Kuro had been traveling for several days now having wanted to get as far from his old tribe's hunting grounds as possible, it had been tiring and stressful, the constant threat of running into a Greymon or some other powerful digimon looming over his head, he spent most of these days jogging at a pace that he eventually found himself unable to keep properly, as it did took its toll on him. Now in the twisting forests of the Mainframe Hills his mind peeled back from worry and he began to feel the full force of the fatigue he had wrought on himself, he now realized he was tired, alone, and starving, covered in bruises and scratches from his careless running, and as he felt he was going to collapse he smelled a somewhat familiar scent, the wave of a campfire. For some reason it filled him enough strength and resolve to push foward as he followed the smell to its source...

Depp in the hills, in a valley between four of the biggest ones around he spotted an old manor house, massive by the standards of the digital world. The campfire was set up in the front yard, a huge bonfire with three figures standing around it. A human, standing with his hands on his hips as he watched an army of spits around the edges of the fire, cooking a variety of delicious smelling food, A FanBeemon, sitting in the glow of the firelight and idly knitting to herself and a Proto Gizmon whose shiny purple exterior shimmered and sparkled in the dancing fire. The human turned, spotting Kuro peaking out from one of the hills and waved to him, wide arcs of his arms before cupping his hands in front of his fae and shouting.
"Hey! Come on in! We've got plenty to go around!" Zack said, kuro's reservations and natural fear of strangers getting tugged at the the smell of fresh meat, vegetables and god knows what else being roasted by the bonfire, the smell of them carried on the wind right toward his nose.

Kuro had never seen such a strange looking digimon, it was almost hairless other then its despite being a mammal type digimon , and it was rather small to boot. It seemed friendly enough, and wasn't attacking him. Even offering him food and a moments reprieve. Kuro hesitated for a moment worried this was just a trap and he was making a mistake, but with his stomach's rather loud disagreement, Kuro decided it was worth the risk and walked into the camp proper. Waving a greeting as he came into the camp light, his unusually bright amethyst eyes darting from the strange digimon to the fanbeemon to the direction the smell of food was coming from. He was truelly bewildered but also in awe at the size and majesty of the structure in front him. He quickly forgot his reservation as he approached his greeter.
"Um, hello, my name is Kuro, I'm a black agumon," Kuro greeted shyly, "If you don't mind me asking, who are you? And what kind of digimon are you? I never even heard of your species before I don't think,"

"Come on in, we were just about to start plating everything." Marigold said, the little bee buzzing as the removed a couple large heads of broccoli from where they were sizzling above the fire, laying them out on a large paper plate until it was bundled high with the fresh, succulent veggies.
"Who me? My name's Zack. This is my daughter Marigold." He said as he pulled free a truly monstrous ear of corn that had equally been roasting in the heat of the bonfire, the kernels roasted a perfect golden brown as he spread fresh butter across the cob. "What kind of...digimon am I? Hehe, oh my friend it seems that you have a couple of things to learn tonight. Have a seat, take your fill, we've got a whole buffet all laid out. Not too much meat I'm afraid, doesn't agree with her." He said, jerking a thumb to point to Marigold as she buzzed back and forth in the flickering firelight just plating the lovely vegetables by the handful until the entire table was covered front to back in perfect, steaming plates of green goodness.

Kuro found himself a bit dumbfounded by the openness of this digimon, or based on his reaction not a digimon at all, and its friend, but figuring it would be rude to turn him down, Kuro sat by the fire listening intently as the stranger explained the lack of meat. Kuro didn't mind to much, the tribe proffered meats but also made sure to keep a healthy mix of other foods, and above all that, free food was never to be scoffed at, wincing a bit at some of the cuts on his arms as he took some of the delicious vegetables on the plate and began to eat, before suddenly blushing and looking towards his host.
"Forgive my lack of manners, thank you very much for the food," Kuro said with a curt bow of his head, before inhaling the rest of the vegetbles in his hunger getting the better of him. After he had destroyied his plate, he looked back up to his host and asked. "So if your not a digimon what are you?"

"Hey, don't worry about it. If you're so hungry that you're chowing down like THAT then I should get you a second helping." Zack said, walking back toward the crackling of the bonfire and turning over some of the spits, checking and harvesting the ones that were cooked through enough, applying some salt and pepper and dumping another full plate right in front of the black agumon.
"Wow, you must be young to have never seen a human before. or even heard of them." Marigold said, beginning to much greedily at her own food, skewering it with the spikes at the bottom of her legs and watching him from the other side of the table.
"Well everybody learns sometime. Well, Kuro, I'm a human. A being from another world connected to the digital world. Sometimes humans get bonded with certain Digimon, like I was with my daughter." He said, trying to explain himself as best he could. Having to "define" what a human even IS is still part of the digital world that he wasn't totally used to, though it was interrupted by an unannounced feeling of some long and metal rolling up Kuro's back, when he turned around he would see Violet, the metallic digimon looking at his body as is analyzing him deeply.
"Request: Identification of unknown digimon species." The machine digimon said, poking at him with the frayed wires at the end of their limbs as if she was looking at an unknown kind of plant.
"Violet! For god's sake!" Zack said, picking up Violet by either side of their body and pulling them away from their guest, putting them down beside the fire. "I am so sorry for that. They just get curious and have yet to learn some manners." Zack bowed and apologized, slowly and sharply turning his head during the second half of his statement to glare at the purple machine.

Kuro listened intently to Zack explanation, the word Human stirring some memories from when his tribe would mention them in passing, it being the reason he even had his name. The comment of the other digimon snapping him from his daydream.
"Uh yeah, Im a little over a year old actully," Kuro said letting out a suprised squeak as the so named violet crawled up his back. After a quick apoligy from the human, Kuro shook his head, "Nah it's fine, Im a Black Agumon by the way, violet nice to meet you!"
This was all a bit much for they young digimon , he knew almost nothing about humans outside of what his old tribe had said and Zack's explanation, so he couldn't much outside of sitting in awe of the human and his companions, silently wondering if he would fortunate enough to bump into anymore humans

"This...curious young thing is my other child, Violet. I knew they were stalking around here someplace. They've got amnesia you see and they're a very curious sort, always wanting to know more, more, more." Zack said, patting the head of the rounded purple digimon machine who waved some of their long silver tendril wires in the direction of the coal black dinosaur.
"They also have a bad habit of sneaking up on people and they've yet to learn how to use the word "please"." Marigold said as she continued to stab at her food to transfer it into her clamping silver jaws, watching as Violet approached the table. They hovered over one of the plates, using the wire tendrils at the bottom of their body to feed the food into an unseen hole at the base of the tendrils, the sounds of clamping mechanical jaws and the roar of an internal incinerator answering the question of how the creature without a face ate.

Kuro watched the little mechanical digimon eat in child like facination, having never seen anything like at all, it made him wonder what other type of digimon were out there, but he decided it didn't matter to much right now.
"So what made you decide to make a resting stop like this for digimon?" Kuro said looking at the structure and realizing how surely expensive and time consuming making such a place would be, not even mentioning what it must cost to feed passerby's and themselves, to call it simply being a good neighbor was ridiculous. But something above that kind of openness and full on selflessness appealed to Kuro. He waited for the human's reply patiently mulling over this thought, wondering how many would share such a sentiment and hoping it was something common among these "human" creatures. But now a more pressing matter came to the forefront of the young digimon's mind, how was he to repay this person for their generosity?
"I know the sign says free but, are you sure its okay for me to give you nothing in return for this, I don't have any bits and Im not very strong... so I guess I'm not too much help," Kuro sighed truly befuddled by his new found predicament.

"Rest stop? I don't think you understand. This is a shelter." Marigold said, finishing the last of her plate and walking with the paper plate, tossing it onto the fire to clean up after herself, the paper crackling and popping as it turned into ash and blew away with the swirling of the wind.
"Free food, fresh bedding and whatever other kind of help a digimon could need. No judgement, no charge." Zack said, turning over the last of the spits and removing their contents, plating them up in front of both Kuro and Violet as Marigold fed each of the spits into the fire, though she kept about half a dozen of them in a pile in front of her for an as yet unknown reason. "Even if you did have bits, your money's no good here." Zack said, waving off even the idea of getting paid for the time, the fire or the food in any capacity at all, especially from the poor, younger digimon.
"Explanation: To this unit's knowledge thus far, the shelter is an exercise in empathy and kindness, two abstract concepts in which units Zack and Marigold place a great deal of emphasis." Violet explained as they finished the last of their second plate quickly, clamping down on the plate itself and pulling the paper implement into the incinerator and jaws hidden somewhere within their body, burning paper was just as good for generating mechanical energy as burning anything else as far as the robotic orb was concerned.

Kuro ate the newly placed food quickly and with great vigor, and within a couple of minutes he had eaten his entire plate. He was put of by the selflessness of the human, to be able to help people and truely ask for nothing in return, it was ever Kuro had dreamed of becoming ever since he was a botamon, he suddenly felt a great deal of respect for the man.
"Your like a superhero! Like Jessmon!" Kuro suddenly declared with all his childish excitment, before blushing deeply and squeaking out a small apology picking the plate up and hiding his face behind it.
Kuro's mind was racing, if this guy was so confident in letting strangers in his home then surely he would know a thing or to about fighing of less friendly digimon. Kuro wondered if he should ask Zack to help him train, not because he thought Zack would turn him down, but rather he worried over staying his welcome. Kuro decided he would wait till he knew a bit more about the Zack and his friends before asking such a thing of him.

Zack and Marigold shared a glance, looking across the table from one another as Zack sat down with his own plate of roasted vegetables, he had made sure that everyone else was eating their fill before he even considered taking the last of the leftovers for himself. The father-daughter pair laughed, throwing their heads backward in a friendly round of deep chuckling as Zack got up from his seat and walked over to the backpack he had set around the outer ring of the campfire area.
"My friend you have no idea how right you are." Marigold said as her father dug through his bag, pulling out a thick gold and bronze custom motorcycle jacket he threw over his shoulders, pulling on a pair of bronze colored riding gloves and finally pulling out a custom helmet made to look like the grimacing face of a bee or a wasp.
"We go out an dispense a little justice, here and there." Zack said with a grin as he let the black visor of the helmet in his hands catch the firelight, flickering and splashing light and color off of itself.
"Correction: "here and there" is a misnomer implying only occasional usage. Units Zack and Marigold conduct nightly patrols both in the human and digital worlds in search of beings in need of various kinds of assistance." Violet explained, not understanding the intentional understatement in which Zack had been speaking, causing him to good naturedly roll his eyes.

Kuro's eyes practically sparkled at the sight of the jacket, it was all very cool to the young dino, and gave him even more reason to want to continue his journey of strength. Kuro's mind was now bouncing between fantasied ideas of the human world, to stories of the exploits of the legendary Jessmon, his predicament of being a digimon who wanted to fight against evil but was quiet weak.
"I wish I could do stuff like that, but I'm not strong at all, and would probably only end up making thigs worse," Kuro sighed glumly, "Its one the reason's I've been traveling alone, I hoped it would help me become stronger, but I've been running for about a week now and I still have no idea how Im supposed to get even a tiny bit stronger,"
The Black Agumon's vision briefly passed back to the the disgusted looks of his old tribemates. And he began to think he would never be able to prove himself at this rate.

"Neither is he, when you get right down to it." Marigold smiled in referring to her father who still let the jacket hang loosely off of his shoulders as he tucked back in to his meal.
"Agreement: Humans are measurably weaker than Digimon in every notable physical aspect. This does not seem to deter unit Zack." Violet concurred, looking over to Zack and scanning him again as if triple checking their readings, as if the idea of Zack doing what he did without some physical tick didn't make any sense.
"I'm almost certainly weaker than you are, Kuro, in a physical sense at least." Zack added to the chorus between his two wards talking about him. It didn't seem to rattle him at all, just accepting his own weakness, something he couldn't change even if Kuro always could. "You don't need physical power to do good. The power you need is right here..." he turned to face Kuro and pointed toward a spot to one side of the black dinosaur's chest, obviously pantomiming toward his heart. "...and right here. Nothing less, nothing more." He said, the second time pointing toward a spot between the Agumon's eyes where his brain would be. A heart and a brain was all Zack ever required and he believed that held true for digimon too.

Kuro found himself once again taken aback by the human, their gesture had opened his eyes to something that should have been obvious. Power was useless without the heart and intellect to weild it and those two things by themselves were plenty good. Power was just a flavor in a sense. But, Kuro knew that Zack was probably just trying to steer him from becoming a power craving brute, not telling him forget becoming stronger cuz wit and heart were all he needed. Yes He surely meant they were just more important.
"So... Do you guys do any kind of special training or anything like that?" Kuro asked with curosity, trying to mask his want to improve himself with them, and maybe get to know them a bit better, but he also didn't want to outright ask for fear of the guilt that he would be abusing their kindness for his own gain and giving nothing back.
