Here at DFRP, we have a great many deal of characters. Some people more so than others. For example, me. I have a lot of characters. It’s a well-established fact. Can’t be denied. But sometimes I think, along with pretty much everyone else that knows how many characters that I have… Don’t I have too many characters? I should probably cut down on some. But how exactly could I decide that? After all, axing your characters is a veritable Sophie’s Choice. There is no good option, because characters are subjective. ...or are they? Because what if I told you that I devised an objective, foolproof system that would undeniably place a specific value to each of my characters? And by explaining this system to you, dear reader, who is probably just Spire, you too can see your character’s worth, or lack thereof? That’s right, for this MPC, we’re going to be looking at each of my characters, and evaluating them based off of my foolproof system so that I can determine their inherent value, and then I can finally scrap the useless ones and only keep the characters that have inherent value. But first, let’s talk about the scoring system! After all, you’re probably asking me right now, “Hey ari, how are you so intelligent and brave and so worthy of my praise at all times?” And to that I answer, “I’m just me. I literally can’t be not awesome.” But your second question would probably be, “But ari, how are you able to determine a character’s value with an objective point system when a person’s opinion of characters is completely subjective?” Thank you for your thoughtful question! But it’s also completely worthless. After all, we as people are flawed, and therefore our judgments are flawed, and cannot be trusted as a result. Clearly you’ve never met a person before. You’re so dumb sometimes! Why would you ask such a stupid question? Which is why I’ve devised this foolproof score to determine a character’s inherent worth! And by plugging my characters into this formula, I can determine which of my many characters are worth keeping around, and which ones I should scrap in order to make room for far better characters down the line! But before we determine a character’s value, we need to determine what qualities make for a good character! After all, a character that’s a fighter is probably worth more than a character that’s a farter. So, after completing seconds years of research I’ve managed to determine what qualities are appealing to people! So… here we go! First and foremost, a character’s design is the first thing of value for a character’s, well, value. Appearances are the first thing people tend to notice about you, after all! If your character’s aesthetically unappealing, then no one’s going to like them, right? So a character’s appearance needs to be determined… except it doesn’t. Because I’m using faceclaims, all of my characters are pretty much guaranteed to be cute little anime girls or bois, and since I’m piggybacking off of already existing franchises, I can safely ignore this criteria, since they’ve already been established to be pleasant enough for me to blatantly steal. So… let’s scratch the appearance off the list! But if you were making a character from scratch, you would normally use this stat as well. So our actual first criteria is… a character’s kindness. Basically, how pleasant are they willing to be around? If you bumped into them at a coffee shop, would you be able to have a nice conversation with them without thinking, “Oh my god, I hope my coffee’s ready soon so I can get on with my day!”. But no, a character with a high niceness score can talk about how they took their dog to the vet for a routine checkup, and you’re still willing to listen and be engaged in the conversation! Characters that are nice have inherent value because it means that there would be people willing to hang out with them in a thread. Secondly, we have to talk about a character’s proficiency. Sure, they might be nicest person in the entire universe, and maybe they might be wonderful to chat while waiting for your pumpkin spice latte, but a character with a high proficiency score is the type that you would actively call over to help you move. Is your character just all around good at stuff? It doesn’t really matter what your character’s good at, but if they’re just the best at what they do, then other players would be able to rely on your character in a thread, giving you more opportunities and really makes your character stand out from others! Next up, we have a character’s capabilities in combat. Digimon’s ultimately about little monsters turning into bigger monsters to beat up evil big monsters, after all, and a character with a penchant for kicking ass has its value. However, a character’s actual strength has nothing to do with a character’s combat value. After all, every tamer and general would score abysmally low compared to the solos and spirit users around, otherwise! For the purposes of this setting, it’s simply rating how well a character handles themselves in a combat situation. Are they able to keep their head together and actively strategize to make a fight go in your favor? Or do they flounder around in a panic and overall make things worse? After that, we have a character’s intellect. All the skills and kindness in the world doesn’t mean a thing if a character’s not able to allocate their awesome skills properly, and intelligent characters tend to be able to do just that. Maybe they’re not the most skilled in a combat situation, or they’re so smart that they’re jerks, but the fact of the matter is that smart characters know how to get shit done, and that’s incredibly valuable to a story. After all, just watching a show where everyone’s a dumbass and never knows what’s going in gets frustrating, right? And our fifth and final criteria for a character, one that’s either the most important or least depending on your point of view, is a character’s expressiveness, or how well your character can portray their emotions. That said, there isn’t a direct correlation between expressiveness and the value of this parameter. A character that doesn’t display a shred of emotion even in the most tense of situations can just come off as bland or off-putting, but a character who’s too intense with their emotions can be just as exhausting. So characters with a high expression have baby bear levels - enough to not be an emotionless robot, but not so much to constantly be in your face about it. And those are the six, but actually five criteria that’s useful to determine a character’s worth! In other words, a perfect character is on that’s kind to others, is capable in whatever skills they have, confident in a combat situation, smart enough to know what’s going on, and expresses their emotions in an appropriate amount. So with that out of the way, let’s get on to evaluating my characters, shall we? Actually, before we move on to the actual evaluation section, we need to talk about how we’re going to be doing this. For starters, we’re only going to be looking at the account’s “main characters”. So with the exception of the solo Digimon characters, we’ll be looking at the humans, and their partners. In the case of Xros Generals, we’ll be looking at their primary partners. So mercenaries will be outright ignored for the purposes of this exercise, as mercs can go in and out of a story, so their impact on other characters can be inconsistent at best. So now that we know who we’ll be looking at, we’ll assign a value between 1 and 5 for each parameter we’ll be judging them on, with the higher number representing a more positive value. And since different people value different traits, we’re just going to assume that each parameter has the same value. So afterwards we’ll add up the point total and find the average number between each human and partner. And then we’ll have our character’s objective value, and I’ll finally know which characters I should keep, and which characters I can ruthlessly put on the chopping block! So without further adieu… let’s get started!

Now, normally, I'd start with Nanami Hanabana, my favorite character by far! However, since I don't want to start off with the best right away, since everyone's scores after that would look incredibly underwhelming by comparison, we're going to start off with the second character I ever made, yet still near and dear to my role-playing heart... The Spirit User Honoka Nijimura! Now, not everyone knows all my characters, so it's probably best if I did a short little analysis to fluff up the word count... umm... I mean to give clarity to anyone reading this! Honoka is a high-school age spirit-user. She's smart, responsible, and she tends to take herself a little too seriously at times. Even so, she's kind-hearted and always tries to make the right course of action. She has some issues with self-confidence, and will sometimes get herself into trouble because of it. Between working at her family's flower shop, maintaining her studies, and her interest in dance and gymnastics, she tends to keep a lot of plates spinning at once. However, she wouldn't have it any other way! As a Spirit-User, she's armed with three fairies who call themselves Beauty of Nature - who apparently was some kind of Digimon Idol group back in the ancient times. How they became spirits or the cause of their death is a mystery at the moment, and it's something Honoka plans to slowly unravel as she travels across the Digital World in a journey to better herself, and to just "do the right thing". Kindness: Honoka's a girl that will put everyone else before herself in almost every situation. She has a deep-seated sense of self-loathing due to blaming herself for an early childhood trauma, and doesn't really value herself much as a person as a result. While this definitely means she's in need of some therapy, the fact that she puts the needs of others without even thinking about her own needs generally means she's a pretty kind person as a result. Self-sacrifice is ingrained into her at this points, and her messiah complex knows no bounds. And while she's not a complete doormat, she'll always have other's best interests in mind, whether it involves tough love or not! As such, Honoka earns a perfect score of 5 as a result. Score: 5/5 Proficiency: Putting it simply, Honoka's a talented girl. She's proficient in her studies, she's a talented gymnast, singer, dancer, almost anything Honoka puts her mind to, she can get pretty good at. Honoka just has a knack for learning things quickly, especially if they have something to do with something physical. Compound that with her hard-working attitude and it means she's blossomed quite a few talents already. Assuming she doesn't get herself killed or injured in her exploits in the Digital World, Honoka's talents will give her a bright future ahead of her, if she chooses to pursue that avenue. For Proficiency, Honoka gets a perfect score of 5 out of 5. Score: 5/5 Combat: Honoka's a quick-thinker, with the reflexes to match. She's more than capable in a combat situation, and she never hesitates when there's something to protect. She has no martial-arts training and has never really been in much of a fight outside of her Digital World exploits, and aside from rough-housing with her brothers she's never really had to risk her life before she got her Digivice. Honoka is perfectly adequate in combat, but she has a small flaw that she simply can't stand violence. Honoka is far more likely to fight to retreat than to land any decisive blow and take out the enemy, so her fighting instincts are dulled because of this. Honoka's Combat score is a 4 out of 5. Score: 4/5 Intellect: Honoka's a smart girl, able to keep good grades despite all her other activities. She's strict in her studies, and always makes sure to focus in school, no matter how tired she feels. That said... just because Honoka has good grades doesn't necessarily make her smart. She's clever enough to be sure, but she doesn't normally rely on her intelligence to get through most circumstances. Honoka's a highly physical person, and she would rather force her way through a situation if she can get away with it. Maybe one day she'll learn to be a bit more clever, but for right now, Honoka' Intellect scores a 3 out of 5. Score: 3/5 Expression: Finally, we have Honoka's Expression score. And unfortunately for Honoka, her repressed sense of self-loathing makes her suffer in this trait as well. Honoka knows to express the appropriate amount of emotions, but she would rather smile though all her discomfort and irritation if possible. She's a very guarded person because she doesn't want people to know how much of a mess she thinks she is, and bottles up her true feelings on matters when she can. As such, Honoka gets a low score of 2 out of 5. Score: 2/5 Final Score: 19/25 Summary: I've always been fond of Honoka, so I'm glad that she scored so high on this. I've always referred to her as a mary sue, so I was fairly surprised that she didn't make it to the upper tier. Even so, I'm proud of her placement on this list! It's fair to say that with a score this high, she's gonna be a keeper! Due to her scores, I'm placing Honoka in the A-Tier. If I want to make Honoka a more perfect character, I need her to apply her intelligence a little more from now on, maybe make her a bit more of an academic. And of course I need for her remove that silly self-loathing aspect of her personality so she can truly be expressive, and then all I need to do is remove her penchant for holding herself back in combat and make her a killing machine!

Next up we have Miki Tatsumi, a Tamer and arissey's 10th character! I've been debating about scrapping this one for a while now, but thanks to this foolproof system that I've developed, I'll know for sure if I should keep her or not! Miki and her partner Gomamon are would-be adventurers. Miki wants a life of adventures, but she's a little too impatient to wait until she's an adult to do so. Thankfully for her, Miki's discovery of a Digivice and her accompanying partner, Gomamon, have led her to a life of adventure to a brand new world! It might be a little dangerous, but Miki's not exactly the type that scares easy! Miki - Kindness: Miki is definitely a kind soul, who looks out for others. However, she tends to be fairly narrow-minded, and sometimes when she sees something she wants, her tunnel vision makes her forget about those around her. Miki is willing to brave all sorts of dangerous environments, but sometimes she forgets that other people aren't so willing to do that. But Miki will always look out for someone who's crazy or brave enough to come with her on her journeys. Score: 4/5 Proficiency: While she may not be a super genius in anything, Miki's a hard worker and knows that venturing forth while unprepared will only result in someone getting hurt. Miki works hard to prepare herself for her trials to come whenever she can, and as a result has developed a good variety of skills and handy tricks to help guide her through. She may not be a genius, but she's most definitely a jack of all trades. Score: 4/5 Combat: Miki likes to be prepared, and when things get dangerous, she knows that she needs to keep a cool head and deal with situations as they come. Unfortunately, she doesn't have that fighting instinct necessary to deal with combat, and would rather run away or negotiate with those wanting to eat her face off. Plus, she tends to give up easily when presented with a situation she can't think her way out of. Score: 3/5 Intellect: Academics may not be Miki's strong suit, but she has a very selective motivations when it comes to topics that interest her. As such, she devotes her time learning about subjects that she things will truly be interesting to her, while eschewing the rest. Miki's a strategist, through-and-through, always trying to find some sort of trick or silver bullet to get her out of any sticky situation. Miki's a fairly smart cookie as a result, though she tends to falter in other areas that she's not fully prepared for. Score: 4/5 Expression: Miki's a straight-forward, honest person that isn't scared to show her feelings. She's fairly peppy as a result, and she doesn't let the minor inconveniences bother her, but rather sees them as little challenges to be overcome. She's got a positive mindset about her, and while it can be infectious for others, every now and then her go-getter attitude can be a bit overbearing. Score: 4/5
Gomamon - Kindness: Frankly speaking, Gomamon is kindness incarnate. He can be a bit of a doormat, but the fact of the matter is that he finds other people so damned interesting he pretty much devotes all of his time to getting to know people and helping them with their problems. Gomamon doesn't seem to have a selfish bone in his digital frame, and no one's ever seen him get angry before, either. Score: 5/5 Proficiency: Gomamon's a bit of a sheltered fellow, and while he's able to survive on his own well enough, when it comes to actual skills, it's sad to say that the aquatic Digimon doesn't have very many. He's good in a social environment, but he's fairly useless if you don't need someone to help you swim. Score: 2/5 Combat: Gomamon is an incredibly gentle soul, and any combat instinct that seems native to so many Digimon doesn't seem to exist in the poor Gomamon. He abhors violence and avoids it whenever possible. In addition, he's more likely to apologize when attacking someone, and never focuses on killing his enemy. If there's a chance to end the combat without attacking, he'll take it, no matter how unlikely it is. Score: 1/5 Intellect: Gomamon spent most of his current life all alone in the ocean, save for his fishy friends. He's most definitely not academically gifted, and doesn't even know how to study. And while he's most definitely a curious sort, the fact that he knows almost nothing about even his home world makes him useless in any situation where brains are needed over brawn. Still, he's pretty good at social cues, shockingly enough. Score: 2/5 Expression: If there's one thing that Gomamon's good at, it's that he can express himself. In fact, he doesn't really know how to not express himself. Even so, he tends not to be too in-your-face about his emotions, and is more than willing to hold himself back when appropriate. Though he would much prefer to just put all of him out in the open regardless. Score: 5/5 Miki's Total Score: 19/25 Gomamon's Total Score: 15/25 Final Score: 17/25 Summary: For someone I thought about scrapping, I was surprised that Miki scored just as high as Honoka, and was worthy of the A-Tier. However, what I didn't realize was that her Digimon partner would drag her down so much to put her in the upper B-Tier. As such, the only solution I can think of is to kill Gomamon off and either replace him with a better partner, or turn Miki into a Spirit-User so she's not dragged down by anyone else. It's a little drastic, but according to my scoring system, it's necessary if I want Miki to be a better character. Still, someone in the B-tier probably won't get knocked off the chopping block, right?

Next up we have character #11, the quiet red-headed Spirit User herself... Misaki Fujimoto! Mute since birth, Misaki grew up trying to stay out of everyone's way, her actions as quiet as her voice. But late into her teenage years, and into her early adulthood, the young woman had a change of heart. Just because she doesn't have a voice doesn't mean she can't be heard, after all! As such, Misaki's done her best to live a loud and proud life, undeterred by little things like... alien worlds, and Digital Monsters. As a Spirit User, she controls the powers of void, an ability that dulls and nullifies other abilities... though she doesn't have full control of those abilities just yet. Kindness: Kindness has always been second nature to Misaki. It's not like she's completely maternal or anything, but she always seems to notice or look after the needs of others before she does so herself. She enjoys doing good things, and it's become something of a game for her. See how many good deeds she can perform without being noticed. So while she can be a bit of a prankster, she's ultimately a positive influence in the world. Probably. Score: 5/5 Proficiency: Misaki isn't a master of many skills, but she's certainly talented in her own regards. She's got quite a bit of focus to her, and she's able to intensely concentrate on the tasks ahead of her. As such, she's a good learner and can pick up the tricks she needs to survive fairly easily. Even so, as it stands, she's only a little about average. Still, there's a definite potential in there for the future. So why not Score: 3/5 Combat: Oddly enough, while Misaki isn't one to initiate violence, she's a fairly decisive person. She's not a blood-crazed murderer or anything, but she's more than willing to decisively (non-lethally) take out an enemy than... most of my characters, really. The only thing holding her back from being an absolute ass-kicker is the fact that she really isn't used to violence or anything of the sort. Score: 4/5 Intellect: Simply put, Misaki is a bit of a smart cookie. She's not a genius by any stretch of the imagination, but she generally emits a clear, calm mind and she thinks on her feet. She won't be solving complex equations anytime soon, but she's able to put her mind to solving more practical tests, and that's what matters the most for this parameter. And despite still being a teenager, she displays a wisdom beyond her years, as the saying goes. So Misaki's intellect scores fairly high, however, she's a woman of action more so than a woman of thought, which hampers her a little bit in this regard. Misaki tends to solve the simpler, more immediate problems more so than the underlying issues. Score: 4/5 Expression: And unfortunately, Misaki's expression suffers the worst from her disability. While she's expressive enough with her body language, she's ultimately forced to resort to written word and text-to-speech programs in order to verbally communicate with others, and that causes some disconnect with most people. She never even learned JSL, so she can't communicate that way, either. If given a voice, she would most definitely score much higher in this regard, but as it is, ableism or not, Misaki ultimately scores low in this area. Score: 2/5 Final Score: 18/25 Summary: I wasn't honestly expecting Misaki to score nearly as high on this system. And the fact that her journey has just begun, and there's still much more room for her to develop as a person, Misaki could score so high the only thing I need to do to improve her is to... just keep threading with her. Which means she's a definite keeper! Tier-wise, she's placed in the A-Tier, placing just below Honoka right now. But as stated earlier, Misaki has so much more potential to grow, she may even surpass my OG spirit-user, and she wouldn't even have to say a single word to do so!

And next on the chopping block we have Character #20, one of my many Xros Generals, and someone who hasn't even had their first thread, yet! Which means that this list is purely theoretical! Even so, as I've said many times over the discord, no one knows your characters better than you do, which means that there's no possible way you could refute whatever I'm gonna say about my characters! So without further ado, let's introduce the pair of Shintarou Tachibana and Algoricus the Supreme One! At the young, young age of 37, Shinta-san is by far my oldest character, a full decade and a half older than the next older character. In fact, he brings up my human character's average age from 15.47 to 16.67! That's over a whole year, shared between 17 other characters! However, as all boomers hope to believe, his age doesn't matter nearly as much as his character and who he is as a person! And a person Shinta-san definitely is! While he lives a fairly secluded life, Shinta-san is a kind, benevolent man who writes children's novels in his spare time. His partner, on the other hand, Algoricus, is a cruel, wanna-be Digi-dictator that plans to subjugate all life in the universe! So Shinta-san's story is one of kindness and patience. Will he one day win his partner over to the side of good? Or will he be broken by his partner's atrocious ways and one day betray everything that he believed in? That's a story for another day, however, so let's move onto the judging! Shinta-san - Kindness: After reading his little introduction, it's no surprise that Shinta-san scores perfectly on this category. He lives to make others happy at this point in his life, and he places absolutely no value for his own happiness. His only goal is to make the world a place where people can smile and be nice to others. And possibly pay for his sins that he committed when he was much, much younger. But while he may not be a perfect person, on this day, Shinta-san's kindness knows no bounds, and gains a perfect score in this category. Score: 5/5 Proficiency: Shinta-san may have years more experience than all of my characters, being almost as old as my 2nd and 3rd oldest characters combined, but other than a bit of writing talent, Shinta-san doesn't really have a lot of skills that would be handy for a character to have. He can cook, clean, and overall take care of a household, but that doesn't really come into play during the course of a grand adventure in any meaningful capacity. Still, there's likely a trick or two that Shinta might have up his sleeve that's not written on his profile, so look out! Score: 2/5 Combat: Shinta-san isn't a fighter, and refuses to hurt another living being. It's just never been worth it to the middle-aged man. If there's a way to settle things peacefully, he'll pursue those avenues no matter what, and he would never think to take another's life. What's more, he hasn't really taken care of his body, so other than his large size, he isn't really suited much for combat, regardless. Score: 1/5 Intellect: Shinta-san's an avid reader and a learned person, as they say, and while he's not the smartest person in the world he's able to use his noggin for things other than hitting other things. He's wise and is always down to argue morality and logic with someone whose views differ from his own, more pacifistic views. And as Algoricus's General, he's required to use his brain for helping to get out of sticky situations that are most likely caused by the Supreme One herself. Score: 3/5 Expression: And while Shinta-san's most definitely a kind individual who goes to great lengths to make things better for others, Shinta-san doesn't exactly emote it very well. In fact, while he'll smile and go along with whatever kind deed he has in store, his smile's always a solemn one. He harbors some deep-seated issues that he feels he doesn't deserve to work out, and his general demeanor can be a bit off-putting for particularly perceptive individuals. Score: 2/5
Algoricus - Kindness: Algoricus doesn't have a kind byte in her entire digital frame. Everything she does is to further her own ambitious goals, and she cares little for other's well-being. If it were possible to score a 0, she would definitely be placed there, but as it stands, she's capable of at least pretending to be nice, if it suits her purposes. Score: 1/5 Proficiency: Algoricus talks about how great she is, and sure enough, she can back up her talk to a degree. A technological genuis, Algoricus can control just about any technological device she sees, giving her a number of any proficiencies that she need not bother actually practicing. Score: 5/5 Combat: Yet despite her boasts, Algoricus is completely average when it comes to combat potential. She's smart enough, and certainly has the killing intent and the willingness to crush those that oppose her underneath her magnificent tentacles, but she would normally prefer to leave it to lesser servants. She personally hates getting her tendrils dirty, but will do so if it's required of her. Score: 3/5 Intellect: Yet despite all this, Algoricus is a genius, through-and-through. She's basically a super-computer, and when around the right technological devices, she have those machines make the calculations for her. This gives her an untold amount of information that she can access with ease. Score: 5/5 Expression: And while Shintarou may hide behind the mask of a solemn smile, Algoricus's emotions are plain to see for everyone. In fact, they're a little too open that it's outright annoying. She cares not when a lesser creature is bothered by her existence, as they should be groveling before her in the first place! As such, she scores pretty low on this one. Score: 1/5 Shinta-san's Total Score: 13/25 Algoricus's Total Score: 15/25 Final Score: 14/25 Summary: Which makes these two my lowest-scoring duo by far, being placed in the bottom of C-Tier. This is still relatively early on, however, but it's not looking so good for this duo. From what it looks like, Shinta-san suffers from his emotional hang-ups and his backstory, and really needs to get over it in order to become a better character. And Algoricus could stand to be a bit nicer and more tolerable, as her personality quirks bring little to the table. So in short, one should be a little more willing to push his personality out there, while the other should dial it back a ton. But as it stands right now, I won't have to worry about having to start their story, because it's entirely possible that they get axed!

For our fifth review, we have Character #8, our first Twin Tamer to be reviewed! She's an actress by day, and by night she's... yeah, she's still an actress. We're talking about the woman who's 22 year old from Los Angeles herself, Claire Thompson, or better known in Japan as... Reiko Suzuki! While she may be in her twenties now, you may know Reiko as that one high-school girl in the background of that high-school drama that comes on when you're never at home. Or maybe that waitress with the single line of dialogue? No? Still haven't heard of her? Well, Reiko's had a moderate amount of success back in the US, but she's not exactly a celebrity in Japan, but not everyone gets to be a superstar! Even so, not everyone gets to have their own pair of talking cats that bring her to a fantasy world, either, so I'd say that the aspiring actress still has some blessings to count! Reiko - Kindness: Honestly speaking, Reiko's kind of a callous individual. She prefers not to beat around the bush when dealing with other people, and even though she's honest about things, brutal honesty is still brutal nonetheless. And she tends to be so stuck in her own head that she an often forget about others, so she's pretty inconsiderate. But she can be nice when she tries to be! Score: 2/5 Proficiency: Other than performing, Reiko doesn't really have very many talents. She got into acting before she even realized what she wanted to do with her life, and hasn't really developed many skillsets as a result. Honestly, it's kind of pathetic. Score: 2/5 Combat: Reiko's no fighter, but she's not afraid to run from a scrap if one comes her way. She didn't exactly have the greatest childhood, but she knows that you need to defend yourself when someone steps up to you and tries to take what's yours. She's a bit of a dirty fighter, but if it's effective, Reiko will do it. She's nothing if not pragmatic. Score: 4/5 Intellect: Putting it bluntly, Reiko's an airhead. She's often lost in her own thoughts, and hasn't really needed to learn much other than what's required of a gig. She's normally good with memorizing her lines, but ever since coming to Japan, she's had trouble with that, thanks to having to remember a language her mother taught her when she was like, five, and had little reason to speak before coming to her mother's homeland. Still, she's got a perfectly adequate wit to her if she can avoid getting lost in her own thoughts for ten seconds. Score: 2/5 Expression: Normally, Reiko puts up a poker face and lets those around her know very little about her emotional state. But expression isn't about showing your true emotions, but rather how well you can portray emotions. And while Reiko may not be a famous actress, her skills are top-notch. If she wants to, she can make just about anyone thinks she's experiencing any emotion she wants. Score: 5/5
Pepper - Kindness: Pepper is kind, patient, and willing to put up with less amicable folk, such as her human partner or her sister. She has a great deal of understanding and is more than willing to associate with anyone and actively help anyone she sees fit. Even so, even Pepper's patience has limits, and when they're crossed, expect this kitty to lash out in a most-unkind manner! Score: 4/5 Proficiency: While she's the most civilized of Reiko's partners, Pepper's skillset lies with dealing with people more so than with tasks. She can go around and to cat things like hunting and the like, but ultimately it just feels unnatural to her. What's more, she seems to have the worst luck, and that seems to actively hamper any task that she tries to tackle. Score: 2/5 Combat: Pepper doesn't have much of a fighting instinct, but she's still a predatory Digimon by nature. She may not be able to find an opening very well, but she's more than willing to make the killing blow when one is presented to her. Score: 3/5 Intellect: Pepper makes it a point to memorize and learn as much as she can, as being prepared is key. What she lacks in proficiency she tries to make up for in sheer knowledge, and while it doesn't always work out, she's by far the most intelligent of the trio. Score: 4/5 Expression: And as the most socially amicable of the trio, of course Pepper is able to express herself in a manner that's pleasing to other people. Though when others test her patience, she can become just a bit overbearing. Score: 4/5
Snowflake- Kindness: In no uncertain terms, Snowflake's a bully. She enjoys picking on and tormenting the weak like every evil cat does, and isn't afraid to display the grisly bounties of her accomplishments to others. And she genuinely doesn't see anything wrong with this behavior, either. Score: 1/5 Proficiency: Snowflake is by far the most self-sufficient of the trio, and while she's by far the least sociable, Snowflake has a good deal of talent going into her. Mostly related to kitty-related skills, but they're mad, sick skills none the less, yo. Score: 4/5 Combat: Unlike her twin sister, Snowflake doesn't harbor any issues with combat and will actively seek it out when she's bored. Thrill of the hunt and whatnot. She's got the instincts and the killing intent down, but she tends to cower when presented with a stronger opponent. She enjoys being the predator, not the prey! Score: 4/5 Intellect: Snowflake may not seem to have much interest in all that smart people stuff, but she's got a good head on her shoulders, regardless. She's quite the trickster, and will often think of little schemes to make other people's lives just a bit worse... just because she thinks it's fun. Score: 3/5 Expression: Sadly, this is where Snowflake falls short. She's rather unconcerned with out people, so she generally doesn't care whether people are unnerved by her demeanor or not. Why should she do little things like emote when hiding your emotions and making people guess is so much fun? Even so, she can pretend to be a cute little kitty if she wants something from you, so expressing emotions isn't entirely beneath her, even if she outwardly thinks that you are. Score: 2/5 Reiko's Total Score: 15/25 Pepper's Total Score: 17/25 Snowflake's Total Score: 14/25 Final Score: 15.3/25 Summary: And it seems that Pepper is the most superior out of the trio, being dragged down by Reiko and Snowflake's middling scores. At 15.3, she's brought to the top of C-Tier, just above Shinta-san at the moment. It's looking pretty risky for them so far, but it's possible there are even worse characters out there! As far as improving them, it's pretty simple. I just need Reiko to undergo some super secret agent training or something to improve her intelligence and all around skillset, and then just make her be more nice. Simple as that. Pepper's pretty fine, but Snowflake could stand to be nicer and a bit more expressive.

It's the sixth character, and we haven't had a single one of them break into the S-Tier yet. But maybe this next one will be the first to do so! For this one, we're looking at Character #16, the Xros General and all-around smelly girl... Matsuri Usatora! At 12 years of age, it's surprising to see such a little girl living in the streets, but due to a colossal misunderstanding, Matsuri fled her hometown, stowed away to Shibuya, and has been wandering the streets ever since. In fact, Usatora's not even her actual family name, but rather one that she picked her self, because she's as cute as a bunny and as fierce as a tiger! Rawr! Matsuri - Kindness: Matsuri is a somewhat sweet girl that tries to be nice to most other people, but she has a bit of a selfish streak to her. It's not particularly malicious, but she's rather free-spirited and generally doesn't think too much on other people's feelings for anything she says or does. And sometimes, her offerings of kindness don't go over well, and she has a tendency to make things worse for people. Score: 3/5 Proficiency: Decently athletic, Matsuri's got a body full of energy and the willingness to learn new things. And having been on her own for a little bit, she's learned to pick up a couple tricks. However, she's still ultimately a small child that has a lot more to learn in her life. Score: 3/5 Combat: Matsuri has a bit of an aggressive drive in her when in a combat situation. She's decisive and quick to attack, and won't ever hesitate to shove her boot into the face of anyone she deems a creep or overall bad person. If it weren't for the fact that she doesn't tend to think things through before involving herself in a scrap, then she might have a higher score than she already does. Score: 4/5 Intellect: Not gonna mince words on this one. Matsuri is just plain dumb. Between her age and overall just lack of interest in academics, thinking isn't Matsuri's strength by any stretch of the imagination. She acts before she... does that other thing that she really doesn't do much of. Score: 1/5 Expression: As a rather simple-minded child, Matsuri doesn't really hold her emotions inside at all. Other than some deep-seated abandonment issues and a couple blows to her self-worth, she tends to express most of her emotions to everyone she meets. However, she can be a bit overbearing when there's something she wants to do. Score: 3/5
Agumon - Kindness: A quiet folk, Agumon believes in leaving every place just a little better than when he arrived. He doesn't really ask for much from others, but is more than willing to help others in need. However, he tends to be rather stern at times, and can be pretty unforgiving towards those who aren't willing to help themselves. Score: 4/5 Proficiency: Quite the mature Digimon, Agumon has developed a couple skills despite being a lizard that lacks opposable thumbs. But he doesn't that let that stop him from his daily activities. Also, he can make shapes with the smoke he lets out of his mouth, which is like, a super cool talent. Score: 3/5 Combat: However, Agumon isn't too much of a fighter. Considering himself to be a much more civilized sort, Agumon believes in talking first, and fighting if there are no other options. He's not so bad in a fight, but he's not exactly the most bloodthirsty Digimon out there. Score: 2/5 Intellect: Considering himself a more knowledgeable Digimon than most, Agumon prefers to keep himself apprised of recent events. In addition, he's not afraid to admit when he doesn't know something, and then follow up by ending his lack of knowledge on a particular subject. In short, Agumon's a smart cookie. With little brain-shaped chocolate chips. Score: 5/5 Expression: Unfortunately for Agumon, however, he tends to be pretty guarded most of the time, and generally doesn't let his emotions show. His emotional state is nobody else's business, and he can come off as a little... bland, as a result. Score: 2/5 Matsuri's Total Score: 14/25 Agumon's Total Score: 16/25 Final Score: 15/25 Summary: For Matsuri, are a lot of parallels to Nanami, by far my best and most favorite character, so I was surprised that Matsuri scored so low. Yet another character stuck in C-Tier, it makes me wonder what other characters are also this bad. Thankfully, Nanami's by far the more superior characters, so if I have to axe Matsuri, it won't be that great of a loss. I can always try harder with the next character, right?

And the next character is my second Xros General, ever, and Character Number #6. Armed with her army of dragons, or at the very least kind of dragons, is the kung-fu girl with some serious self-esteem issues... Sakura Shinryuji! Sakura - Growing up in her family's dojo, Sakura flourished in such an environment, and could easily be considered a genius student. And while she was an incredible talent in her childhood, her adolescence unfortunately betrayed her as she was left a short, scrawny, young lass while the other students bodies developed much more martial-arts-capable bodies. And after facing a trauma involving a frozen in terror Sakura and a local thug, her confidence in her own talents has been completely shot, and she meanders through the rest of her teenage years without a purpose. But now she has a new goal, of training up a group of young dragons into capable of fighters! After all, those that can't do teach, right? Kindness: Sakura isn't exactly an angel, but nor is she someone who would ignore someone in need. She undervalues her own contributions, however, and often thinks that she's incapable of helping others sometimes. Even so, she tries to do right by people when she can. Still, she's more than willing to take some time for herself, though. Score: 3/5 Proficiency: Sakura is handy at a number of skills, and tends to pick up on hobbies pretty quickly. If it involves delicate motions, chances are Sakura can handle it pretty easily. She's also got a good sense of balance, so she's pretty good at physical activities, too. Unfortunately, her abysmal height prevents her from excelling at most athletic accomplishments. Score: 4/5 Combat: Sakura's a martial-arts genuis, through-and-through. She feels she's too small and weak to properly consider herself a master, but she thinks on her feet and adapts to circumstances fairly easily. In actuality, she tends to thrive on making split-second decisions, as she tends to freeze up with indecisiveness when she's presented with a choice for any prolonged amount of time. Score: 5/5 Intellect: Sakura has an average intelligence, academically-speaking, but she's not a slouch, either. She gets good enough grades, and works hard enough to remember her studies. Even so, she her own lack of self-confidence often gets in the way of her plans, as she generally assumes anything she comes up with is going to fail. Score: 3/5 Expression: Simply put, Sakura is possibly one of the blandest members of her entire Xros army. She tends not to be too expressive, as showing emotion is something that she specifically trained not to do when she was younger. As such, it's hard to read her most of the time. Score: 2/5
Artie - One of Sakura's main partners and overall considered the "leader" of the gang, Artie is a Digimon that's a lover, not a fighter. He abhors strength in all of its forms and prefers to settle things with words. Or hugs. He's a decent guy that looks out for those around him, but he can be a bit pushy at times. Kindness: Kindness is one of Artie's greatest strengths. He's always taking care of others, for one reason or another, and looking out for someone is just second nature to him. It's only natural that he score extremely high on this one. Score: 5/5 Proficiency: For Artie, he's more of a smooth-talker than he is mon of action. As such, he tends to have his friends and comrades to perform most tasks that he himself can't accomplish, so he's never really developed much of a skillset. But his social skills are pretty damned decent. Score: 2/5 Combat: Artie is not someone who likes combat. He can throw a punch if he absolutely needs to, but Artie is, for the most part, a pacifist. He abhors the violent tendencies of most Digimon, and the thought of might makes right absolutely sickens him. As such, his combat value suffers as a result. Score: 2/5 Intellect: However, what he lacks in combat potential he makes up for with a sharp and quick wit. He's well aware that he's dependent on everyone around him, and he always tries to make the most of the talents of his comrades. It's made him something of a decent strategist as a result. Unfortunately, sometimes he can get a little overconfident in his plans, and they can fall apart if things aren't going well. Score: 4/5 Expression: Artie's a people-person through and through, and he's extremely expressive as a result. However, he tends to keep his emotions fairly reserved, preferring to please people with a smile and a compliment than what's actually in his heart. Score: 4/5
Lancel - Artie's best friend and one more fragment of the Digimon that Artie used to be, Lan is... not quite right. He's extremely forgetful, and tends to do his own thing. But he'll always listen to what Artie says! He's a bit on the weird side and no one knows what he's thinking, but he's overall a nice guy. Kindness: Lan is an extremely kind Digimon, mostly because Artie tells him that he should be kind. But Lan is somewhat cognizant of the fact that when you do nice things for people, they'll do nice things for you, and Lan just thinks that's just nice. Score: 4/5 Proficiency: While he may not seem like it, Lan is extremely handy to have around. He's got a number of talents he can perform, even if he doesn't really remember all of them himself. That said, sometimes he forgets what he's doing. Score: 3/5 Combat: Unlike Artie, Lan has a bit more of a fighting instinct and definitely has the killing intent when threatened, but he lacks the actual combat experience to actually utilize it. As such, he generally just charges forward and attacks recklessly. So when it comes to combat his heart is in the right place, but his attacks aren't. Score: 3/5 Intellect: Without mincing words... there isn't something quite right with Lan. He's extremely forgetful, and it's almost like there's just... something missing from his mind. He keeps a great deal of his old personality repressed, and his current personality, and mental stability, has suffered as a result. Score: 1/5 Expression: Lan is an extremely pleasant Digimon to be around... for about a few seconds. But any prolonged exposure to the Guilmon reveals that there's clearly something wrong with him. But despite all that, he has a purity to him that many would find endearing. Score: 3/5 Sakura's Total Score: 17/25 Artie's Total Score: 17/25 Lan's Total Score: 14/25 Final Score: 16/25 Summary: Sakura manages to squeeze her way into B-Rank, though she would have scored a bit higher if Lan hadn't dragged the pair down. A possible solution is to fix whatever issues is going on with Lan, give Artie a bit more bloodlust, and fix all of Sakura's self-confidence issues. Their issues are dragging them down as characters, so they should probably be alleviated as soon as possible, lest they find themselves on the chopping block one day.
