WARNING: Don't try to read this in Light Mode. Your eyes will suffer.
"Yua! Yua! Hey, Yua! Wake up! Wake up, Yua! Yua!" Her high-pitched voice and constant shaking finally managed to rouse the woman from her slumber. Her head was pounding and everything was too damned bright. And her sister's voice felt like icepicks going into her ears. And Subaru didn't seem to notice that Yua had woken up, as she kept pushing her shoulder.
"I'm awake...!" Yua groaned, placing her hand on her sister's shoulder... and violently shoving her away. The little girl in blue tumbled back, rolling until she hit the wall of their little room... and she rolled right back to her sister's side like nothing even happened.
"Yua! Hurry and get up! It's time! It's time! Today's the day! Today's the day!" The little girl in blue seemed to be vibrating in place. For the still-tired and slow-moving Yua, it was already annoying her.
"The day for... what again?" As they stepped into the game store, Yua could barely take a step as Subaru began to run circles around her. "We're heeeeeeeere!" Subaru yelled out in excitement. The energetic child looked like... an energetic child. In a game store.
"All this for one lousy game... I really don't get it..." Yua muttered. Her head throbbed as the sunglasses remained on her face, even indoors. After last night, everything was too damned bright, and her head was throbbing. And her sister's high-pitched voice didn't help matters, either.
"One lousy game!?" Subaru responded, completely aghast. "I'll have you know that Fighting Farm Family is not just some 'lousy game'!" Her eyes seemed alight with passion as she rose to meet the taller Yua face-to-face. Like, literally begin to float in the air. So much so that Yua had to shove her back down to her feet again. "This 'lousy game' happens to be an innovative masterpiece that combines the mobility options of a platformer with the spacing and combo potential of traditional fighting games! They're far deeper than any other fighting game of any kind, with their movement options alone!"
Yua drowned out most of what her sister just told her. Mostly because she didn't understand it too well. "But... isn't it just a bunch of cartoon farm animals hitting each other?" She perhaps shouldn't have said it so loud, because... a good deal of the hustle and bustle died around them completely died down, and all of a sudden she felt a large amount of eyes focus on her. Well, more than a couple of young girls with bright hair and garbed in some kind of cosplay miko outfits normally attracted.
And as for Subaru? Either her face was red with anger from Yua's thoughtless comment, or the sheer embarrassment of standing next to her at the moment. "Ugh! This is why I can never bring you anywhere! Normie! Pleb! Scrub!" The blue-haired girl stuck her tongue out at the green-haired woman, then turned around and ran off further into the store. Presumably so she could purchase a video game or something.
"But... I'm the one that brought you here..." Yua muttered, confused. Welp, whatever. Her job here was done. Hopefully Subaru could meet some people who understood what she was talking about half the time.

"Yuyu? Hey... Hey, Yuyu, you gotta wake up. Your alarm's going off."
The human laying in bed with the messy blue and pink hair slowly opened his eyes. He recognized that voice... it was Kazuo, his Tentomon partner. Yuji slowly opened his eyes and focused his gaze on Kazuo, his vision slowly becoming more clear as the red ladybug Digimon hovered over his bed. "Whut... time is it?" Yuji asked, putting his hands over his face as he sat up. He grabbed the phone from his end table, looking at the clock. "Ten o'clock AM... that's right, we're going to that game store today... couldn't we just go at a later time today?"
"We could, or you just need to not be such a sleepyhead, kekekekek," Kazuo chuckled, putting his claws above his mandible.
"I'm almost seventeen and a high school student, I need as much sleep as I can get," Yuji playfully argued as he got up out of bed. "I know you're excited. Come on, let me get ready, then we can eat breakfast and head to the store. It didn't take too long for the pair to get to this mega game store, at least not long by Shibuya standards. The store was definitely big, it took up its own department-store like building and everything. Yuji had to say, he was impressed. Kazuo was definitely excited as well, slightly hopping up and down as he wore his disguise of a yellow hat ,green jacket and black shoes. It was obvious but hey, most non-Digimon involved humans were unaware so it all worked out. The two walked into the store, with Yuji spotting a poster for "Fighting Farm Family," a game he forgot was even coming out. And the date on the poster was today, maybe he should go find a copy-
"We're heeeeeeeere!"
Yuji's eyes immediately shifted to a very energetic blue-haired kid and her green-haired sister as they entered the store alongside him and Kazuo. The green haired one looked absolutely dead inside. Yuji sweatdropped, clearly it was a little girl dragging her older sister to a place she had no interest in. He honestly felt for the green haired girl, even if he was as interested in games as her little sister.
From there, Yuji and Kazuo inadvertently eavesdropped on the duo as they were deciding where to go first. The energetic sister was talking about how awesome the new Fighting Farm game was, and Yuji was impressed with her knowledge about the game's true complexity.
Wait a second... did the little one just float? Yuji thought, thinking his eyes were deceiving him. But before he could dwell on it more, the green-haired sister made a devastating mistake...
"But... isn't it just a bunch of cartoon farm animals hitting each other?"
Yuji's eyes widened at that statement. A couple other nearby customers and employees were now just kinda staring or briefly glancing at the girl now, before the blue-haired sister started calling the other names like "Normie" or "Scrub." before running off further into the store As much as Yuji loved gaming, he just couldn't get behind calling someone names for not being too experienced with games. Yuji decided to inform the older sister though, since she stayed close to the entrance. "Um, if I may... most games look very simple on the surface, but once you get to play them you'll realize there's more to them than meets the eye. For example, Kirby. It's a simple action platformer on a glance but then you'll dive deeper into it and find that there's some pretty disturbing lore within the game. Just a small example, though."

Within the exact same video store, there was another guised entity doing something quite nefarious in the form of...buying a lot of games with honestly earned gains. No, really, she had been making a lot of bank helping her sister out, so she already had a nice chunk of money saved up, and she had also been unfortunately corrupted by...
Video games.
Unfortunately the only game that really caught her eye was Super Robot Wars T. So, she was picking that up for her Switch. Apparently it had an option to play in English! Which was kind of...based as some people might put it...?
Yet, as she exited the aisle, she heard some sort of argument where such foul, Zhuqiaomonistic terms such as normie, pleb and scrub were thrown out.
"That's...um. That is kind of cringe, oh dear." Miko murmured as she watched some blue-haired girl race off into the store, before she would head on over to the two people with strange hair. Well, equivalently strange here.
"Excuse me, is everything okay? That was quite an outburst...I thought video game shops were meant to hold some air of peace..."

A mostly normal day, on a mostly normal weekend, for the mostly normal Von Otter household! Well, at least until the sun happened to arise, and with it, a certain pair of rambunctious girls that were maybe a little too excited about the routine they had managed to build up thus far. Slowly, the brunette woke up to the sound of gunshots followed by exclamations that seemed to convey a variety of emotions.
“Miyu, cover me! I can see the Tarmoneiter ahead!”
“Yeah, just give me a sec to pick this weap! It’s been a while since I’ve used a rawket lawnchair.”
The obvious conclusion to such an exchange would be the sound of two excited girls celebrating that their enemies had been completely decimated. Yet, there was something else there; the smell of napalm pancakes wafted through the air, entering Magnus’ nostrils and finally prompting him to wake up. Mai’s cooking certainly smelled like… victory.
Once fully awake, noticing that three out of the six beds were empty was a fairly easy task. Enough of a signal for him to get dressed, wake Akemi and Sasha up, and for everyone to begin their day. However, since this is a group thread and the writer can write an essay of how the sextet’s breakfast would or wouldn’t go, it was probably preferable to skip to the next scene. Just like everyone else, the group eventually found themselves at a game store.
“I’m so excited to get Mansion of Walking Shamblers X! It’s the best two-player shooter since the release of Rhino Crisis!”
“Oh, yeah! Let’s go give it a look!” Somewhat obviously, at least two members of the ensemble seemed fairly excited about being here. “Maybe we can pick other goodies along the way, too!”
“Can I go with you?” Surprisingly, Sasha was the one who uttered those words. “I want to learn more about those so-called games you two engage into.”
“Sure! Let’s go!”
“Have fun.”
She didn’t need to say a lot more, and that resulted in Akemi, Mai, and Magnus being left to their own devices. At least, that meant they could relax for a bit, right? Luckily for the trio, they hadn’t witnessed the outburst that had occurred moments ago, and instead found a small congregation of four to five people that were seemingly chatting about miscellaneous things. Only then, Akemi found it opportune to speak.
“Th-this is a board game st-store as well, r-right?” That was an interesting question. Considering how big the place was, it was entirely possible, even though…
“I have no idea. Maybe? We can ask in case you want to check them out.”
“I-I’d like that, y-yeah.” Before the male could do anything about it, however, Mai had already approached the gathering, gently waving at the three ‘people’ present with a warm smile on her face.
And, after making sure that no exchange was going on, she spoke. “Good morning ladies. Gentlemen. I hope I’m not interrupting anything important, but you all seem well acquainted with this place and I was wondering if there was a board game section here. Anyone knows if that's the case? I'd be very interested in checking it.”
Akemi and Magnus arrived shortly after, with the former partially hiding behind the latter’s tall frame as the two waved at the rest of the group as a greeting. It wasn’t hard to tell, Kemi’s gestures were a lot more stiff, and she was clearly uncomfortable in the situation.

"Mmmhmm..." Yua stared off into space as some rando human started talking to her about some gamer shit. Then young woman... well... not quite a human, approached to see if everything was alright. Yua felt an odd sort of kinship with this one, for whatever reason. Maybe in another life, and things were a bit different, then she would have... nah. No point in thinking about that kind of stuff. And then a group of girls and some rando normie guy game walking in. And Yua's senses started going off like crazy.
Between Yua and Subaru, this other girl, the group of girls that just entered, and the group of four or five small fry hiding in the ceiling tiles... what was with this game store? And why did so many Digimon like all this videogame shit when they can fly around, shoot fire, and blast stuff for real? Yua was never going to understand all of this.
So when Mai asked about board games, Yua gave her a long stare before pointing towards the signs hanging from the ceilings. Seriously... did anyone pay attention to signs these days? They were placed there for convenience, after all! "They're up on the second floor."
Still, being surrounded by so many people all at once was getting tired for the still-sleepy and hungover Renamon. She took a step backwards and turned to leave. "If anyone sees my sister, just tell her I'll be waiting outside." Would any of these strangers actually do so? Probably not, but it was whatever. Subaru would have to leave this game store sometime, right? ...Right?
It didn't take long for Subaru to find the Fighting Farm Family: Frenzy Edition display. And there were even a live demo present! There was a Cow player fighting against a Pig player. The Pig on screen was putting up okay shield pressure and a solid neutral game, but failed to punish in the corner, and just let the Cow get back onto the stage instead of going offstage to secure the stock. Meanwhile, the Cow on screen was just throwing out heavy hit after heavy hit and somehow getting rewarded for it. So both players were pretty much trash.
Subaru wondered if she could get in there, maybe sneak in a money match in if one of these scrubs were willing to nut up and gamble a little. Like the last time she visited the arcade... those high school boys looked like they were gonna cry when they handed their money over to Subaru. It was such a good feeling! And it was how Subaru was able to afford the new release!
But then something caught Subaru's eye. A sign stating that the Game's Developer was here, signing copies of the new game! Sure, the developer was objectively trying to ruin the very franchise that he created by catering to the filthy casuals with each release and Subaru hated the man and everything he stood for because of it, but he was still the game's lead developer! She should totally get in line and see if she can get her copy signed! And she should totally give him a bunch of ideas for the next game in the series! Subaru was sure that the developer never got tired of hearing his fans tell him how to do his job!

It didn't take long for others to notice this girl's sudden outburst as well. The first that came up was this brown-haired woman, asking if everything was alright. Yuji looked over towards this girl and spoke. "It's over and dealt with, I'm pretty sure. Nothing else to see here." While Yuji was glad to share tidbits of game and anime facts with others, the squabbles between other families was not something that he was willing to just jump himself into.
Then another group of three came up to ask where the board games were sold. As the green-haired woman gave them their answer, Kazuo couldn't help but feel his senses going haywire. It started when they went up to the sisters, lessened when the little sister ran off, then increased as the other four joined in. That's when it clicked for Kazuo, surprisingly enough. "No way..."
"Hm? What's up, Kazuo?"
"Oh, uh, it's nothing much... let's go get that Fighting Farm game now!" Kazuo suggested, grabbing onto Yuji's hand and pulling him towards the direction that the little blue-haired girl ran off to.
"H-Hey, I know how to walk you know," Yuji stated as he failed to overcome the Digimon's superior strength. He at least managed to turn his head over to the green-haired woman as Kazuo pulled him away. "If I see your sister I'll let her know you're waiting outside!" He called before disappearing from view for the group.
Once they were far enough away, Kazuo would stop in his tracks and tell Yuji the truth. "Every single person in that group was a Digimon, Yuyu."
Yuji blinked. "Wait, seriously? How could you tell?"
"Digimon can sense other nearby Digimon, in a way. It makes it really easy to tell if a Digimon is in a holosuit or not when in the human world. Maybe I shoulda gotten a DRM thingy to hide my own scent..."
"DRM...? So wait, those ladies were all Digimon? And that guy too?"
"No, I'm pretty sure the guy was a human."
"Well great, looks like there's tons of Digimon roaming this place, wouldn't have it any other way," Yuji said with a slight chuckle. In reality he didn't mind all these disguised Digimon being around, if anything he thought it was pretty cool! Maybe they'd encounter more of them later, or even run back into the ones they had just met. "Come on, let's go look at that Fighting Farm game."
Just like it didn't take Subaru long, it didn't take Yuji and Kazuo long to find the display for this game. There was even a live demo on display as well, making the game look honestly pretty cool despite it being about... well, fighting farm animals. Kiddy games could still look pretty cool, dammit! They managed to arrive while Subaru was still there, looking at a sign stating that the game developer was here signing copies, which definitely peaked Yuji's attention. And of course since Kazuo hadn't had his dumb moment today...
"Hey, you're that Digimon we saw earlier," Kazuo told the blue-haired child. "Your sister wants you to know that she's waiting outside."
