You're still not sure if this is real or not. A whole new world you never knew existed, filled with creatures unbound by the rules of life you had once thought unwavering. To top it all off you now had one of those strange creatures as a lifelong partner, now. The ball of fur in your lap snuggled against your stomach for warmth as you hugged it closer. Terminus City was a big place, and night had already fallen accompanied by the soft white noise of a light rain. Sitting under the shelter of a bus stop you figured you'd just wait for the rain to stop before continuing to look for the subway again.
A soft growl sounded off from the Paomon in your lap. It wasn't a sound of anger, but the rumble of a hungry stomach. Putting a hand on the digimon's head you tried to comfort your new friend with gentle pets. Staring out at the sky you could make out the low hanging clouds above illuminated by the never sleeping metropolis. If the rain didn't stop soon you wondered if it would be alright to take your chances.
Another sound pulled your gaze down the street as it steadily got louder. It was the rumbling of plastic wheels on concrete. A girl was skateboarding on the sidewalk heedless of the rain. She couldn't have been oblivious to it; her black leather jacket was zipped up over her chest. Her black skirt was an odd choice, but maybe she had been caught outside like you had been.
In any case she still seemed to be enjoying herself despite the weather. Her head nodded casually every other second to whatever beat was playing in her ear buds. Her hands played an air guitar as she mouthed lyrics with a satisfied smile. Pale hair was tied up in a ponytail off center to the left of her head.
When her rust brown eyes met yours you politely looked away to something across the street that had suddenly required your attention.
As sound of the girl's skateboard came closer you looked down to your digimon partner in your lap. Just a few more seconds and the girl would go riding by, and you could continue your silent vigil. You kept your gaze downwards as the skateboard entered the corner of your vision. It rolled towards the opposite side before suddenly and noisily skidding to a stop, almost having passed the bus stop entirely.
With brows curiously raised you looked up to the girl, but she was looking at your friend instead with her brows slightly furrowed with worry.
The light rain had made some of her bangs stick to her face, partially covering her right eye as she kept her body turned slightly towards you both. A hand reached up to sweep her bangs to the side as she then looked to you now. She seemed to be weighing the situation in her thoughts before finally speaking.
"Are you two okay?" she asked with a concerned tone. "It's a bit wet out for a little fella like that."
She was right, and you both knew it. What was there to say?
"Uhm, yeah. Yeah, it is." You sighed as you looked down at Paomon for a moment before returning your gaze to the girl. "We were looking for the subway before we got caught in the rain. You wouldn't happen to know where it is, would you? I'm still finding my way around."
"Oh," said the girl in a slightly surprised tone, as if she didn't need anymore context.
You were beginning to get the feeling that humans falling out of the sky was a somewhat common occurrence given how many times you had heard that same tone today.
"I'm headed there myself." Her voice cut off as she glanced down again to your partner huddled against your stomach. There was a pause before she continued. "I'll take you guys there."
"Really? We'd appreciate that, but like you said," you answered quietly as you pointedly looked up at the rain clouds. You looked back to the girl. "I don't think I should bring Paomon out in a cold rain, so if you could just tell us where to go instead?"
The initial answer you received was a confident smirk of a smile as the girl picked up her skateboard. She moved under the cover of the bus stop and sat her backpack down on the bench, talking as she strapped her skateboard to it.
"Yeah, that would be a problem," she agreed softly as she rummaged through her backpack. The girl pulled out a collapsing umbrella before handing it to you. "but I don't intend to get you or your little friend sick. I'm gonna let you borrow these, and you can give them back to me when we get to the Trailmon Station."
"Thanks," you said uncertainly as you took the umbrella. The girl also unzipped her jacket before handing it to you, but you tried to be polite. "Look the umbrella is plenty-"
"It's for Paomon," the girl interrupted as she set the leather jacket down beside you on the bench. She then put her backpack back on and nodded her head towards the street. "You coming?"
"You're going to get soaked walking like that," you tried to protest. Your voice trailed off though when you saw her take out a strange device from a pouch on her belt.
"Not if you're holding the umbrella right! Get ready, or we'll be here all night," she teased as fractal code appeared around one of her hands.
The girl scanned it with her digivice before spirit digivolving into a small fairy-looking ... fairy. You were starting to get tired of being surprised, but the Tinkermon just giggled at your expression and flew closer to pat your shoulder reassuringly.
"Look, don't sweat it, alright? I'll try to answer any questions you have. My name's Nin, by the way. If you want to pay me back, I'll take a hot tea at the station, please and thank you!" The fairy grinned and floated in the air, swinging her spear under her legs and pretending to sit on it.
