Oh Dear Lord, He's Hopeless (Closed)

Zack raised a bemused brow as he heard Shi's more than small amount of self aggrandizing, he did take both numbers and stuff them into his pocket to be put into his phone at a later date. Though it was beginning to dawn on him that all of the Tamers and other folks that he had met that were wrapped up in this entire mess were living in the same city in Japan that he was.
"Oh? A little bit confident aren't we, Mr. Shi?" He said, snickering to himself about it, sighing. "Well that's good, confidence is good." he smiled, looking over at Stacy and then up at Marigold as she flitted back and forth around the massive orange dinosaur that was serving as her jungle gym. "She is a good kid, and I want her to have everything she could ever possibly need. You guys weren't there when I first saw her. So small, so scared of the entire world. The way she shrunk away from my hand when I reached out to her the first time still breaks my heart just to think about it. I'm still praying that I have the strength to show her a world worth living in." he explained swallowing as his mind began to wander around the concept.
Marigold was seated, resting her overeager body on one of Yuudai's shoulders, panting slightly as her eyes scanned down over the landscape. She spotted her father and his new friends off in the distance only to see a small group of Digimon gathered behind one of the large house buildings. The main one she focused on was a Floramon that was throwing its weight around, bullying and brow beating a bunch of gathered baby Digimon. Even if she couldn't hear from this distance, she knew that that sort of behavior looked like. And the second she recognized it she rose off of Yuudai's shoulders, her wings buzzing like mad as she took of like a shot, zipping through the air like a jet.
"HEY!!!" She shouted with a voice and volume that broke the atmosphere of the courtyard around her, not slowing down as she got closer and closer to her target, moving faster than any of the more relaxed "adults" in the situation could react.

Shi heard the comment about him being confidant, for a second Shi looked up at the sky. He heard Zack mention that confidence was good but that wasn't it. "Nah, I just know how it feels to be alone in the digital world. So it's not confidence, I just want to make sure if any human, digimon really needs help they have someone they can ask. Cause I know what it's like to not have that." Shi was pretty well aware of how this world worked, having someone willing to help would at least be a good piece of mind while exploring the crazy world as it was. "Besides, Yuudai and Yasuo both keep telling me I need to talk to more people..." They didn't like him playing the loner, so this would probably get them off his back for a little bit.
Shi didn't really have a response to that second part, he just gave a small nod assuring that he heard Zack. That did seem pretty sad to think about though, but Shi was never really good at expression emotions. Might as well just keep quiet.
Yuudai meanwhile had noticed Marigold fly off his shoulder, he started to get up as he saw the kid fly off. Yuudai hadn't noticed towards what but he was still worried. Just for one of the younger digimon to get in a pretty cheap shot on the side of his head. "Oof, Hey. I said no aiming for the eyes." Yuudai broke character for a moment as the smaller digimon apologized, Yuudai lost sight of Marigold for a moment but the loud hey made him get up and start walking towards the direction of the noise.

While listening to Zack and Shi talk to each other Stacy's gaze returned to Marigold, who was sitting on Yuudai's shoulder and looking somewhere in the distance. Glancing in that direction Stacy squinted but couldn't make anything out and it wasn't just her bad eyesight. Obviously Marigold could see across farther distances than a human but then since digimon had stronger abilities than the average human it made sense.
When the little one began flying away real fast, Stacy thought 'What's gotten into her?' Then she turned to Zack and Shi and said "Hey guys, Marigold is flying off and she's doing it in a real rush. I don't know if she is off on a toilet." She then began to rise to her feet almost losing her balance but managing to correct herself before she then said "Perhaps we should go after her since she is small and can easily get lost."

Zack's head canted to where he heard Stacy talking, he had honestly forgotten about the level of exhaustion that he was running on...right up until Stacy pointed out to him that his digi-daughter was zipping through the air, right out of sight and behind the shape of one of the massive buildings that housed the Digimon who were being cared for in this place. Her voice rang like a church bell in his ear and he bolted to his feet, taking only a moment to help Stacy steady herself to make sure she didn't fall over before he took off running too.
"How about you pick on somebody who isn't too small to pick back?" She said, hiding the ground with enough force that she had to skid to a stop, her glowing body leaving eight distinct skid marks in the dirt and dust that she kicked up into a cloud around her. As that dust settled the new body she was inhabiting became clear to see. The sunlight overhead glinting off of a dense golden body with deep bronze stripes. A Fanbeemon, wings spread out wide and serrated stinger glittering silver in the sunlight.
"H-hey, man, I-I was just kidding around..." the Floramon said, instantly stopping in its tracks and letting go of the neck scruff of one of the baby digimon it was holding. The little digi-kids instantly bolted behind Marigold as she stood there, holding her ground effortlessly as Zack rounded the corner, pausing and not making himself instantly known.
"Yea well the next time I see you "kidding around" with someone smaller than you like this, we'll get to find out how you like it." She said, her wings buzzing in a way that made more of the dirt and sand around her feet get kicked up, outlining her form in the billowing cloud. Her eyes were narrowed and determined in the moment just before the Floramon nervously giggled to itself and then mumbled a half baked excuse to make itself scarce. Only when it vanished through the back door into the building did Marigold relax, turning her head to each of the baby Digis in turn and patting them on the head with one of the dull points of her legs. "Everyone alright? Nobody's too shaken up? Good, good." She smiled, putting on a brave face before a voice from behind her made her head jerk in its direction.
"Marigold..." Zack said, standing at the mouth of the alleyway, his shadow stretching down the length of the mini path. Marigold spun to face him and opened her lips, yammering and stuttering as she tried to find something to say only for Zack's dumbfounded expression to be replaced with a wide, goofy grin. "That's my girl!" He said, rushing her and dropping to his knees, wrapping his arms around her scarf clad neck as he reveled in her brave, slightly reckless but heroic move.

Well looks like the little girl was gonna be getting into problems, which was pretty much normal in the digital world. Shi slowly got up, dusting himself off for a second putting his hands in his jacket pockets as he looked over to the little kids. "Well she seems to have it handled." Shi muttered to himself, though it was easily audible figuring they didn't need to get involved. "But yeah best go after her real quick." Shi added louder this time so it was easier to hear as he started to walk over to the digimon.
Yuudai had managed to get the kids off him and come over to check out the situation. "Ahh darn, I keep telling those kids to stop that. Sorry you had to see that Marigold. and sorry little ones." Yuudai apologized to the kids looking a bit disheartened.
Shi by then had walked up and patted the Greymon on the back. "Don't worry Yuudai, we were hired as Gatekeepers not babysitters. The fact that you're also taking time to play with them and keep em safe is good enough." Shi didn't want Yuudai feeling down about himself, his words seemed to perk the large dinosaur up though.
"Yeah I guess, still though good job. Told em right off like you should." Yuudai praised the kid, it was what he was going to do if he didn't take a baby to the eye but still it was pretty fine work.

Seemed like everyone was behind checking up on Marigold when she flew of. Clutching her D-Tector tightly in her left hand she ran after the others ending up the last one to get there since she was not exactly swift moving unless she was in one of her digimon forms.
Fortunately she didn't need to digivolve as it seemed Marigold had already handled a Floramon who had been bullying some kids. The Floramon was making itself scarce when she had caught up while panting as it seemed her poor stamina as her normal human self was once again a double edged sword for her. When she caught her breath she rose back to her full height and said "Good thing Marigold was able to handle the situation. Good thing the problem was only a rookie so I didn't have to digivolve as well." Taking a deep breath she then said "Sadly as a humble human I'm not that fit."

Zack was totally wrapped around marigold at that point, his arms squeezing against her until everyone around could hear him slightly forcing air out of her insectoid lungs, if she even had lungs. They laughed with one another for a moment until Marigold found it polite enough to tap him on the shoulder.
"D-dad...I can't breathe." She said before Zack let go all at once, letting her suck in a fat gasp of air and cough a little bit. She shivered, blinking a few times and looking up at Yuudai. "Well, my Dad always says that you can never stand a bully. Don't worry about missing it though, how do your books put it Dad? The day was saved?" She said, her eyes sparkling with mischievous pride at Zack, who ran his hand over the top of her head.
"Thanks to my lovely girl." He said, pushing himself to stand, looking over her new form and sharply looking away so that she couldn't see he face though that did mean that Shi, Yuudai and Stacy got to see the young father begin to tear up, wiping his fist over his eyes and trying to keep his voice steady. "God, do all kids grow up this fast or is it just me?" He said, swallowing hard a few times and clearing his throat before turning back to Marigold. "And you're exactly right, Marigold. Never stand a bully. Look them right in the eye and don't back down, that's the only way that bullies learn, even if you even up with a few bruises along the way." He said, tapping the faded impact scar on his forehead.

Shi looked over at Stacy who was catching her breath, Shi felt a small bit winded too but he supposed he was used to short sprints like that. "No worries, if it did escalate trust me, Yuudai and Yasuo can handle quite a bit." It didn't sound like Shi was bragging at all from the tone of his voice, more like he was just simply stating a fact. "Still good job I suppose." Shi said awkwardly rubbing the back of his head, he usually had a hard time with words of praise but it seemed that Zack had that covered for him.
Yuudai still had his large grin as Marigold mentioned that. "Heh, I'm just not used to watching so many kids! Usually the only ones I have to worry about are my brothers." With that though both Shi and Yasuo looked at the Greymon for a moment, both with words ready.
"Worrying about us? Think it's the other way around mr I'm gonna go hide in my sisters backpack." Shi said with his usual deadpan face, his words did seem a bit lighthearted though.
"Yeah or the time you got lost going in the store and we had to come get you." The RizeGreymon added with a smile, Yuudai let out a small laugh at this though, not worried at all about their words.
"Alright, Alright we worry about each other." But after that the trio just decided to let Zack and Marigold have their moment, didn't seem right to say anything in this situation, least they couldn't think of anything.

As Stacy gradually caught her breath she listened to all that was going on since she was more than used to others beating her from the athletic standpoint so it didn't bother her anymore at her age. After catching her breath she stood fully upright with a soft groan as she softly muttered "Man I feel old before my time."
As Zack and Marigold talked about dealing with bullies Stacy shook her head before she said "Sadly intimidation doesn't always work on all bullies and it seems even more apparent with digimon especially as they get stronger." She smiled down at Marigold before she then said "I've learned sometimes fighting isn't the best solution especially if other solutions like outsmarting them can also work."
She then chuckled softly at Shi's interaction with his partners and it made her think of her younger brothers. Sure they were grown men and taller than her to boot but she supposed she would always worry about them. "I have a pair of younger brothers so I know what it's like to be worried about someone. Seeing as those boys can be a handful I guess I worry even more sometimes. I guess them also being spirit wielders has made that worry increase at some level since the older one has an odd habit of trying to provoke the younger one. I would of thought they would of outgrown such behavior by now."

Zack nodded in complete agreement with Stacy, loosening the hug that Marigold was wrapped up in and letting her gasp for a fuller breath of air as he stood up, dusting off the legs of his pants as he went into a "teachable moment" before Marigold got too high on her on success and started solving too many problem with her fists, or claws in this case.
"That's right, you should only ever actually fight someone if you have no other option. Violence in a last resort, the final option. If you can solve a problem with your head or your heart you should always do that first, the last thing that anybody needs is more cycles of violence in the world." He said, reaching down and rubbing over her head, smiling and looking more than a little wistful in the moment. "That's not the kind of life I want for you." He explained, though Marigold seemed to be more attentive to the conversation going on around the pair.
"Huh...I guess I'm the only only child here." She said, with a tone that was trying desperately to keep light as the realization settled on top of her. Listening to the other people talk about siblings and families put some things into stark reality as Zack hunched down to cut that train of self defeating though off at the pass.
"Don't even start on that, young lady. You have all the family you'll ever need...besides..." He said, looking around and groaning, placing his hand to his face. "I would never put it past myself to end up adopting every stray Digimon that stumbles into my path, god help me." He said, the grin underneath his faux despair making it clear he was only poking fun at himself. "I really do want to thank all of you for your help, this...life that we're all living seems complicated enough that we should be able to depend on one another." He said, ripping some scrap pages out of a notebook in his backpack and scribbling his number on them. "If you ever need someone in your corner like you guys were in mine, any time of the day or night? Don't hesitate." He offered.
Zack and Marigold took the opportunity to begin walking back out the way they came, much more energized than the exhausted, confused father figure the wind underneath Zack's sails was picked up and ready to face anything this new part of himself had to offer. And Marigold was more than a little buoyed by his approval as they walked off beyond the horizon.
