Meanwhile, high above, Hotaru had to let out a sigh of relief. The Digimon she had evolved seemed to be holding their own… even winning, from the looks of it! Though they were still technically outnumbered, due to all the Floramon. And while they didn’t seem too tough individually, they seemed to be quite the nuisance in large numbers like they were now. “So… I don’t mean to bug you guys, but maybe you should take care of the small fry? It seems like that’d be pretty easy!” She yelled out to no one in particular. Hotaru’s Digimon all looked around towards each other and shrugged, while the enemy Digimon, all of the Floramon in particular, looked most perturbed by her suggestion.
Even so, there wasn’t much they could do as Growmon spun around and let loose a cloud of purple powder over the gang of Floramon. Then the powder caused the Floramon to combust as they all ran around like… well, like they were on fire. They probably weren’t going to be aggressive any time soon.
As for the two Woodmon fighting against Meicoomon and Galgomon, the two were clearly being outmatched by their foes who had mainly kept a distance, so the two Digimon decided to try and close that distance. They charged forward, but the Meicoomon ran away from their attackers while Galgomon held their ground. The two Woodmon unleashed a barrage of strikes as the bulky bunny held up their guard as much as they could, but the two champion-level’s assault wasn’t something that they could just shrug off.
Galgomon fell to their hands and knees, shoving their gatling-gun hands down into the ground for support, or at least, that’s what it looked like! “...Golden… Eruption!” They shouted, firing off a burst of energy into the ground that erupted into pillars of golden light rising from the ground and consuming the two Woodmon assailing them. The two Woodmon yelped and were sent flying backwards from Galgomon’s blast. They looked charred, beaten, and battered, but they weren’t down for the count just yet. There was still a little bit of fight in them, while Galgomon looked noticeably drained from the ability that they just used. It seemed like their abilities packed quite the punch, but it definitely took its toll on them.
And while Galgomon was outnumbered, there was one Woodmon that was also outnumbered. Ikkakumon and Fairimon took either side of the wooden monstrosity, while Meicoomon landed nearby as well, landing beside Ikkakumon and setting its eerie gaze upon their new prey. Fairimon zipped around and took the front of the three, her hands conjuring up a pair of sparkling orbs resembling… pompoms. Ikkakumon was once again covered in a blue glitter as Fairimon zipped towards the Woodmon, her glittering hands looking like they were ready to strike out.
But the Woodmon seemed prepared for the fairy Digimon’s charge. They swung their giant wooden club for an arm out towards the encroaching Fairimon. However, at the last second, Fairimon zig-zagged out of the way of the Woodmon’s swing as they appeared behind the wooden plant Digimon. “Angel Baton!!!” They cried out, swinging their arms out and launching her glittering orbs from behind the Woodmon. The orbs shot out, zooming past Woodmon and towards Fairimon’s allies, Ikkakumon and Meicoomon. The orbs seemed to energize the pair, as they charged forward, ready to strike.
“Harpoon Vulcan!” They yelled out, launching another missile from its head that soared straight at the distracted Woodmon. Meanwhile, a swarm of Fishies moved besides Ikkakumon and did the same. Woodmon became pelted by a barrage of missiles, as Meicoomon moved in.
“Slip Stream!” The murderkitty Digimon declared, flying in like Fairimon had done a little while earlier, planting their foot into the weakened Woodmon. But unlike the last time, the Meicoomon kept going, tearing right through the plant Digimon in a loud crash of breaking branches. The Woodmon didn’t even scream as it fell to the ground, its body breaking apart into tiny specks of data that scattered throughout the swamp. Meicoomon looked around as many of the combatants looked at her as she shrugged. “Ah. I didn’t realize I was going to go right through. Sorry…”

Other than the fact that one of her new comrades had just committed a murder, things were looking up for Hotaru and gang! The Floramon group were all but taken care of, and only three Woodmon remained, each one of them looking badly hurt, while most of Hotaru’s allies still looked fairly healthy. Galgomon looked fairly weak, though that mainly from their own doing. Whatever power they used, it definitely took its toll!
But their opponents weren’t down just yet, and one such Woodmon seemed to take advantage of the shock of one of its comrades’ murder. They pushed past the distracted Growmon, trampled over the circle of flaming Floramon, and right towards the remaining two Woodmon. “Sorry… If they’re willing to kill us… I’m playing… For keeps!” Then the Woodmon drove its hands straight into the other weakened Woodmon’s bodies, absorbing their data and beginning to undergo a change!
“Woodmon... Evolution...” Woodmon’s body grew several sizes larger as more and more arms grew out of its wooden frame. Its head sprouted a full head of leaves with cherries growing out from the branches. A similar brush appeared on its face above its mouth, creating what can only be described as a brushtache. It had finished its transformation and had become a creature conveniently announced as... "Jyureimon!!!"
Hotaru may not have any sort of Digital awareness, but she didn’t need it to realize this larger tree monster was much stronger than before. And to confirm this, the angel Digimon holding her aloft rose even higher up as if in direct response to the newer threat, though Hotaru had the sinking feeling that a few extra feet of height wasn’t going to make much of a difference.
But even so, it was one large tree Digimon versus five of Hotaru’s allies. They’d be able to beat this big guy, right?
Well, there was only one way to find out, and they were all about to find out as the group made their move!
Fairimon and Meicoomon both stood besides each other, Meicoomon glittering with the blue energy that seemed to empower them somewhat. They both held similar poses as they unleashed a torrent of air towards their enemy, yelling out, “Shooting… Sonic!” The twin jet streams tore into the Jyureimon, its bark chipping away in some places, making it look scratched up a bit but otherwise unharmed.
“Golden Spiral!” Galgomon shouted, firing a spiral-motion laser that shot out at blinding speeds, striking the massive tree Digimon’s side. But other than a small scorch mark on its massive wooden body, there was little to show from the damage.
“It’s okay, I got this!” Ikkakumon cried out, charging ahead and slamming their body into the wooden monstrosity head-on. However, Jyureimon didn’t even budge as it reached down and grabbed the fuzzy pink walrus and lifted them up as if they weighed nothing. “Oh no I don’t got this!” They cried out as Jyureimon casually tossed them aside, crashing straight into Growmon and sending the both of them tumbling back. “Ungh… Sorry about that, pal… You okay?”
The Growmon let out a grunt of affirmation as they stood up and unleashed a stream of purple flames towards the tree Digimon. The ultimate-level Digimon roared in frustration as the flames connected with their body, parts of them catching on fire. Unsurprisingly, it seemed like the big plant Digimon looked weak to fire! But… Did anyone else have any kind of fire moves? Hotaru wasn’t so sure.
“I’m not going to play any more games… CHERRY BOMB!” The Jyureimon shrieked, shaking their head and unleashing a barrage of cherries that flew from its head and straight towards Fairimon and Meicoomon. The two Digimon seemed to easily be the most agile of the group, and it looked like they had avoided most of them, however, the Jyureimon’s attack was called Cherry Bomb for a reason. The cherries detonated, creating a field of explosions that consumed the pair as their screams were drowned out by the concussive blast. When the smoke cleared, Fairimon and Meicoomon were left groaning in pain, collapsed over a pile of scorched earth. The two were struggling to stand back up as Jyureimon slowly turned its big, bulky body and approached.
“No!” Galgomon gasped, planting their feet down and aiming their cannons straight towards the massive target. “Golden… OVERDRIVE!!!” They shouted out at the top of their lungs, their gatling guns, glowing as bright as the sun as massive rays of energy burst out from their body and towards the group’s assailant. The burst connected, pushing the tree monster back as they growled in pain and frustration. Meanwhile, Galgomon’s arms fell limply to their side, as their guns were red-hot and smoke poured out from them. Whatever the hell that awesome burst was, it left the poor bunny vulnerable.
“Fine… Then you will fall, first! Thousand Vines!” Jyureimon declared, raising his hand as countless vines of ivy appeared around Galgomon and lashed out all at once. And Galgomon, who was completely defenseless, had no choice but to take it as they let out a horrific scream of pain. When the attack was over, Galgomon’s body collapsed, splitting into the heavily battered and bruised Elly the Shoutmon and Emmy the Terriermon. “I was told… not to kill you, but you should all… be punished… for your… pointless resistance!”
“How’s this for pointless!?” Ikkakumon yelled out, charging Jyureimon once more, biting into their tough bark skin.
“As I said… Pointless!” The tree Digimon countered, lifting Ikkakumon up once more and slamming their fist into the walrus Digimon’s side. Ikkakumon was sent tumbling away, one of their large tusks completely broken off in the process.
“This isn’t so good…” Ikkakumon groaned as they slowly got back up. “We spent all our strength beating up on the Woodmon, we don’t have much left in the tank for this big guy!”
But there was still one Digimon with a little bit of strength left! Growmon let loose a howl before charging forward and blasting the cherry tree with a violet smoke that sizzled as it made contact. Jyureimon let out a coughing sound as they took the hit, growling in anger as they swatted the Growmon aside. But the purple dino wasn’t going to go down that easily! It charged back, slicing into Jyureimon’s arm with its arm blade! It barely left a scratch, but the signal was clear. Jyureimon was going to have a hard time if they ignored Growmon for very long.
“So… be… it… Energy Absorption!” Jyureimon unleashed a barrage of root-like appendages that wrapped around Growmon’s body driving the tips of them into the dinosaur’s body. And then it looked like the roots started draining the dino like they were made of water. And Jyureimon’s many light injuries began to close up.
But Growmon wasn’t going to let that happen for free! It opened up its mouth once more, letting loose another stream of flames at point-blank range! Jyureimon howled in surprise as they threw Growmon away, shaking their head once more. “Cherry Bombs!” More cherries covered the injured Growmon as they flew through the air, exploding and sending them flying high up into the sky, above even Hotaru and the angel Digimon accompanying her.
Hotaru let out a helpless scream of worry and anguish as she watched her purple dino companion rise above her, then fall back down, crashing into the soft earth as a Guilmon and Morphomon, completely motionless. Jyureimon looked over towards the fallen Emmy and Elly, then towards Ame and Arisa, then towards Ikkakumon, Fairimon, and Meicoomon, all of which looked like they could barely stand.
“Now… Who is next?”
“This isn’t the way it’s supposed to go… is it?” Hotaru had to ask aloud to no one in particular. This was so… messed up! She was brought to this fantasy world full of friendly monsters who had befriended her. Then, a group of enemy monsters attacked them, and together they were able to unlock a new power to fight them off! They were supposed to win and escape together, not get defeated the very first time they all fought together! “Hey, angel, isn’t there something you can do? Can’t you fuse with someone and-”
Hotaru let out a sudden scream as a vine appeared out of nowhere and struck the angel in the back, sending the two of them crashing down into the mud below. The angel Digimon used their own body to protect Hotaru for the most part, but the girl still went tumbling, skidding to a stop not too far from Ame and Arisa. It took her a second to get her bearings, but there wasn’t any way that Hotaru was gonna let things end this badly! She clutched her Xros Loader tightly. Hotaru crawled over to her fallen dino pal.
“Screw… Going with the flow!” Hotaru, covered in scabs and mud, shouted in frustration. Her Xros Loader erupted in a violet light as if in response to her anger. If things were going in this messed up direction, then she’d just change the flow herself! Apparently Digivices had some kind of special power or whatever, so she was gonna use that power to make things go the way she wanted!
“Human… stay out of this…” Jyureimon murmured, encroaching upon the helpless teen and her unconscious dino buddy. “Thousand V-” It raised its hand to do something, but was taken from behind and knocked off balance by a charging Ikkakumon, Fairimon, and Meicoomon.
“Like heck we’re gonna let you do that!” Ikkakumon shouted out.
“I’m getting really sick of people ignoring me!” Fairimon justifiably shrieked.
“Human, if you’re going to do something, you’d best do it fast!” The Meicoomon warned.
Easier said than done, though. Even so, Hotaru just had an instinct of what she was supposed to do. She pointed her Digivice towards the fallen Guilmon and said, “Naptime’s over, Ame! You’re not done fighting just yet!”
The light shone on the Guilmon as their eyes opened wide as their injuries miraculously recovered. Then they shone with a bright energy as their bodies began to change. “Super… Evolution!” Their legs merged together, its lower body becoming more serpent-like. Its arms grew longer, more armored, and with much more spikes jutting out of them, and blades much sharper-looking than anything Growmon had formed on each arm. It bared its massive row of razor-sharp teeth at its opponent, and finally, two massive draconic wings wreathed in orange and violet flames sprouted from its back. “Megidramon!”
Her purply dino buddy had transformed into a flaming purple dragon buddy, as it glared at the Jyureimon with a palpable hatred that made Hotaru want to go running. Ame let out a bellow and flew towards the tree enemy, as Jyureimon ran forward with a thousand vines around it. There was a massive, violet explosion, and…
That’s all Hotaru could remember.
“...Miss Hotaru? Can you hear me?” The girl woke up to a cloudy sky. Off in the distance, she could hear various voices giggling and cheering.
“Oh, yeah! We kicked their butts!” She heard someone chirp.
“Yes! We were… we were awesome!”
“Yeah, I guess we were all pretty cool back there, weren’t we?” Hotaru looked around, and her eyes widened. In almost any direction she looked, what was once swampland was now a barren, dry wasteland. What remained of the vegetation still had purple embers flickering off of them. “Holy shi…”
“It seems that we had outdone ourselves, Miss Hotaru,” A voice Hotaru didn’t recognize stated. She looked over to see a pink… dragon-lizard thing. Besides her was a blue reptile lying lazily underneath the smoky sky. “Forgive us. We’ll try to restrain our destructiveness in the future.”
“Right…” Hotaru nodded. Of course, the next question was obvious. “So… who are you?”
