New Body, Time to Adapt [Open]
|
Post by steyr on May 12, 2021 4:32:06 GMT
It was early at dawn, so early that whenever he exhaled, he could see his own breath. It was good that he's very adaptable, being born in the cold north. Steyr at this point still confused whether he's a dog or a wolf, but either way...he felt he's more to the latter. As for what's doing this far, he's currently doing some warm up exercise. This park is about... the size of the track field in the vocational school if he remembers. There are several courses that he needed to do. First one is a straight sprint. Then there's obstacle runs, which is not a problem as he excels in those... and finally, he'll try some punching bag...
.....If it's not clear enough, this was the first time he's considering training seriously after he evolved. Hell, it took him like five days to not stumble on his steps because he's way too used to his form as a Wanyamon. It feels awkward, it feels... like a baby who just learned how to walk. Normally, when a Digimon evolve they can easily taps to their inner instinct of doing anything their new form can, but... Steyr, being a baby for more than fourteen years... his instinct of being in Wanyamon form basically like a saying "old habit dies hard"
....Imagine how hard Max laughed when Steyr hopped around the room as a child stage rather than walking (Admittedly, he facepalmed and laughed himself because THAT wasn't what he's expecting. It's all in good fun)
Anyway, once he feels his body is limber enough, Steyr grabbed a makeshift weight and strapped it on his body. 3km, 15 minutes is the passing mark, which means 12 km per hour is the speed he must constantly be in if he wanted to pass. A quadruped generally need to score that faster because they're... after all, quadruped! But that's irrrelevant.
"...let's aim for 12."
Which means he need to run at speed of 15 km per hour. Maintaining that speed for a child stage most likely aren't that hard, and especially with what Steyr done as a Wanyamon, his stamina reserve is great... You don't quite hop as much as him while you're still baby anyway. But it's another matter when you're carrying supplies on your back. He suspected that all that hopping was the cause of his now ripped body. But anyway... back to training.
"...Three... two... one..."
He blew his own whistle and that was all it needs for his stopwatch to start counting. Steyr shoot like a bullet. 3 km... he guess that the park's outer circle is around that, so he keeps running. For the meantime he's doing just well, still running well. But at halfpoint, the early morning air is starting to hurt his lungs. It's cold... it feels heavy. But all thing considered, this was far better than when he's a Wanyamon. Back in the past he would have wheezed and fainted if he tried to exert all of himself. Probably halfway to this point even. But this time around it's different. His body have evolved, and he's feeling far more ready. He run past the thickets, jumping past a small stream and ran all the way back... and when he hits the finish line, he blew his whistle. Steyr huffed and wheezed as he felt he have ran like he was never before.
"........and the time was... ah drats... 13 minutes!?"
That was definitely longer than he expected. He guess rather than his stamina he should be working on his footwork instead. His running is still a little bit awkward after all. Hmmm... Oh well, he'll take a break for the meantime... Steyr walked to a nearby water fountain and opened the faucet to... fill his water bottle. He don't think he'd lap the water, that'd be too much of a hassle.

Early dawn was a bit earlier than LJ was up and about normally but the recently digivolved Leomon X had entered a park in Rosewood feeling full of energy so he thought he would spend some time with his karate training so he could get used to being a champion level digimon so he could avoid accidently hurting someone.
The wind gently rippled through his blue cape as his brown eyes focused ahead of him as he got into a fighting stance and began working through his karate moves one by one. With his focus on his training the magical Leomon X seemed barely aware of anyone in the park but could smell and hear the stranger. He figured that he would leave the stranger alone for the time being.
Soon his training with his moves were finished and he moved on to doing pushups. Though no where near as strong as Lothar he could feel the raw strength rippling through him. Was this how all champion digimon felt? After his pushups were done he began doing situps followed by various other stretches before moving on to returning to doing his karate moves again.

A sense of relief had filled Kieran Doyle when he had finished his final exam the previous day. It had been a rather gruelling one, as exams in 2nd year Zoology tended to be, but it was the last one, and that was that until he began his final term in August.
He had turned down the offer to celebrate with classmates, feeling rather tired. Plus he had something else in mind to do the next day, and didn’t want to spend the time partying. So after a nice big dinner and a sleep, he woke up in the dawn light, smiling at the digimon that he shared his bed with.
Rex the Guilmon was usually a deep sleeper, so it took a little bit of gentle nudging before he opened his yellow eyes and yawned groggily.
“Nice, you’re awake.” Kieran told him. “Now then, first question, want to have breakfast here or in Rosewood?”
This made Rex’s morning grogginess vanish in an instant. “Rosewood please!” he said in his uncharacteristic deep, eloquent voice that often felt out of place considering his sometimes childish demeanor. Although Kieran was told that this was just a quirk of him being a Guilmon, known for behaving a little childishly at times. Rex mostly had it under control though, especially in public.
“Alrighty then.” Kieran said, proceeding to get dressed, putting on a dark green shirt, brown cargo pants and a grey jacket. “Looking forward to see what food they serve there.”
“I don’t remember ever being disappointed with the food when I was there.” Rex said, getting dressed too, although much more simply. The Guilmon wore a green tunic with a brown vest, an outfit that matched that of his brother Roy the Veemon, only Roy’s was red. Once they were ready, Kieran pointed his digivice at his bedroom wall, waiting for it to charge a portal. Once it was ready, and they could clearly see a wooded city on the other side, they proceeded to walk through it.
Once there, Kieran was glad he remembered his jacket. It was early morning, and even though it was meant to be late spring, the mornings were still a bit chilly. Still though, he was glad that it seemed to be sunny here, and businesses were opening around them.
“Ahh, feels great to be back.” Rex said, taking in the fresh forest scent. “Now then, there’s this bakery I’ve always wanted to show you, Kieran, let’s go check it out!”
“Alright then.” Kieran said, trying to gather his orientation after simply walking through the wall to another world. Honestly it felt very odd for him, a human to be walking here among digimon. For one thing, most of them were the size of children, but he wouldn’t make the mistake of underestimating their maturity or power, especially when most of them had long claws and sharp teeth. And sharp tongues for that matter.
“Watch where you’re going, human!” a large Drimogemon snapped at him after they nearly collided. Kieran apologized quickly, but then the Drimogemon noticed Rex. “Oh, sorry, sir, didn’t know he was with you.”
“It’s fine, no harm done, Darry.” Rex replied. The Drimogemon quickly went on his way.
“You know him?” Kieran asked.
“Yeah, Darry was one of the first digimon here, he was on the construction crew.” Rex said. “Roy and I helped him out a few times with catching some thieves that stole from him. We’re good pals. Here’s the bakery.”
“I take it you’re friends with the owner too then?” Kieran guessed.
“That we are.” Rex grinned as they entered. “Hello? Muchomon? Are you here?”
“You’ve been away a bit too long, Rex.” came the reply, as a fiery lizard digimon appeared. Kieran gasped at its frightening appearance, but calmed down as he heard her speak. “It’s FlareRizamon now. I evolved two years ago.”
“Ah, congrats!” Rex said, brightly.
“This is your human partner, I take it?” FlareRizamon asked, turning to Kieran. “Nice to meet you, your partner and his brother were two of my best customers. Every morning they’d buy a dozen rolls for breakfast between them.”
“Oh, wow, that’s cool.” Kieran said, not knowing just how well known Rex was here, it was certainly something to get used to, especially with all the time Rex had spent in the human world. “I’m Kieran. Nice to meet you too… FlareRizamon.” he had to get used to the fact that some digimon didn’t use names.
“Well then, the usual dozen then?” FlareRizamon asked, noting that customers were approaching and she couldn’t spend that much time talking.
“Actually, Kieran doesn’t eat as much as Roy, so we’ll just take the ten please.” Rex answered. FlareRizamon nodded, putting ten rolls in a paper bag, which Rex paid for (with a friendly discount), and the two left the bakery for the park. They found a good spot with a nice view of the surroundings and sat on a bench. Kieran noticed others present in the park, including a lion digimon doing karate moves. And also there was a black and white dog digimon who seemed to be running very intensely. Kieran watched him as he ate his roll, which was… actually quite delicious. It didn’t even need flavouring with butter, the fibre was so light and tasty that it pretty much turned to liquid in his mouth.
However, finishing it made his mouth feel a little dry. “Rex, is there a water fountain nearby?” he asked, then was surprised to see that Rex was about to eat his fifth roll. “...wow, you were hungry.”
“I guess I couldn’t hold back, it’s been so long.” Rex chuckled. “And yes, there’s one over there.”
They made their way toward it, just as the black canine digimon was, it seemed. They waited for him to fill his bottle up first. “Heya.” Kieran said, giving a friendly wave.
“Hi there.” Rex said, hoping his deep voice wouldn’t be too surprising to the stranger. “You must be new to Rosewood, I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before. Ah, I’m sorry if I’m being too presumptuous. I’m Rex, I used to be a Town Guard here, so I’d know most of the old faces.”
Kieran noted that Rex seemed to be much more talkative here than he was normally. He supposed some old town guard habits of his were returning. He hoped the unknown digimon wouldn’t be too bothered by it.

Once the bottle was filled enough, Steyr moved to the side a little bit to give a room for anyone who would like to have their drink too. as for him, he'd like to refill it again. He have no idea if he could slurp the drink anyway with his muzzle shape rather than lips, so he got a bottle that could spray the content straight to his mouth. Steyr craned his head up and sprayed the content in, enjoying the relief of having moisture in his dry throat after all the running.
"Whew... water sure is a bliss." and it beats those days where he have get water oh so slowly from water bottle. As he expected, being child stage is indeed nice. That's when he noticed that he wasn't alone.
"Oh, hey! Sorry about that, lemme clear the space a little bit for ya!"
Steyr walked off to the side slightly a bit further and sprayed more water in his throat. He listened to Rex explaining who he was and all that.
"Ah, nice to meet ya. I'm Steyr. Just... Steyr. I have been here for a bit while actually... Was the only baby in the post service, heh. I just evolved recently, so I'm now a Black Gaomon... according to my data, er, Havoc Gaomon. That's what I am. I oftne just stuck around the eastern part of the city because being a baby and all it's a bit hard to hop around and such."
After that he stretched his limbs a bit. "Whew. Anyway, hearing that you're the guard... does that means that you got recently partnered or something?" he asked. "Because I think even if you're not stationed on the eastern part, a Black Wanyamon being a mailman probably would attract quite the rumor."

As LJ wiped sweat from his brow with the back of one hand he became aware he of two more voices. Flicking his ears, the young Leomon X turned his head seeing a human and a Guilmon finish up eating and head for the water fountain nearby. Realizing he needed some water as well he walked over to join them.
LJ being open and friendly like his Wizardmon father, Mandrake, decided to speak to them while waiting for his turn for water. He hoped he wouldn't startle them but then his worry of that faded as they began speaking to each other. Smiling the seven foot Leomon X then said "Hey there. It's nice to speak to some others this early in the morning. I'm Lothar Junior but I prefer to go by LJ for short."
LJ carried himself with a calm but confident posture much like Mandrake. He was beginning to wonder if his parents were even in the region since, like them, he had taken up their wandering ways.

The Gaomon-like digimon seemed nice enough, giving them room to collect their water. Kieran took a few sips from the drinking fountain while Rex explained himself, glad to wash down his breakfast and replenish some fluids.
Rex listened intently to Steyr’s story. The revelation that he used to be a Wanyamon post officer brought some familiarity to him. “Ohh, you were that Wanyamon? I’ve heard about you.” the Guilmon said, smiling. “I’ve been in contact with some of my old friends here and they mentioned you. Even as a Baby II level, you had the reputation of being particularly intrepid in your duties.”
“Baby II Level… that’s the stage of digimon where they often don’t have legs and bounce around a lot, right?” Kieran asked as he finished drinking, wiping his mouth. “Ah… sorry if I’m sounding a bit newbish, I only became Rex’s partner recently.” he said. By now his natural Irish accent would be evident in what he was speaking. Even though he was born in Japan, he had been encouraged by his parents to keep his accent, and enough classmates and teachers in school were more charmed than annoyed by it, Irish being an exotic, yet innocent accent to take in. And for Kieran it had done more favours than embarrassment.
Rex didn’t need to use the water fountain yet, so he continued talking to Steyr as Kieran stepped away from it. The Guilmon nodded.
“Yeah, that’s right. I was a town guard with my brother Roy, he's a Veemon, but a while ago… probably 5 years in digital world time, we discovered that we were chosen to be partners to humans. So, with that revelation, we resigned as Town Guards and went to live with them. We all very much enjoy our living arrangements.”
They were interrupted by the Leomon-X that Kieran had observed earlier. Kieran and Rex momentarily paused, but replied politely.
“Hello, LJ.” “Hello, LJ.”
They then turned back to Steyr, given that they were already involved with a conversation with him. Kieran had to remark on his earlier observations.
“Pardon me if I’m being a bit nosy, but, I saw you going all-out there just now, and I’m curious what that was about.” he began. “I mean… the last person I saw running that hard was my big brother Aidan during his police training practice. Although I’m not too familiar with digimon, I am familiar with exerted force, and you looked like you were doing a bit more than a leisurely jog there.”
“Oh! Are you training to be a Rosewood Town Guard too, Steyr?” Rex asked, eagerly. He turned to Kieran. “We also have training requirements like that. A good guard needs the speed and endurance to keep up with a runaway troublemaker after all.”

"Ah so you have heard. Yeah I am that Wanyamon." Though being called intrepid made him blush and scratches his head. "I guess I was quite reckless as a baby, but... I thought I need to survive so I need to work. Those who doesn't work won't eat, and so I must work."
As he expected, the human is still new huh. "No, that's fine. Let's see, if you have been out of Digital World for about five years, that would means that you're out of the scenario for like a year human world time huh," Steyr rubbed his chin. "And on top of that, that was quite the unique accent. Irish... I think?" he wondered. Steyr probably sounded like someone who have been around humans a lot. This is not wrong, considering how in Ys he tried his best to be a friendly local to humans. Most of the humans he encounter are of course Japanese.
"I see, so that's what happened. I'm glad that you find yourself happy in other world too," he smiled. "Getting in new society can be quite hard, and I was glad that Rosewood was very accomodating of a baby that seems came out of nowhere heh... For that, I thank you for your service... I know you haven't been a guard and all anymore, but even then I'd like to extend my thanks."
And a Leomon X... suddenly approached? Saying that it's nice to talk?
....?
"Hello there," was all Steyr could say to that.
Being nosy is something that even Steyr have a problem with so he can understand. The Gaomon chuckled and shook his head, a sign that he doesn't mind. Rosewood guards huh... Steyr smiled but shook his head. "No, that wasn't... it. You're right that I'm training for something but it's not the guards. Not the knights either, uh... let's just say that I'm training to fulfill a promise to my old man. Unfortunately..." he looked at his stopwatch. "...13 minutes 2 seconds. That's not... as good as I'd like it to be. I'm aiming for 12 minutes. 3 kilometers, 12 minutes. I know I can't shoot for ten because well, I'm not a four legged Digimon. My stamina is good and all, but my legs movements are still awkward. I need to work on my footsteps too, being a Gaomon..." he decided to shadowbox, launching some fast jabs and hooks. While he can bounce on his toes well, unfortunately his legs often get tied while he moved around.
"See what I mean? I guess being a baby for so long made you unable to get used as fast with your sudden evolution."

When the water fountain was clear LJ bent over to take a drink himself while listening to the conversation. Apparently the Guilmon, Rex, had heard about Steyr when he was a Wanyamon. Steyr was obviously reckless as a baby so maybe that was how he might of gotten a reputation.
LJ looked at Kieran when he mentioned only being partnered with Rex recently. "The Human World is awesome and I can see why my parents visit there on a regular basis. I myself go to one of the schools there."
When Steyr looked at his stopwatch and mentioned that the time was not as good as he wanted it to be, LJ said "It's still not a bad time. As for being a baby for a long time I don't know what that's like since I got to rookie fairly fast but only spent maybe a couple months at most as an Elecmon. Maybe I take after my dads since they digivolved quickly as well."

Rex noted that he might have used too strong of a word. “Ah, I didn’t mean reckless, more like… admirably devoted to your job.” the Guilmon smiled. “Digimon in the postal service were incredibly important for Rosewood in the early days that I remember, so I’m just saying thank you for your service.”
Kieran blinked a little at how erudite his partner seemed to be talking here. But as he thought about it, he understood. While they were in the human world, Rex was out of his comfort zone. But now that they were back in his home, it seemed he was happy to be more outgoing and comfortable, even if he was no longer a Town Guard.
Kieran was also impressed that Steyr picked up on his Irish accent, and also deducing the time Rex spent out of the digital world. “Ah yeah… hehe, my dad’s from Ireland.” the young man explained. “He’s a computer engineer, he came to Japan in the 90’s when the computing boom was at its height. Then he met my mum, got married, raised me and my older brother and remain happy ever since.” he then wondered if he was talking too much. Kieran often did that, mainly because he got so much positive feedback from fellow classmates from speaking Japanese in a light Irish accent. Not too strong to be unintelligible, but enough to give off the air of being interesting. Although he was curious about how Steyr was familiar with Ireland and its language. But that could be questions for later.
Rex meanwhile beamed and bowed a little at Steyr’s praise for his service. “Thank you, it’s been an honor to have served this town and I’m proud of how far it’s gone in development.” the Guilmon replied. Yes there had been highs and lows, but seeing the village he and Roy had first entered now become a city, it was a beautiful thing.
LJ mentioned he went to one of the schools in the human world. “Okay, that’s nice…” Kieran said, awkwardly, hoping it wasn’t too much of a problem.
Steyr seemed a little evasive about answering Kieran and Rex’s queries about what he was doing in running so hard. That was fine by them, he didn’t owe them an explanation. “Ah, that’s fine. Well, all the best for you with your training.” Kieran said. Steyr mentioned he was trying to go for 3 kilometers in 12 minutes. “Whew, that’s a lofty target there…” Kieran remarked. “Only the best trained of us humans can manage that. But you digimon work on a different system, right, Rex?” he consulted his partner.
“Yes, we do, although the target was something less strenuous for the Town Guard.” Rex replied. “Back when Roy and I did it, it was 1 kilometer in 5 minutes.”
“Whew, this talk’s making me feel out of shape.” Kieran chuckled. Then LJ butted in and said he had it quite easy. Seeing that Rex and his brother Roy had struggled to evolve to Adult level in all their years in the digital world before they realized they were supposed to have human partners, this really grated with him.
"Excuse me, but, you seem to be a few steps behind us in polite conversation. We may be strangers with Steyr here but we've already established permission with each other to engage in social talk. You haven't. Could you please do so before you say anything else that may be inconsiderate and possibly offensive?"
Kieran felt the want to add his two cents as well. "Yeah, pal, that was pretty inconsiderate. Steyr just told us something he had a difficulty with and you started bragging about how well you had it. If he just had one arm would you reply that you felt so good having two?"
Rex noted that Steyr seemed to still need to grow into his new legs. “Well, you seem pretty determined to get it right, so I’m sure you’ll get there in the end.” he finished, hoping he sounded encouraging.

"Oh, no, I totally got that. I'm just saying that the other way around is true too. But admittedly there are not much job that would give a baby stage a chance. It was thanks to the Postmaster's kindness that I could work in the field. I just hope I'm not dragging anyone down too much heh heh!"
Steyr nodded at the talk. "I see, I see, that's interesting. A job that ended up opening up a new horizon... heh heh, even humans are quite close to how Digimons are I guess! And now that you're in similar situation, meeting with your partner, how do you feel about that, Kieran?" Steyr asked. "I mean, you're in new world, does it bewilder you? A lot of humans I met are, well, for lack of better words, veteran. They're already way too used to the business. What about ya?"
Steyr nodded happily at Rex's sentiment that he's happy about the development. "Yeah, it sure is wild isn't it? Seeing the growth of a settlement you used to know and boom! It became something greater than you thought it was! But I think it's even greater to feel that... you have something to do with that development, and I think it's one of the best feeling ever!"
...Talk about human world just make Steyr tilt his head. His father always told him to not look at human world with a rose tinted glasses. It'll only make him suffer. Lot of Digimons who wanted to run away from the constant strive that is Digital World will think they would find utopia in real world, but no. Their appetite will be their doom, and most Digimon ended up starving from being unable to hunt, let alone work because too many hoops to jump through.
"That's... nice I guess?" Steyr mused. Schools. That reminds him, maybe once he get his Adult stage he will try going to vocational school in Rosewood. He need to check on them again.
"I think cut the time by several seconds and you get what to expect from a Digimon. Cut even more to see what you can expect from a speed type Digimon, usually those with four legs," Steyr offered. "And please, don't feel that you're unfit or anything like that! Humans are not as strong as Digimon after all. Feats that are impossible for humans are normal for Digimons... that's because our nature as combat species. On the other hand, the tenacity of humans and their ability to innovate actually is something that we Digimon very much envies.Just think it as everyone have their own fields I guess?"
Though... LJ's words... does make him more than slightly offended. Normally, he be more positive about the entire thing, but so far LJ have been butting in, and then suddenly dropped that he could evolve faster. Honestly, is this guy purposely bragging or what? But thankfully his new acquaintances immediately spoke his feeling on his behalf.
"Thanks you two. LJ, I really think you should be careful with your words. Right words at right time. If you accidentally offend someone you shouldn't offend, you'll get worse than you tried to bargain."
...He know, after all. He remembered how his kind and humorous father looked like King Enma after he heard someone spreading nonsense rumors about how Steyr wasn't his son. He remembered how even Jill froze upon seeing their father's face as he stormed out as Plutomon immediately after. That wasn't something that he'd like to see again.

LJ was stunned. He was only mentioning taking after his parents when it came to reaching champion level fast not bragging about his athletic abilities. His stunned silence soon gave way to anger which he began visibly shaking with as he tried to keep ahold of his temper and seemed mostly successful except for the fact that his magical traits had become apparent as his normally brown eyes had bled light purple and were sparking. Yet, other than that, he said nothing.
Then tears appeared in his eyes before they slowly returned to their natural brown color. Despite having the form of an adult digimon deep down he was just a kid in an adult's body and hadn't got used to it yet so what happened next would of probably surprised some folks as the seven foot tall lion man ran for a nearby tree and sat down underneath it before pulling his knees to his chest and setting his chin on his knees while quietly crying.

Kieran and Rex noticed that Steyr had a tendency to downplay his efforts. While neither of them would counter or remark on it, they both took note to still make sure a compliment got through. Rex would oblige here. “Well, I’m sure the postmaster deployed you well.” the Guilmon said, simply.
Kieran pondered Steyr’s question about being in the digital world closely. Yeah… he supposed it was as alien to him as Japan had been to his father when he had first arrived. “I’ll admit, if Rex wasn’t here, I’d be really dang nervous.” he began. “But, he’s been with me for about a year in our world, and I trust him as my partner, so, I’d say I’m cautiously comfortable here.” he chuckled at a thought. “As a bonus, I seem to understand you digimon. My dad still struggles a bit with Japanese, but he does his best. It helped a little that he’s already bilingual with Irish and English. But at the start he would’ve been pretty overwhelmed.”
Steyr’s statement about it feeling great to be a part of something like Rosewood turning from a village to a city resonated with Rex. Yeah, he hadn’t done too many dramatic things with his brother as guards, but their presence on the streets was probably one of the many things that was needed to help make this reality come about. And it felt good. “I agree with you there.” Rex said, smiling.
Kieran was getting the feeling that Steyr was an individual just as insightful as Rex, which is probably why he was enjoying this conversation with him. “Yeah, good points there. There’s things digimon can do that we humans can think would be impossible, but, we humans can do amazing things if we work together on something. We’ve sent spacecraft out to visit every planet in our solar system you know.”
He knew by now it wasn’t really a bragging point about landing humans on the moon meanwhile, Kieran heard from Rex that digimon have a habitable moon that is home to a civilization, which is a bit more than what they’ve been doing lately with the Earth’s moon.
Kieran and Rex tensed up as LJ reacted with anger to what they said. Rex even interposed himself between LJ and Kieran, worried he might attack. Honestly, all they did was call him out on his manners, was he going to attack them over that?
Then all that faded and the Leomon-X instead ran away and started crying.
“Gosh… what was that about?” Kieran asked, astonished at the sight.
“Well, he did mention that he evolved rather quickly…” Rex reasoned. “Perhaps this is an effect of that? Well, as long as he’s not causing harm, let’s leave him alone to calm down and continue, shall we?”
“Okay, yeah…” Kieran agreed, feeling uncomfortable about being close to an unstable Adult level. But he did feel sympathy for LJ, they had been kind of harsh, but at the same time, they couldn’t tolerate his lack of tact so far. He turned back to Steyr. “Say, have you had breakfast yet? You must be pretty hungry after all that if you haven’t.”

"Y-you think so?" Steyr shyly scratches the back of his head. "In that case I need to thank him... well, until I got my dream job I'll be probably still going to work in the post office. It'll be good practice for running around the block too."
Hmm is that so? Interesting. "I think it helps that Digimon have... some sort of language translating features, so said my father. The gate is situated in Japan, so more Japanese speaking Digimons are usually available, but usually if you speak English to a Digimon, the Digimon would usually speak English to you too. The exceptions are tribal Digimons, who apparently more often than not speaks their own languages."
Steyr snapped his finger at Kieran's words and pointed. "There you go! For us, going to space is not something we can comprehend, like... why? It's only recently that the Moon is open and we had to ride some sort of space-specific Digimon to get there... but to begin with, without the data of the moon from the human world, you can't really get there. So... you have to admit, whatever Digimon get, humans did it first. You humans are great, don't think of yourself lowly, alright? You made changes that impacted Digital World after all."
When LJ got angry, Steyr actually was ready to defend Rex and Kieran, eyes glaring back at the Leomon. He's ready to fight for his new acquaintances who defended him. His Dorumon father always told him "pay goodness with goodness". He will, no matter what. But then the big lion man instead walked away and cried on his lonesome.
What?
Steyr was admittedly flabbergasted and looked at Rex and Kieran if they saw that.
"...I guess so," Steyr commented. But really he have never heard the side effect that someone ended up still stuck in child mentality even at adult stage. He heard however that there are Digimons who changed their personality based on form... or better said, their temperament. This was quite unheard of for him, so he just... looked quite lost of what happened.
"Oh, uh, I got a friend who cooked meals for me! In turn I kind of clean up the house for him. He's a good friend and an awesome cook. Now that you mentioned it, why don't I share some of this meal with you guys? He cooked me too many I think. He anticipated that because I'm now a child stage, I would have bigger appetite. He's not wrong, but this many food... heh, he must be excited... But hey, I can't finish this all, so what about you guys?" he invited Kieran and Rex.

As LJ gradually calmed down he realized that he had likely scared the others when he was mad and his magic making his eyes bleed light purple and spark definitely didn't help cut down the intimidation factor. He understood why the others took a protective stance because they didn't know he wouldn't of harmed them for angering him especially since they had a point. He had not yet mastered tact and in his excitement at the prospect of potential new friends he was unintentionally alienating himself. Boy being an adult was hard and it seemed he still had a lot to learn.
Pushing himself to his feet since he was calm again, LJ walked up to the others and said "Sorry if I scared you guys when I was angry. When I'm in such a state it seems my magic makes me look more intimidating but I wouldn't of hurt you guys. That and you guys are right about my lack of tact but I am trying to improve. I guess being an adult is not as easy as my parents make it look."

Rex smiled. “Well, that’s a good plan in my view. You’re still helping out others to the benefit of the whole city, so that would be a great way to go about it.”
Kieran listened to what Steyr had to say about Tribal digimon. He sighed and nodded. “Yeah, I suppose that’s a thing. Rex told me that he and his brother originated from a group of digimon that hated humans.” he turned to Rex. “You lived on ElDoradimon, right?”
“Yeah, we did.” Rex confirmed sadly. “We were born in that society. We never really disliked humans ourselves, and every time we tried to ask why, they hurt us. So we left. And we haven’t looked back since. I for one am very proud of having a human partner, and I feel very sad that my former community hated them so much. Kieran has given me nothing but kindness and I do love him.”
Kieran blushed something fierce here. He had yet to explain to Rex the nuances of what the word ‘love’ meant to humans. But… he smiled, given that he had an inkling of what Rex thought it meant – the ultimate emotional bond between two individuals.
“I’m… very flattered, Rex.” Kieran said, patting Rex’s back. The Guilmon looked back up at him and flicked his tail happily.
After that, Kieran felt even more flattered on Steyr’s statement about humanity. Yeah, there were times that Kieran felt he was just one of seven billion, but him hearing this from a being from another world, in their world, it rather made him speechless for a moment. All he could say was “Gosh… thanks.” while making a beaming smile.
Then LJ had his episode. Neither Kieran or Rex liked it at all. When he went away, they hoped it was over. So they turned to Steyr, who offered some extra food for them. And it smelled delicious.
But then things were complicated further by LJ returning. At least he apologized for this episode, but Kieran still felt unsafe with him around. Rex caught onto this, then the Guilmon brought all of his experience in being a town guard delivering bad news to his mind and answered.
“I’m sorry, but we don’t feel safe in your presence anymore.” Rex said, politely but firmly. “Please leave us alone for now. I hope one day you can have a better control of your emotions, but for now, we no longer wish to have you near us.”
Kieran was somewhat aghast that Rex said this, but the Guilmon thought he was in the right here. Both he and Steyr were Child levels, and having an unstable Adult level who seemed to have little to no situational awareness or care about them nearby was a threat, so he wanted LJ to leave them alone.
