"Gaomon... I can't keep up if you keep running ahead like that!" A lizard covered in a fur coat complained as he struggled to keep pace with his short legs. The dog Digimon ahead of him didn't turn around, however. Nor did he drop his pace. The trails of his headband simply flapped with the wind as he leaped into the air and landed on top of a small boulder. He spun around with his arms stretched out like it was some great conquest.
"Yes! Victory is mine!" Gaomon declared in triumph. Shortly after, two girls came running up nearby, dressed in athletic shorts and a loose tanktop.
One girl's was yellow with pink stripes. "Hey, Haru... What was the point in going for a run here, of all places?" She said in between breaths. She took a drink from a water bottle as she caught her breath.
The girl next to her, nearly identical in appearance, save for slightly shorter hair and a tanktop with blue stripes, answered, also between labored breaths, "I figured that if we run in this world, then we can do it with our Digimon!" She offered her sister a smile, but Natsu wasn't buying it.
"I get that... but why did you pick this place, in specific?" Natsu asked. Haru didn't answer for a bit, so Natsu conjectured, "You were just hoping that we'd get to meet a dragon didn't you?"
"Hehe... busted!" Haru answered with a tone of "You caught me!" followed by a light-hearted chuckle. "Lu's a dragon, but he's not exactly open about it, so it's not like we can poke him and stuff! So I wanted to meet a big dragon!"
Welp. At least Haru was willing to harass a complete stranger instead of a classmate. So that was... well it wasn't really an improvement, per se. More like... a lateral shift in morality.
And finally, once that verbal exchange was finished, in last place, came the not-doggo himself, Gabumon, collapsing to his hands and knees in exhaustion.
"Gabumon, you need to train more!" Gaomon chided. "It's embarrassing that our partners are faster than you! I bet that Haru could also beat you in a fight if she had the mind to!"
"What!?" Gabumon looked up to Haru with a pleading gaze. "Haru, you're not gonna beat me up, are you?"
"Huh? Why would I do that?" Haru asked. Then something seemed to click. "Oh yeah, I guess I kind of did beat up Gaomon the first time we met!"
"You what!?"
"Th-that didn't count!" Gaomon stammered, shaken. "I wasn't fighting serious back then! B-b-besides, even I was, I've trained a whole bunch since then! I'd knock you flat with a single punch!"
"Oh yeah? Wanna test that out, then?" Grinning, Haru raised her fists, throwing a couple of jabs into the air. "How about you jump off that rock and find out!"
"You're on! I'm not gonna holding back just because you're Gabumon's partner!" Gaomon proclaimed, jumping off of the boulder of triumph and landing a couple of feet away from Haru, fists raised.
"Bring i-" Before Haru could finish, Natsu snatched her sister's wattle bottle away from her, then using her own, sprayed cold water into both of their faces.
"Both of you... Quit horsing around! Gaomon, stop getting so easily provoked by everything Haru says! Otherwise you'll never stop getting fooled!" She turned toward her sister. "And Haru! Stop teasing Gaomon just because it's funny!"
"Ah... Miss Natsu... you didn't deny that it was funny..." Gabumon commented. Natsu turned around and gave Gabumon a cold stare.
"Did you say something?"
"N-no ma'am!"
