Today was a rather chill day in the Moonstone Monastery, safe to say. All was quiet and easygoing; no big events going on, no upcoming missions, there weren't any chores to worry about for the next couple of days... It was even shifting into spring, the cherry blossom trees starting to grow back their leaves and little flower buds! And it was safe to say that Makoto, this late morning, was in a very lax and content mood.
Kuro, too, seemed to share in this mood - its movements slow and languid, like flowing water, as Makoto went over their morning routine; taking care of their personal hygiene, before moving for the kitchen to make some tea, and to fix up a few biscuits with all of the fixings to make some breakfast sandwiches.
(If only Kuro were physical, Makoto mused; then they could share some tea and breakfast with it!)
As the bacon sizzled in the pan though, mid-sandwich making, Makoto would simply pull up a chair next to the stove to sit down and relax as Kuro settled beneath it; letting out a gentle sigh as they took in the smells of both the bacon, and the brewing tea....
This morning was quite the lazy one - something that was much needed, in the fox's opinion, aftet the hubbub of the day before. Perhaps they could see if Toki, or Mae, or Shade wanted anything to eat...? It was always nice to have company, honestly, and the three of them were all pleasant company in their own rights...
... But what Makoto wouldn't realize, was that a certain different type of company might be fast approaching...!

Another day, another adventure for a certain fur-covered gremlin. While she wasn't the brightest bulb in the socket (far from it in fact) Tomina had the terrible but beneficial habit of overhearing others conversation which often led to hearing things she shouldn't have. One of those things led her to the Moonstone Monastery where she hoped she might find one of her moms! Not the pink one who's genetics were currently keeping the small pup warm regardless of the chilly weather, but the other one. The debatably cooler one who could see the future n' stuff.
So the Kolongmon waddled along minding her own business, following the vague general direction that was granted to her by her keen though not always pinpoint accurate sense of smell. Mae could be anywhere nearby and Tomi wouldn't know it until it became obvious. She wasn't very good at searching on her own without her sister, but it didn't make the pup any less determined to continue the search. Especially not when she was so close to finding one of her parents.
Tomi stopped dead in her tracks when the scent of food hit her right on her lil' black button of a nose, making her eyes widen and her tail and ears perk up eagerly. Though it hadn't been too long since the small in-training 'mon had eaten thanks to her hunting skills, but her appetite was like that of a large Champion. She followed the smell to it's source, nose to the ground and tail in the air wagging rapidly paying no attention to what was in front of her until...
...BONK.
The small dog bumped into a door not just once, but twice. Apparently not receiving the brain signal that there was a solid object there the first time.

As a certain Kolongmon was sniffing around, Makoto would continue making breakfast - humming a brief tune, before their attention would turn to the shadow still settled at the feet of their chair. "What do you think we should do, once we've eaten and the like, Kuro darling?" The Renamon-X questioned, smiling warmly. "All of today is free, from the looks of things."
<... Perhaps visit with the others in the monastery?> Kuro would suggest, 'gazing' up at Makoto from its spot; its presence in the fox's mind a gentle and familiar one. <It's been a little while...>
"It has; lots of things have been going on as of late..." Makoto sighed in response, eyeing the bacon in the pan. Just had to get a little bit crispier, and then they'd take it out and crack some eggs into-
BONK! BONK!
A pair of thumps at the door to the kitchen would make Makoto jump a bit - nearly jolting the frying pan in the process - and Kuro jolting from its spot. What was that...? Was Omen and Mae playing in the hallway, or something...? "Huhm..." Makoto would hum to themself, visibly puzzled as they made their way for the door. <Watch the pan, Kuro?>
<Got it,> The shadow would murmur - sliding up along the sides of the counter, to settle atop it - adjacent to the stove. Once the Renamon-X reached the door though, they'd pause for a second - wondering what they'd find on the other side - before opening it; peering down to see...
... A child? An In-Training kolongmon, in fact, who seemed absolutely focused on sniffing at the ground... As the surprise passed, Makoto couldn't help but feel immediately endeared, parental instincts rising up near-immediately as they crouched down before the small dog. "Hello there, little darling." Makoto would speak, softly and affectionately. "What brings you over here, hmm? Is your mom or dad here visiting the monastery, or are you here on your own?"

Tomina's eager nose pulled her gaze up towards the Renamon-X who had opened the door. The smell of bacon lingered on them, pretty easily earning the fox that hungry little dog's attention. Miraculously especially when given the circumstances, the question asked didn't pass through one ear and come out the other. The pup paused, blinking up at Makoto slowly processing their words through the haze of their desire for bacon. There wasn't a single thought behind those little black eyes, just bacon.
"...Eh?" The pup tilted her head to one side. "On my own! I was looking for someone then I smelled.. food.." Tomi trailed off, sniffing at the air to keep on the trail of delicious smelling food. She would only be temporarily distracted as she shook herself out of it, letting out a little bark- barking at herself? Maybe. Either way it worked, kinda. "Looking for Mae! Yeah! If this is the monastery she's gotta be here!"

What a cute little pup, not a single thought in her head. Makoto couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the one-track mind that the Kolongmon seemed to have; smiling and patting Tomi's head briefly. "Well, if you're hungry, then you're more than free to come in and take a break, darling; I imagine you've been doing a good bit of traveling, if you've come all this way on your own." They'd suggest - gesturing to one of the chairs, and nudging a box closer to it so that Tomina would be able to climb atop it. "Go take a seat, and I'll make some more bacon and eggs, so that we can both have some breakfast sandwiches together. How does that sound?"
At the mention of Mae though, Makoto would blink a little - something seeming to click in the fox's mind. Oh, that's right... Mae did have two kids, didn't she? A Kolongmon... And as Makoto helped make sure that Tomi was situated in the chair, they'd even be able to note that her scent was similar to that of Omen's or Mae's, at that...
"..." Makoto would be quiet for a second - mulling it over - before smiling warmly in the small dog's direction. "Mae's probably in Luminas right now; something about 'a holy artifact getting dropped down some stairs'. " They'd explain, with a brief chuckle as they retrieved the d-terminal from Kuro; reaching into the shadow, where it rested on the countertop. "I'll message her and let her know you're here, though; and you're free to stick around until she gets back. That being said, though... What's your name, dear?"
Better to make sure this was indeed the Tomi that those two have told them about before, than to make assumptions, after all.

The Kolongmon heard the offer for food and immediately became excited, letting out a small bark and speeding towards the box to hop up onto it and then the chair. She turned back to face Makoto and nodded eagerly, spinning in place just once and then sitting down as politely as a wild child like her could manage. The tail on the excited sphere of pup wagged hard enough that her rear moved with it somewhat.
"She's in Luminas? Wow.. She's so cool." Or at least.. cool to the lil' dog who couldn't quit smiling while thinking about it. The "coolest" thing she had likely seen up until that point was the monastery itself. "My name is Tomina! Tomi is fine too." Tomina maybe should've introduced herself by name sooner but no thoughts, head empty. Just bacon and now egg! She was never one for actual meal prep beyond just cooking meat and scarfing it down so she was quite eager to try new things. If it were her doing the cooking she would likely just eat the ingredients without thinking so she was incredibly grateful for Makoto being willing to share.
"I can wait as long as it takes! I just really wanna see her!" Tomina was practically vibrating with excitement by that point. Both at the food coming her way and at the idea she would soon get to see one of her moms. She was fit to explode from sheer happiness overload.

Makoto would be laughing with happiness, at seeing the little Kolongmon's excitement - their own tail wagging, as they gently pat her on the head when she sat down. "That's a good darling," They'd praise gently; a warm smile on their face - as they'd then move back to the stovetop. The bacon looked nice and crispy, and so they'd transfer it to a plate which had a few layers of paper towels sat atop it - to absorb the excess grease.
"I'll make some sandwiches for you first, so that you don't have to wait as long. How many would you like? You can see the english muffins that I'll be using on the counter there, for reference." Makoto questioned - smiling to Tomina, and blissfully oblivious to how powerful this little doggo's appetite was. "And do you have any preferences in cheese?" All the while as they spoke, they would crack a couple of eggs into the pan; using the bacon grease like one might oil or butter, so that the eggs would have some bacony flavor to them as well.
With Tomina mentioning how cool Mae was though, as well as introducing herself, Makoto would nod - both in agreement, and acknowledgement, with a warm smile. "That must mean that you're Mae's daughter, and Omen's sister, then; it's a pleasure to meet you, Tomina dear." They'd speak, continuing "My name is Makoto; and this here..." Gesturing to Kuro, who would now move back down the counter to Makoto's side - seeming to be observing Tomina from where it was - the Renamon-X would continue "... Is Kuro - it is my shadow made living, but also my familiar and companion, to best describe it."
Smiling with a hue of sympathy towards Kuro, Makoto would add "It can 'speak' - although it's usually a bit shy towards strangers, so don't worry if Kuro's a bit quiet."
But with that being said, Makoto would smile to Tomina, continuing "As Mae's teammate though, I can agree - she's quite the impressive individual. Toki is another teammate who lives here, who is also quite impressive; though he's a bit of a modest darling, so he might tell you otherwise." They'd chuckle with this, a fond hue to their expression. "Shade, too, is an interesting dear; he might be a little intimidating, if you do meet him - but he is as gentle as can be, otherwise. He just can't help the aura he has."
It was clear Makoto thought highly of all of their teammates; the Renamon-X adored them all, after all! But blinking a bit, they'd realized "Ah... I probably rambled a bit there, pardon me darling." Smiling to Tomina, they'd shift the subject into the little Kolongmon's court, and mention "It's unusual for an In-Training such as yourself to be on your own, though; you must be the resourceful dear, to be able to take care of yourself and to travel out here. How've the trails been treating you, Tomina?"

Tomina wasn't quite sure how to answer a question like that. She knew quite well how out of hand her appetite could be thanks to the many reminders from her old caretakers back in the village. She hummed thoughtfully to herself, but it would be quite the slow thought process as she was distracted glancing around the room briefly. "..Yes?" Was her final response, not a number, but a yes. How many would she like? Yes. This lil' dog was never good with numbers anyway. As for cheese.. "..Yes. Lots!" A simple response but somehow incredibly vague. This probably wasn't the answer Makoto was looking for.
The Kolongmon perked up again and nodded rapidly. Today was feeling like Tomina's lucky day. At the rate she wondered if she would be running into any more family members here at the monastery. "It's really nice to meet you Makoto.. and Kuro! If you know Ome' does that mean she's here too?" This got the pup even more excited, somehow. It was starting to seem like there was no upper limit to how energetic she could get. She'd really love to see her sister and her mother lots. The only thing that could really make it better was if her other mother were here, but Hasenya was most definitely in Ys.
Shade? Intimidating? "I'm not scared of anything! Er- Well.. That's kind of a lie." Tomina mumbled. This little dog could stare a Seraphimon in the face and walk backwards into the Sea of Blood but she didn't care for being separated from her sister. Logically she knew both she and Omen would be fine when left to their own devices, but Tomina wasn't a very logical 'mon.
"...You were rambling?" Tomina tilted her head. She really hadn't noticed, she was just listening to Makoto talk and pitching in with her little comments. It was a great change from all the lonesome traveling she had to do to get to the monastery on her own. The ball was in her court now though, and everyone knows how dogs feel about balls. "Yeah! I'm really strong and have no trouble protecting myself!" The Kolongmon barked excitedly. "It's not fun traveling at all without Ome' there, but I still really wanna see my mom- both my moms! And I don't really have anything else I can do.."

Tomi's vague but enthusiastic response would initially be regarded with a couple of somewhat puzzled blinks from Makoto; the Renamon-X tilting their head a little, as they tried to mull over what the Kolongmon might've meant by 'Yes' and 'Lots'. Indeed, it wasn't quite the answer that Makoto was looking for, but... They decided that they'd simply wing it, and hope that they'd make enough for little Tomi here. "Lots it is, then, darling." They responded with a warm smile and a nod - adding "Hopefully I can make enough; you seem to be quite the hungry pup!"
As far as the subject of Omen went though, Makoto would shake their head. "Not right now; but Omen does come here, from time to time, to visit and spend time with me or Mae." They'd explain, adding "Omen regards me as a bit of an adoptive aunt, and so I regard her as my dear little niece in turn." With that being said though, a certain wry hue would cross their face as they glanced to Tomi - adding "That could make you my niece, too, by extension; though that's only if you're willing, darling." It'd be a bit too forward, after all, to immediately start declaring this little Kolongmon their niece without even giving Tomi any say!
Smiling gently at Tomina's declaration though, Makoto chuckled; visibly endeared. "It's okay to be scared of something, dear. We all have things that we're scared of - even if it's only slightly." They'd reassure the little pup, adding "Some people will say that being brave despite that fear is good - and it's true, to a certain degree - but you shouldn't push yourself, if something ever feels too much for you. Fear is a natural response - it's your body trying to warn you that it thinks something is dangerous, after all." One's own mental health is important, as well - and it can be stressful to put yourself in a scary situation, no matter how brave you may be.
With Tomi taking up the reigns of this conversation though, Makoto would chuckle warmly - responding "You certainly look like you'd be a fierce little pup, when you put your heart to it." It was a goodnatured tease, the fox just finding Tomina to be an absolute joy to have as company. "And I agree; traveling on your own can be lonely sometimes. But feel free to take it easy here in the Monastery, and your mom will be home soon, I promise. As far as not having much else to do goes, well... I'm sure the world will open up to you a lot more once you reach Rookie. That's usually when most digimon start adventuring out on their own, after all."
As the duo spoke to one another though, Makoto continued to make breakfast - already having finished cooking up a few eggs by now. They'd begin to assemble the breakfast sandwiches - an english muffin, eggs, bacon, extra cheese just like Tomina asked for, and a bit of mayo - and would set the trio of sandwiches on a plate before the little Kolongmon. "Now be careful, they'll be hot, cause the eggs are fresh off the frying pan." Makoto would caution the pup - adding "And let me know if you want more; we've got plenty here, okay darling?"

Tomi responded with a couple of blinks to that bit of info. She wasn't one for putting much thought into things- at least not complex things. Here it seemed like simple math. If Omen considered Makoto an auntie and Tomi and Omen were sisters then obviously that must mean Tomi should as well, no? If Omen trusted Makoto that much then she would as well. The pup hummed thoughtfully and then nodded to herself. "Ok, auntie Makoto it is!" She clearly had no issue being forward about it- but at least they could be mutually forward, yeah? Tomi seemed happy about the decision. For this little dog, it was never bad to have more family.
The conversation topic about Tomina reaching rookie was always a weird one. Personally she didn't think she needed it? The idea of growing up was an exciting one for sure, but she felt she was pretty strong even now. It was really hard for her to put words to her feelings on the whole thing. No way was she against it because she almost inevitably would, it was just a part of her life but for now she was just.. vibing, was the best word for it. Very chill, very content. Even if sometimes she could whine about her lil' legs making it hard to run and jump. Speaking of- "I bet it would be really easy to see more of the world if my legs weren't so tiny.." The Kolongmon huffed, raising one tiny leg for emphasis.
Tomina watched intently as Makoto put a nice meal together for the lil' dog, her tongue slowly poking out from one corner of her mouth the more intense her focus became on the sandwiches. Not a single thought behind those eyes, just bacon. When the food was finally put in front of her she had to force herself to stay seated, but she couldn't stop her tail from wagging hard enough that her rear was sort of pulled along by the force. She knew way too well the dangers of digging in to freshly cooked things but darn if her stomach didn't tell her to do it anyway. When she couldn't take the wait anymore she snatched a sandwich up off her plate and devoured it in what seemed like only a couple of bites.
The pup was used to having very simple meals, so something like those sandwiches that actually had a couple of more steps of actual prep to them were new and wonderful to her. After that first sandwich Tomi sat back and looked at Makoto. "These are heckin' great! They're like.. wow!" Tomina didn't even have the words for it, so she went back in for her second sandwich.

Oh? Tomi was already willing to refer to them as her aunt, even though they only just met? Being referred to as 'auntie' seemed to bring a warm smile to Makoto's face, their tails swishing briefly as they nodded to the little pup. "I'm happy to hear that you already trust me that much, darling." They'd mention to Tomi - already as pleased as could be, to have another niece that they could fuss over. Tomi was a very different sort of child from Omen, too - seeming to be a bit more... Scatterbrained, at the very least; so hopefully Makoto would be able to keep the young dear out of trouble, for the sake of Mae not having an aneurysm!
But in any case, Tomina would huff a bit at her short legs, and how they likely got in the way of seeing the world. "It'd certainly help," Makoto would agree with a gentle nod - adding with a wry smile "You might even get arms you could use to climb around, and better hang onto the cool things you find, so that you can bring them home and show them to Mae and Omen."
"That being said though, it's okay if it takes you awhile before you digivolve to Rookie." Makoto reassured, Tomi, smiling more gently. "All things take time, after all; and it's better that you let it come to you when it's ready, as opposed to rushing yourself." Rushing yourself to digivolve, before you're truly ready, tended to result in complications.
As Makoto saw the look in Tomina's eyes though - as they delivered the sandwiches - the fox couldn't help but laugh warmly, seeing the way that she was practically wiggling in excitement from the sheer need for bacon. Laughing warmly as they set the plate down on the table, they would pat Tomi on the head - gently cooing "Someone's quite the excited little pup, hmmm~? Don't worry - that patience will make it all worth it, darling."
Once the little Kolongmon couldn't wait any longer though, she wasted no time in practically devouring one of the sandwiches - something that made Makoto blink a little in surprise, before chuckling. "You really are a hungry lil pup, aren't you?" They'd tease affectionately; adding to Tomi "I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed those - like I said before, let me know if you want more, and I'll be more than happy to make more."
With that, they'd turn back towards the stove - already getting some more bacon frying in the pan, and offering to little Tomi "I could also teach you how to make these yourself, if you'd like; it might be a bit tough for you to do it like how I'm doing it without proper hands, but it's otherwise pretty easy - it just takes a bit of time and patience." Really, it was easy to make delicious sandwiches in general; and ones that were varied, at that.

"If Omen trusts you there's no reason I shouldn't!" Tomi nodded. There was nobody Tomi trusted more than her own sister, so if Omen trusted Makoto than it was easy for her to do the same. ..Though it was pretty easy for her in general, she could be pretty naïve when meeting new people. It hadn't gotten her into trouble yet but it remained to be seen how long that luck streak would last.
"I can really have more?" The pup asked sounding surprised. She wondered if it might be too much to ask. Tomina was used to slapping some meat down on a fire and roasting it the old fashioned way but as little effort as that sounded like it required it was often a bit of a chore for the Kolongmon with her lack of thumbs. So she could only imagine what kind of effort it would take to make those sandwiches. It was certainly easier with more capable hands and experience but Tomi couldn't know by how much. "Mm.. Could I have a couple more? Pretty please?" She requested a bit hesitantly but was as polite as she could be about it. The last thing she wanted to do was eat Makoto out of house and home but surely one or two more wouldn't hurt.
While she ate her third sandwich she pondered a bit on what Makoto said before about arms. It would sure be great if she could climb. She could definitely jump with the best of them but that could only get her so far unless she decided to try and do as goats do. She's not really built enough for it though, she's like- literally a circle. "I'd really like to grow into a Rookie but I don't really wanna go looking situations to force it either.. But ugh, waiting." The Kolongmon huffed as she finished off her food, sitting back and shaking her head. "What about Omen? Is she still just a Rookie?"

Makoto could see pretty plainly that Tomi was a... bit of a naive child. It was endearing, for sure - Tomina was friendly and outgoing, making for very pleasant company. Although that being said, the Renamon-X did have some worry over how it might affect her in the future; not everyone in the world was kind or trustworthy, after all... Perhaps it'd be worth sitting the darling down and talking to her, later, about how to be careful around strangers... They certainly didn't want to see someone exploit that kind heart of her's, after all.
But all of that aside, it seemed that Tomina was more than happy to have a couple more sandwhiches; to which Makoto chuckled warmly, nodding. "Of course, darling - and thank you for asking so nicely, Tomina dear." They'd respond, wanting to make sure that such politeness is always encouraged. Too many digimon nowadays didn't seem to value having some courtesy for those around them, after all! "It'll be just a little bit, until the next batch is ready..."
And while they waited for the sandwiches to be made, the two of them would talk about becoming a Rookie, and Omen as well. As far as Tomina wanting to become a Rookie went, Makoto would chuckle warmly, smiling over to the little pup. "Waiting can certainly be hard - especially when you're younger, time tends to feel like it goes a lot shorter when you're waiting." They'd speak, sympathetic over Tomi's plight with waiting. "If it helps at all though, you becoming a Rookie is likely going to be a question of when, not if. It'll come sooner or later, darling - and when you do, I'm sure the wait will be plenty worth it."
As for the question of Omen, though, Makoto hummed for a second, to find their words. "Omen still tends to go around in Rookie form - although she has, relatively recently, been able to reach Champion." They'd state, continuing "I believe the darling's still a bit unused to taking on her Champion form at the present, though." Which, Makoto didn't blame her - given that Omen first digivolved during a stressful situation in a mission. It might be tricky for her, at the moment, to digivolve outside of combat...

Talking about it had Tomi's imagination going there for a minute. It was hard not to think what it would be like to have frickin'.. more joints to work with, maybe some actual arms and legs. Opposable thumbs? Unlikely, that one might be asking too much but a pup could still dream. She mainly looked forward to being able to take on things much larger and scarier than herself, even if she was already pretty decent at bowling over other Digimon that were supposed to be bigger and stronger than her. She wiggled from excitement and just generally having way too much energy than she knew what to do with while she waited for her other sandwiches. Tomi's a good patient girl but there's no containing the sheer amount of puppy in that spherical little body. It was nice being fed real food and actually having someone to talk to again.
Hearing that her sister had managed to reach champion though, Tomina couldn't help but feel a bit.. jealous? Tomina stopped her wiggling and furrowed her brow, glaring in front of her at nothing specifically. Was she just grumpy? She wasn't sure what exactly. The Kolongmon was displeased with herself for being what felt like so far behind. Though she supposed technically Omen was born first- regardless of her mixed and uncertain feelings on it she was still excited. "Gosh, Ome' must be so strong now.. I bet she looks cool too." Tomi sighed to sort of relax herself, expel the last of those bad feels to make room for the good ones. "How did it happen? Did she just kinda grow into it? Is she okay?" The pup bombarded Makoto with a ton of questions about Omen. Since they were on the topic she was a bit activated and wanted to know more. Omen probably didn't need a literal bowling ball to fight for them but of course Tomina would still do it anyway.

Seeing the displeased expression on Tomi's face, Makoto's own expression would become somewhat sympathetic - stepping away from the stovetop for just long enough that they could briefly pat the little Kolongmon on the head. It wasn't hard to guess that Omen being so far ahead of Tomi probably brough up some negative feelings for the little pup - and Makoto could certainly understand the feeling of being behind. "Growth isn't a race, okay darling? Remember that it's okay, if it takes time for you to digivolve." They'd simply reassure Tomi, adding as a reminder "You'll get there sooner or later, too - it's only a question of when, not if."
However, before long, would come a barrage of questions - something that made Makoto chuckle gently; even if there was a sympathetic hue over their face, at the thought of how Omen digivolved. "Ah... That's a bit of a long story - but it is actually how me and Omen first met, some time ago." They'd begin with a thoughtful hum, pondering over how to best explain everything. "We were up in the Northern Prominence, with a handful of other digimon and humans, on a mission; though to make a long story short, things had gotten a bit stressful for the poor dear. She had gotten a bit of a scare earlier in the mission - and when an enemy digimon attacked, it triggered her digivolution."
Sighing gently in sympathy, as they remembered the stress that the poor little Wispmon had been put through, Makoto would continue "Things like this are partially why you don't want to rush digivolving. Putting yourself in danger to trigger a digivolution is stressful - especially when you're pushing yourself to the point of fight or flight - and as a result, it's quite exhausting on one's mind, heart, and body. And if you crack under all of that pressure, you might find yourself digivolving into something much less pleasant than you would've if you had just taken your time."
"But that being said..." Smiling gently, and reassuringly, to Tomi - Makoto would conclude "Omen's okay now, though; she's been doing quite wonderfully for the past while as far as mood goes, and she has been learning how to access her Champion form outside of combat." And as they spoke, they would remove the bacon from the pan to crack in some eggs, for more sandwiches.
