MPC Name: The Hamble Gamble MPC Number: 90CReward Requested: Bits Living in Rosewood and working for Tori has slowly, but surely worked out as she became his primary source of information about the Digital World. In his early days in this world, Hans had a lot of interactions with locals, so talks with Tori were happening on daily basis often. Even though she was depicting only places and creatures in her tough past, it was more than enough. During her travels, she heard about a special place, in the Backup Bayou of Eastern Timberlands, where anyone can win some luck by placing his own luck at the stake. As the Piyomon was always preferring a natural flow of things, she decided to stay away from this place as she wasn't sure if she can win. Besides, she wasn't sure if a game (or whatever is used to win) was fair or if the owner is cheating. But the bird had told about this place to Hans, who consider it as a good opportunity to find Hatsumi's daughter, and extra luck would be very handy for the case. And so he ventured to the Backup Bayou, but now fully equipped and was ready for much dire challenges. The mysterious place location was terrible, at best. The last half of a mile was harsh, at least. It was a rainy thunderstorm which has greatly reduced his vision (making him stumble every three steps), and where Hans didn't want to be struck by lighting. What seemed to be a magical place appeared a typical American bar with a lot of arcade machines and a poker table in the middle. Its rules were just like normal poker, but it was the game where digimons (or even humans) either earn or lose their luck. It was used instead of poker chips. Instead of them, every player had a coin which is charged with a creature's fortune. The brighter it was, the better (or not) its owner's luck was. Surprisingly, all digimons in this place knew how to play as the game had human origin and rules, which were supposed hard to understand for beings of this world. Of course, that didn't frighten Hans in any way and he resolves for a game or two with players inside. Needless to say, they were happy for a game with a human as it was a belief, that human luck is more valuable. And so he started, luckily he knew how to play poker. However, his playing skills were average at best. Regardless, Hans managed to win a couple of games. But when he decided to leave the place while his luck with him, Walzman was almost been thunderstruck again. Moreover, his coin wasn't brighter stronger as it should be, making him think the game or players are cheating. He knew the rule of many casinos as "the house always wins", but he had no idea if the same applies to this magical place. And as it turned out later, all those digimons inside were one loss ahead from being kicked out from the building. And a digimon who had lost their luck at all is almost dead, should it make its way out of the building. But Hans' luck was still with him, yet he didn't know who to ask as nobody knew the owner of the place or had ever seen. This means he and Renamon got stuck here for a while. Perhaps, if there could another human, they could unite their bets and thus invite the owner for a game. But since almost everyone here was a digimon, Hans' chances of getting out of here alive weren't high as the combined value of their luck wasn't too high.

"This whole place seems unnatural, even for the Digital world." Tartar muttered, as he, Octavio, Cecilia, and Soundblaster made their way towards the door of the bar. "Gambling using actual luck as collateral? That makes no scientific sense whatsoever."
"Says the mad scientist who's done some crazy himself." Octavio snarked back at the Kokuwamon X, although the ShogunOctomon had to agree that his... acquaintance had a point. After hearing the rumors about this place, something definitely seemed fishy. Hence, why the four members of the Xros Army had trekked all the way through this Yggdrasil-forsaken bayou to investigate. Luckily, the thunderstorm didn't bother the quartet too much, as Octavio and Cecilia were aquatic in nature and the two mechanical Digimon in the group were resistant to lightning.
Or at least three of them would be investigating, seeing as Cecilia first action upon entering the place was to immediately make her way over to a vintage pinball machine and start using her weekly allowance to play a few games. Ah, well. It wouldn't hurt to let his daughter have a little fun while the team was here.
It didn't take Octavio long to notice the poker table, but the lone human accompanied by a Renamon in the establishment also caught his eye. Octavio, Tartar and Soundblaster split up with the Kokuwamon X and the Ballistamon heading towards the card table to try and gather information while Octavio headed over towards the human and the Renamon.
"Do you two happen to know if this is the place where one can supposedly bet their own luck while gambling?" Octavio asked the duo. Word count: 269/1000

"Yes. But if you came here to win some luck, you might be a bit disappointed. You won't get any. See all those digimons? Well, all of them have tried that. Including me, damn it. If not digimons, then lighting will kill me.". Hans replied, being not so happy that a potential victim appeared. That didn't help the current situation as Walzman still didn't know how to get out of place. But now not only he will be in search of an exit from here. In search of a potential solution, the young tamer looked closer at the coin with his luck. There he was noticing a digimon, but his Digivice scanner wasn't able to identify who was on the coin. And Hans didn't know enough digimons to recognize the person either. Otherwise, he would know that is Gashamon, the owner of the place.
But his search for the answer was short. There was a Gotsumon, who was performing a role of a bartender. And that's him, who revealed who belonged the place. He also told that there is a Starmon who was here since ever and always winning, no matter how strong your luck is. That led to a clue, that he may have connections or be in contact with the Gashamon. However, Gotsumon didn't mention how exactly such information can be retrieved as he simply didn't know. That part is now to be solved by someone else. Perhaps, it can be worth discussing it with Octavio, who apparently could also be stuck just like Hans, since he didn't play yet. And so the Swiss invited the digimon to take a seat behind a table.

"Oh, trust me. We're not here to gamble, since we all know that this whole setup is sketchy as hell." Octavio said, as he took off his helmet and started shaking water out of it. "But if innocent Digimon are being conned into being stuck in this death trap, then we can't just stand by and let this continue." As the two talked, Hans would be told by the Gotsumon bartender about the Gashamon who ran the place and the Starmon who clearly had to be cheating somehow to win as much as he had been.
"Well, something tells me that this Starmon may be our key to finding Gashamon. Way I see it, we have two options. One is to try and play a round with starmon to try and get him to talk, or we can go the straightforward route and try to intimidate the info out of him. Starmons are usually Champion-level, but even a Champion would be wary of going against an X3 DigiXros, even an incomplete one like the one Tartar and I can form." The second option wasn't one that Octavio would usually go for, but this Gashamon's appalling scheme was really pissing the octopus-like Xros general off. WC: 473/1000

"That would be the fastest solution as playing would take forever. We need to act now, feel free to start the intimidation part. I'm just hoping the Gashamon will answer.". Hans stated after some thinking about Octavio's ideas, examining the coin as if it could give him an idea. The fact that he was an Xros General didn't bother him at all, even though he didn't know that digimons can be generals too. That's because he didn't know the in-depth inner workings of evolutions and so, the details. But he was good at hiding his emotions, so the young tamer was acting like he wasn't surprised by the fact, that Octavio is a digimon.
"That's enough!". An unknown digimon roared, who appeared to be the owner of this place, Gashamon himself. He was a vending machine all the time, observing the customers. Even human appearance didn't change that behavior. But once he overhear, that Starmon is might be harmed, he decided to intervene. "I agree to play with you both, but I want to double the stake. Otherwise, none of you will leave that place. That's my house and my rules. Besides, with my supreme fortune and poor yours, do you have a choice?"
Even though Hans now felt heavily pissed, Gashamon had a point. The tamer even didn't know how strong his attacks could be, except for their luck. Digivice scanner didn't provide much information, forcing Hans to rely on the Xros General. He still had his luck with him, but will it be enough to beat the owner of the place? Walzman wasn't sure. Playing with the crazy owner wasn't an option as he would win anyway, and then Hans would have to leave the place as for such rules.

"You know, you're really not that intimidating, pipsqueak." Octavio said, a hint of humor lacing his voice as he looked at the Gashamon that ran the place. "We're not stupid enough to play a rigged game against someone who obviously cheats like you and Starmon. And seeing as none of my squad have played your luck-stealing scam, I think we'd have pretty good odds in a fight. Luck can only do so much to help you when you're outclassed, after all."
Octavio would then whistle to his teammates, the other three Digimon joining the ShogunOctomon's side in a matter of moments as the aquatic General pulled out his Xros Loader. "Digi-Xros! ShogunOctomon PX3! Rubescemon X2b!"
With that, Octavio would Xros with Tartar to form their incomplete X3 form, where Tartar transformed into a floating platform with bulky, wireframe arms that Octavio would pilot from on top of the platform. Meanwhile, Soundblaster's body would separate into pieces before attaching onto Cecilia the Rubescemon as a suit of armor.
With both Xros forms at the ready, ShogunOctomon PX3 would crack his mech's knuckles while staring down at Gashamon. "Yeah, here's how this is gonna go. You're gonna give all of these Digimon back their stolen luck and stop taking luck from people altogether. Or else we'll kick your butt and make you give it back." WC: 696/1000

Gashamon didn't say anything in response, but smiled. Instead, he grabbed one of the customers, namely a Gomamon, to use as a shield. Or at least to make Rubescemon not attack him. "Still want to mess with me, trash? Go ahead, try your luck."
Such a low deed has shocked not only visitors but Hans as well. Where the Gashamon learned such a trick? Regardless, the Swiss guy needed to react fast. Yes, his luck was pretty low, but not his Renamon. And this is what the tamer decided to use. He ordered his partner to use the Enmaku-dan (smoke bomb) with a hand gesture and prepared to act himself as well. The plan was to take away the hostage and leave the maddened digimon for Rubescemon's mercy. Even if Hans' luck will turn against him, he had to try.
"ENMAKU-DUN". Renamon announced, throwing a small object right into Gashamon's face. That forced him to drop his hostage and helplessly swinging with his tentacles (or cables?). That was a sign for Hans to act as he rushed to the Gomamon to pick, but was hit in the chest by the crazy appmon hard once the hostage was in Hans' arms. That had sent him in the air, right where Renamon and the bartender were standing. Kitsune managed to catch the marine-type digimon, but her partner was sprawled against the bar counter, making him collapse for a bit. In the army, he has been hit in his head a lot of times, so such a collide wasn't too hard. He was worried much more about digimons, than himself.
"I'm fine. Go help others.". Hans said Renamon, getting on his feet and taking a bottle of drink from a shelf behind him to refresh himself. Now it was Octavio's part, and Hans took a sip as to bless Rubescemon's attack. "Be thrice-cursed, Gashamon.".

Oh, heeeell no. Just like that, the Gashamon had shot his way straight up to the top of Octavio's s**t list. ShogunOctomon PX3 narrowed his eyes in righteous anger at the Gashamon using an innocent as a meat shield. "Just for that? We're gonna kick your metal butt twice as hard, you overblown vending machine."
As the Renamon threw the smokebomb and Hans rescued the Gomamon from Gashamon's clutches (taking a hit in the process), Rubescemon X2b would charge forward and deliver an electromagnetically-charged haymaker to the Appmon, intending to knock Gashamon out of reach of the other customers in the bar. Not sure if the punch would be enough to keep the Appmon down despite the one-stage power difference between the two, the armored octo-girl raised her voice to warn the other digimon in the bar. "Alright, everyone! Get back so he can't use any of you as hostages!"
Seeing Hans take a bottle and start drinking from it while cursing the Gashamon, ShogunOctomon PX3 would merely pull out some bits and set it on the counter by the Gotsumon bartender. "Keep the change for my friend's drink." WC: 886/1000

Gashamon expected everything but not to be punched in its face. Mostly because he considered himself as a god and was confident he's invincible. Rubescemon has just proved, that Gashamon was very wrong about his own statement, as the applimon was sent to the end of the hall, spinning. But since his luck was supercharged, ten times than an average person could have, the damage he received was half at best. That's because he step aside as Rubescemon was charging at him, just in time to avoid some of the damage. But that was enough to shatter his over-confidence.
"Are you trying to save the lives of digimons here? Why? You don't even know them. So what you're after then? Even if you kill me, another digimon will take my place. Or, rather, its physical shell as I'm not a very simple digimon as you can see.". The applimon said as he was getting on his feet. He didn't want to attack in return, knowing it wouldn't cause significant damage to Rubescemon. But he was fully dedicated to figuring out if the newcomers are mere adventurers or not. "My essence will keep existing as long as humans or digimons will believe in luck or the creature behind it. I'm the result of those beliefs. If you feel I'm lying, you can kill me now but that won't help you and anyone who's inside this house."
"Yes! They matter for us. For me, at least. You may see them only as a source of your power, but they're living beings. So make them free, if you don't want to be killed. Can you?". Hans fired back, feeling himself a bit agitated. He used to think about the Digital World as the land in harmony and peace, but slavery wasn't a thing that suit well here. So apparently, the World wasn't so fairy as Hans thought.

"Oh? Killing you would just create another to take your place? Then we simply won't kill you, although you'll probably wish we had. Trust me, there are plenty of ways to neutralize you without actually killing you." ShogunOctomon PX3 told the supposedly immortal Gashamon, a dark tone in his voice. The floating Digimon would move towards Gashamon and attempt to grab the appmon by the head and lift him up to eye level. The incomplete X3Digimon would pause for a moment before continuing. "As for why I'm concerned for a bunch of strangers? Let's just say you're not the first monster I've encountered that feeds on the innocent. And if THE Demon Lord Leviamon couldn't keep us down, you have absolutely no chance of walking out of this a free 'mon. Got it?"
In order to prove his point, ShogunOctomon PX3 would use the free hand of his mech to try and grab of the Gashamon's arms and attempt to rip it off completely. The brutal action would make Rubsecemon X2b flinch and turn away, but the Incomplete X3 Digimon wouldn't even notice. He was officially out of mercy, and just wanted the Gashamon to pay for his crimes. WC: 1085/1000

"C'mon, do it! Tear me apart. But you have to understand, that my demise won't stop the occurrence of places like this in the Digital World. Maybe it won't take your luck as a price, it could be something different or worse. You'll need to ask Yggdrasil himself on why such things happen, as this place was built by his decision!". The Gashamon replied, seemed to be nervous. But not because of his potential death. He knew that if ShogunOctomon kill him now, Gashamon will still be in a winning position as another Gashamon will take his place. And, probably, on another level of DigiEvolution. However, as Hans was the only human here, the applimon took his words seriously. "You've won this time but don't think this is over. It's far over from the end."
As the vending-type appimon has done with his speech, everyone got blinded for a bit as the house got filled with light. It wouldn't matter if ShogunOctomon could tear Gashamon apart or not, as he and the gambling house had disappeared with no sound, leaving its all visitors on the meadow full of grass. Nobody could understand what happened until Hans didn't pay attention to the coin he received when he started to play. It was shining now as bright as before, meaning his luck has returned to him. It wasn't clear if he got any extra, but at least things will flow in his life as they should be. Other Digimons have also noticed that and it was Starmon who decided to speak as others were still confused. The one who was intimidated not long ago.
"When I become the first victim of the place and forced to work, Gashamon said it will exist until real heroes would appear. I don't know the details, but it seems you've solved Yggdrasil's puzzle. On behalf of Digimons here, thank you! About more places like this, you have to find out on your own as it's Yggdrasil who creates them. Farewell.". The Starmon said addressing his speech toward Hans and Octavio, and leaving the place. Other Digimons started to do so as well. This was the time when Hans noted, the rain has stopped, keeping the sky plain gray.
"I think this is a success, isn't it? No one injured or died. We'll definitely need to celebrate it.". The Swiss guy said after a long pause, still sitting on the ground. He was still under a deep impression of what has happened and needed time to think about it. But he was glad that this place is gone and now could move further.

"Oh, you can be sure that I'll be bringing this up with Yggdrasil if I ever see him, punk." ShogunOctomon told the Gashamon. Ripping the Gashamon's arm off wasn't meant to kill the Appmon, merely show that the Xros Digimon wasn't messing around. Not that it would mean anything in the long run, since both the Gashamon and the bar both vanished in a bright light. "Oh trust me, I know this isn't over."
With the problem seemingly resolved for now, the 2 Xros Digimon spit apart into their 4 components and regrouped with the other patrons. Octavio didn't really pay much attention to the Starmon thanking them for solving the Gashamon puzzle. "Heroes? Heh, I don't consider myself a hero by any means. And I'm not sure we really 'solved' this puzzle as much as we simply cheated our way through by flipping the board over, but whatever. Celebrate if you want, but we're done here."
With that, Octavio would slowly start to walk off, before stopping by Hans and his partner. "You did good out there, rescuing that Gomamon."

"Wouldn't be able to do the rest without you. Live long and prosper, my friend.". Hans said in response, waving to Octavio. It wasn't their last meeting, Walzman was sure. Only when he and Renamon made the distance, the Swiss guy realized he forgot to ask Octavio's name. But it was too late, and the guy could only blame himself. This was an interesting, yet hard day.
