippets from their children or husband. He’d bite the inside of his cheek and didn’t pursue the topic further. Silence however being in the room meant even if he wanted to… well he wouldn’t anyways. With breakfast getting underway and topics shifting here or there the black-renamon-x simply decided to eat and remain somewhat quiet.
”I mean she could always look at the notes later; if skald doesn’t mind his information being shared.”
Silence gave a small shrug and then went to eating; laughing and being a beacon of cheer even though she had just more or less woken up. However with amber coming into the room and she being swiftly followed by the clacking of sixer’s feet. The large mei digimon stepping in and blinking from seeing skald.
There was that odd moment where they’d stare at one another and the meicrackmon variant couldn’t help but chuckle.
”Didn’t expect to see you here.”
”...Nor I you.”
The two had seen one another at skald’s bar and it was quickly explained that the meicrackmon had been a regular patron having no idea that the two were related at all. It was just her spending time away from sanctuary really. Which now she had this home to call her own for the most part.
Which came into the jokes, the bits of conversation and skald ultimately talking here or there. Though he didn’t have much to say and simply seemed to muse over a lot of what was going on.
Silence couldn’t help but grin at mikemon at the scratch, Sixer would excuse herself after a little bit. Thanking them for the meal before having to go take care of business and doing some research.
Now for the day?
Well skald didn’t have really any plans; he didn’t really have anything to focus on. He found himself in his ‘room’ staring up at the ceiling; unsure of what he should do and pretty unsure of where he should go. Mostly left alone with his thoughts eventually the renamon-x would wander about the house; restlessly looking at the various novels that were in one of the bookshelves…
”...Quite an assortment…”

No-one could really blame Skald for feeling lost. It might have been a better use for his time to go out and see Snowflake, but with an impromptu doctor's appointment set up this afternoon, what was he really supposed to do?
Thus, Skald would have at least a few hours to himself, as the rest of the family started and went about their day. The doctor wasn't really worried about it at this point, honestly thinking it was a good idea that the Renamon-X take some time to relax. Given that time alone, the doctor's sudden voice, as Skald started to go through those books, might have accidentally spooked the fox:
"I know, right? Shame we don't really read a lot of them."
The doctor gave a chuckle, nodding toward the fox. He stood at the doorway to the library, and motioned for Skald to follow. "I know its a little early, but Holly managed to squeeze a bit of time in before she goes out to practice with Amber. I can't imagine this taking too long - just a check-in to make sure that the scars aren't indicative of anything too serious."
Considering it would just be the three of them - and Amber - in the house, they were mostly able to speak freely. Leading Skald over towards Holly's room, the feline would ask: "How are they feeling now?"

Skald needed time to think; he couldn’t just go out into snowflake as he was. That and the renamon-x was pretty sure he’d have to borrow something more than a cloak to go out and about. The renamon-x sort of stared at the titles and was about to select one when he heard the doctor’s voice behind him. Spooking was definitely the term for it as he felt his body jump a little bit. He was so focused on what he was doing he barely noticed them!
”A few good titles, many of these are so old that I don’t even recognize them. What’s this one about?”
He’d pull out a rather worn book that had seen a lot of time. Mikemon would probably recognize it as one of the ones K had read often enough and one of the few ones that had survived from the inn to the library to even here. Though it’s story was a simple one.
”She’s here already?”
Skald looked a bit surprised and followed after mikemon once he put the book back away. Practice with amber, looking at his scars… this holly certainly had it busy. The renamon-x paused and looked back towards where his scars were.
”The largest one aches from time to time and the little ones are generally the sort where they no longer itch. It’s been long enough where they’re… mostly just there. A few of the more recent ones still are itchy though. I blame the poor craftsmanship of the knives to be honest.”
That was skald’s attempt at a joke; sighing a bit as he’d lean up against where the wall met the doorframe. He’d raise a brow ever so slightly before addressing the doctor.
”How long has she been studying to be a doctor for anyways? And where even? Can’t think of many places other than whitewater, terminus and luminas. Though I somehow doubt that anyone from your family is… well working for the lattermost.”

What was that one about?
Certainly, it was a familiar book, but all Mikemon could do was shake his head and shrug. "It was my wife's. And if I had to guess, that book is older than most of the Digimon in Snowflake. K was one of the few Digimon still alive that lived through the 'old war'..."
"... And that book was probably one of the few things that kept her sane through it."
Content-wise, though, the feline had no idea, and the two had more 'current' matters to get through. The doctor found himself chuckling at Skald's comment. "Well, sure. Portals are quite convenient! We should honestly make sure that you're set up with at least a basic one."
Letting that thought mull through his head, the feline listened to Skald's comments and complaints about his scars. Really, it only sounded like the 'main' scar could present any sort of issue, though the cat's nose furrowed at the recent wounds. "No, it sounds like the knives were doing what they were supposed to. Those serrated things... tch." He shook his head, glad to change the topic to Holly's education. "At this point, a little over two years - and its Luminas, actually. She both loves and loathes every minute of it." With that one comment, the cat would give a knock at Holly's door.
"Holly, you ready? Time to say hi to your younger brother!"

Hearing that the book was not only his wife’s… it was older than most of the digimon in snowflake. A mon that had lived through the old war. A war that even now many didn’t even remember existed. Not many even got to live through it. But to hear that his mother not only lived through that time but had something from before it made the renamon-x pause considerably. He wanted to read this more and more the longer he held it. But his time to do so would come later.
”A book that ancient would best be in a museum. There’s no price you could put on something like this.”
The renamon-x sighed a bit and shook his head; turning to face his ‘father’. Hearing that they should get him one made the renamon-x wonder why he hadn’t tried to get one before… then realizing that herald had said they could be tracked if you were smart enough. But now that they weren’t in that life anymore… could they?
”I’ll have to get me one. One for herald too no doubt.”
He’d rub his face at hearing that the knives did what they were supposed to do. To be fair they hurt. A lot. And it made it harder and harder to trust people he didn’t even know. The renamon-x exhaled a little bit and hearing that holly had not only been studying for about two years now… she had been doing it luminas of all places. Causing his eyebrows to shoot up.
”I can bet, they treat virus types very poorly even with the new regime. Better than their… prior government I’ve heard.”
Skald folded his arms and scowled a bit; he had tried to get up there at some points but… It was next to impossible given his.. Particular issues. But hearing that knock and the name well… the renamon-x couldn’t help but hesitate.
It wouldn’t even be a second before he was greeted with not the sight of a mecirackmon or her meiphemon but… a meicoomon who was currently drying her paws on her fur after knocking over a drink.
”Hey there you two! Younger big brother by the looks of it. Ahah. Of course I'm ready! Though I ended up knocking over some water on the way eheh...”
The shorter rookie snickered and stepped out of her room, looking to her da and then back to her brother who managed to return the smile she gave him.
”My name’s holly! You’re skald right?”
”That would be me.”
”Great! So where are we doing the examination Da?”
Skald couldn’t help but quirk a brow at hearing her call mikemon ‘da’ of all things. She was definitely older than he was but still called her father… da. He wasn’t sure how to feel about that really. Maybe some kind of tick that never changed?

"We definitely haven't been able to put a price on it."
Mikemon sighed, giving a small shake of his head. Certainly, it was a rare tome, perhaps invaluable to the research of the old world, but it was also a priceless family memento - perhaps the doctor couldn't bring himself to let it go? The cat gave a sigh as that book slid into place, leading Skald over towards Holly's room.
"Yeah, Luminas has definitely been worse, but they could still stand to be better. Try as we might, its not that easy to completely get rid of the 'old blood' - eh, let's not get political, here. We have other things to focus on." Like Skald's check-up, for example! With that knock, Mikemon would soon be face-to-face with Holly, giving the Meicoomon a smile.
"'Big' only be perspective right now, Holly!" Hearing that bit about the water, Mikemon looked over Holly's shoulder, rolled his eyes, and would move to set down a towel. "Alright, but I don't want you rushing things here. Ah, we're going to be doing it in my home office, I still have an examination table set up there. So come along, you two." The doctor would lead on... ... And it wouldn't take long at all before Skald would be set up on that chair, sitting on a thin film of paper, as Mikemon pulled forward two stepladders for himself and Holly to start the examination proper.
That said?
"I can't imagine this will take too long. A cursory glance at your wireframe shows that... its not the 'best', but its stable. I've certainly seen worse." With that much, the doctor gave a nod. "Go ahead and take off your shirt. Holly, go ahead with the initial scan,I'll check your work."

”I’m no appraiser… But I can tell this is utterly priceless.”
It was simple to the renamon-x. He might not have been someone you’d expec tot have much of an interest in books but with the way he handled that tome? There was a certain amount of care that went into putting it back that a librarian would be jealous of.
”I think maybe someday I’d like to try to visit there. I’ve… always been curious about the sort of social and merchant structure they have up there. As well as how their people live. Call it… I guess uh. Actual curiosity.”
Skald wasn’t exactly focused on the political side of it now that his ‘father’ pushed that topic aside. Face to face with the meicoomon skald’s expression was hard to read. But the brightness and charm radiating from this little cat would quickly wash away any worries the renamon-x had.
”I’m not going to rush. That’s why I picked this form. I don’t have my clones, I don’t have lily and jade is on standby. This is just me today da.”
It was important that she worked on her own; but hearing that she could clone herself? Skald’s expression shifted from worry to pure curiosity.
”You can clone yourself?”
”Yup! Four times for passive clones and three times for attack clones. Makes it really easy to do stuff ehehe. And all right da! Lets get this started…”
Once in the office skald would sit on the table, looking somewhat uncomfortable for a moment when requested to remove his shirt. Though it wouldn’t be lone holly could only pause and stare for a moment. She seemed surprised at the sheer number over anything.
”Geez… Seen worse sure da but this is Skald we’re talking about here… He’s family. I’ve never seen something like this before how...”
Holly shook her head and would go through the initial checks while skald sat there; twitching a bit while holly scanned the various scars. Some were deeper than others and some where basically just ‘skin’ level. Almost barely scars. But the biggest one? The one that almost split him in two? That was impossibly deep and holly couldn’t help but wince a little bit when going over it.
”It’s the sort of thing that makes for awful conversation while running a bar I’ll tell you that.”
Skald chuckled a little bit and holly would set aside most of the measurements of the varied scars, what they looked like to a certain depth and how to fix some of them without much issue. There were a few she wasn’t sure how to handle; some had curved stabs and the big one? Well she wasn’t sure how to tackle that.
”...The little ones are easier than the big one… I think we could start with the little ones and re-structure them to fit with the data around them. Might look odd while the fur regrows but… How do we handle the big one da?”
”I’d be surprised to hear anything but “you don’t.””
