“W-what is this?!” Most of the time Shimo did not like to be held. In fact there was nothing more demeaning to him than being cuddled like some kawaii stuffed animal. So even Hamish was surprised when the furry fox had jumped onto his shoulders trembling from the sensation of the cube pulling up and off the ground. As a creature typically in full control of his own footing even when on thin ground, Shimo was not used to such a feeling hence the full blown freakout. “It’s the elevator. How do you think we get around in a building this shape? Don’t worry, its perfectly safe, hehe, the cords only ever broken twice - OW!” That joke got him a slap of floofy tail on the head. “Next time I’ll bite you if you say that!” “Well you’re out of luck cause we’re here.”
The elevator open up to a living room that was an open concept style, aka there was no real wall between that and the kitchen, which consisted of two islands, one with a stove that came with surface space for cutting things and such, the other holding a sink and some appliances with a fridge on the end. It was pretty minimal for such an exquisite penthouse, but Hamish wasn’t much of a cook anyway. He had the skills for it, just necessarily the time or patience. Nex to the island was a small table some and chairs for purposes of eating, most serving for easy breakfasts like toast and congee.
“You can go anywhere you want in here, just don’t...chew on the wires in my office or anything.” He motioned to the loft overhead which served as his homebase for work when needed. The medium sized bed up there could also be for guests, which was only usually his parents but he always put them in a local hotel anyway for visits so they could have their own space. “And no using the stove.” Shimo gave him a strange look. “First of all, what am I a rabbit? Second, how can I use the stove without opposabl thumbs?” The man shrugged. “Anxiety. The drive of hunger. Something we say in business is, where there’s a will there’s a way. ”
While he let the fox digimon sniff around to get used to his new space, the man had plopped on the couch with phone in hand open to the amazon app, scrolling through the many different pet toys and items. Not that Shimo was a pet by any means, with that personality he was more like a cranky roommate who didn’t pay rent. Okay so a pet but he’d never say that outloud unless he wanted to lose a finger.
Would he be offended that Hamish was ordering toys for him? It was just that he wanted the digimon to be comfortable in this place and not feel like it was so..sterile for him? The cat tree climbers he say intrigued him, but they were much too small for a digimon of his size so he left them be for the time being, make a note to look into ordering something more custom made later. Perhaps he could even get someone to install some play tunnels in the walls or something.
Tap tap tap. “What’s this?” Shimo had come upon the glass door to the outside porch which contained a few lounge chairs and a small table. Again, this barely got used except when guests visited so he could flex the view to them. But maybe now he would feel the need to sit out here more since the fox seemed to like being outside. “Want to see?” He unlocked the bolt on the sliding door, opening it, the fox bounding outside, surprised by the whoosh of fresh air he suddenly felt, his mouth making an o shape in it’s quick speechlessness. “We’re outside! How can we be outside if we’re up so high?!” This broke every law of physics im Shimo’s (very limited) knowledge of things. However, he quickly put two and two together. “So its like...we’re inside but we’re outside?” The blonde man nodded. “Think of it as a...room without a wall!”
“What’s that?” Shimo had climbed onto the table to get a better view of the skyscrapers and noticed a red and white pointed building not far off in the distance. “That would be Tokyo Tower, it’s kind of a famous landmark around here, it goes all the way up to the top, you can see so much of the city from there!” Oh great, more elevators.
When they went back inside, Shimo ran over to a glass case holding several figures of women from various games and animes, some a bit more...scantily clad than others. “What are these?” Asked the fox with genuine curiosity in his tone. “Uhhh just some...art I collected, nothing too interesting, let me show you the rest of the place!”
Hamish took him to the bathroom that had a tub that was practically the size of one you’d find in an onsen. Something he’d appreciated when he came to this country was that Japan definitely didn’t mess around when it came to state-of-the-art bath technology. These people took pamper time seriously. Shimo, who was used to bathing in cold outdoor rivers, was surprised when he put out his paw to feel the warm water. “Want me to wash you? It’ll feel good I’m sure after all the traveling you did!” Shimo scoffed at the human’s offer. “How juvenile, I can clean myself after all!”
Hamish chuckled and patted the fox on the head. “That’s fine! Whatever works.” Having known what his life was like up until now, the man did not want the fox to think he was ever attempting to take away his freedom or restrict him of his lifestyle. “By the way...you can come and go whenever you like Shimo, don’t think you have to stay in here all the time or something. Whatever makes you comfortable!” That confused the fox a bit consider how...clingy he had been when they first met. Before he could comment, a dinging sound at the door practically sent him running for the hills. “Foods here!”
Some coaxing out from under the bed later, Shimo was at the table ready to dig into the gyudon Hamish had ordered for him. “So humans...they don’t go get their own food, they just have it brought it to the door through a control device?” “Sometimes, most of the time we go buy it to cook, but for making things easier, once in a while we just order it for delivery.” He noticed the fox looking outside. “Want to eat it on the porch? You have to see what the city looks like at night!” Suddenly Shimo’s eyes lit up as bright as Tokyo as he ran for the door, seemingly jumping right into a new adventure.
