Wrylia, it was safe to say, wasn't having a good day today.
This little 'heist' of hers - something that she had been planning for some time now - was supposed to have been perfect. It was supposed to have been a clean getaway - she knew the routines of the other digimon in her clan (or to be more accurate, former clan,) quite well, after all. She had known that the guards who typically hung around the treasury tended to be lazy layabouts, especially in the few hours before proper sunrise, sometimes dozing off or otherwise goofing around... She couldn't remember the last time her clan had to deal with an infiltrator or assault from rival digimon.
The clan had grown relatively lax, as a result.
Thus, Wrylia had thought herself pretty clever at first, and had thought herself able to make a slick getaway, with her ill gotten goods in tow with no one being any the wiser. Certainly, it had been stuff that she had grabbed from the hoard completely at random, if she was going to be honest - she didn’t even know if she had grabbed anything of particular value yet, given that it had been quick in, quick out, stuff up an infinistore and go! But she didn’t care about getting rich, so much as she had cared about sending a message.
But despite all of her preparations, it seemed that someone had to have noticed her. Why else would someone have been able to track her down and find her, shortly after leaving the bandit camp's walls, after all? Why else would she have ended up on the receiving end of an angry Champion's claws and fists, and forced into a dangerous situation?
... Yeah, it was definitely safe to say that Wrylia's morning was going quite poorly.
Being tracked down had been a grueling experience, to say the least - even for as much as the Aegiomon relished combat, she knew that she would die if she remained as she was, fighting a digimon much larger than herself. So it was with plenty of begrudging, that she would attempt to escape the vengeful guard with her life, instead of fighting head-on; valuing her life over her dignity, at least for the time being. She wasn't going to die here today - not after having made the decision for herself to be independent.
However, she did not escape unscathed; she wasn't a pretty sight right now - claw wounds, a sprained arm, plenty of bruises and scrapes... It was a miracle that she managed to slip away with her life, she was pretty sure - and even now, her core was beating hard in her chest as she staggered her way between the trees, limbs feeling like noodles. She felt faint and lightheaded, even past the pain her body was in as the adrenaline leaked out of her, her mind growing fuzzy...
... Jeez.... now that Wrylia took the time and thought about it, she... Was bleeding an awful lot, wasn't she... Certainly, her wounds were bleeding more sluggishly now as they properly clotted and the like, but that was only after the passage of time - and indeed, a good amount of time had passed since she had escaped from that Champion's ire. She needed to find someplace safe to rest, she vaguely registered, as she pressed her hand to a tree in an attempt to steady herself... She needed to treat her wounds before she bled out, she vaguely registered, even as her vision began to flicker and swim...
She needed to...
... ...
... Meanwhile though, if Wrylia was having a bad morning, then Kano was having a confusing one.
He wasn't... too sure where he was, to be honest. Last he could remember was a couple of big guys jumping him on the streets near the canal, and picking a fight with him; and certainly, even for his small size, Kano knew how to handle himself in the field - but having been caught flat footed like this, there was only so much he could do to try and turn the situation around. One misplaced step, one good push, and Kano was sent tumbling down into the Shibuya Canal - and as he plunged in he continued to fall...
... and fall...
... And fall...?
Something wasn't right here. The canal wasn't this deep - and surely he should've hit water by now, right? And yet, he continued to descend amidst the confusing and hazy darkness... Until it hit him.
"Gh-oof!"
Or, perhaps more appropriately, until he hit the ground. His breath was knocked out of him on impact, and he would tumble a little across the grass, before coming to a stop at the foot of a large tree.
"Ow.... fuck..."
Slowly but surely, Kano would act half on auto-pilot in pushing himself up. He had already been aching from the blows the two larger delinquents had been able to land on him, but slamming into the ground like this hurt as well. He'd press his back to the tree behind him to keep himself steady as he rose, only to realize... Why were there this many trees, or this much grass, in the middle of what was supposed to be a city?
Where was he..? How did he get here..?
Kano blinked blearily, disoriented, as he found his footing - stepping away from the tree, so that he could glance around as awareness seeped back in. Nothing here read as familiar to him - he was pretty sure that he didn't even recognize the types of trees that were growing tall, in this dense woodland. Everything here was dimmed by the thick canopy - the sky above only visible in small gaps in the boughs of the trees. Wherever he was, he must've been quite deep in this strange forest - and--
Briefly, the sound of something thumping or thudding onto the ground - not too far from where he stood now - would catch his attention, interrupting his thoughts. What... was that...?
He was left with many questions, to say the least - but this, perhaps, would be one that he'd be able to figure out the answer to? Slowly and carefully, he'd creep towards the direction he had heard the sound from - staying close to the trees, in hopes of using them as cover. He'd move along, eyes casting around, until he caught a glimpse of something - it almost looked to be a person, having fallen over!

"Shit," Kano breathed to himself as he stepped forward, towards the crumpled-over form; though as he got closer, he'd realize that this... Wasn't a normal human being. Horns, wings, a tail - what was this person...? And not to mention, what happened that they'd get this beat up - it was almost like they were attacked by a feral animal! Chewing the inside of his cheek briefly, Kano debated between whether to move them or not; but he didn't hear anything in the immediate area, and he didn't even know where a safer location would be.
So instead, he'd simply kneel down next to the unconscious individual - setting his bag to the side, so that he could pull out a first aid kit. He was thankful that he had been hauling some of his belongings with him, when he had been out and about... Doing the general checks, he could tell that they were breathing just fine, though their pulse was on the slow side. That was a little concerning - he ought to stop the bleeding.
Gauze, bandages, and the like would come out quickly as Kano assessed the person's wounds - once he was sure they were as clean as he could get them, he'd stitch up the deeper wounds, wrap gauze to staunch any bleeding (though this didn't look like normal blood, what was this...??) and bandages to hold everything in place, and keep the pressure on the wound. Plenty of neosporin, too, would (hopefully) aid in making sure none of it would get infected, either.
As Kano worked though, and as he arranged the individual into a recovery position, he'd hear a soft groan. He'd glance up towards their face to see their eyes slowly flicker open, and he'd sit back - speaking gently and reassuringly. "Hey - it's alright, I'm here to help." He'd begin, giving the individual some space to breathe and figure out their bearings. "How are you feeling?"
Wrylia, understandably, was confused as she gradually awoke - her brain was full of fog, and her body aching all over. Initially, she wouldn't respond to the words being spoken to her - instead trying to slowly push herself up into a seated position, and assess her own body. There were... bandages, wrapped around her wounds? She had been cleaned up a little, even - what had happened while she was conked out..?
... Well, it seemed that this strange person had been to thank for that - Wrylia didn't recognize any digimon like this, so she had to guess that this was... Those humans she's always heard about? Briefly, should bare her fangs a little in a snarl - a sense of bruised dignity welling up in having to have been helped by a weaker creature as she lashed out with one of her fists! "I didn't need your help, squishy human!" She'd snarl as she swung.
Kano, in response, was able to quickly stumble back to dodge; alarm flashing in his eyes. "Hey, what the hell?!" He'd bark, taking up a readied stance as he stared the Aegiomon down. "So much for even a thanks, I guess?!"
"I could've taken care of myself just fine." Wrylia claimed, as she slowly staggered to her feet proper. It was hard to say whether this was true, given a digimon's natural resilience and quick recovery, as well as the sorry state she had been found in.
"You were unconscious and looked like you were gonna bleed to half-death, dumbass! You couldn't have helped anyone in a state like that, let alone yourself!" Kano would retort, meanwhile.
"Let's see who needs the help, when I'm done here." The Aegiomon snarled in response, her tail lashing as she hunkered down, preparing to charge at Kano-...
.. At least, that was until the quarreling duo were interrupted from their potential fight by a large form leaping in between the two of them; A Gazimon-X, standing large and strong, long fangs displayed proudly. The beast digimon would growl lowly as they set their eyes upon Wrylia, calling "Don't think you can hide from me forever, you little thief!" as they raised a claw on high, prepared to strike Wrylia down!
The Aegiomon would be just able to roll out of the way - and Kano watched in shock as the claws left a sizable gash in the tree and ground beneath it. Another strange creature..?! And this one was clearly hostile, too...!
Initially, Kano was more-or-less ready to bail from the situation; he had a feeling that trying to fight a lovechild between a bear and a walrus would end quite poorly, and this thing didn't appear interested in fighting him, anyways. However...
... There was also the question of the strange person he had patched up, too. He could see that they were in no state to fight - that they could barely stand upright on their own, let alone properly retaliate. He wasn't sure what kind of thief the strange dragonperson was, and he certainly was still irritated at his patient’s poor manners; but leaving them here was sure to mean their death, if Mr. Steroids Bearus over here wasn't satisfied in just leaving them beaten to a pulp like they were now. And so, Kano would make a split second decision - cupping his hands around his mouth and calling "... HEY, UGLY! HOW ‘BOUT WE TUSSLE INSTEAD, HUH?!"
The taunt seemed to do the trick, the massive beast pausing, before glancing in Kano's direction. Initially, they would peer the much smaller human up and down with an appraising eye, before scoffing. "What do you think you can do against me then, huh?" The Gazimon-X questioned, clearly unimpressed by what this pipsqueak might have to offer.
"I dunno, swinging a few punches might do the trick." Kano sassed in response - putting on as confident of a smirk as he could, and going into a readied stanced. "What, afraid of a few bruises? Gotta pick on people smaller than you, to feel big and strong?"
Wrylia’s eyes seemed to light up a little, as she caught on relatively quickly to what Kano was thinking. Grinning a little - even as she had to lean against a tree to hold steady - they’d taunt the Gazimon-X as well, calling “Are you gonna face that challenge, buddy? Or does the pipsqueak over there got you scared?”
The Gazimon-X would snarl at this challenge - their eyes briefly drifting towards Wrylia - before gazing down at Kano once more. If this squishy human wanted a fight, then they could give him a fight in no time at all! “You’ll have a lot more than bruises to worry about, when I’m done with you!” They would soon shout - charging at Kano, with a claw outstretched and ready to strike…!
However, Kano was small, quick on his feet, and plenty readied. He’d dive at a diagonal - around Gazimon-X’s side - to dodge the downward strike of the beast digimon’s claw, and allow him to attempt to leap up onto their back! Even as the Gazimon-X began to thrash and shout in confusion - “What the hell are you doing, whelp?!” - Kano would hold tight as he attempted to get up towards the beast’s shoulders, even as he hissed as one of the claws blindly reaching back at him briefly caught his leg. However, once he was within proper reach, Kano would begin to actually strike - attempting to hook an arm around the Gazimon-X’s throat, and reaching back with his opposite fist, to strike them upside the head!
Sadly though, this barely got a flinch out of the Champion stage digimon; and they’d snarl in clear irritation, as they decided to - instead of trying to reach for Kano - begin repeatedly slamming their back into a nearby tree, intending to smash Kano against it..!
The young man, as one might expect, would end up having his breath knocked out of him as he was struck - “Ghkh!!” - and ending up having to hold on for dear life, with the arm that he had tried to lock around Gazimon-X’s throat. Not about to give up easily though, and hoping to try and get a lucky strike in, Kano would continue to beat upon the side of the beast digimon’s head with his fist - one hit, two hits, three hits…!

It was only upon the fourth or fifth hit, (as well, as the second or third time that Gazimon-X had slammed into the tree,) that Kano would realize that something had changed - an aura of sorts, bright and fiery-gold and angry, blazing and crackling along a portion of his fist and forearm. Bits of data would burst at the point of contact as the aura-coated fist slammed into Gazimon-X’s temple, and actually elicited a response; the beast digimon letting out a startled snarl and stumbling sideways. “What in the fuck was that?!” They’d snarl - less hurt, and more just caught completely off guard by this sudden change - “I’ve had enough of this bull!”
A claw would curl around the arm that had been locked around the Gazimon-X’s throat - the only warning that Kano would have, before he’d suddenly find himself sent flying; thrown from the beast digimon’s back, and into a nearby tree! The young man would be more or less completely stunned on impact - groaning as he tumbled down to the grass, dazed and disoriented. “Ow…” He’d mutter, as he slowly tried to rise back up on unsteady legs
But he would be unable to get up quick enough - Gazimon-X wasting no time in approaching and looming over him. “I’ll make you regret picking a fight with me, weakling.” They’d snarl, claws raised and at the ready…
… Only to be interrupted, when a certain Aegiomon would suddenly charge in - leaping, to slam her head into their own! This suckerpunch (or would it be more suckerheadbutt?) of a strike was enough to have the Gazimon-X jolt back a little, tail lashing as they growled in agitation. “Can’t fight me solo, can you?! Got to rely on the runt of all folks to get you out of trouble, huh?!” They’d taunt - but Wrylia barked a somewhat bitter laugh in response.
“What’s wrong?” She’d sass, grinning goadingly - though being called a ‘runt’ certainly had the grin twist halfway into a snarl of her own. “Can’t take on what’s more or less a couple of Rookies? Maybe you should save the complaints for when you’re fighting someone your own size!”
As she spoke though, she’d be helping Kano up onto his feet with her good arm - the young man being more than willing to take hold of her hand as she hoisted him up onto his feet. “You’re gonna get yourself killed, continuing to fight like that,” He’d point out, even as his eyes glanced from the Aegiomon, to the Gazimon-X that loomed before them both. That wasn’t even to mention her potentially opening up her stitches..!
Wrylia, however, didn’t appear to give too much of a damn, an eager grin stretched across her face as her gaze slid towards Kano. “Just consider this being me returning the favor then, pipsqueak!” She’d confidently retort - although the human certainly had a point, given that even now, staying upright without staggering even a little bit was quite difficult.
With the Gazimon-X charging back into the fray though, and with them swinging out with their claws once more, Wrylia and Kano both would dodge to either side of them - allowing them to mutually flank the beast digimon. They had to figure out a plan, if they were going to have any chance of surviving against this Champion, given that neither Kano nor Wrylia could do much against them…
… But, perhaps, they’d simply need a boost, instead?
It was only now that Kano would notice something in his hand - the same one that he had taken up Wrylia’s hand with. A… Device, of sorts? A strange one, that he’d never seen before, in regal reds and golds, with warm-brown accents. Kano didn’t quite know what to make of it, let alone what to do with it. Not that he had much time to give it a proper look-over, before Gazimon-X would charge at him once more; forcing Kano to attempt to dodge around the beast once more, and earning a gash on his side for his efforts! “Ow, fuck..!!”
He’d end up tumbling to the ground, a hand clutched to where he had been slashed, as he already felt wet warmth welling up from under his now-torn shirt and jacket. Damnit, this wasn’t good - even with Wrylia’s support (the Aegiomon in question charging in with a fist crackling with electricity, to get the beast digimon’s attention off of Kano,) they’d end up shredded to pieces!
Teeth gritted, his free fist clenched into a fist, Kano could see now as the aura around his limb blazed to life once more - wild and sparking. In fact, it was interesting - for when this strange aura lit up, the device in his opposite hand would light up as well in response! The screen flickered to life - the binary font on it reading ‘CHARGE REQUIRED’ - and a strange port of sorts, on the top, would begin to pulse in the same color as the aura; a bright fiery gold… Kano wasn’t sure what this device would do, if he gave it the charge that it was asking for - yet there wasn’t much else that he could think of, for a plan to get the both of them out of here alive. “Well, here goes nothing, then..!” He’d state as he brought his aura-wrapped hand up, and slammed it down upon the top of the device!
The results would be almost instant; the aura around Kano’s hand flowing into the device, as the screen lit up in a bright gold. He initially had no clue what this was supposed to do, but… Then he glanced out towards Wrylia.
The Aegiomon in question had just gotten a rough smack of a claw; and she had instantly been floored as a result. She was hurting, badly, and lacked much of the energy required to continue fighting - and yet, her stubborn nature demanded that she get up and continue to fight. If she gave up now, then she would surely be dead; and she was much too prideful to give up in the first place, at that. Thus, she’d - slowly, but surely - begin to rise to her feet, her face twisted in a snarl. “I’m… I’m n-not done yet…” She’d growl, past heavy breathing, as she saw the Gazimon-X draw back for what was surely going to be a finishing blow--
But the beast digimon would stop and hesitate, upon noticing that Wrylia was beginning to glow.
A fiery-gold digisoul blazed up around the draconic Aegiomon, crackling with an energy that she could feel welling up inside of her, building higher and higher…. What was this feeling..?! It was exhilarating, it was energizing - and as the glow began to make it difficult to properly perceive her, it’d quickly become clear that she was changing. Larger, taller, she’d grow in size until she could easily match the Gazimon-X’s size; taking on a wide-set and muscular shape. Her wings became large and mighty, her tail long and whipping - and was that a spiked club, she now had clutched in her hands?
Even before she had finished digivolving though, Wrylia was charging with a mighty roar - digisoul wreathing her body as it gradually faded away, to reveal a massive draconic Kinkakumon. And it was plenty clear that she wasn’t some muscular pinup girl for one’s secret magazines - no, Wrylia looked much more like a bodybuilder in proportions, large and powerful and very much in charge. And she wasted no time in showing this off - for she’d grapple the stunned Gazimon-X, and begin to swing the beast digimon around without issue; slamming them into trees, and the grassy earth!
Kano, meanwhile, would be absolutely stunned as Wrylia gained her second wind, and went straight into fighting the Gazimon-X head-on; he needed a second to parse all of this, to figure out what in the heck just happened. He… Provided a ‘charge’ for the device, whatever it was - and afterwards, it looked almost as though his patient had changed! Became larger, burlier, and visibly more powerful - powerful enough to give the Gazimon-X a run for their money…!
Though, this wasn’t to say that the beast digimon wasn’t putting up a fight; biting, clawing, and even attempting to breathe out a gas of some sort to try and turn the tables. But even as Wrylia’s movement was hampered by the paralytic gas, she fought like a wild beast - every bit the dragon that she appeared to be! Snarling, roaring, she would swing her club, she would charge her gauntlets with electricity, she would bash the Gazimon-X into whatever she pleased!
It was of no surprise that the Gazimon-X would eventually be left beaten down, backing away from the fight now that the tables had turned in them. “What… What in the hell are you?!” They’d question, watching as the electricity about Wrylia began to arc out into the air around her, and as she extended a fist outwards - a thumb directed sideways. Once upon a time, this was the runt that wasn't able to digivolve - someone with a big mouth, yet none of the muscle to back it up. But clearly, something had to have changed, for her to get this big now - right..?
And the ogress in question would simply grin, wide and feral. “Someone who’s had enough, of being the little guy.” Wrylia responded, as she turned her thumb downwards. A crackle, a thrum in the air, as the electricity seemed to begin to coalesce - until all at once, with a thundering roar, lightning in the shape of a massive dragon would slam downwards into the Gazimon-X; a burst of electricity that even Kano, at the sidelines, could feel in his bones.
And as the dust settled, well, it was safe to say that the beast digimon was done for - briefly ramrod straight and stiff, before proceeding to collapse forward with a groan as the electricity finally finished running through their body. Wrylia, meanwhile, was huffing - the electricity that had wreathed her body before now completely absent, in having expended it all in that single blow. She’d watch the Gazimon-X for a few moments - and when it seemed that the beast digimon was likely unconscious, she’d finally settle her gaze upon Kano. “That surge of strength… That was you, wasn’t it?” She’d question, her eyes staring at the device in his hands.
Kano couldn’t help but blink dumbly initially - still processing what all had happened today. Things were… Wild, to say the least, given that this had all gone on shortly after he entered this strange new world. Upon realizing that she had asked a question though, he’d blink and glance down at the device in his hands - which seemed to no longer be glowing like it had, when Wrylia began changing in form. “Yeah. I… Think so?” He’d respond, before shaking his head and muttering “I don’t know what’s going on. I fall into the canal, I find myself in the middle of nowhere, I find you unconscious and bleeding out, and now here we are. You could tell me you’re the new damn Queen of England, and I’d believe you.”
Wrylia couldn’t help but snort a laugh at this, grinning widely. She’d reach out and ruffle at Kano’s head - remarking “Guess you’re new to the area then, Pipsqueak?”
Kano would stumble at this - reaching his hands up to protect his head as he retorted “Like hell I’m a pipsqueak! You were about my size, before!”
“You’re like, a third of my size now. That’s pretty pipsqueak-y to me.”
“Big talk for someone I had to patch up - and besides, you opened your stitches!”
“Eh, I’ll be fiiiiine, I’m a big girl.”
“Keep saying that when you pass out from bloodloss again.”
Even amidst the banter though, Kano couldn’t help but find himself grinning a little - reflecting Wrylia’s own expression. The first bit of excitement he’d found in a long while - something so different and so distant from the troubles of the human world. Even as he got to work fixing up the massive Kinkakumon, he’d glance up to her face - and after pondering his words, spoke “... I’m Kano, by the way. What'd you steal, that got that Bearus-thing after you..?”
The ogress - more than willing to relax and take it easy, after having burnt her energy in the previous fight - would glance down to Kano in turn, before chuckling and smirking. “Call me Wrylia.” She'd introduce herself in turn, before glancing over and reaching for her bag. "Let's see for ourselves what I managed to grab, before we left."
It was mostly miscellaneous cash and trinkets - a few valuables here and there that Wrylia could probably pawn off somewhere. She didn't expect anything fancy, given she grabbed at random, though... "... Well, whaddya know." She'd eventually state, her eyes lighting up as she opened up a couple of small wooden boxes - revealing what looked to be a pair of digimentals within them. "These could be useful - no wonder that cloak-and-dagger geezer had these secreted away!"
"What do they even do?" Kano would question, reaching out to take a hold of one - although on contact, it would break down into data, to be stored within his digivice. Strange - he'd give it a quizzical look, and Wrylia too would share in it, as she began to realize that... This must mean that this human was her human, for whatever it meant.
"Hm..." Wrylia hummed to herself, unsure of how to initially feel about all of this - and admittedly having forgotten Kano's initial question, among these thoughts of hers. For what had originally been a rather bad day though, well... It seemed as though things would be turning around for the both of them, with this meeting.
Time would only tell, what this would bode for them in the future...
