((I'm currently trying to thread with as many different people as possible right now. So if you're in one of my other open threads, please refrain from joining this one.)) The last thing Keiko could remember before waking up here was that she had to go outside. There wasn't any more food in her apartment, and the last time she got delivery, she ended up with some giant pink egg on her doorstep that smooshed her food. So after giving the delivery person a low rating, she decided to keep it. It was a pretty large egg, so it probably belonged to some kind of big animal she could like, sell online or something. Her landlord didn't allow pets, after all.
But back to the point, she had to go outside to get some food. So she slipped on a pair of flip-flops, threw on a large white t-shirt that went down past her shorts, the shirt was the one the smelled the least, though it had a slight stain on it from bottled tea from what... one, maybe two weeks ago? Point was, she wasn't exactly going out in style. Oh, and the last thing she needed was that egg hatching and hiding somewhere in her apartment, so she took the egg with her.
After that, it was all kind of a blur. She remembered the intense sunlight, and being really hungry. Maybe that's why she collapsed and... well... all things considered, it looked like she was in a different world altogether. So maybe she like... starved to death or something? It had been... probably two days since she'd had anything but water, but... she had heard that humans could live for a really long time without food!
Regardless, unless Keiko was dreaming right now, she was in some forest that looked... off. Things didn't look quite right. So Keiko let out a long, disappointed sigh. She was in a fucking isekai, wasn't she? And it wasn't even one of those isekai that featured a big-breasted goddess to tell her how special she was.
Well... the only other alternative was that she went to her own personal hell. But she'd rather not dwell on that part. Instead, she figured that she's have to start doing what every isekai victim does. Level up and gain some kind of special power or something.
It was a shame she didn't have any equipment or anything. But there was a big ol' stick lying around. It was a little heavy, but it was doable. And as for the mobs, well... if she was just starting out, there was only one kind of creature suitable for her...
And 'lo and behold, there was a slime creature nearby right now! Some pink-colored slime that was... in all honesty, kind of adorable. "Hello there!" He greeted with a cheery voice. "It's nice to meet you, but... why are you holding that big stick over your head?"
"Oh... so... m-monsters in this game c-can talk, huh... That's... that's not gonna make me feel any less guilty!" Keiko cried out with a trembling voice.
Welp. If this kept up, this starving, delirious young woman was going to club this infant to death. And that's a tad too dark, don't you think?

Well this was a nice day, the sun wasn't too bad when he was in the shade. Yuudai and Yasuo were away from him and not being as loud as they usually were.... They were still a bit loud but he could ignore that with concentration. Yes the teen made the right choice in coming to the forest to relax, things had been way too stressful lately for the teen. From school, to dangerous world exploding events. Mostly just school though that really sucked. It was finally time to do what Shi did best to relax, lay against the ground and not do anything of importance.
So that's exactly what he was doing, laying against a tree with his hat down over his face and his eyes closed, sure a tree didn't make for the best pillow. Honestly on the Pillow scale it would definitely rate a 2/10 but mixed in with the silence of the forest. (If you didn't count the two Agumon wrestling nearby it was silent.) It was a sense of ease and calm the teen hadn't had a chance to really experience for a while, just a serene and nice time.... Now lets ruin it by making him go somewhere!
Yuudai and Yasuo roughhousing had gotten a bit too close to the teen, as Yuudai got slammed into the ground by his brother it stirred Shi out of his daydream state knocking his hat off, just to further this unlucky nature a quick breeze decided that the hat would now go sailing off further into the forest, glancing down at the twins with his Grey eyes and a look of disappointment they both muttered apologies as Shi got up to go track his hat down.
Thankfully it wasn't too far away, though it was close enough for him to hear someone talking, something about being Guilty? Figuring he was probably safe with Yuudai and Yasuo within shouting distance Shi walked over towards the noise, where he found a rather dark scene of a human girl holding a stick over her head aiming to bludgeon a small digimon. Shi blinked a few times to make sure that was indeed what he was looking at before stepping forward.
Deciding he wouldn't risk the whole talking first approach Shi decided to instead grab the stick to keep her from swinging it at the poor thing. "Please do not smash the small monster with a stick." Shi asked in his typical emotionless voice, matched only by his blank face.

Keiko's swing was caught but a mysterious force. Was this... the weight of her guilt from crushing this slime to death? It's true that Keiko had never killed anything more than an insect, and on one... very unfortunate incident, a hamster, but this was just how these worlds worked! So the slime had to die! So she willed her guilt away once more and tried to swing down again. But... still nothing. Then she realized that it wasn't her guilt stopping her from swinging, but a large man instead. Or at least, an expressionless mannequin masquerading as a man. Keiko couldn't be too sure at this point. Her vision was a little blurry.
"You shouldn't be picking on noobs when they're just trying to... level up..." She muttered before collapsing entirely.
"Oh no! Person-that-I-just-met!" The pink Chicomon yelled out, hopping on top of her unconscious body to guard her from the strange man that just appeared and was apparently trying to steal the wooden stick that she had just picked up. He glared up at the young man with fierce... or at least mildly-intense beads that counted for eyes. "You better watch out, buster! I'm not gonna let you bully this human! And give her back her stick!" An intense groaning sound came from underneath the Chicomon. The telltale sign of hunger.
"Keep the stick..." Keiko muttered. "Just... give me something to eat..."
"Yeah! And me too! I was just born a couple minutes ago and I'm really starving!"

Shi managed to keep the teenager from bludgeoning the digimon, good for him. Before he could try and ask her to stop again she seemed to get the will to try and swing again which he also stopped with his amazingly average strength, thankfully he wasn't trying to stop a body builder or something. "And you probably shouldn't be attempting to whack the first thing you see with a stick, yet here we are." Shi returned before noticing her just kinda fall down, leaving him the proud owner of a brand new stick.
Though next he was now being glared at by the same digimon he just tried to help out not get hit with a stick, though this made Shi a bit thankful as they didn't realize they were about to get beat up. Usually that tends to damper the mood quite a lot. Returning the fierce gaze of the small digimon with one that just looked like a mix of tired and bored Shi let out a small sigh as he tossed the stick away. Now it seemed both were asking him for some food, this was something he heard a lot but usually not from humans.
"Of course, Always circles back around to food with this." Shi muttered under his breath as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his Infini-store cube, he kept food in here for Yuudai and Yasuo but they wouldn't mind if he shared, actually they'd mind greatly but they didn't pay for it so he didn't care. "Here, it ain't much but hopefully it gets you back on your feet." Shi reached in and grabbed a large bag of plain chips handing it over, it wasn't the healthiest choice but beggars can't be choosers.

Oddly enough, the strange man accepted her weak offer of precious, life-saving food over a stick. Were sticks possible some kind of rare treasure in this... no that was dumb. Keiko really needed something in her stomach before she passed out, and sure enough a bag of chips was thrown her way, to share with the pink blob that she had attempted to murder just a little bit ago... a delicious salty treat she hadn't been able to expose herself to due to a cheap diet of cup noodles and convenience store bento.
It wasn't long until girl and blob alike consumed the entire bag, Keiko wiping the greasy crumbs on her ratty t-shirt while the pink blob suddenly glowed a bright color, then turned into a tiny lizard with a comically large head. Using his newfound stubby arms, he tipped the bag of chips back to get the last bits out of bag and into his mouth.
"That was delicious!" The pink lizard exclaimed with a giddy laugh, pointing a tiny arm towards the man. "You're not so bad after all, mister! I'm Bub! Nice to meet ya!" And with Keiko's hunger sated for the time being, she sat up, taking a better look at her surroundings. A bizarre-looking forest... slimes changing shape into tiny lizards. And she didn't really say anything to the man immediately. Technically, she didn't need to thank him for the food since it was exchanged for a stick, though that weird cube caught her attention.
Despite her initial assumption of being isekai'd, she wasn't too far off. Strange portable technology. Way-too-friendly monsters. This wasn't some standard fantasy world. She looked up to the man. "This world. It's some kind of P*kemon ripoff, isn't it?" A strange bleeping noise came from her mouth as she tried to say that world.
"You can't say that word in this world!" Bub chided the teenager. "It brings bad luck!" Keiko blinked a couple of times in disbelief before shaking her head.
"But I'm right that it's some kind of monster-catching game, right? Start explaining how this world works!" There was a pause before she suddenly felt a little too self-conscious. "P-please..."

Well thankfully the chips seemed to be enough, Shi was a bit worried he was going to have to give more food out and didn't really know how Yuudai and Yasuo would feel about that, then again like before they didn't pay for any of it so their opinion on what he did with said food didn't amount to much. Apparently the baby had a name so it was probably only right to introduce himself. "Shi Namika." So that was one sorta thank you for the food and one not thank you, which he didn't care about but it was worth noting in his head.
Then the stranger made mention of this being a rip off, he didn't hear what it was clearly due to some loud beeping noise that slightly caught him off guard, apparently whatever she said wasn't allowed in this world... Good to know he supposed. She then went on to almost demand he tell her how this world works, Shi simply stared at her with his hands in his jacket pockets for a moment, as if waiting for her to ask nicer which she sorta did. Good enough he supposed.
"Not really a 'game' but I suppose somewhat. This place is called the digital world, that things a digimon, short for digital monster. Usually people who wander in here get one as a parter, which I'm just going to assume yours is Bub over there." Shi motioned towards the small creature before continuing. "Head towards the west and there should be a city you can get back to the real world from, you just need something like this and you should be good." Shi pulled his digivice out of his pocket as he mentioned it, figuring strange device she didn't know she had would be the obvious criteria.

And things were finally coming into place for her. With food and explanations in hand, this guy... whatever his name was...
"It's nice to meet you, Shi Namika!"
...But he was pretty handy at the moment. And he didn't seem too malicious. He pulled out some sort of strange toy that immediately made him look about 58% less cool. She bet that he paid a ridiculous price to get some stupid little accessory that... let him go back to the... real world.
What the hell!? What kind of game locks out Alt+F4 behind a paywall!? There were scummy business practices, but this was straight-up kidnapping! "S-so... how exactly does someone go about getting one of th-those things... Preferably at a reduced rate? I'm a little low on funds at the moment, so... You wouldn't happen to have a spare, would you?"
"Oh!" The pink thingy monster, that was supposedly Keiko's own little pet monster, suddenly blurted out. "I can help with that!" He took a gulp of air, and then suddenly burped out a similar, but not-quite identical-looking device onto the grass in front of her. She looked down at it. It was covered in saliva and... some kind of gooey pink substance. Yeah... she wasn't gonna be touching that anytime soon. "It was lying next to you when you were unconscious, but I didn't have any hands at the time so I wanted to keep it safe!"
Keiko just glared at the pink lizard for a decent amount of time with a mixture of disgust and horror. Then she turned to face... that one guy again. "You said this was 'somewhat' a game."
"Wha-? You're ignoring me!?"
"If this is kind of a game, then what exactly are we supposed to do with these..." She gave a quick glance towards Bub, then back towards the dude. "These creatures? Like, what's the point of being here in the first place? What do the non-monsters get out of being brought here?"

Shi gave a small nod to the little digimon, implying it was nice to meet them as well without saying it, why he didn't want to talk wasn't really clear but it was the way he wanted to live his life. He was about to explain about the digivice, though he did almost have to stifle a laugh about having to pay for it, if he had to pay for it on top of Yuudai and Yasuo's food bills then he'd be broker faster then one could say digimon. But thankfully the smaller digimon seemed to have the digivice safe and sound.
Safe and sound while also being covered in some sorta goo. Shi couldn't blame them, he wouldn't touch that either. Though then came a good question, exactly what were they supposed to do with those creatures. Which was the question on literally every single person's mind when it came to something like this. "What you're supposed to do." For a second it almost seemed like he was going to say something important.
But then the next second Shi just gave a small shrug. "Pretty much whatever you want, you get partnered with one of those creatures and then just hafta figure it out from there. Some people choose to try and be heroes, some instantly start abusing the power these things have. Pretty much is just up to you and whoever you're partnered with." It wasn't the best explanation but it was the only one he had.
"Also before you ask no, I don't know why this happens either, it just does." That was usually the second question that came out of new tamers.

Bub seemed to get the gist of why everyone was looking at the Digivice so weirdly, so he ran over into the brushes and pulled out a few leaves. He began to wipe all the gunk off of the device while Keiko listened the to blank-faced man explain.
But this guy made for a shitty tutorial NPC. Really shouldn't quit his day job. "So it's a weird world where the rng is bullshit, there's no reason for anything, and the world's full of overly-righteous and selfish tryhards..." Keiko summarized. And she looked at the stupid little pink lizard that was apparently her pet monster. He held up the Digivice to her, proud that he managed to clean it off, but instead, Keiko lifted Bub up instead, holding him by his head and squishing and stretching him out. He was surprisingly... elastic?
"Tha'sh ticklin meee!" He complained. Keiko stopped, but he giggled a little bit. "Felt kinda funny, hehehe!"
Keiko ignored the creature and faced Shi once more. From the way he was speaking, Keiko surmised that there were a bunch more people before her. So this place didn't seem like a very newbie-friendly setting. "So... Is this thing any good?" She asked, jerking her head towards the pink lizard in her hands. "Or is there a way to trade it in for something better? It doesn't seem very useful."
Bub giggled again. "I'm Bub, not 'It', silly!" He let out another laugh before he finally registered her words. "Wait, what?"

Well at least she seemed to have the basic understanding of the world down by what she said! "Pretty much yeah, Impossible to tell what'll happen next around here. For better or for worse." Sadly he spoke from experience, then came the part of her asking if the thing was any good. "They do have a name you know." But then she asked a question that Shi hadn't really considered before, if there was a way to trade them in then could he...
Nah forget about it. "No, you're pretty much stuck with them. So might not want to watch your words cause these things tend to get stronger the closer they are to their partner." A piece of free advice. "It's impossible to tell how strong Bud here will be till later on, but most tend to get pretty powerful." Speaking of powerful as he said that something flew from behind Shi into the ground in front of the tamer, it was Yuudai.
"Hey! I told you not to throw me!" The Agumon shouted as he got up and looked behind Shi to see his brother just staring blankly at him.
"And I told you not to fall on me, yet here we are!" He shouted back sounding annoyed.
"Speaking of partners these are mine, Yuudai and Yasuo." Shi casually introduced, the look on his face being a clear giveaway that he was used to this sort of thing happening all the time.

In retrospect, Keiko probably should have noticed the bipedal lizards wrestling with each other in the background. But when Yuudai came crashing into the discussion Keiko shrieked in surprise, practically throwing the pink Chibimon she was holding up into the air as she fell backwards. Was it a bit of an overreaction? Probably, but Keiko's recent decision to shut herself away from the world did little to temper her emotions.
But if he was upset about getting tossed, Bub didn't seem to show it. In fact, the "Wheeeee!" He cried out as he flew seemed to portray the contrary. He eventually came back down to the ground. Landing atop the girl's face. "Oh hey! Thanks for the soft landing, um..."
That's right. She hadn't given her name out. And a good part of her wanted it to stay that way. But... she was supposed to get close to this little creature, right? She grabbed the little creature's foot, lifting him up so he was dangling upside down. Keiko rubbed her aching nose, then said, "Keiko."
Keiko set the Chibimon on the ground upside down, so his tiny body flailed around helplessly in the air while his large head sat on the ground. "It's... uh... nice to meet you, Keiko!" and with a grunt of effort, he flipped himself upright, standing proudly like he accomplished some great task. "Now that we're partners, we're gonna be the best of friends who are gonna do everything together, and go on a ton of adventures and have a bunch of fun every single day!"
Oh boy. And he was clingy, to boot! "Uh-huh..." Keiko ignored the little pink lizard for the time being, turning to Shi and asking. "So... am I really gonna be safe wandering around in the forest with this thing protecting me?"

Yuudai was on his back looking up at the human who just shrieked in surprise, quickly the Agumon rolled on his back before jumping up on his feet with a large toothy grin. "Heya, new human. Sorry about that whole scaring ya thing. My brother is a jerk who likes tossing me around. So rude I know!" He shouted the last part to make sure Yasuo could hear, he did and simply pulled his eyelid down slightly with his tongue out, such a happy loving brother.
Shi let out a small sigh as he decided to use this chaos to go over and grab his hat putting it back on his head, now his look was complete! While he did that Yasuo came over hearing what the new human and tamer duo were saying. "Man, we run into a lot of new tamers don't we Shi?" It was true they had a habit of doing that for some reason.
"Must be my magnetic personality." Shi deadpanned as he walked back over with his hands in his jacket pockets lazily shrugging at his own stupid joke.
"Yup, partners go on some crazy fun times together, it's honestly a blast all the time!" Yuudai exclaimed collaborating with Bud's idea on what was going on, which wasn't the exact words Shi would use but hey he'd usually rather be asleep in bed then on some mystical adventure.
Though the part about being safe in the forest made Shi shrug, it was honestly hard to tell if a digimon was going to stay as a small creature forever or just randomly evolve into champion after one interaction, he had seen it go both ways. "Probably but just in case we can lead you outta here if you want, Yuudai and Yasuo don't look it but they're plenty strong for anything round here."
That lit a fire under the Agumon, with Yuudai shouting. "Hey, what do you mean I don't look strong!"
"Yeah he looks plenty strong, he looks more stupid then anything else."
"WE'RE TWINS YOU IDIOT!"
"Yeah but most people consider you the dumb one on first glance."
"Stop it." Shi said as he pushed the two Agumon away from each other, both seemed to listen neither one seeming mad at the others words but even still probably not the best impression to fight in front of a new person.

Now that her sense of reality had been completely shattered and she now resided in a fantasy land, Keiko was beginning to adapt to the strange situation. But she still wasn't sure on a few things. For example, Keiko wasn't sure if this Shi guy was fortunate to have two Digimon partners, or if he was unlucky enough to have two Digimon partners. The little pink cretin that was Keiko's partner seemed to be annoying enough, and she couldn't imagine having to look after two such creatures. Especially if they were apparently paramount to survival.
And Shi's duo seemed to be a rowdy bunch. At least one of them seemed like an absolute moron, and the other seemed more than happy to confirm it.
This Shi person apparently had a habit of looking after newbies, though. A thankless job, to be sure. It's not like she could offer him anything in return, after all. And he even offered to use his two partners and help escort her out of this place. "Right... thanks." Was all she had to say, nodding and gesturing to Shi to lead the way. She wasn't fully confident in the two lizards' ability to protect her any more than the little pink lizard next to her, but at the very least if a big scary monster showed up, it would be all the more people to deal with the situation. Maybe the monster would get full munching on everyone else's bones before they could get to her?
