World Tour B: The Magic Of NYC

The city was known for being cold even in summer on occasion, but today it was a warm twenty six degrees celsius. Large cumulus clouds decorated the sky but did not obstruct the sun. All in all. If anyone thought that was too hot anyway, they could rest assured by a pretty consistent breeze that they at least wouldn’t feel hot. It was almost ten o’clock in the morning just now, and if nobody brought a watch then those present could at least judge that it was somewhere in the midmorning ballpark by the position of the sun. The group here noticed all this because their digiport dropped them in a wide outdoor area. For several meters in every direction there was nothing but grass and, further out, an unobstructed view of a sidewalk and some skyscrapers. Garbage was an inescapable blight on the view; this city wasn’t nearly as clean as Tokyo. This was obviously a very busy part of town, but was there anywhere in the city proper that wasn’t bustling? A quick scan of the area would tell everybody that they were in a park and also that, no, it was not that park. This was just some little park, and it was probably more for the kids than the adults going by the sizable playground within a convenient walking distance and the fact that most benches were near its boundary facing inward. Taxpayer money scaled no expense for this one; from slides to monkey bars to seesaws and all kinds of other equipment that didn’t have common names, small children might have pictured this place when they were first taught about heaven. With that came popularity. Most of those aforementioned benches were filled by supervising parents. Accordingly, just about every piece of playground in this park was already occupied by a child. There was even a short line forming for the tallest slide. They ran around the boundary like a colony of ants, only without so much purpose. Besides all the noise the screaming children were making, the ambience from outside the park was a whole lot of engines and car horns. This is where those who took the New York portal wound up - fortunately, far enough away from the mass mania episode that was the playground to avoid detection walking through that portal, but uncomfortably close as well. If one pair of eyes had scanned their surroundings at the wrong time, it could have created questions. As well, it was entirely possible that some rando on the sidewalk could have gotten a glance at that. Lucky for the group, it looked like the foot traffic was either too focused on their current business, had their noses buried too deep in their phones, or just didn’t care enough to do anything about it. How the heck were you supposed to find anything in this place, let alone a digital portal?

Post by Yuji Moriyama and Kazuo on May 3, 2021 0:42:48 GMT
It was around eleven o'clock PM in Tokyo. Inside a certain apartment unit, sixteen year old Yuji Moriyama and his Tentomon partner Kazuo were getting ready for bed. Kazuo had less to prepare than Yuji did, but that really only amounted to which one of them wore clothes and which one didn't. Today was a pretty uneventful day for the pair and they still had some energy, but since nothing was coming up they decided now was a good a time as any to hit the sack.
Once Yuji sat down in his bed though, his Digivice would suddenly make a beeping sound. Picking it up and opening up the messages screen, he would start to read the message, which was sent from someone who apparently didn't want to be known as it was just a jumble of letters and symbols. "Huh, this is weird... we got an anonymous message, Kaz."
"Well, go on and read it! What does it say?"
Yuji's eyes widened slightly as he kept reading. "...apparently something big. According to this person, Digiports have been opening up not just in Tokyo, but... well, all over the world. New York, Iceland, Mexico...they want us to help out with figuring out what's going on. Think we should do it?"
"And see other parts of the human world? Of course we should, Yuyu! What places are there to go?"
"Well, the email included attachments for the four main locations: Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, New York City, a national park in Iceland, and even the Folder Desert."
"Well, New York sounds interesting!"
"It's not just about which places are interesting or not... but yeah, I agree. We better get dressed up again, because we're heading to the Big Apple... we also better find a way to make sure my dad doesn't know we snuck out." Once Yuji and Kazuo practically did their bedtime routine in reverse, they would use the one-time passcode that was provided with the email and arrive in New York City, specifically an area nearby a pretty crowded park for kids. Yuji was wearing his usual attire while Kazuo was dressed up in a disguise of a yellow hat, green jacket and black shoes. It was surprisingly warm today, since Yuji had always heard that this city was pretty cold.
Looking around the immediate area, this place wasn't all that much different from what Yuji was used to... aside from all the trash, of course. Dear god, this city was a mess, there isn't anywhere near this much trash back in Shibuya. The sight made Yuji feel somewhat sick. "Guess New Yorkers aren't as careful about their trash as we are, huh?"
"You know, I have a question about New York," Kazuo said as Yuji continued observing the immediate landscape, which was in a pretty busy part of town where even the kids' playground was crowded. At least no one seemed to notice Yuji and Kazuo appear out of thin air. "What ever happened to old York? Did it get destroyed, so they built New York to replace it?"
"This might be harder than I thought..." Yuji muttered to himself, ignoring Kazuo's question. How were they supposed to find a Digiport in a place like THIS?

Meanwhile around the same hour of night Stacy was on her laptop browsing the Internet when her D-Tector began going off. Figuring this could be something important she shut off her computer before picking up her digivice. As she suspected she was right as she looked at the anonymous email regarding various Digiports appearing around the world.
Looking at the locations she figured that New York would be best since she spoke the native language. After getting a thermos and filling it with coffee then filling her bag with everything she needed for trips to the Digital World she activated the one time passcode soon finding herself in a park in New York which kids were playing. With all the people around it was surprising that they didn't notice her pop outta thin air but then just shrugged it off as a digital anomaly of some weird kind. Such things could be pondered at a later time.
After resting her D-Tector in its Digivice Cradle on her right arm she brought out her thermos of coffee from her backpack and looked around. Trash all over the ground. Yes she was expecting it but after a year in Japan it was quite the sight to take in. When will they learn? Shaking her head she looked around spotting a human and a digimon in possibly the worst disguise she had ever seen. Curious she moved closer to the Tentomon before she recognized this particular beetle by voice. "Kazuo, what brings you out to New York of all places?" Stacy asked revealing herself to the digimon and unknown tamer dressed in her AEGIS uniform and wearing her leather jacket over it. Then again she wore her jacket everywhere but seemed barely aware of the odd heat. Yes New York could be hot but not this early in the year. Could the Digiport have something to do with it?

Post by Satoshi Himura on May 12, 2021 3:35:04 GMT
AEGIS Agent Satoshi Himura awoke one day to a message on his D-Terminal from Silence's Commandramon. The contents were nothing new. After all, Satoshi was one of the analysts attempting to decrypt the information of the mysterious sender, as well as reverse-engineer the new portal tech. If he could crack it, this could have huge implications on not only AEGIS and Digital World related logistics, but if it could be recreated safely and sustainably it would be a revolution in travel and infrastructure that could even have an impact on the ever-approaching climate crisis. The invitation to investigate was too enticing to pass up on, so Satoshi got his partner Gabumon ready and headed out. There were four attachments that each lead to different parts of the Earth. Since Satoshi had recently spent some time in America, he decided the best course of action would be to go to New York. The first thing the pair noticed upon exiting the portal was the hustle and bustle of the big city. Not that it was all that big of a difference from Tokyo, but it was very obvious from the weather to the architecture that they were no longer at home. "Well, Gabumon?" Satoshi asked his holosuited partner. "Shall we begin?""Hell, yeah!" the blue-haired buff man exclaimed. "It's been forever since we've been out in the field! I was going crazy!"Looking around, a few figures nearby piqued Satoshi's interest. "Well, it looks like we're not alone on our first mission back in a while!" Near him was a girl he recognized as a fellow AEGIS agent, Stacy Miller. He hadn't had much time to interact with anyone, being as buried in his work as he was, so this was technically their first meeting. Grabbing his badge, he casually strolled up to her and showed it off, signifying that they were colleagues. "Agent Miller! Glad to see you outside of the office for once," he greeted pleasantly. There seemed to be another younger boy nearby, and what appeared to be a rather hunch-backed child in a jacket. More than a passing glance would reveal that this was obviously a Digimon in disguise, but from what Satoshi knew of the people of New York, 90% of them had seen stranger things already that day. He decided to be friendly. "Ah, and I see you're not alone either! It's nice to meet you, I'm Agent Himura."

Though the crew knew they were primarily here to find a portal, obvious clues were lacking. The mysterious contact did say they would try and put the people close, but how close was 'close?' The answer, at least by a quick scan around was unclear. There sure weren't any more portals in plain sight, and the ones that the team had walked through all closed as soon as their use was up. The park was so normal to the naked eye that it could have been almost eerie, given what the group knew.
"Wow! Kylie, c'mere. Kylie!" That was the sound of a girl about six years old screaming with glee in English, not Japanese. The voice almost failed to stand out, seeing as there were a couple dozen other voices of similar cadence making similar screams as they frolicked and played. The reason this one might have gotten attention was that it was much closer than most of the others. If anyone looked at that little girl, they would have noticed she was herself looking right back at the group. So, too, was the one presumed 'Kylie,' who would come by her friend's side and gawk at them herself.
"Oh, my gosh! Another one? Tiana!" This cycle would go on for about a minute until kids didn't have to be called to start crowding around. By the high point, about a dozen boys and girls aged between five and ten years were giving the group very little personal space. Together, the little mob began to ply the group with questions.
"Why are you so funny lookin'?"
"Is he magic, too?" That particular question - most of them really, - was for Kazuo, as a first grade boy seemed determine to peer under his hat with no regard for his personal space.
"Are you part of the show?"
"Can my dad take a picture of you?"
"Are you the Great Elemental's assistant?" The five-year-old boy who asked that one had no compunction about reaching at Kazuo's hat, trying to pull it back for a better look.

Well at least it seemed like Yuji and Kazuo wouldn't be alone for this mission. Imagine, going to a new place all by yourself to solve a problem seemingly bigger than you are all alone, potentially trying to climb a mountain in a T-Shirt in the freezing cold too, wouldn't that just be something? Anyways, their first ally would be a woman seemingly in her twenties with a pixie-cut hairstyle and a uniform that wouldn't look out of place on a secret agent. Not only that, but she seemed to know Kazuo...
"Stacy!" Kazuo cheered out, waddling over to the woman and offering a claw as like a handshake. "It's been so long! And something cool happened last time we met as well, I got a partner of my own, just like Kaya."
"Hi there... Stacy, was it?" Yuji asked... in almost fluent English, given that he didn't know that Stacy actually lives in Japan as well. "My name's Yuji Moriyama, and I'm a first year student at Shibuya Academy High School. So how do you and Kazuo know each other?"
Then after that, another pair would show up and join the group... or at least, that's what Yuji assumed at first. The man wearing glasses pulled out a badge as he walked up, signifying that he and Stacy were colleagues. So that must've meant that the blue-haired man was a Digimon in a holosuit. The man in the glasses then turned to Yuji, introducing himself as Agent Himura. "Ah, hello. I'm Yuji Moriyama," Yuji would greet as he switched back to Japanese. "And as you can tell, this is my Digimon partner here, Kazuo."
"Hi there! What do you think of my super secret disguise?"
"...wait, does this mean I'm the only one here who isn't some kinda government agent, then?"
Before Yuji's question could be answered, the sound of a little girl caught Yuji's and Kazuo's attention. They both turned to the source of the sound, which seemed to be two little girls running up to the group... and behind them was a mob of about a dozen more kids following those two kids. The reaction of utter surprise on Yuji and Kazuo's faces wouldn't have looked out of place in an anime before they all swarmed around the group, particularly Kazuo. Guess his disguise wasn't so great after all.
One particular first grader kept trying to take off the poor bug's hat, causing Kazuo to constantly need to shoo his hands away before he just used his claws to cover his hat. "I don't like this, please stop..." the poor bug muttered as he started to tremble.
"Okay kids, please stop, my friend doesn't like what you're-" Yuji began to say in English before what one of the kids was talking about clicked in his mind. The Great Elemental... the email said there was a signature that matched a Wizardmon. Could it be...? "Actually, we're not the Great Elemental's assistants. My, uh, little brother here heard about him too, and we came here to see him. Could you possibly tell us where he is, please?"

Stacy accepted and shook Kazuo's claw and said "I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you ended up with a partner seeing as I've seen stranger things in the Digital World in the year I've been a spirit wielder."
She then released Kazuo's claw when a teen boy that addressed himself as Yuji asked how she knew Kazuo. "Nice to meet you, Yuji. You speak pretty good English. I'm not quite fluent in Japanese yet despite being in Japan for a year." She then chuckled before she continued "As for how I know Kazuo, we met when I was helping Kaya and Hawkeye track down a thief while at the mall. That thief turned out to be Kazuo and through awkward circumstances led my spirit into possessing me causing me to digivolve to rookie for the first time."
Soon footsteps were heard followed by a voice causing Stacy to turn and face an AEGIS agent she was unfamiliar with who introduced himself as Agent Himura. Smiling and offering her hand for him and his partner to shake she said "There's no need to be so formal. You can just call me Stacy."
Next thing she knew a scream was heard causing her to wince in pain before a swarm of excited children were upon them mostly focusing on Kazuo. When someone or something called The Great Elemental was mentioned her brain cycled back to mentions of a Wizardmon on the email. Could this Wizardmon be who the kids were talking about? Fortunately Yuji was trying to do some damage control since Kazuo was feeling visibly uncomfortable. While Yuji was trying to shoo kids hands away, Stacy patiently said "Now. Now. Kids, I think you should back up a bit. Some people get uncomfortable when people are in there personal bubble." Being autistic she understood well the need for personal boundaries but would the kids listen?

Like the Red Sea, the children parted. They didn't seem to respond at first to Kazuo's anxious mumbling, the little things displaying complete disregard for the beetle's body language as well. However, when Stacy stepped in with the authority of an adult and gentle, kid-friendly language, the kids heeded her. Kazuo was quickly granted space to breathe. However, the children's eyes did not wander far. It was really only the one who answered Yuji, a pale child with very thick glasses, who looked away from the walking wonder that was the digimon in order to point a ways across the park. "Over there!" he would excitedly mark for Yuji.
Anyone who followed the boy's finger would have probably noticed the Great Elemental's audience before they noticed the entity itself. As crowded as the group might have felt just now (perhaps a little less so now), it was nothing compared to the audience of several dozen that someone had accumulated. Some figure across the park had the attention of a good number of both children of many ages, including some much older than these; and many of their parents, whose stature made it difficult to get details of the figure enclosed in a half-circle from this distance. In fact, some of the other children, upon learning Kazuo was not, in fact, this person's "assistant" quickly departed to return to whatever had their interest to begin with.
"Thank you. Thank you, everybody. It is truly my honor and pleasure." The silence of the crowd let them faintly hear the figure, though. Their voice certainly sounded mature and masculine with a thin rasp, its tone humble and dignified. "I am so happy there are so many people here who still believe in magic." As his speech went on, more of the kids attracted by Kazuo ran straight in that direction, apparently not wanting to miss whatever was happening. "Now before we continue, I am a little thirsty." If anyone cared to approach by this point, they'd have seen that an adult male humanoid figure was the center of all this attention.
The person in the middle of all this commotion was obviously much happier to have the attention than Kazuo. The obscenely high "collar" that was a part of the man's cape covered part of his face, but by the eyes alone it was clear he was smiling. That wasn't the only absurd piece of clothing he wore, either: he was essentially in a witch's costume, but obviously of the male persuasion for his own comfort. He wasn't a particularly tall man; the top of his very tall, pointy hat was about as high as the parents watching were tall. In one hand, he held a clear, label-less plastic water bottle. It was empty, which he made clear by pointing the open top part at the ground and shaking it, then tossing it around a little. It certainly moved through the air like an empty water bottle should have, as opposed to a full one.
"Oh, that is a shame. I am out of water. I beg pardon, but would any of you kind people have some?" The audience all collectively shook their heads. "Well... alright. I suppose I must make do." At first it seemed that 'making do' might mean going without water. This was not the case. If there was sleight of hand involved, this person was much too professional to let anyone, even the visiting digidestined, catch on. He wasn't even hiding it. He held the bottle out with two gloved fingers for everyone to see from many angles, his other hand up in the air and in plain sight. And yet, from no apparent source, water began to bubble up from the bottom of the bottle until it was full, even overflowing liberally onto the ground and getting the grass wet.
"Ah, that is better." The audience clapped while the Great Elemental tipped the bottle behind his cape "collar" to take a drink from it. When he was satisfied, there was indeed some fluid missing from the bottle after the man refreshed himself. "Now, where were we?" Most of the audience was completely flabbergasted as to how the empty bottle filled itself up, but perhaps the group of visitors had a better idea. They may or may not have known about magic, but there was a better chance they knew a Wizardmon when they saw one.

"I didn't think I was ever gonna get a partner, so it was a great surprise for me as well," Kazuo said. If his mouth was visible, he would definitely be seen smiling right about now. After they were done shaking hands/claws, Stacy would turn over to Yuji and explained that she and Kazuo had met when they were tracking down a thief at the mall, who turned out to be none other than Kazuo.
Yuji chuckled in response. "Oh yeah, I've heard that story plenty of times," he said, giving a sly look towards the beetle Digimon as he crossed his arms.
"Meep...!"
Now that introductions were out of the way, they still had an army of children to deal with. Kazuo let out a sigh of relief when the children finally gave him some room to breathe thanks to Stacy's intervening. "Thank you, Stacy..." When Yuji asked about this "Great Elemental," one of the kids pointed towards an audience gathering together, and the gathered children rushed back over to join the audience upon learning that Kazuo was indeed not with the Great Elemental. "Come on, let's go get a closer look," Yuji suggested.
Yuji and Kazuo would subtly join the audience along with the others who would follow him. They would try to politely nudge their way to the front of the audience where they would see what looked like a man with long hair, a wizard's cap, and a cape with a collar that covered their mouth. He seemed to be doing some kind of trick with a bottle that was indeed clearly empty. Yuji couldn't notice any sleight of hand tricks that this guy was doing, at least. He said something about having to "make do" without water, or at least that's what Yuji thought...
...until the guy just visibly started creating water. Yeah, the water bottle was filling up with water from no apparent source. Yuji was stunned, there was no human magician that could do such a thing without it being very noticeable. He subtly lifted his Digivice and scanned the being, and sure enough he got results. "Bingo," Yuji would say to his comrades if they were next to him. "This is our guy: Wizardmon."

The children not only listened to her gentle words but even parted like the Red Sea giving Kazuo the room he needed. Kids seemed to like her well enough whether it was the aura she gave off, the fact that she spoke to them like they were little adults, or maybe a combination of both. Either way that was one problem solved now they had a job to do.
When Kazuo said 'Thank you, Stacy.' She turned to the badly disguised bug digimon and said "It's no problem, Kazuo, I'm not fond of being crowded myself but for me it can result in a panic attack at worst."
As Yuji and Kazuo made their way closer to the Great Elemental, Stacy's curiosity drove her to follow making her way politely through the crowd biting her lip at how unsettling it felt to her until she got a good view of the sight of the Great Elemental creating water on sight. Catching sight of Yuji bringing out his digivice to scan the being that was likely a digimon, the Great Elemental was identified as a species called Wizardmon. Digging out her D-Tector, she stared at it as she thought 'So I can learn the species of a digimon with my D-Tector. If only I knew that a year ago. Oh well.' Her thought finished she pocketed her D-Tector again. Sure Blitzwolfmon could pass for a human in a costume but she preferred not to resort to combat unless she had no choice and the Wizardmon didn't seem to be violent. She kept her hands in her pocket to be ready, just in case though.
