Marigold's eyes glimmer into his gaze. There was not an ounce of worry or fear in them, certainly not as much in relation to his own. She had made him sweat and she knew it and there was nothing he could do to actually unsettle her, if he made a move while they were still on "good" terms then she's just pulverize them with her bare hands. If they went on to whatever criminal enterprise they had in mind after the fact, she had no doubt in her mind that her and her father would be able to send them packing like any other cheap thug. Just to show how unworried she was, she gave her new enemy a wink from across the aisle.
Zack still seems totally oblivious to the silent rivalry being born, just licking the fingertips of his gloves to turn the pages of the comic he was reading from the corner, humming and crossing one leg over the other as he settled in for the ride.
Natsuya sighs and produces his laptop. Who knows how long the trip is going to take... He settles himself in to work on his plan... He has grand plans. And revenge. Lots of revenge. But first, he needs to assemble an army. Not just those who are partnered to him like Charles and Ken, but allies. Those he can twist to his world view. Ken looks at the screen and narrows his eyes a bit, but says nothing... Offering thumbs up or down based on what he reads.
Charles, meanwhile, seems to struggle a bit just sitting there... and he floats on over to Zack. "So! Why the tokusatsu get up? And do you just stay in the human world? Cause, fighting Digimon above like, Rookie is kinda dangerous. Above your weight class even as a peak human!" The gear Digimon kinda just dances in the air a bit as he rattles off his question and statement, apparently eager to learn about this human.
Zack laughed slightly, bending the corner of the page he was reading from and snapping the book closed with a practiced motion, tucking it softly into his bag. Marigold's body tightened somewhat as she saw the partner digimon get so close to her beloved father, she didn't act on it though, not yet.
"Yea, I should've figured that question was coming. So, in order." He said, tucking his hands in lap and looking up at Charles, taking only a moment to collect his thoughts. He'd had to answer these questions more than a few times. "I'm dedicated to doing what I can for any person I find in trouble but I also want to protect the people I care about, therefor, I wear a mask. On top of that it's easier to inspire long lasting and positive change when people see you as more than just one man, becoming a symbol makes your ideals impossible to kill. And no, I don't restrict myself to humans. I'll stand up to anyone who deserves standing up to the same way I'll stand up FOR anyone who deserves it on either world. I will charge into fights I know I can't win because fighting for the right cause is always better than never having fought for anything at all."
"I mean, we've won every fight so far, dad." he said, looking across the aisle, hoping the subtext of that statement wouldn't be lost on her new rivals. "So we must be doing something right."
Natsuya snorts and shakes his head a bit. How naive. But at the same time, he does have a point about what symbols can represent. He keeps typing away though, making no comment while Charles considers what was said.
"...You may have won fights, but how close did you come to dying? Humans don't reincarnate like Digimon do... Do they?"
"No, Charles. When humans die, that's the end for them."
"So... yeah, just cause you won, doesn't mean you haven't almost lost and died." The Hagurumon taps his lower jaw as he looks at Marigold. "...Also hi. You're much better as a Rookie. Not as scary." The gear Digimon says, doing a little twirl around the place now. Apparently, he just can't stay still.
Ken rolls his eyes a bit as he continues to serve as a sounding board, albeit a silent one. Charles will have to just figure out when to shut up.
"Everything worth fighting for can only be fought for when you put it all on the line." he said, reaching down to the lower left hand side of his abdomen, running his hand over the jagged and ugly looking scar that he had received from a Flymon's stinger because he had put himself between it and whatever it was aiming at. "I'm not in a rush to die but when it does come down to that I can only hope that I die with my boots on, facing the bad guy, standing between him and whatever he was trying to do." he said, his other hand gripping Marigold a bit tighter. It was an unspoken fear of leaving her all alone again in the world, but he wouldn't be the father she admired so much if he was too afraid to stand up just because of that.
"I'm only as scary as I have to be. Sometimes, bad guys need a reminder that the people on the right side aren't as dumb or as weak as we look." She said, speaking from the heart, only half intending the threatening subtext that that would send to her new rival but the message was clear all the same.
It almost made Natsuya sick. Such idealism, bred by a world eager to make people so... so ready to die for stupid causes, all in the name of "what's right." And yet all of the people who toil, all of those who actually do all the work get left behind, shoved aside, or get the crap from those in power dumped on them. Natsuya's eyes dim once again, returning to the lifeless tone they started with as he continues typing. Then, just as he saved his work... His laptop screen freaks out. Splitting, glitching, in many colors. And then it shuts down with a whine of the fan. He sighs and closes the laptop, putting it away.
"Oh! We're almost there!" Charles says excitedly. "OOOH, I'm so excited. Gonna start an adventure!"
"More like a venture, Charles. We're starting small. Unlike Zack here, I have no desire to go risking my life fighting something much stronger than us." A pause as he looks at Marigold. "...I'm not stupid enough for suicide, ne?" He slowly rises from his seat, ready to get off. Ken floats on behind him, like a good attendant should be.
Zack would have been able to explain to him that he was more often then not out to help up the little guy where he could. There was nothing about him that was high class or high maintenance but the two of them were already so far apart that that bridge was already burned, Zack just didn't realize it yet.
"Not everyone has to be the hero." He says, winking at Charles and stretching as he stands, up, cracking his neck to one side and then the other as Marigold hops off of her seat, her pointed legs clacking audibly against the floor. "I do what I do because I feel the need for it, I wouldn't force it on or even expect it from anyone else. Sometimes the best you can do is a random act of kindness, paying it forward yknow?" He said, shrugging, still so trusting that "Nate" had good intentions, his own good intentions clouding the vision unlike the way his daughter had blown past the trio's smoke screen in moments.
She stayed close to her father, knowing that there was no way she had intimidated the human tamer enough that totally keep him out of trouble meant that she had to keep a close eye on her father in case Natsuya did something unwise.
"...Well, I suppose I might take you up on that shelter offer. But for now, I think I'll go do some exploring I suppose. Thank you for your help." Natsuya says with 0 hints of sarcasm. At least the creep understands true gratitude. He looks at Marigold for a moment... As if considering something. He then looks at the door and shuffles over to it. "Come on, Charles."
Charles looks at Natsuya before waving. "Bye Zack, bye Marigold! Maybe next time we can take a crack at seeing how strong we get!" the Hagurumon grins before dancing over towards Natsuya.
Ken, meanwhile, leans closer to Natsuya and hisses. "Advise: Find power. Allies."
"Ken. You are the smarter of the two of you. Your advice has been sound so far... That bit? No shit." Natsuya grits his teeth, giving Marigold the satisfaction of feeling his general vibe screwed up by frustration.
And then the door to the Trailmon opens, and he tries to disappear into the crowd as fast as possible, to escape the far too vigilant gaze of the angry bee Digimon. He didn't like her anymore. She was too quick, and too powerful for his liking. And he has to figure out how to even the power scale.
