Dust stood facing the water in the Oasis, looking at his reflection in the water, the pendant his was wearing. Grabbing it he stared at it for a while lost in thought. It had been a pretty harsh walk to get here, but he remembered the path well enough. He remembered a lot of things about this place, he remembered when he first woke up here dragged by a little girl and her Dorumon partner. He remembered her constantly coming to visit him to make sure he was doing better, never having the guts to tell her who he truly was. That girl was the first one to break down the walls Dust always used to keep others out. "Saya..." He muttered grimly as he gripped the pendent in his hand.
"There you are Dust, been looking everywhere for you!" Luna called out as she ran up, hands on her knees panting. "You took off so suddenly after what happened to Shademon, I got worried you were." Luna paused losing her usual smile as she rubbed her arm. "I got worried you were going to leave me again." Her voice was a lot lower then normal, she really hoped that wasn't the reason he was out here, though if it was he could've picked a better spot surely.
"Luna, why do you keep coming back for me?" Dust's voice was emotionless, not even looking at Luna as he asked. Almost like he was afraid of what face she'd make upon hearing that.
"Keep coming back for you? Because well. I love you." Luna's face got a bitt flushed as she said that, glancing away for a moment rubbing the back of her head. "And like I told you in the Dark area, I'll be there for you. Thick or thin I'm in your corner Dust. You can always count on me." Luna had hoped that answer would be enough but Dust didn't seem to stir from his spot.
"Why though, why me?" Before Luna could answer though Dust shook his head and continued. "I told you who I was, I told you what I did back then. You saw firsthand how I was like in that Nightmare. A Demon bent on destruction, smashing everything around me to pieces till there was nothing left. Just a mindless Beast bent on destruction. That beast, that urge to fight it's still in me and I can't." Dust clenched his fist and teeth staring at the ground. "I can't get rid of it no matter how hard I try, no matter how much I pretend It's not there. Even with Hawkeye and Shoutmon, the second you got hurt I. I wanted to rip them apart, I was right back in that mindset." Dust raised his hands in frustration to his face covering it. "I don't want to hurt you or anyone else with that power but, But." Before Dust could finish though he felt something wrap around him.
Letting his hands down he saw Luna's arms around him, not picking him up but in her Lekismon form leaning down. "Dust, you're not just some mindless beast. Your friend from before saw that, I see that now. A mindless beast doesn't get mad when his partner gets hurt, they don't choose only to fight when they have to." Luna let out a soft sigh then continued. "A beast also doesn't hold the hand of a foe, giving them peace before they disappear. Your past is the past, we can't change that but the Impmon I see, the Digimon I fell in love with is a hero. So long as you try that's enough for me." Luna turned Dust around to face him giving the Impmon a smile.
Dust just stared at Luna for a while, his head down towards the ground, he was shaking. After a moment though he simply let out a small scoff. "You always know just what to say huh Luna?" Dust let a small smile cross his face as he looked up before giving the Lekismon a hug back. "Thanks, I. I really don't deserve you." After a few moments Dust let go and walked back over to the water, looking at his reflection once more. Only this time joined by Luna. "I always thought I was like Shoutmon, that I had some alternate personality within me like Omni, some force that wasn't truly me but what I left behind." Dust slowly took off his pendant, staring at his own name on it.
"But now I realize something important, what I was fearing was just me. I was afraid of myself, no matter how hard I try I can't just chalk my past self up as some alternate version, I can't pin all my crimes on some Beelzemon. I can't cause that Beelzemon is just me." Dust walked forward a bit, setting the Pendant down on the ground. "But just because that past was me, just because that's who I was. That doesn't mean I'll always be him, I thought that losing my memories was one of the best things that could've happened to me but, I can't just ignore them. I can't pretend they don't exist or it's not my fault, I can't pin it on anyone."
Dust walked back slightly, motioning Luna to back off. She did standing a bit far back watching the Impmon. "My future though, that's decided by me. I can't change what I did but I can change who I will be. I won't run from it anymore, I won't hide from who I was. If those hurt by my actions seek vengeance so be it." As Dust said this a violent wind started kicking up, power seemed to start emanating from the Impmon as he started changing, getting taller. Much taller then Luna. Before long Dust was standing upright as a Beelzemon. "I've accepted it, I won't go back on my word." Luna looked up at the Beelzemon's eyes, it was something she hadn't seen from Dust in a while. He seemed to have no doubts in his mind. "Luna, I hope you'll stay by my side through this." Dust asked reaching out his hand with a smile.
Luna slowly took Dust's hand gaining her usual smile back. "Of course, through thick and thin. I'll stand by your side Dust. No matter what." With that the two of them sat under the tree of the Oasis, eventually falling asleep under there. As Dust had done so long ago.
