In turn, Shade felt relaxed in Holly's shadow. It didn't have quite the same innocence and naivete that it once had, but it was still undeniably warm and kind, a place where he could comfortably rest for days on end.
"It will make sense, once you hear the question that it answers."
The Shademon chuckled at that, Iris settling in as Holly moved to rest her head. What were they to do in the meantime? "You said it yourself. You need to sleep, recover your mind, and likely think over this offer. Until then, I will remain, to answer any question you have..."
"... Or even just to talk." There was a time, not even that long ago, where these two were next to inseparable - direct partners in crime, so to speak. And in away, this felt like a return to form, once more settling in the shadow of the feline. "Everything else aside, I have missed this. Your thoughts, so warm and open. And even now, you still wear your heart on your sleeve. Rare, to see someone so honest with themselves."

”I suppose it will make sense; I’ll find out when we get there.”
The meiphemon sighed a bit; adjusting and staring at her ‘shadow’ which held iris. She could still feel him around her and it was… quaint really. She felt comfortable with him linked to her like this; once there was a time they were so in groove that it was hard for them to remain apart for long. Truth be told she had always missed this closeness… even if she had others like it there was something about a whole nother digimon that was willing to link to her like this that put all the others to shame somehow. Jade and Lily both were simply extensions of her core in different ways.
”That is true. I’ve all but said yes to it; there’s a bit of me that is unsure and fairly hesitant to accept it. But… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious or interested. Sleeping and recovering come easy and natural to one that has… dabbled in sloth now.”
Hearing that he’d be up to answer her questions or even talk the meiphemon did have one question on her mind that she felt was pertinent.
”I’m probably very rusty. How are we going to approach that? More training? Something else?”
Hearing that he missed settling into her shadow the cat goat felt a tinge of red play across her cheeks and she’d let out a small laugh.
”Well I haven’t had a reason not to be; the people around me are good natured and good willing folks. I suppose I take after my ma more than I realize. And… yeah. Especially nowadays I expect. I’ve missed you being around too. It was nice having you around. Re-assuring even.”
The meiphemon mumbled a bit and found herself easing into the dreamworld a bit. The lines between this solid room and the bastion of good memories beyond it started to give way and Holly couldn’t help but chuckle.
”I’ll be sleeping a lot this weekend. A… lot lot. I’ve worn myself a bit thin truth be told. Studying like I did; pushing myself like I did. Don’t think you mind right? Feel free to look around… get comfortable again; see what you haven’t been able to till now.”
Holly smiled warmly to the shademon, reaching down and finding where they were about in her ‘shadow’. Giving them a re-assuring pat before adjusting herself to be more into her bed. She was about ready to surrender to the bliss of proper sleep.
”Mmm… can’t lie that this has me excited…”

She seemed receptive to the offer, at least. As for her 'rusty' state?
"There will be training, of course. But you should fall back into this rather naturally." And with the weekend to assist, perhaps it wouldn't even take that much. But for the moment, that was not the Shademon's concern. This mental space started to waver, as Holly desired a much less active sleep. The Meiphemon would start to settle in, and Iris would rest himself close. And as she'd doze off, her mind would once more return to those happy memories.
But a whole weekend of sleep gave Iris a lot to work with.
Holly would be brought back to the training. Target practice. Balance exercises. Silent movement. Agility and ambush training. It would all start to fall back in, and would start to reinforce itself in Holly's mind, 'tuning' her to the potential task at hand. And when the mind grew tired of that, she'd be drawn to relax in Iris' gentle shadow, warmly enveloping Holly's frame.
The closer Holly would allow it, the closer Iris would feel. Perhaps the shade would have still felt like a separate entity, or perhaps Iris would have felt like Holly's own shadow. That evening would come soon enough, though, and as she'd knock at the door, a single question would ring out.
"What stands defiant?"
... 'A Dandelion'. The door would open, and Holly would step in to see... well, a place that had probably seen better days. A cold metal floor, exposed walls with soundproofing, exercise equipment, and a few filing cabinets held in the back. Everything that had survived was here, but the guild was definitely no longer in its glory days. Standing right at the entrance was perhaps the only recognizable figure, welcoming Holly right on in, closing the door behind her.
"It has been too long, Holly. Iris?"
"She's still to make her decision. But there's no harm in her being here."

”I mean a lot of it did utilize natural skills I already had…”
Holly sighed again and closed her eyes; she slowly felt the sleep start to take hold after her answer. The mental space eventually dissolve completely and the shademon would find himself amidst her dreams as much as she was if he wished it. Those happy memories made her ease into the shademon; lowering her guard further and further.
The training, the target practice, balance exercises and silent movement. Everything that the assassins had taught her and some things that they didn’t. The slow tuning was welcomed with a warm fuzzy feeling. Her mental fortitude was pretty impressive for someone of her nature now but eventually it did tire, even when guided it would deviate eventually. But the patience and ‘focus’ remained even in her sleep.
Holly wasn’t the sort to leave her friends out on the prairie; she had once been so used to iris’ presence that she considered him inseparable and with that warmth back she hardly felt the need to push him away. Drawing him closer in her shadow and enjoying the sensation of that data signature so close to hers. Once that evening came along she felt like it was right and proper to have him in there. Knocking at the door and flicking her ears; hearing the question it wasn’t hard to give the answer.
Stepping inside her eyes immediately was able to pick out the locale; it had indeed seen better days. A few filing cabinets; some soundproofing, some exercise equipment. It was all and all in one place and she felt like she was partially to blame. The recognizable figure in front of her was… Boss of all people. She’d turn her head and she felt lily’s curiosity at the back of her head.
”It has been a while Boss. A few years at this point.”
The meiphemon quietly inspected the figure in front of her; there was a part of her that yearned to know more about what these two had been up to in the meantime. It had been years since she felt the touch of Iris’ shadow on her own and even longer since she saw boss.
”I think my choice to come here at all all but says what my choice is.”
The meiphemon placed a hand on her hip and she’d stare at the ravemon. A small smile spread across her lips and she’d lean to curiously look over the ravemon again; there was a small twinkle in her eye and she couldn’t help but chuckle.
”But if you want a solid answer… Yes. I’ll work with you two again. But given how the last instance went… Do you need some form of reassurance I won’t just vanish on you again?”
There was an underlying hint of another question she wanted to ask but she wasn't sure how to exactly push that question. The meiphemon's smile didn't falter and in fact she looked very happy to be here. The love she had felt for the two here had been brought back to the surface from a lot of digging and the warmth that iris felt from her was certainly vast as the oceans themselves.

"Heh. Fair enough."
Some things didn't change, like Holly's straightforward way of thinking. Why would she be here at all if she wasn't likely to accept their offer? The Ravemon saw that smile, returning a grin of his own. The last comment that the Meiphemon made had the avian tilting his head, however.
"Interesting. You feel so willing to make yourself vulnerable to us? Considering the terms on which we dissolved, no-one would have blamed you from building your distance. Iris?"
"Such reassurance should not be necessary. As you can see, we are operating on 'fumes' as is. Besides." Iris peeled himself up from the shadow, slipping once around the Meiphemon. "Association with us is assurance enough. Its difficult to break names with such notoriety."
"And there you have it." The Ravemon would step forward, and slip an arm around Holly's shoulder. "I will say, our methods of communication are quite limited at the moment. Electronic messaging can be traced, as can magical - everything we're doing right now is manual or analogue. We'll be meeting here, or in places like this, to go over potential jobs and your training."
"I suppose the trickiest question..." The Ravemon stepped away, mulling it over. "Do you think you can put up both fronts? A doctor, and a killer?"

”I wouldn’t call it exactly making myself vulnerable boss… more like a little test to see what you’d say.”
Holly’s sly grin spread along her face and she’d gently pat the shadow that was slipping up around her. She wasn’t stupid she knew the risks here and with her growing past what they used to deal with well… The meiphemon gave a small shrug.
”Well there’s no doubt in my mind that if luminas discovers me again in this situation that they will have their eyes firmly planted on me. I was only able to play the ‘I don’t know anything” card due to the relative youth I carried at that time. But you’re certainly correct.”
Hearing that they wanted to go manual or analog to avoid being tracked still made sense to her. The meiphemon rubbed at her chin and considered the varied aspects she could handle. She’d tut a little bit and twirl her hair in a set of fingers.
”I could make it easy to deliver things you know. What with Jade or my Clones. Even this form can serve well enough.”
The meiphemon smiled warmly at boss as pulled away; the idea of being able to handle both jobs? Well the meiphemon considered for a few moments and then nodded her head after a bit.
”I can. It won’t be hard; at least until I have to pick between one or the other but… If I’m operating on someone or working with someone it’d be difficult for me to just drop what I’m doing to come and do this. Vice versa. A bit of a balancing act… Then again given what role I decided to take up from my ma that would always be brought into question.”
She’d stare at boss and fold her arms slowly; they had to know about K and what she had done what she was still doing even after her death and what her second iteration decided on. With a sigh and eventual tut she’d move her hands to lily who had for the moment stayed quiet.
”A knight. A doctor and An Assassin. One job gives me the ability to go where I please to defend. Another gives me plausible cause to rescue… and one lets me make the ultimate decision regarding someone else. They all go hand and hand boss.”
The Meiphemon stepped forward and gently tapped the Ravemon’s ‘nose’ and gave him a somewhat wolfish grin.
”The better question you should be asking yourself is if you can put up with what I’ve become.”

This wasn't a relationship built on deception or assurance. Holly had proven that she was capable before, and more importantly, had proven herself a trusted ally. They were kin in the darkness, and Holly understood it quite well.
And it seemed that the Meiphemon had some tricks of her own! "Excellent. Though what's most important is being inconsistent and discreet with such messaging. There are only so many times we can risk doing the same thing."
Past that, Holly showed no hesitation. In fact, she saw that her jobs were related - at least in her perspective - and so she'd turn the questions back on them. Feeling the tap on his chin, the Ravemon returned a laugh, and stepped to Holly's side, swinging an arm around her shoulder.
"Anyone who tosses their hat into this ring has their quirks, Holly. From what I've heard from Iris, there's nothing that we have to be concerned about."
"That said, what you know about Boss was limited back then, during your short 'entry' time with us. I'd say that Boss knows more about you than you know about him."
The Ravemon sighed, returning a nod at that. "No different for now, I'm afraid. From 'then' through 'now', your family's been put on the spotlight more than once... while I've acted in the background, best I could. Unfortunately, I can't say that anything I've done would have helped you out back then."
Not with the state their organization was in, anyway.
