"Let's see... South Ward, we're here... and there's a bistro by name of... in a street of...." Steyr looked around for the sign of the street and the row of stores, sometimes mixed with houses. Some people apparently liked this area because it's closer to the south, which means, slightly more humidity when it's much closer to the Bayou. If Steyr heard it right apparently there's a Phantom Pepper or something that got cultivated by his friends., but the living condition ended up having to be closer to the bayou, so it ended up placed here. Said pepper is a green pepper, but the name escaped his mind. It was quite the unique pepper that's for sure, although he can't eat too many because, hello, baby. Nowadays he enjoyed the spiciness though! In fact he must say that it's quite addicitive.
His father suggested that some virus types are more into spicy foods compared to other tastes. Come to think of it, he wonder if there will be any siblings of his that are into cooking down the line, considering Bu took his Dorumon father's liking for bartendering. (A lot of her drinks ended up in her own stomach though).
"Rex, Kieran, we're here!" Steyr pointed at the shop. "I think Max got some great positive review thanks to his usage of his unique ingredient and he have decided to open his own restaurant. Or so I heard, but I might be wrong! Either way, here we are. It's already in it's opening hours too. That's perfect."
True enough there's already several patrons inside. Steyr immediately opened the door, tail wagging slightly as excitement builds up. Heh heh, somehow he's feeling a little bit peckish now that he's here.

Max the Impmon-X had been tending to his vegetable garden that morning. Going from advice from his good human friend Tetsu, as well as the universal lesson of experience, he found that the better he tended to his ingredients, the better his dishes would be.
There was so much variables to how edible plants grew. The quality of the soil, the water they received, even the direction they were facing, since only direct sunlight was adequate for them. And Max was running experiments for how to nurture each plant in his garden for certain flavours. It had become quite a fun hobby for him, outside of cooking, and was also something he could use to relate to Tetsu when they met, so it was a roundabout social activity too.
Not that Max had been short of those. He had long welcomed Steyr the BlackWanyamon, now the HavocGaomon into his life as a friend, mainly because they both had a lot in common. Both had difficulties with evolving, and both wanted to escape the pressures of their families and find their own way forward, with no negative judgement. So Max was happy to share his home with Steyr, recognizing a mutually beneficial relationship when he saw it.
After Max had finished with the garden for now, he took a quick shower to wash the dirt out of his purple and white fur, feeling nice, clean and refreshed at the end of it. Then he proceeded to his restaurant, greeting the staff inside cheerily. He did a preliminary check of the dining area, kitchen and ingredient storage to ensure everything was good to go, then when he gave the thumbs-up, business opened.
The pre-work breakfast peak came and went, and the scent of toast, eggs, sausages and coffee lingered in the air as the restaurant transitioned to its “brunch” phase, which was normally more quiet, but usually had enough customers to justify keeping up operations.
And today was no different. There were 4 other digimon in the restaurant when Steyr entered, along with a Guilmon and a human. Max looked them over initially with caution.
“Hey there, we’re friends of Steyr.” the Guilmon said, in a surprisingly deep and smooth voice. “My name’s Rex, and my partner’s name is Kieran.”
“Ah, w-welcome.” Max said, a little taken aback by that pleasant voice. “Nice to meet you. And glad to see you too, Steyr, hope your training is going okay.” he added to his HavocGaomon friend.
With the introductions made, Max indicated a nice four-seat table near a window that was available for them to sit at. “So then, you guys make yourselves comfortable and pick what you like from the menu. I gotta sort out some orders for a moment, but it shouldn’t take too long.”
Supposing it was quite a nice seat, Kieran and Rex sat together on one side, allowing for Steyr to sit opposite them.
“This place does seem pretty nice.” Kieran remarked, looking around, appreciating the natural wooden look of the restaurant. Honestly, it felt as comfortable as a rural country restaurant in the human world. And he was eager to complete his breakfast with some quality food. He perused the menu.
Rex meanwhile noted that Max and Steyr knew each other, yet Rex had not yet met Max. He looked to his new friend. “Max seems nice, Steyr. Is there anything you can tell us about him?” he asked, curiously.

"Hey Max," Steyr greeted with a wave. "Mmmm, not too shabby I guess, but could do a lot more improvement, I admit," he nodded sagely. "No worries about that. Just take your time with other customers... though don't take too long when it comes to serving our food," he joked. Steyr gave him a pat on the back. "Goodluck, Mate."
Steyr picked up the menu and already decided one of his choice of food. Today he'd like some hot chicken curry with rice. However, knowing how bad it is for suddenly eating spicy food with empty stomach he decided something else before that... let's... probably salad with few slices of honey roasted beef? He'll get half portion of the honey roasted beef. For the dessert, he'll pick some ice cream.
"About Max huh... well, the first time I came here, I got hired thanks to the postmaster saw me almost fainting on the side of the road, and so he gave me job and food to fill my stomach in. I used to live in a small room above the post office. Then, one day I was going for a little delivery.... it's pretty heavy, but apparently it was a bag full of spices. This was my first meeting with Max. We kind of hit it off from there, and then he offered his place to stay. It was quite close to the post office so I accepted. In return for giving me shelter, I kind of test his food, which is always a treat, and clean around the house. Sometimes when you're small, it's easy for you to get in spots that he couldn't.
Well, I have since moved out of his house, but we're still neighbors. It's just I feel like I need a bigger place... and while Max's place is nice, there's some kind of sentimental value I'd like to have with my own home yanno? I still often come around to clean up and just generally staying over to chill, also give him some ingredients I found while out around the woods, maybe he'd like to try cooking with it or something..."
Steyr stretched. "Whew. Anyway, that's pretty much it. He's a swell guy who let a baby who know where from bunk at his place, and honestly... I still think taht I owe him a good portion of my life for giving me a place to sort out myself and get used to this whole independence thing."

Max appreciated the chummy response from Steyr, gave a wink, then returned to the kitchen to sort out the orders for the remaining customers. As a chef, he would not lower his professionalism, not when there were customers waiting to be fed. As long as the chef whites were on his person, excellence in the kitchen was his goal.
As Max supervised his cooks patiently, saying nothing as he was satisfied with their work so far, Kieran and Rex listened to what Steyr had to say about them.
Apparently Max had let Steyr live with him for a while, until he evolved and sought his own residence. That act of kindness alone made the two agree that the Impmon-X was a good person.
“Aw, that’s great to hear that you guys are friends.” Kieran remarked. “That’s a really nice story.”
“Indeed, he seems to be quite passionate.” Rex added, noting that Max was blushing furiously through his scarf at seeing both him and Steyr. But he chose not to say anything else.
Max eventually returned after a few minutes, once he was satisfied with the last remaining brunch orders, then returned to their table.
“Sorry about that. Now that you guys are our only outstanding orders, I can chat to ya for a bit.” he said. “Monty here can take your orders.” he nodded to the Monodramon that accompanied him, who held a pen and clipboard at the ready.
“Oh, ah, right…” Kieran said, quickly looking at the menu. “I’ll have a cheese and bacon croissant please.”
“And I’ll have an egg muffin, please.” Rex added. After Monty took down Steyr’s order too, he would return to the kitchen. Max trusted the kitchen staff to perform their best for his friend and his acquaintances, so he didn’t feel the need to watch them.
“May I please join you?” Max asked. Kieran and Rex gave their consent, and so Max sat down next to Kieran. “Thanks. First of all, welcome to Rosewood, I assume you guys are new here? And given that you’re here with Steyr, I’m betting on you being good guys.”
“Thanks. I like to think so, given I used to be a town guard here.” Rex replied. This made Max raise an eyebrow.
“Really? What made you quit?” he asked.
“Pretty much finding out that I’m meant to be partner to a chosen human, so, that compromised my position.” Rex answered. “Same with my brother, whose human partner is also my partner’s brother.”
“Huh. That’s interesting.” Max remarked. Both of his parents had human partners, so much as he knew, but he did not. And while he had lacked the ability to evolve normally, he still grew stronger in power, to the point that he could fight at the level of Perfect if the situation arose, that still made him curious.
Regardless, he still wanted to talk to Steyr, so he turned to his HavocGaomon friend. “So, pal, how’s your training going lately?” he asked, knowing of his aims to be ready to join the 7/71st.

"Heh, passionate doesn't really cut it. I promised if I go out of here for some training that I'll look for nice food materials for him to test out. I also have to record where I found it, what day, what weather, what time, what was the temperature and such. Apparently he was taught by another friend about these standards when going to forage for new food items. Oh he also gave me index of what he have found so I wouldn't mistook it as any common materials or already found materials. I like that part of him though. Someone's that passionate about their craft might sounds like pain in the butt for most people, but... I know, for a fact, that a passionate one will be unstoppable. That's why as much as possible I'd like to support him.
...Let's just say, it's something that have been taught to me since early: If you see someone who's very passionate, encourage them of their positive growth, nip the bud of bad ones. Be a pillar for them, and always be a great presence for their growth."
Oh right, orders! "Hmm, let's see... I'll be having a spicy chicken curry with naan, then. I'm still feeling a bit full after eating the breakfast, but that should hit the spot!"
Steyr watched as Rex and Kieran made small talk with him. It's quite interesting to hear, though... Someone who originated from El Doradimon could actually be partnered... Who would have guessed?
"Oh training? Yeah, I still struggle with having feet heh," he chuckled. "But my martial arts are doing fine. I think it's good that I have old knowledge of how to do various martial arts. Stamina is no problem. Apparently my stamina is what I'm really good at, after.. you know, bouncing for so much for fourteen years bound to do that to you... that and..." he slapped his abs, grinning teasingly... but then immediately got serious.
"....But this means that I've gotten to a point where I can no longer afford to... just independently train... there's part of me that... wanted to go out there, Max. Like, I feel like somethig is waiting for me, but I dunno what. I can feel it in my core... something... something is trying to tell me that I need to find it if I really want to improve, both as an individual, and as a soldier."

Kieran and Rex noted that Steyr had a lot of positive things to say about Max. Yes, he sounded pretty precise, but not to the point of being annoyingly anal. In fact from what Kieran heard of him, he could empathize. It sounded like Max wanted to learn as much as the culinary world around him as he did about the zoological world. And Kieran could respect that.
Rex meanwhile thought that maybe was a little too intense of a lifestyle to be healthy, but the Guilmon wasn’t one to judge on the matter before he got to know Max properly.
Monty the Monodramon took their orders with courtesy, then returned to the kitchen, taking care to make it known to the line cooks that they would be preparing a meal for their chef here, and that put them on their full notice. As they did their best to cook their orders to perfection, Kieran, Rex and Max paid attention to Steyr as he explained his situation. Both Kieran and Rex noted Max made a longing grin as Steyr played around, but neither drew attention to it, deciding this was a matter for them to sort out.
But both Kieran and Rex remained silent as Steyr addressed Max directly, stating he wanted to be the best in combat that he could possibly be. Max understood this. His data was filled with the memories of both of his parents, the failure to achieve a noble goal and save someone he cared about. He felt this from both Bellamy, and from Coronamon.
“Well… I have at least heard of advice in this regard.” Max began, speaking carefully. “If you’re feeling in doubt of yourself, hunt for your digimental. I’m told there’s loads out there, but they only make themselves known to digimon that seek and truly deserve them. And even if you don’t collect and assimilate with the digimental you were hunting for, sometimes that’s all you need to ascend to the next level.”
Kieran was a little confused at this statement. “Digi… mental? What’s that?” he asked.
“They’re artifacts that help us digimon evolve outside the normal way of drawing power from our human partners.” Rex explained. This just made Kieran blink, so he turned back to Steyr.
“Would hunting a digimental help you out, Steyr?” he asked. If so, he would be willing to help out his new friend as such.

"Hmmm, that's honestly a good suggestion,a really good one...." Steyr mused, a looming 'but' implied from his tone "But, I have... tried that, not gonna lie. More like, my parents tried. One of my father feels like it might be possible for me to evolve through Digimental, so they borrowed around, see if there's one that could fit me... but in the end... none, none of them... Various doctors diagnosed me with an inability to... evolve through external factor. Basically, how to say... they said my body already very much numb toward external influences, so Digimental unfortunately will not work on me. If there's some sort of trigger for me to work, it must come internally."
...He guess that was why he only able to hit child stage now. It was because it took years of trauma and finally getting confronted with his feeling of inadequacy and that suddenly his parents and family being treated like they abandoned him even though they did the hardest they could to help him that made him snap so badly. Though... there was a saying that... after breaking an eggshell it would be far easier to break it further. So he guess this time around it would just be matter of time.
"So I don't think hunting them would help per se, but I think on the other hand being in contact with more human might help? My Pops' human partner, you see, he said that humans sometimes radiates crest energy the stronger they are in their conviction. When this is at their highest, they can evolve their partners. However, at the same time, surplus of this energy from the Digivice might bath surrounding Digimon and in some way... causes them to be able to evolve too if exposed repeatedly for long amount of period of time.
So I think it might help if I start tagging along with some humans. Not to mention it might help them in the long run. I might be just a child stage, but even then I feel... I can help a lot! Even if it's just for Digimon common sense or translation, I think I can do that!"
And that was his explanation

Rex felt great sympathy to Steyr as he said this. Perhaps there just wasn’t an answer to his problems that was immediately available? “That’s okay, nothing wrong with that.” the Guilmon assured him.
Max was of a similar mind. “Yeah. Like, the digital world’s pretty good for digimon that just wanna make their way in life, not achieve their maximum power or anything like that. The strong help the weak, especially in Rosewood, and, heck, who can judge someone as weak this day and age? I can’t evolve very well, but I’m livin’ my best life cooking delicious food for everyone that wants it.”
Kieran felt the need to say something too. “I’m just a human, so, I can’t evolve much past what I am now, but, I agree, it’s much better appreciating what I’ve got than longing for more.”
They listened further to Steyr. The HavocGaomon suggested that maybe spending time around a human and partner to learn more about the energies and bonds of digivolution might help. Max picked up on this too.
“Hey… that sounds like a great idea.” Max added. “If it’s okay, can I hang out with you guys too? I mean, you can evolve your partner too, right?”
“Uhh, yeah, we can.” Kieran said, a little taken back by this sudden proposition, but Rex grinned and nodded, indicating he was fine with the notion.
“Okay then, let’s hang out together for a while.” Max said, happy to seal the notion. “But first, let’s have our meal, eh?”
On cue, the staff from the kitchen presented their brunch meals.
