The Rise of Ninjutsu [Open]

Despite the fact that staying in the Digital World was now like a drug, Hans couldn't turn away from his primary goal of traveling to Japan. Also, knowing about the potential dangers of the Wonderland and somewhat lack of combat experience, knowledge of Ninjutsu (or rather part of it) represented a crucial value for the young tamer. That's why upon returning to the real world, Walzman didn't hesitate to visit master Hatsumi. Luckily, the slip of time between worlds was beneficial for the tamer, so not much time passed since his mystical disappearance, so nobody noticed it. Even the morning' hassle with a FlameWizardmon couldn't ruin Hans' plans of visiting the school. After all, the Swiss guy was a very dedicated guy and if he had a target, there would be nothing that could stop him.
The Ninjutsu (or Ninpo) training school, also called a dojo, was located on borders of Eastern Shibuya and its downtown part as the price of rent was an important thing to consider for Masaaki. It was very convenient for those who were interested in the combat side of the art as the training grounds were in the Eastern part of Shibuya. For those, who wanted to learn only its history, traditions, and similar things, a place downtown was good enough. This is where Hans came, with his Renamon in the Digivice, so his partner would gain some knowledge about Ninpo too. Hand-to-hand combat skills Walzman didn't consider useful, at least for now.
"Masaaki Hatsumi? Greeting, master. I'm Hans Walzman, we had a chat a month ago about the training. Can I enter?". The guy said upon entering the dojo, performing a deep bow. The sixty old year man with purple hair bowed in return only it was a little shorter. Then he pointed to what looked like a pillow. Knowing Japanese culture a bit, Hans considered this totally understandable as Masaaki was way older. And pointing to the pillow meant the Seiza posture, which was a very common thing in Japan.
Hans did as the master said, but the training didn't start yet. As Masaaki said a moment later, there could be other people who could come today. That's because Hans' group was international, meaning the master will speak in English. However, there shouldn't be too many people since advertise of Ninjutsu schools was rare. That's because not many people are heard of ninjas, and even fewer were interested in its non-combat aspects. But Hans was very curious about who else wants to study the art. Because who knows, maybe he could become a member of a ninja clan, even if a virtual?

LJ was walking through Downtown Shibuya taking in various sights. Since his parents had accidentally enrolled him in the middle school thinking it was the highschool the adaptive disguised Leomon X had just told everyone he was tall for his age and, after seeing Lothar, no one questioned it seeing as his father was disguised as a six foot eight muscular man mountain. It didn't hurt that if the two were in holosuit form they still looked like father and son. However even in his true form of Leomon X he was dwarfed by his eight foot tall Leomon father though LJ being seven foot would still dwarf most humans. LJ believed his other father Mandrake was likely the reason for him being a foot smaller than Lothar. Then thoughts of his three previous forms came to mind making him surprised he wasn't a Leomon variant wearing a wizard hat or something. The thought of such a sight made him chuckle to himself.
As the disguised magical warrior made his way along the sight of a dojo caught his attention. It was different to the somewhat small and humble karate dojo in his grandfathers village. Wondering what discipline was taught there LJ approached the dojo his curiosity officially having the best of him at that point. Walking up to the door the LJ knocked politely in case there were classes going on. He didn't just want to rudely barge in on them.

Earlier, both girls had gotten their fill of the local ramen in downtown Shibuya, so the two were walking down the streets. Since the holosuited Biyomon saw something ahead of them with a curious sign on front, she spoke to Viki. “I think that’s some kind of dojo, is it? Should we look at it and see what they’re doing?” Vera hadn’t seen something like it before, so this was something new to try for a change. “It would not hurt to look around first, but I am not sure you’ll be learning how to do hand to hand combat.” The young lady replied back as they both saw another man waiting outside of the doors.[break][break]
When they finally reached the dojo and with the presence of the man that was waiting, the two females would stand just a bit far in case they didn’t want to bother him if the guy himself was waiting for whoever would answer the door.

Clayton had his eyes closed for a bit, leaning against a building for a little while with an annoyed look on his face, he had come back from the digital world a little while ago and the sword digimon Zu he was helping had decided to totally ditch him for some digital world training thing. Apparently it was just supposed to take a day, well a day in the human world so seven days there, but even still it did throw a wrench in the spirit users plans, he didn't exactly want to attempt to look for a spirit without some kind of back-up, he had thought about asking Misaki but eventually decided against it in favor of just taking the day to find something else to do.
That something was apparently something that had to do with Ninja! Which was definitely something new and interesting. A friend at school had informed Clayton about the place, apparently there wasn't usually many people and they mentioned it would be right up the teenagers alley, which they were right it was something right up his alley. Given his kendo practice and the training he has been doing since he became a spirit user something like this shouldn't be too hard for him to manage.
Apparently Clayton wasn't the first one to show up, seemed more like he was the last one to arrive as he walked up, probably shouldn't of stopped to eat a few snacks on the way but hey, it was delicious so he didn't really care. "Heya!" Clayton called out to the people standing in front of the door with a friendly wave...... Completely forgetting he still had his wooden Kendo sword strapped to his back. Probably shouldn't of brought that now that he thought about it.

"Come in, come in, whoever you're. At those days, I'm sharing my knowledge as a sign of charity. Donations, though, are always welcome.". Hatsumi said, taking a pose similar to Hans, but in the middle of the dojo, thus forming a ring. In this way, all students could observe the master. And while the Swiss guy wasn't too original in terms of appearance, LJ and Clayton have surely impressed Hatsumi. It was quite interesting how many different people are interested in warfare art which is as old as united Japan. That also surprised Walzman, who didn't expect such a huge amount of students. Let alone LJ (or his holosuit form), whom he met today not long ago.
"So.". Masaaki started, should all visitors enter the place if there are were truly resolved to dedicate their time for such activity. "I think every one of you has their reason or motivation to come here, so I skip this part. And let me emphasize, that's without proper motivation learning the art would be a bit difficult. But let me ask you first before we start the training - who is a ninja for you? What is his purpose? Surely you heard this term if you have come here. Answers will determine how much I should tell you. Because nowadays an image of ninjas or the way they're portrayed is far away from its origin. That's fine if you have read my book, yet I want to know your thoughts.".
"As far as I know, ninjas were mercenaries of feudal Japan. I do know, that most of their tasks were assassinations of high-ranking officials or sabotages. I even know how did they use their tools. But I was always curious how a ninja thinks or acts. That something your book doesn't cover in details.". Hans answered, receiving a nod from Hatsumi and passing the next turn to another speaker.

LJ turned when he heard footsteps coming from behind him seeing two girls yet one of them, though disguised as a human female, was clear was a digimon. That was the second tamer they met today. What a stranger coincidence. Then another human came up this time a human male carrying a kendo stick on his back. Weird if this wasn't a kendo dojo but seeing that as a digimon he had seen stranger sights he let it go. "Hey." LJ said waving to the three strangers. "I'm guessing not all of you were brought here through curiosity like I was. I'm LJ."
An older human welcomed them in and LJ looked around before seeing a familiar face. "Hans? Small world, huh? We only met a few hours ago."
What was a ninja to him? That was a fair question as he had never been around one before. Not even a Ninjamon. "I'm afraid I don't know much about ninjas not that I'm unwilling to learn. All I know is they must of been awesome at stealth to pull off those jobs Hans mentioned. I assume, like all people, not all ninja were of an honorable sort." LJ said hoping he didn't put anyone off with his lack of knowledge.

There was another teenager who came by the dojo as the dark-skinned man told his name. “A pleasure to meet you, LJ. I’m Viktoriya and my friend here is Vera.” She replied just as an old man invited them all to come in the dojo, so the two girls walked inside once the other men walked inside. Another unfamiliar blonde man was sitting on the mat, so the instructor told them that they could sit as a circle of new ninjutsu students.
Both young women sat next to one another at the circle and when the old sensei asked a question of what a ninja means to a person, that was Viki’s cue to speak. “As an exchange student from Russia, I must apologize if I have no idea what a ninja is. If I recall in history class, they are assassins trained in stealth and the like, even the nobles hired them for silent contract killing.” Well, that was what the class were reading up on in the Sengoku era Japan curriculum. “That was my thought too.” Vera replied with a nod.

Well they seemed friendly enough, and also seemed to be on the same page as him. Which made sense though Clayton had to admit if they weren't he'd be worried he went to the wrong place. "Nice to meet y'all, my names Clayton." Though that bit about curiosity made him think for a moment and nod. "Kinda, a friend of mine told me about this place, can't lie that I'm curious but I also figured there'd probably be some training, I like moving around." Aside from the fact he had literally nothing else to do today it was a good chance of pace.
As Clayton entered after everyone else he caught the end part about donations, reaching his hand in his pocket he would find that yes, he was still indeed broke. Maybe next time. The question of what a ninja was to them came up, Hans had a pretty good detailed explanation, well time to put the Eidetic memory to work for him. Once everyone finished Clayton gave it a second to think before talking.
"Well from what I remember one of the main roles was also espionage and recon alongside those parts, getting passwords, information on terrain stuff like that. So I suppose to me it's someone with a sharp eye and quick reflexes alongside general stealth." Though he didn't agree with the honorable part he elected not to say anything, usually assassinations didn't seem too honorable to the teen.

"You all are correct, more or less. I'm even surprised to see a girl from Russia among the students. I'm glad to know that you're curious about Japanese culture being from such a far land. But I believe you all know about ninjas from movies, comics, and alike. Because those images are overly exaggerated.". Ninja's headmaster continued as everyone spoke, looking satisfied with results. Especially he liked the guy with a Kendo stick. If he was good enough with it, then switching to a sword would be no problem for him. Needless to say what is katana. "Yes, ninjas were capable of activities, that nowadays considered as illegal. But ninjas, or shinobis in Japanese, never were criminals, although not loyal like samurais. They were protectors and warriors of their land with unconventional warfare methods. Legends say they had magic or unnatural abilities, but that's not true. It's just tools and techniques they employed. The major part of that was mind and physical training. Yes, ninjas and entire clans had secret training written as manuscripts, but if you could read them, you won't find anything supernatural. You see, in our language, nin means endurance, perseverance, and forbearance in both physical and mental realms. But it also has a second definition of stealth and secretiveness. Thus nin literally means to be in control of body, mind, and perception of what is right and wrong. This is where comes my second question, what qualities a good ninja should have? How do you think?"
Even though Hans carefully listening to the headmaster, LJ sudden appearance had distracted him a bit as he wasn't expecting to see him here. He assumed how strong a Leomon could be, which raise a question on why Lothar Junior was interested in knowledge of ninjas. Perhaps, he was trying to find a new way to deal with his rage? Regardless, images of LJ as ninja made a smile on Hans' face as it would be truly funny to see. A Leomon-ninja would surely be a nightmare even for digimons on a level higher. Or he could be a great field commander as Ninjutsu teaches some aspects of war too.
"I think all ninjas, regardless of their goals, could be not super physically strong, but smart and unpredictable. Because it's obvious if a ninja can achieve its goal without a fight, why he would seek one? Besides, ninjas were never wearing any kind of armor or protection, so every strike could be fatal for them.". The Swiss guy said, switching his look to the disguised Leomon and asking him almost in a whisper. "Surprised to see you there as well, friend. Do you decided to become a ninja, eh?"

Everyone else seemed to have similar knowledge which LJ figured made sense as not everyone there was exactly experts in Japanese history but the headmaster didn't seem put off with it and instead talked about their unconventional warfare methods as well as the fact the used various tools and techniques. Then the mention of the mental and physical training caught LJ's attention. Such a thing made great since for ninjas to be able to do their jobs. When the headmaster asked what qualities a ninja should have LJ said "Judging by what you mentioned a ninja should have a disciplined mind and body. As one trained in karate I have some grasp of that though I still struggle with the mental aspect at times."
LJ had to admit Hans' views concerning ninjas needing to be smart and unpredictable as well as avoiding a fight unless necessary made sense. Maybe there was something to this whole ninja thing. When Hans whispered his question, LJ whispered back to Hans "I have to admit there is something interesting about the idea. Maybe it could help me with discipline and control at least regarding my temper. My magic already gives me some versatility regarding various weapons since I can magically conjure one to suit my situation in and out of battle."

After the head of the dojo had gotten all the answers from the other students over what they believed a ninja is, he explained that there were exaggerations of ninjas in media that were wrong with the real life ones that the people of Japan knew. The next question that the sensei asked about was what the students thought of the qualities a ninja should have. The blonde man would go first with what he knew about the qualities a ninja should have, the other dark-skinned man talked about his own opinion and Viktoriya had to think on it before she could answer.[break][break]
“I presume unorthodox means to get the job done for a ninja would be a sufficient quality in itself, yes? All ninjas have their way of carrying out the job I should think.” The young lady replied to the question, probably a bit confident that this was an answer she can come up with.

Yeah the idea that any ninja's in fiction and the like had any actual place in history was a pretty far fetched idea, though considering the stuff Clayton had seen with the digital world maybe it wasn't as far fetched now as it was when he was a kid. "Yeah the media tends to make stuff like that a lot more fantastical then it actually is, heck my dad got me into kendo cause I kept mimicking stuff I saw on TV, so he decided to show me the actual way and I've been practicing ever since." Well at least that explained the bokkan on his back, he barely even notices it nowadays with all the training he's been doing.
But the second question was something that Clayton had to think about, at least to not say what everyone else was saying. What qualities would make a good ninja? "Well probably focus and ability to hold onto your fear, I mean if they were sneaking around, enemies on every corner being able to swallow your fear is probably a must." That just made sense, heck with this whole digimon thing going on Clayton had experienced fear many different times so far, but he came out of it stronger then before.

This is where Hans got confused for a moment, making him to forget about what he wanted to tell Lothar. He always knew that ninjas strike when the enemy doesn't expect this, from shadows, so to speak. This is also doesn't get along with the Digital World as to get stronger, digimons need to absorb data and how do they suppose to do so in non-direct methods was a good question. But perhaps, Hans can work around that and find a make his Renamon to use it for her favor? To make her enemies vulnerable and weak, so she can strike where it hurts the most. But while a non-direct approach can't be applied to digimons, ninjas ways of getting a job done were acceptable for Hans. There were moments when acting from shadows was preferable.
"Yes. From what I got, a ninja is a warrior whom an enemy should never see or hear. A battle that is won without a single blow is what makes a ninja a skillful one, I guess. They were guerrillas of their time, essentially.". Hans stated, receiving a nod of approval from the headmaster Hatsumi.

"Wait didn't ninjas use bow and arrows sometimes? I get katanas weren't always easy to come by which could explain why they were last resort." LJ asked while puzzling things out. Sure he didn't know much about ninja but that was one thing he heard but almost never saw in fiction. Yet what made a true Shinobi based on what they learned? That was a good question as real ninjas seemed to be more complex than he thought. "I see an advantage in ending the fight in one blow as it can prevent unnecessary injuries on both sides and ninjas should be wise enough to flee if the fight would not be in their favor even when stealth is implemented."
Then LJ thought about things for a little more before he then said "I definitely agree with the whole fighting only as a last resort principal but it is sometimes hard for ninjas I bet."
