He didn’t recall there being a place of dwelling here.
He didn’t recall there being a town here in the middle of the desert. In fact had you asked him he wouldn’t of even known to point someone this way. The fact of the matter was after that blinding pillar of light not too long ago he had wondered what had happened here. Was that what had been pulled out of the night? An entire town? City even? Of nothing but what he could see… of beings made out of metal.
An entire city of machines. Something that he hadn’t really heard of before; sure he knew of terminus and the various other cities. How they had robotic dwellers but here? He could tell from the get go that this place was different. With how they approached newcomers; a mix of confusion and uncertainty. But he was pleasant enough that the machines didn’t seem to consider him a threat.
Allowing him inside the city walls as long as he promised not to make too much trouble. Of which crimson declared he was simply interested in the location and it’s sudden appearance. To which most of the machines didn’t seem to know too much or didn’t seem too keen on sharing for whatever reason. Maybe they didn’t feel it needed to tell every person that came through here what had transpired?
More was the pity.
The elemental type mon took great care not to interrupt the machines in their daily tasks, only pausing to ask ones that simply were standing around or otherwise weren’t terribly busy about the location. It seemed warm, welcoming in some parts and others it seemed a little bit rushed. At least to him. Was this a well thought out endeavour? He didn’t know.
The large digimon paused and inevitably took to taking a seat right outside of what seemed to be some kind of repair bay. He couldn’t help but wonder what sort of problems they’d have here; machines didn’t do too terribly well with the heat and sand right? So why were they set up out here? Maybe the answer lay in their inherent skittishness? Or maybe he was just reading too much into that.
”Maybe they’ll have some traveling supplies… or perhaps a map? I bet there’s a lot of places that have updated in the years hmm hmm…”
The digimon shook his head slightly; here was this fascinating town and he was focused on learning more about the world outside the desert. Not that he couldn’t leave but perhaps he wouldn’t be comfortable elsewhere...

It had been a long day - and based on the state of the machines here, it looked like it was going to be even longer.
With the desert sun high above, Mikemon found himself at an outside clinic, the heat of the day baring right down on his back as he continued work on his patient, a Guardromon. With an organic Digimon, Mikemon would have been able to complete most of the diagnostic work simply by analyzing the Digimon's core, but for a mechanical one, the process was much more involved. Right now, the feline was working with a voltmeter, gloved hands pressing two leads into the wiring underneath a service panel.
"... Alright, it looks like everything's back the way it should be. That should have flushed out the 'static' you were feeling from the tower, at least." The doctor pulled back, stretching out his arms, as the Guardromon shut the service panel and stood up straight.
"Ah, thanks, doc! But you've been at this a while right now, right?" The Guardromon tilted his head. "You... and the other cat, right? You sure you two aren't overheating?"
"Oh, yes we are. Not a lot I can really do about it, though - I got to get to the next in line." The doctor gave a chuckle, as the Guardromon gave a pause, staring for a second before he walked off. Mikemon, meanwhile, snagged a bottle of water from an ice-filled cooler, took a step out from the makeshift 'examination room', and took a good drink of water, before proceeding to dump the rest of the bottle over his head.
This profession wasn't all 'sunshine and rainbows'! Even Dr. Mikemon had his limits, leaning against a wall, forehead pressed up against his forearm, just for a moment.
"... Right, should check in on Holly..."

Crimson continued to wander about; checking out the sights and trying to get a general feel of this new town. Some of the machines here were quite friendly but past a wave and a general greeting he wasn’t getting much out of them. The large stone digimon eventually finding himself looking at the sole organic individual that he’s seen thus far. Some small looking cat with… a very strange signal. At least to him; it wasn’t hard to tell that something was up.
His curiosity piqued the elemental kept his distance as the good doctor worked; not wanting to interrupt whatever was going on with that guardromon. Flicking his ears forward and easily keeping track of the conversation. Another cat? So there were a pair of cats here… performing some kind of maintenance on these robots?
The golem turned his attention to the tower; staring at it for a few moments. He couldn’t see how it was taped off from where he was at but he got a sense of foreboding from here. Frowning a little bit the digimon eventually turned back to the repairmon who seemed to be done with the guardromon. Giving a small but pleasant smile as he walked past the guardromon the robot didn’t really pay him much heed. Probably had other things on his mind.
Seeing the cat up against the wall in a way that made him feel like the little cat was probably stressed the golem had a momentary second thought about talking to them but… His curiosity mixed with his concern pushed that to one side. So crimson did what he would normally!
”I’ll say it’s a bit of a surprise to see an organic mon in the middle of a bunch of robotic ones. Are you their tender or something?”
That was his first curiosity; the second would be the other cat… and then ultimately the tower would inevitably be the one that he would ask about if he got the chance. Figuring that the cat would at the very least understand what was going on. Or have some kind of clue. If he didn’t? Well crimson would probably poke around a bit more!
Though forgetting himself for a moment the elemental gave a little tap to the side of his head; he had almost forgone introducing himself!
"But where are my manners? My name is Crimson. What is yours?

"Hm?"
With his head against the wall, Mikemon wasn't expecting someone to address him, so as Crimson spoke up, the feline's ear gave a visible flick. It took the doctor a moment, but he would take a step back, and give a tired blink as he looked towards the fire elemental. "... Honestly, its more of a surprise to see a fire elemental so far away from the volcanic lands. Tender, um... no, I'm more of the 'acting doctor' right now." Based on the fire-type's confusion, it seemed like he wasn't a threat - and really didn't have an idea of what was going on!
"Ah, its quite alright, I'm not that formal myself. My name's just 'Doctor Mikemon'. Can you give me a second?" Assuming that was given (or even if it wasn't), the doctor would pull out his D-Terminal, and give a call to his assistant:
"Hi, Holly - yup, this is for the status report. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Okay, so long as its below 95W, all you have to do is run the normal current filtration. Uhuh. No, the Rapidmon, you should only be looking at the mechanical half. When's the last time you cooled off? Okay. Okay, take a break after that patient. Ice water. Okay. Love you too."
Putting the device away, the doctor would stretch out his back, nodding to Crimson - then towards the tower. "Things got pretty weird around here - we're honestly just now starting to see things get back to normal, though it seems a few machines want to see if they can try and actually make a city out of this scrap pile, regardless. Actually, before I get too far, I guess I should ask."
"What brings you all the way out here?"

Maybe he should have waited a few moments before addressing the doctor; but at this point what twas done was done. The elemental managed to give them a small smile; not bothered in the least bit at the tiredness of the other. Just meant they were a hard worker right? Upon hearing that the ‘fire elemental’ chuckled and he’d give a small shrug.
”I suppose it is. Given the tendency of the type to roam around the desert. Acting doctor? Did something happen to their primary caretaker then? I don’t mean to pry but this place is… fascinating.”
Crimson looked about and then upon hearing the other asking for a moment the fire elemental would give a small bow before stepping away. If the doctor needed time to himself it wouldn’t do well for crimson to push. But he couldn’t help but hear what he was talking about. A holly, some kind of other Doctor perhaps? Followed by that last part. But judging by the tone it seemed more parental than actual love. His smile didn’t waiver at all and once he was done the elemental would adjust himself a bit.
”I can only imagine, I don’t recall this place being here last time I passed through. Hmm?”
What brought him all the way out here? Crimson blinked a few times and then let out a soft laugh. Rubbing the back of his neck and giving a somewhat earnest smile.
”Well I wander you see. Most of the desert really. It’s more my home than anywhere else. So here’s this town that just up and came out of nowhere. Most settlements like this would take a few months at the very least, even a year. But no. I might have been… wandering past this location a good few months back. So I’m here because my curiosity got the better of me. Hard not to be when you can see the tower from a good ways off.”
There was a brief pause and he’d chuckle again.
”It’s nice seeing some buildings here again, there hasn’t been a settlement of this size since before the sands came. Does this place have a name? I don’t think scrap pile is too becoming.”
Crimson couldn’t help but glance back at the tower in the distance; he had a few ideas for what they could call this place. But that would require the machines to want to stay and if only a few did… well that’d lead to other problems wouldn’t it? Maybe he seemed a touch chatty but it was obvious that he… really didn’t see people all too often!

"No, its more like they didn't have a doctor to begin with. I think they had notes of trying to hire one, but I think those plans have gone out the window."
Yes, this place was 'fascinating', but it certainly wasn't yet a functional city. Electricity was set up by wayward generators, there weren't any Trailmon tracks nearby to suggest that there was even a source of civilization, and any supplies here were physically hauled in. The fascinating part was that this place existed at all!
As for Crimson's explanation? The doctor mulled it over, and looked over Crimson once, before giving a nod. It seemed believable enough! "Honestly, we're about as confused as you are. That tower over there? Well, its busted up now, but it popped up - as is - a week or so ago. Apparently it was sending wide-range signals, giving machine Digimon the collective idea to build a settlement, 'for machines and by machines'. Sent the rest of the world into an uproar trying to figure out how to handle it..."
"... Only for the tower to cease functioning. So now my daughter and I are working to get that 'external code' and any abnormalities out of the machines' systems." So that was the explanation - the city was a sham! Or, it was a sham.
"Even among the machines I've 'fixed', though, there are a few who still want this place to work. Doesn't really have a name, or at least not a name that the 'mons here agree on. Everything from 'Kibou' to 'A Giant Disaster' has been used here... and I don't think 'hope' is a good name for it either." The cat shook his head.
"I am a fan of the name 'Pyrite', though."

”And getting one out this far for so little would be difficult wouldn’t it…”
Crimson mused and gave a small shake of the head; maybe if they figured out a way of getting one out here ontop of getting some kind of transportation. The desert was fairly unforgiving and that tower was easy enough to see… maybe a blimpmon landing pad or something?
”That is a strange sort of way for a settlement to start that’s for sure. Tower pops up and machines just want to build a place just for them… Huh. Was it that bad that it happened?”
Crimson felt that there was more to this story than he was being told; the doctor probably didn’t really know but he wasn’t about to pry further. Maybe he could go a looking when he had the chance. Hearing that the tower had a function before made the elemental tilt their head.
”I hope the machines at least appreciate what you’re doing for them. Yggisdril knows that the ones I used to know weren’t exactly the most friendly. Then again they were programmed that way so who’s to say.”
Hearing that they still wanted this place to work made crimson pause and hearing that they didn’t really have a name in mind made him chuckle. Yeah that would do it wouldn’t it? The elemental folded his arms and mused a bit. The few names that he listed sounded fine enough if not a bit corny. But the last one had the elemental crack an eye open.
”It’s a good name. Hope is an ironic one and ‘Giant disaster’ wouldn’t really go well on a map.
Crimson hummed a little bit and seemed a touch thoughtful. There was a lot to address and he couldn’t help but wonder…
”What sort of patients do you normally handle if you don’t mind me asking? You seem quite knowledgeable even if you aren’t their tender.”

"Very."
Mikemon gave a sigh. Doctors who could also handle engineering were very far and few, which was part of the reason Mikemon wanted to give Holly some experience with it. And yes, the way this town popped up was indeed strange, earning a nod from the doctor. "Cities are 'mum' about it right now, but we're suspecting that it was mass-manipulation caused by a high-power machine Digimon, or something to that effect."
As for the next part, the doctor gave a nod. "For the most part, they appreciate it. And its a lot more than Yggdrasil's programming - machine Digimon have a core like the rest of us. Wants, dreams, fears... thinking them 'one-note' would be like me saying that you're only bound by your enchantment." The doctor sighed, scratching the back of his glove against his nose.
"Mm... at this point, you could consider me a 'diagnostic physician'. Few hundred years of medical experience, I know how to handle most of the common issues. The stranger cases get reported to me, and I research how to diagnose, treat, and manage such patients. And if you don't mind me returning the question, you're quite the stand-out yourself."
Crimson would feel a 'tingle', as Mikemon idly scanned the elemental's data. "If I caught it before, you said that you're 'older than the sands' here? How about 'older than the wetlands before it'?" Mikemon prodded at the point, at least a bit. "This place hasn't seen volcanic activity since antiquity."

”Sounds like it could of been a real problem if you didn’t get it under wraps… First I’m hearing of this sort of thing and that’s a surprise to me.”
Sure there were other things he had handled or dealt with in the past or some kind of things that he experienced but… this was truly new to him. But then came more parts about it. How they were just like him, wants, dreams, fears and such. That advanced of machines? He’d rub at his chin thoughtfully and quirk a brow at that mention of his enchantment.
”I’m not so sure that there’s any enchantment holding me to my form anymore. But that’s hardly the point. Machines have become a lot more advanced than I remember them being. Most of them that I’ve dealt with were made out of simple materials. Nothing metal about them. Clay and wood mostly. Sometimes porcelain.
Truly something strange to him. Even the town of rustport had machines but… last he went they weren’t anything like what he was seeing. He’d rub at his chin thoughtfully; quirking a brow slightly as the other said that he had a few hundred years of medical experience? That was quite a handful; much more than any of the doctors he knew. That he doubted that any of them were even alive at this point.
”Then they have themselves an expert in handling cases they need to handle… But a regular doctor would do them well too hmm hmm… Oh? Well.”
Feeling that tingle as his data was scanned brought one of his brows shooting up. He’d adjust just a bit and eventually recross his arms. Yeah this one had it right on the nose. The elemental gave a small shrug after a few moments.
”Older than the sands for certain, Wetlands? More than likely. I do remember a bit of volcanic activity when I was still naught but a vorvomon.”
The elemental mused and looked at the mikemon in front of him. Eventually unfolding his arms and leaning forward to stare at the doctor. There was an odd look about his face for a moment and then he’d just shake his head.
”I definitely know that I was here before the kingdom grew to strength for the empire after it was my doing. So yes ‘Antiquity’ would definitely be correct… what of yourself? Your signal is far different than any other here. Or within a hundred miles of this place.”

Wait... clay, wood, and porcelain? Mikemon actually had to blink a bit at that one, tilting his head as he considered exactly what that meant. "... Somehow, I doubt those were machine Digimon. They sound more like enchantment types."
After all, where did the Sistermon and Woodmon - the 'porcelain' and 'wooden' Digimon of today - come from? It probably wasn't worth hanging on the point for too long, though, and as Crimson mentioned Mikemon's experience in the matter, the feline gave a shrug.
"I'm sure that there's someone more qualified when it comes to handling machines, but that's not the only reason I'm here. My daughter needs the experience in working with these types of patients, so I volunteered."
Then, of course, came the topic of Crimson's age. Older than the sands, older than the wetlands, even remembering the volcanic activity before... just how old was this ancient Digimon? Before the doctor gave his answer, he found himself checking his D-Terminal, feeling it vibrate in his glove. "Tch..."
Right. He tilted his head for Crimson to follow, the doctor himself putting his face-mask back on, moving to help the next Guardromon in line. "Leaving us to wait, doc?"
"Sorry, sorry. This won't take long." Opening the service hatch, it didn't take long for the doctor to complete the brief diagnostics: "Same signal interference as the last five... we're going to flush it out with dead radio noise, and while I'm here, I'll flush the current through to check for damage."
A minute later, with the radio and the current running, the doctor would take a step back to let the system run.
"Short answer, I was a Dark Area native for the first bit of my life. Can't change the signal of where you're from - angels sometimes give me shit for it, but I've learned to deal with it."
Well... that was about as much as the doctor could say in open company, but there was definitely more to the story, there.

”I’m fairly certain they were machines, at the very least they seemed machine like. Often whirring or making strange sounds.”
The elemental gave a small shrug; he wasn’t dead set on them being machines. If they were enchantment types that was fine too. There was far more interesting things to him than the past… especially what was in front of him right now. Hearing that both this doctor and his daughter was here… her for experience and him for the job? Well that made the elemental far more curious about the two of them.
”Is your daughter a cat like yourself as well?”
With a flick of his ear the elemental found himself detecting the D-terminals vibrations in the other’s glove. Acute sense of hearing; not to the point of some others but.. Having four ears sort of put him in a different experience so to speak. Crimson would follow after the doctor and seeing the other putting on a mask he’d consider it but instead would just stay far enough away from the two to where it wasn’t going to be a problem.
”Mm. Not exactly what I was meaning Doctor but I understand what you intend.”
It was a topic that many would… not enjoy hearing about. Especially as patients; especially being worked on by such a being. His eyes drifted to the guardromon’s and he couldn’t help but marvel at their make. Were they more recent or were these ones that had been around for a while?
”Well. I’m native to this area. I ah, was born in a village not too far from here. It’s not there anymore; maybe some of the old pillars and markers but… Buildings? I’d be surprised if mud and thatch could survive even more than a few decades.”
The elemental laughed a bit and looked to the metal buildings that were around this place. He found this place more interesting than some of the ruins he had been through and that much would be clear to those around him.
”But I digress. How many more patients do you have Doctor?”
The elemental did want to continue their own conversation and in all honesty… This being hadn’t had a check up in… well he didn’t even remember when his last one was!
”It’s been ages since I’ve last seen a doctor myself and if you’re talking ‘walk ins’ we could continue our conversations in private?”

"Hm? Well, yes, she's a cat, but not another Mikemon. Right now, she's... about as tall as you?"
The cat didn't exactly know how to describe it. A desert native who hadn't been outside the sands for an eternity probably didn't know what a Meicoomon was, much less a 'Mei'. That aside, the doctor really had to get back to work...
... Not that this kind of doctor work really required any privacy! With the battery and radio set up, it would only be a few minutes before the Guardromon would be 'reset' and be fully free of the signal's lingering influence. Monitoring the system, the feline's ear would flick as Crimson continued to talk. "Anything that old is probably just part of the sands, now, even if it was made of Digizoid and chrome." Chuckling back, the feline would step back for another drink of water.
"Mm, hard to say. Its less 'how many more patients I have' and more 'how much longer the shift is'. This has already been going on for a few days, and this is just my day to volunteer." To Crimson's other point, though? The doctor crossed his arms, and looked over the volcanic elemental's frame.
"... Yeah, I think I can squeeze you in. Don't expect to find anything, but a Digimon of your age is bound to need a tune-up, one way or another. Anything in particular you're actually worried about?"

”Much like what was it called? Beastmons? I believe. Still I’m unused to think of felines much bigger than yourself.”
He wouldn’t really call beastmon a proper feline, more like a hybrid of a humanoid and feline. Though he would keep that opinion to himself knowing that it could create potential problems. If they wanted to consider themselves like that he wasn’t going to tell them otherwise! The elemental watched the Doctor with keen interest; he had never really seen work of this type on digimon of this kind so… It was all new to him!
”Mm. The only things we had that were made of Digizoid or Chrome was jewelery or weapons. It was rare to find enough to create any sort of armor so it was extremely valuable. Making a building out of the stuff was largely unheard of.”
The elemental gave a small shrug at the idea of even making something that valuable into something like a residence. Hearing that he was just doing this for a shift and less about the patients made crimson wonder… could he help at all?
”Well if you don’t mind me asking, is there any way I could assist? Lighten the load so to speak? Not that I doubt your resolve or skill but it seems unfair for you to push yourself or your daughter this hard. Even if it is for a good cause what good would it do if you drain yourself so much?”
Crimson tilted his head a bit and didn’t really mind the doctor looking him over again. It was something to get used to; he was a strange one he’d give them that!
”I’d appreciate it. Well I’d like to know the deal with the cracks in my body and if there’s any other underlaying health issues. The last time I saw a doctor was when the sands hadn’t fully come in yet so it’s been quite a while. I bet my core probably looks a bit of a mess as well…”
Crimson let out a small snort; staring down at the doctor for a few long moments. He had to wonder about this feline; about where he came from. Or at least what drove him to leave and why his signal was… the way it was. He rarely heard of those types giving up that power willingly.
But that was a topic and conversation for another time when they weren’t out in the open like this. And likely when the Doctor trusted him a bit more. Even if he knew that he wouldn’t judge them.

"Heh... not quite like a Beastmon, no."
But Mikemon knew where that guess came from: Beastmon was one of the 'older' species in the Digital World, tied to the Demon Lord, Barbamon, so it made sense that Crimson would know what one was. "Oh, those metals are way too rare to use them in any sort of construction work. You see them more in medical equipment and armor, nowadays." As for Crimson potentially assisting?
The doctor might have taken him up on it - the work wasn't exactly 'medically exact' - but the cat had to wave off the idea. "Sorry. Volcanic ash can react with exposed circuitry, which is... about everything I'm working with, today. Just another minute or so, alright?"
"Eh, understood, doc." The Guardromon gave a thumbs-up, as the doctor stepped away and stretched out his back. "Sometimes, you just have to knuckle down and get these sorts of things done. Besides, its a long day, but not exactly mentally 'taxing', considering these are all the same sort of patient. As for you..." The cat tilted his head.
"... Would you be able to stick around for, say, another two hours? Holly and I can both give you a look over."

”Hmm. Maybe it’ll do some good for me to see someone new then.”
Crimson didn’t know a lot of the newer digimon; most of the ones he did know where probably more of the ancient sort. Or at least ones that everyone was pretty familiar with. Hearing that they were used for medical equipment and armor rather than jewelry or some expensive gilding made him smile softly.
”Made to save lives then… how quaint. I could see that being largely helpful if it’s the strongest thing around...”
Crimson rubbed at his chin; it was hard to get it out of his head. Something so rare and as fine as that… used as armor or medical equipment? Would that mean if he stumbled across a quarry with the stuff he should probably tell someone about it now? Though with that thought pushed to the back of his head as mikemon explained that his ash would make it a bit problematic the elemental sighed and gave a firm nod.
”Ah yes that would do it wouldn’t it? Well if you need someone that needs to get rapidly heated or something then I would be your mon.”
Crimson let out a soft chuckle, leaning to watch the cat. Having all the same patient meant it was easy but it also meant it was repetitis and hard to deal with if you had too many. Draining as it were? Crimson found himself snorting softly at the mikemon’s question.
”What’s an hour or two to someone who’s lived for so long? I can wait. Just point me to somewhere where I won’t be in the way and come and get me when you’re ready?”
If he did crimson would do exactly that; content to sort of cloud watch while the doctor worked. He was a very calm and easy to get along digimon; it was clear that he had a lot of patience too. Was it the years that tempered him into this? Or something else? The answer would probably become more clear the longer that someone was around him….
