The funny thing about life is that sometimes the very thing you seek could potentially be right in front of you the entire time, even if you don't realize it. Unfortunately, that realization hit Kaya and Hawkeye like a freight truck when they realized that the RedMagnamon they've been searching for was actually the Shoutmon partner of Kaya's brother figure Adrian Boriker the entire time. It was bad for Hawkeye as he was starting to grow fond of the red dragon, but for Kaya... well, it was worse for her. And adding the fact that she just found out that her best friend Luneth was a Digimon as well wasn't helping things, either.
Once Luneth was all healed up and awake and the group all said their goodbyes, Kaya and Hawkeye didn't go back to the human world right away, telling the others that there was something they had to do. Afterwards they would leave Rosewood on foot, neither one of them sure about what to do or how to feel. They eventually reached a cliff near the edge of the Server Woods that gave a pretty beautiful view of the surrounding area. Kaya fell to her knees, angrily tossing her hat to the side, tears rolling down her face as she cried. "HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN SO STUPID!?"
"K-Kaya, please do not call yourself that," Hawkeye said, trying to keep his emotions under control despite the intense feeling of wanting to react exactly like Kaya is right now.
"And why shouldn't I?! He was RIGHT THERE in front of us the entire time! The same Digimon that killed Eizo and ruined your life just so happened to be the partner of the one person outside of my family that I've known for my entire life! Not only that, I only NOW just discover that Luneth is a Digimon, and he never told me! Am I untrustworthy? Not important enough to be told some pretty important shit?!"
"Kaya..."
"What else am I being lied to about? Is Kitt lying to me? Shi? Luna? Yuuki and Hikaru?! Hana, Data and Rush?! My own parents?!?"
"KAYA, GET A GRIP ALREADY!" Hawkeye eventually yelled at her, beginning to lose his patience with her own outburst. Kaya yelped in surprise, looking scared at her own partner as she waited for what he would do next. Thankfully Hawkeye realized what he had just done, and looked as if he immediately regretted it. "I... I am sorry, Kaya. But you are not the only one who feels hurt and betrayed by those two... Shoutmon's the one who killed Eizo, after all."
Recomposing herself, Kaya nodded as she wiped the tears out of her eyes. "You're right Hawkeye. It's just... I wasn't expecting RedMagnamon to be so close to us. I thought this would be easier to deal with. On top of all the lies, too..."
"No one could've anticipated the true identity of RedMagnamon unless they were explicity told like we were. The only question is, what are we going to do now?"
"Well, that's easy isn't it?" Kaya asked, getting up onto her feet and looking out onto the horizon. "I made a promise to you, Hawkeye. A promise I intend to keep. We're going to find Shoutmon, Digivolve you to Mega, and then delete him. I wish things didn't have to be this way but I'm done with people lying to me, and they had this coming for a long time. What do you say, Hawkeye?"
Hawkeye stared in surprise at his partner. "You'd really do that for me? Even though you and Adrian have all that history?"
"I would be lying if I said this wasn't a hard thing to do. Adrian was like a brother to me, after all," Kaya admitted, turing her head back towards Hawkeye, "but when you love someone, you gotta be willing to go to the ends of the Digital World with them, right?" A brief flash of pinkish red would then be visible in Kaya's eyes for a split second, a pure blink and you miss it situation.
Hawkeye smiled in response. "Yeah, I suppose you're right."
Kaya smiled back at her partner, looking out once again towards the horizon. If she was going to go on this path, there had to be no looking back. She had to change; she couldn't make this same exact mistake again, at all costs. She... she had to mature, give herself a permanent reminder of her growth. The wind began blowing through her long hair, and she suddenly got an idea. "Hawkeye, can you hand me one of your steel feathers please?"
"I... suppose so?" Hawkeye asked, taking off his headband feather and charging it with steel energy before handing it to Kaya, not entirely sure what she was planning to do with it.
Holding her hair upwards in her right hand and the steel blade-like feather in her left, she looked forwards from the edge of the cliff as the blade hovered next to her hair. All the times she had been looked down on by her friends and family, seen as just a child, or just full-on lied to played through her head. The one she was the most angry at was Luneth, who knew that she was a Tamer but still didn't say anything about him being a Digimon. Rage filled every part of Kaya Matsui, influencing her final decision.
"I'm not going to be that naive little girl anymore."
SNIP!
And just like that, Kaya had cut off most of her long blonde hair, giving her a more pixie-cut like hairstyle. She held her cut-off hair in her right hand, looking at it as it blew in the wind. She closed her eyes before letting go, her hair blowing out towards the forest below, most likely to disappear from digitization before too long. Now that that was done, there was no going back. Kaya and Hawkeye had a new mission now:
Find Shoutmon, and battle him.
