Polyglot: As well as Japanese, Lizzie also speaks English and near fluent Welsh.
Backpack Contents:
Digivice: A dark grey D-3 with dark green grips.
Personality: Lizzie is a a hot-tempered girl who, due to having gone through dramatic changes in her life that are completely beyond her control, has developed a tendency to lash out at the world around her and is fiercely protective of any independence she does have. She is not happy to have moved halfway across the world and is not shy about showing it, growing easily irritated by people and events around her and more than willing to react explosively, even violently, to whatever has aggravated her. She completely lacks any sense of self-consciousness and won't hesitate to make a scene in public. Indeed, trying to get her to calm down to avoid drawing attention is just likely to aggravate her further and she will deliberately go out of her way to make an even bigger fuss out of spite.
Despite her general bad attitude, Lizzie does have many good qualities. The same lack of of modesty that enables her to throw a fit in public also makes her perfectly willing to ignore social expectations or peer pressure and stand by her beliefs regardless of who disapproves. She is fearless by nature and stubborn to a fault and although she may appear unfriendly to all, she does have a soft spot for misfits and underdogs, being quick to jump to the defense of those would be easily made into victims. She has a very strong sense of justice and hates to see others being cheated or discriminated against. She may be an unpleasant hard-ass but she's upfront about it and is the same hard-ass to everybody. Even those misfits and outcasts she befriends know she is not going to cut them any slack if they piss her off and that spending any amount of time with her is likely to involve occasional screaming tirades of profanity.
To those few she does consider friends, while she is just as prone to yelling at them as anybody else, she is more likely to feel bad about it after the fact. She is too proud to apologize in most cases but she may go out of her way to make it up to them in some other way later on. She is also fiercely loyal and protective of her friends being quick to jump into a fight even by her standards when somebody she cares about is threatened. While she is drawn to more vulnerable people, she respects strength of will and conviction and often tries to push her friends to be more assertive and confident, even if that means arguing against her. While she is somewhat capable of calm discourse with people she likes and trusts, even when disagreeing, she will often deliberately act more like her usual argumentative self in order to provoke them into arguing back. Of course, sometimes she just genuinely loses her temper, even among friends.
The list of things in her life that anger her is a long one. She hates that she was forced to move to Japan. She hates living in the city instead of out in the countryside. She hates people treating her differently, either because of her accent or her behavior. And she of course hates that her father seems to have moved on after the death of her mother and found happiness with somebody else. She doesn't exactly hate her stepmother, even if she doesn't much like her, and would very reluctantly admit that she even somewhat likes her stepsister but she hates that she doesn't hate them, as it removes an obvious target for her frustrations. Her sense of fair play is too strong to deliberately take out her frustration with the situation on them as she acknowledges they haven't really done anything to deserve it but being around her stepmother further worsens her usual bad mood and as irritable as she is by nature, this means that it is hardly uncommon for something to set her off at her stepmother anyway. She actually is more likely to deliberately seek out arguments with her father, as she resents him forcing her to leave their home for the sake of his own happiness. At least, that's how she sees it.
Very much a country girl by preference, Lizzie does not like city life. She hates large crowds, one more thing that sets her constantly on edge, and prefers open, natural spaces, leading her to spend much of her free time in Miyashita Park or Shibuki Forest though she finds even these spots to be poor substitutes for the open countryside of her former home. She also dislikes living in Japan at all and prefers to continue speaking English or Welsh whenever possible and avoids any signs of Japanese culture like the plague. That this can prove problematic for those around her is, if anything, a boon as it is another way for her to lash out and she often deliberately switches to Welsh to annoy other people. She also has a tendency to naturally slip into bouts of Welsh when particularly incensed, her accent also becoming much stronger during these times. She also has a distinct dislike for any kind of car or motor vehicle, preferring to walk anywhere she needs to go if at all possible, even if it adds to her travel time substantially.
Although easily angered by other people, Lizzie can actually calm herself down quite quickly when left alone and given space. She has a great passion for painting and finds the activity does wonders in improving her mood, as she finds herself immersed in her work and thus forgets about the various factors that have upset her. When that is not an option, she may instead try listening to music. She has a taste for punk rock music that provides her with a non-violent outlet for venting her anger. She also often uses her music to keep her calm when forced to go out in a crowd, using the music in her earphones to drown out the sound of people around her to reduce the stress caused by the situation. She also tends to adopt punk elements in her clothing as well.
Lizzie is a hopelessly blunt and straightforward girl, though it is difficult to say how much of this is a deliberate affectation to further allow her to provoke people around her and how much is an honest part of her nature. Even when she is calm and not trying to pick a fight, she tends to speak her mind freely with little regard to how her words are taken and has a tendency for using biting sarcasm. If she causes offense, then she is remarkably unsympathetic and will unashamedly mock people for getting upset and should they become angry, she will meet them head on in a screaming match or even a physical fight. Strangely enough, this is actually the best way to respond to her if you hope to maintain some kind of positive relationship with her. She can and will respect those who face her down just as fiercely as she faces everybody else and win or lose, she is unlikely to hold a grudge over a fight. People who try to talk down to her and try to make her back down or who fight back indirectly by talking about her behind her back, on the other hand, will only earn her lasting scorn. As far as she's concerned, if you don't have the guts to face her down then you should just accept that she's going to say and do what she wants.
Lizzie's relationship with her family is complicated. She loves her father but can't help but blame him for much of the unhappiness in her life, stemming from his decision to remarry and move all the way to Japan. Their relationship has thus become extremely tense as he continually pressures her to accept the situation and make the best of it, which just further infuriates her and causes her to start more arguments. Her stepmother, she reluctantly acknowledges, is not a bad woman but Lizzie nevertheless wants nothing to do with her and tries to avoid her whenever possible. Her stepmother's continued attempt to get involved in Lizzie's life thus serves as another point of irritation and most of Lizzie's interactions with her tend to start out as terse and dismissive on her end and rapidly escalate to openly rude or outright argumentative.
Her stepsister, Shizuka, would likely have faced a similar relationship but Shizuka's shy and timid nature makes it impossible for Lizzie to not feel guilty about yelling at her while also playing into Lizzie's sympathy for vulnerable individuals. She thus has come to reluctantly care about Shizuka, even if she is far too stubborn to actually admit it out loud. While she will still snap and yell at Shizuka if the other girl does something to annoy her, she is generally willing to spend time with her and would protect her from anyone else who tries to pick her on with violent fury if need be.
Lizzie also likes to have control over as much of her life as she can. She chafes under rules set by others and will not hesitate to defy them if she feels the need. For all that she seems to have no sense of shame, she is a very private person and will immediately become enraged if people try to poke their nose into her business, well-meaning or not. She also hates relying on others and dislikes asking for help if she can possibly avoid it. She prefers to handle her own business by herself and does not enjoy working in teams. She doesn't particularly like being the leader but she hates following orders and as such, when forced to cooperate with others, she will generally try to assert her own ideas as quickly and firmly as possible.
While not particularly academically inclined, Lizzie is an athletic girl and is very proud and competitive. She will generally take on any physical challenge without hesitation, often relying more on a brute force approach rather than any significant level of technical skill. While this can often lead to her failing, she will continue to pick herself up and try again until she manages to power through or else pick up enough actual skill through sheer bloody-minded repetition.
Appearance:
Lizzie is a somewhat short girl with a round face and an athletic build. She has short, dark hair with a dyed red streak through one of her forelocks on the left side of her face. She has large, brownish-red eyes though these are usually narrowed in a frown or glare. Her outfits consists of dark, casual clothing, often falling on the revealing side and with definite punk leanings. Shorts and loose t-shirts are her most common apparel as she claims to find Japan too warm for her tastes.
FaceClaim: BANG DREAM • mitake ran • Elizabeth Marley
Personal History: Elizabeth Marley was born to Thomas Marley, a London born doctor, and his wife Erin. Although they met in London, where Erin was studying art, they moved back to Erin's native Wales shortly after marrying, settling a short distance outside of the small town of Penmaenwawr on the North coast with Thomas serving as a local doctor and Erin running a small gardening shop in the town, while occasionally finding time to sell some of her paintings for a modest amount. It was here that Elizabeth was born and here that she grew up.
Even in her youth she was a somewhat rambunctious child but was generally good natured and well suited to the rural environment, spending a great deal of her time out and about, exploring and running around or painting some of the landscapes in the area. While not excessively social and occasionally prone to getting into fights, she had a number of close friends and was generally happy. While her parents wished she could dial back some of her wilder impulses a touch, they were nonetheless proud of her passion and exuberance and Erin in particular adored teaching Lizzie to paint.
Lizzie's life took a turn for the worse when she was ten. Her mother had travelled to the city Bangor to pick up a delivery of exotic flowers, hoping to sell them in her shop. Unfortunately, she was in a car accident and killed. For young Lizzie, this was a heartbreaking event and in her brief, she began to act out. She went from spirited to hot-tempered, from independent to rebellious and while she maintained some of her closer friendships, she spent a greatly increased amount of time on her own. She also began to look through what items she could find from her mother's past and happened to discover a collection of punk rock music from Erin's youth. She found this music an appealing way to vent her frustration at the unfairness of the world and that it also served to connect her to a part of her mother's life she had never known about only cemented her newfound love of the genre.
While Lizzie's behavior had noticeably shifted since her mother's passing, her father had also been seriously affected. Where once he had loved their rural home, he now found it only served to constantly remind him of his late wife and he found himself travelling more and more often, generally leaving Lizzie in the care of his stepparents when he was away. While he had always had at least a passing interest in his wife's work, he now began to look into botany and floristry with more dedication, initially trying his best to keep Erin's store afloat. Unfortunately, while he did find his newfound knowledge to be a valuable connection to his wife's memory, he was by no means her equal in the field and her store more than anywhere else made the wound of her loss tear open. Between his amateurish skill and the reluctance he had to spend more time in the store, or even in the Penmaenwawr vicinity, meant that the store was constantly struggling.
Attempting to resolve the former issue while avoiding the latter, Thomas spent more increasingly more time communicating with other florists and botanists, often attending flower shows and conventions in an attempt to gain more experience. It was during this time, about a year and a half after Erin's death, that he met Sayuri Higashi. The widower and the divorcee hit it off quite quickly and developed a friendship, sharing their griefs and troubles with each other while Sayuri shared what tips and assistance she had to offer with him. In time, this friendship developed into a romantic relationship, even with the difficulties posed by the great distance between them. As Sayuri's reasons for travelling to the UK so regularly came to an end, they decided to embrace their relationship with each other. Thomas proposed to Sayuri, the two were married and they moved back to Sayuri's home in Japan to begin their happy lives together.
Lizzie, on the other hand, was not at all happy with this. Even putting aside her irrational feelings that her father was betraying her mother's memory by remarrying, and to a woman whose flower business dwarfed Erin Marley's meagre store no less, but she was also forced to uproot her entire life. Where Thomas had felt discomfited by the associations between their home in Wales and Erin's memory, it was the only home Lizzie had ever known and she took solace in the additional connection this gave her to her mother. Leaving her home and her friends to live in a foreign country where she barely spoke the language and stood out like a sore thumb was a miserable experience for her. Between the stress of the change and the anger she felt at her father, her already questionable behavior worsened dramatically.
Her open disdain for the situation did not aid in her father's hopes of finding domestic bliss with his new wife and stepdaughter and she increasingly drew away from him and her stepmother. She initially tried the same with her new stepsister, Shizuka, but even as angry as she was, she quickly became uncomfortable when she realized how much her abrasive attitude was affecting the sensitive girl. She begrudgingly made a token attempt to not take her frustrations out on Shizuka and her mother as much and over time, even began to feel a certain affection for Shizuka. She still was unhappy with the entire situation but she would admit that this one part was at least not entirely terrible.

Ikebana: As well as growing flowers, Shizuka is versed in arranging them.
Backpack Contents:
Digivice: A light green D-3 with pastel pink grips.
Personality: Shizuka is a timid, shy girl who lacks confidence, especially in social situations. She has trouble speaking up in crowds or with people she doesn't know well and is easily intimidated by the opinions and ideas of others, leading to her being unintentionally pressured into going along with what others are saying. She rarely speaks up to make her own opinion heard if not directly asked and even then, she will generally attempt to defer to somebody else if she can.
When she is with people she feels comfortable enough with to speak up, she proves to be a very kind and sensitive girl with a great sense of empathy. She hates to see others suffering and while she lacks the confidence to pry into other people's business in order to help them, when her friends are upset she will go to great lengths to help them. She has a knack for discerning the feelings of those close to her and when not crippled by anxiety, she can put this to use to figure out how to best help them.
Shizuka also has her share of anxieties outside of social situations. In academics, music or in any other activity with a clear goal, she holds herself to very exacting standards. She spends a great deal of time studying and practicing her music and is very critical of herself for any mistakes she makes. She may appear to be calm and confident while performing but this is only after she has practiced to the point that a mistake is virtually impossible. If not given time to prepare for something, she will likely be too stricken by panic to even make an attempt and should she make a mistake, her nerves will begin to get the better of her and cause her performance to deteriorate.
Being in the midst of a growth spurt, Shizuka tends to be a bit clumsy and uncoordinated, further straining her already delicate nerves. Physically, she is remarkably ungifted, not possessing any great physical strength or stamina. With more delicate tasks, such as playing an instrument or tending to flowers, she can be very precise, but when it comes to actual physical exertion she is entirely out of her element and she knows it. She hates most sports and dreads any event that would require her to participate in them.
Shizuka is exceedingly respectful of authority, partly due to her own timid nature meaning she is already inclined towards obedience but also because she was raised to be respectful to her superiors. As difficult a time as she has expressing herself to her peers, this is nothing compared to how tongue tied she gets when shown disapproval from an authority figure. She will generally shut down completely in such cases and can hardly bring herself to even hint at disagreement with them.
Even from sources other than authority figures, disapproval is a deep fear of Shizuka's. Expressing any discontent with anything she does will cause whatever confidence she has to crumble and prompt her to withdraw further into herself. Even when faced with directly conflicting expectations, she cannot bring herself to disappoint either party and will likely be paralyzed by indecision, often causing her to fall short of both sets of standards. On the flipside, when somebody does compliment or praise her, she may initially have trouble accepting it, assuming that they are only being polite. If they do persist in their praise of her, she will be deeply pleased and touched.
Shizuka also tries very hard to stay neat and tidy in public whenever possible. She is somewhat insecure about her appearance, viewing herself as gangly and awkward, but she tries to make up for this by being well dressed and put together. This leaves her with a great aversion to anything messy and combined with her timid nature, leaves her easily startled or frightened by anything that she might deem as creepy or unclean. Bugs, dirt, dogs, deep puddles and any number of other things that might threaten to spoil her appearance can quickly send her into a panic by their very proximity.
She enjoys peace and quiet and particularly likes to spend time in her garden, tending to her plants. While she has developed quite the knowledge of horticulture and botany, this is one area where her perfectionist nature doesn't weigh on her quite so much. She is able to focus more on the overall wellbeing of her plants than on the technical perfection of every move she makes or on her numerous hang-ups about dirt or bugs. She also genuinely loves flowers in general, both their smell and their appearance. Unfortunately, she is unable to enjoy this activity when in the presence of anybody she does not know well, as she does not like to be seen while dirty from gardening, and is always very thorough in cleaning herself up afterwards.
Shizuka loves her mother but there is a distance between them, largely due to the fact that Shizuka views her as an authority figure and is thus unable to express herself but she does deeply crave her mother's approval. This is doubly true for her more distant father who seems to always be unimpressed and only to take notice of her when she fails. Her relationship with her stepfather is respectful but distant, accepting him as an authority figure and doing everything she can to make him feel welcome but too shy to actually form much of a relationship with him.
Shizuka's relationship with Lizzie is more complex. Right from the start, she tried to be friendly and welcoming towards Lizzie, able to express herself a little more to somebody she viewed as a peer. Lizzie's brash personality terrified Shizuka but she continued to try and extend olive branches and as Lizzie warmed to her slightly, she found herself increasingly following Lizzie around. As much as she is intimidated by just about everything about Lizzie, she also finds herself secretly envious of the other girl's confidence. Shizuka wishes she could be as unafraid and unaffected by the world as Lizzie seems to be and is admiring and aghast at Lizzie's behavior in equal measure.
Secretly, a part of her even enjoys Lizzie's antics. Underneath her demure exterior, there is a part of her that enjoys the chaos that seems to follow Lizzie around. She actually has a strong sense of humor that she only shows around people she trusts and due to her very prim and proper demeanor, she has a deeply hidden appreciation for ribald jokes, although she wouldn't admit that even to people she does trust.
Appearance:
Shizuka is a tall, somewhat lanky girl with straight, dark brown hair that reaches down to the middle of her back and narrow grey eyes that are usually downturned. She has a narrow face with delicate features. Generally, she is well dressed and neatly put together with her hair neatly combed and her outfit, usually consisting of at least semi-formal attire with long skirts or dresses, being carefully selected and maintained.
FaceClaim: FRUITS BASKET • machi kuragi • Shizuka Higashi
Personal History: Shizuka was born to an upper class family in Shibuya. Her father, Ryuunosuke, was a successful lawyer and a law professor at the University of Tokyo while her mother, Sayuri ran a successful chain of flower shops. From an outsider perspective, her parents were well suited. They were both successful, both shared many of the same interests and values and had seemingly compatible personalities, both being working professionals with calm, even demeanors. On paper they seemed like they should have worked well together but in practice this was not the case. While they never developed any animosity towards each other, they eventually came to realize that they had no great levels of affection either. Their marriage functioned more like a business agreement than a relationship and while they made cursory attempts to change this, they eventually elected to divorce amicably when Shizuka was four.
Shizuka lived with her mother from then on although her father remained a regular if slightly infrequent presence in her life. While both were loving parents, Shizuka's mother tended to place a high emphasis on traditional Japanese values and put pressure on Shizuka to excel at music, academics and floristry. Her father, while calm and even-tempered, was also very stoic and grim-seeming, even when he didn't mean to be. When visiting Shizuka, he had a tendency to focus on her studies and was not one to expressly show approval with any frequency, unwittingly giving the impression that Shizuka's performance was disappointing. As both of her parents were frequently busy with their work, she spent a great deal of time in her youth practicing or studying alone. Her mother did take the time to personally instruct her in the care and cultivation of flowers when possible and as Sayuri was more free with praise than her ex-husband, it was during this time that Shizuka felt most at ease, leaving her with a lasting love of gardening.
Growing up, Shizuka pressured herself to live up to her parent's expectations in all fields, failing to realize that her idea of those expectations were much higher than they actually were. She managed to excel, which gave her parents the impression that she was naturally passionate and talented and causing them to continue to encourage her in those fields, unintentionally raising the bar in Shizuka's mind even higher. As she spent more and more of her time attempting to push herself to ever higher standards, Shizuka rarely had time to socialize with her peers and when she did, she found herself unable to properly relate to them. She couldn't simply please them with a demonstration of how well her studies and practicing were going as she would with her parents and without any clear idea of how to proceed in such situations, she shrank away, becoming increasingly shy and reserved.
When Shizuka was ten years old, her mother was in the process of making business connections with florists in Western Europe, attempting to cater to a marker for imported Japanese flowers while bringing more European flowers to her own business in Japan. She travelled frequently during this period and while abroad, she met and started a relationship with Thomas Marley. Their relationship grew quickly, showing all of the passion and affection that had been missing from her previous marriage, and when the time came that most of her business agreements were solidly in place and no longer needed her presence to attend to them, the two became engaged and were married in Wales before moving back to Shibuya.
While Shizuka had heard much about her mother's new paramour second hand, the first time she met him in person was when she went to Wales for their wedding. This was also when she met her new stepsister, Elizabeth. Though nervous and uncertain about these new people becoming part of their family, she endeavored to be polite and welcoming to them. With Thomas Marley, this was largely successful and though their relationship was not close, it was at least amicable and polite. With Lizzie, however, it was a different story. The unruly girl made no secret of her displeasure with the situation and seemingly every overture Shizuka made was rebuffed explosively. With the two now sharing a home, however, Shizuka lacked the ability to simply run away and avoid Lizzie and so she could only continue trying to be friendly, even as she was terrified of Lizzie's reactions. Beyond that terror, however, she also began to develop a fascination with her stepsister, admiring that the Welsh girl was strong and fearless in every way that Shizuka was weak and timid.
In time, Lizzie's reactions to Shizuka began to mellow a touch and the two began to form something of a friendship. A friendship that still frequently involved Lizzie screaming at a tearful and penitent Shizuka for some perceived slight but these occurrences became less common and less intense as time went on and in her more mellow moments, Shizuka found that Lizzie could be quite friendly and straightforward, perfectly willing to deliver praise just as bluntly as she delivered criticism and casually dragging Shizuka into situations that she would have avoided by herself while also being fiercely protective of her from those who might cause her harm in those situations.
Digimon Name - Lizzie's Partner: Ala
Default Form: Rookie
Gender: Female
Alignment: Lawful Good
Skills/Talents: Floral Bloom: Ala can naturally exude an aura that causes flowers to bloom at an accelerated rate around her. This does require there to be some plants or seeds capable of producing flowers but at her will, they will near instantly bloom regardless of the season and the plant, if in poor health, will be rejuvenated.
Calming Presence Ala is naturally adept at calming people down and defusing tricky situations. Not only does she have a very calm personality and a pleasant, soothing voice, but she also naturally emanates a fragrant scent that has relaxing effect on those who smell it.
Inventory: Ala generally tries to carry a small collection of flower seeds of different varieties on her at all times.
Personality: Ala is a refined and elegant digimon who is very concerned with aesthetics and proper comportment. She holds herself to a strict code of decorum and etiquette and believes other should do the same. As far as she's concerned, if you're not going to do something with grace and beauty then it is likely not worth doing at all.
Ala almost exclusively speaks in a quiet, conciliatory voice, never raising her voice or showing signs of panic if she can possibly help it. Her words are carefully chosen and delivered with calm, confident precision and scrupulous good manners. Her body language and gestures are also carefully controlled, all calculated to convey the impression of a very calm, collected individual who is always in control of whatever situation she finds herself in, even when this is far from being the actual case. She disapproves of excessive displays of emotion except in extreme circumstances and similarly dislikes any rude or uncivilized behavior.
Unfortunately, while she is always careful to maintain within the bounds of good manners and courtesy, she can be undeniably snobbish at times. She has a very high opinion of herself and is rather critical of others who fail to live up to her standards of behavior or appearance. While she would never be so base as to openly insult somebody, she can be prone to snide comments and backhanded compliments. Even when not deliberately trying to express how much she looks down on somebody, she can be extremely condescending in her attempts to "help" others live up to her standards. She also quite enjoys talking and it can be tricky to get a word in edgewise.
Ala's sense of aesthetics is very strong and she is constantly trying to beautify the people and places around her. She has a natural inclination towards the use of flowers for this purpose but can also make use of other decorations and accessories in order to ensure everything is as beautiful as can be. She dislikes anything that she finds ugly or ragged and will attempt to get rid of them if she can. If pressed, she can adapt to another person's own sense of aesthetics even if it doesn't quite match her own feminine, floral tastes, but anything that strays too far from what she considers attractive will set her on edge.
While certainly as capable of fighting as any other digimon, Ala prefers to leave it as a last resort. She finds it an uncivilized way to solve disputes, one more suited for brutes and thugs than one of her own noble standing. She will generally try to solve problems diplomatically if possible, though this is sometimes made more difficult by her own pride. If diplomacy fails, she will often fall back on her wits, attempting to trick and mislead any would be opponents into avoiding conflict. If that also fails, she will generally make at least one final appeal for better natures to win out but if needs be, she will fight in defense of herself, her beliefs, her brother and her partners. She will make sure to keep up an air of confidence in this case but in truth, combat makes her very nervous.
The huge dichotomy between Ala's personality and that of her brother leaves their relationship rather terse at times but Ala does truly love Ric. She views him as a younger sibling, to be educated and protected, and the fact that he feels otherwise is taken as an act of childish rebellion. While she finds his common behavior appalling and more than a little tiresome, she steadfastly maintains that there is a core of nobility within him and that he has the potential to improve.
As a lover of decorum and propriety, Ala is naturally opposed to anything that might threaten that. She has a strong distaste for any form of intoxicants with a particular loathing for alcohol, an animosity left over from her past life's final memories. She also dislikes messy things and while her affinity for plants makes her tolerant of a certain amount of dirt, she prefers this to be hidden out of view if it must be present.
Personal History: Ala and her brother, Ric, were once a single digimon, Alaric. In their shared past life, they were an Aegiochusmon who resided in a remote section of the Eastern Timberlands, isolated from any large settlements and not on any direct path between significant locales either. It was an uninhabited, largely forgotten section of the Digital World that most neither knew nor cared that it existed. Alaric rejected living among other digimon as he craved freedom above all things. He lived freely in the woods that he called home, answering to nobody and spending much of his time meditating among the natural beauty of the locale and training himself in isolation.
On rare occasions, others would pass through the area for one reason or another. If they were simply passing through briefly and causing no harm, Alaric would largely ignore them and many never knew that he had been watching them from the trees the entire time. Others, however, were more problematic. Some attempted to harm the serene, untouched landscape, hoping to exploit its resources or simply spreading destruction for destruction's sake. Others took advantage of its seclusion to commit vile deeds, hoping to prey on others far from any source of help. Neither were tolerated by Alaric, who quickly drove off those who would disturb his home's tranquility and often saving their victims in the process.
Although he preferred seclusion and his main motivation for driving off the occasional bandits or villains was to ensure his own peace was undisturbed, many digimon who were saved by him revered him and spread word of the heroic figure who protected the woods. Over time, a small number of digimon who eschewed living in the settlements were drawn to the area, hoping to set up their own homes in what they viewed as an idyllic area under the protection of a valiant guardian. Alaric was displeased by the presence of his new neighbors but so long as they respected the land, didn't cause any trouble and left him alone, he allowed them to live in peace and continued to fight off any who would prey upon them. Those who came to live in the area began referring to it as Alaric's Wood.
This process continued for some time until the forest was virtually home to a small town itself, albeit one that was very spread out and existed in harmony with the natural environment. The area around Alaric's own home was left largely uninhabited out of respect for him and he did not consider himself part of the burgeoning community but increasingly he found himself being looked at as a central figure. Not an official leader, but a revered wise man who the inhabitants of the forest looked to for guidance and protection. Eventually there were even annual festivals paying tribute to him. Alaric only found this to be irritating but did not feel entitled to refuse to let them live there and he begrudgingly tolerated their occasional adulations or requests for advice.
Unfortunately, as the community grew, it drew attention from less peaceful visitors. A small number of the new inhabitants of Alaric's Wood had fled there due to persecution from a criminal element in the area surrounding Rosewood. A malevolent Orochimon named Yamato had set up base there, preying on the large number of weaker digimon and demanding exorbitant tribute from them, often in the form of copious amounts of alcohol which, when imbibed, often triggered him to go on drunken rampages. Having learned that many of his victims had relocated to Alaric's Wood, he got it into his head to follow after them and claim his rightful tribute.
Yamato soon arrived at the forest, already well into his cups, and elected to attack the community at once, quickly doing heavy damage to the sylvan settlement and to the surrounding forest. Alaric had retreated deeper into the forest to get some prolonged peace without being disturbed by his unwanted neighbors and by the time he realized what was happening and made it back, Yamato had already destroyed large swathes of the forest and killed or injured many of the people.
Furious, Alaric attacked Yamato and the two ultimates did battle. Unfortunately, as strong as he was, Yamato was also a powerful opponent and Alaric was hindered by his desire to limit the damage to the environment and to the fleeing refugees. Yamato slowly but surely gained the upper hand and while most of the surviving inhabitants managed to escape with the time Alaric bought them, the battle devastated the forest and by the time Yamato delivered the final blow, the home that Alaric had so lovingly protected for all those years was unrecognizable.
As he died, Alaric was torn. On the one hand, he was glad that at least many of the digimon who had chosen to live under his protection had managed to escape. For all that he was a reclusive figure, he did have a strong sense of ideals and did not want any harm to come to them. On the other hand, however, he was furious at himself for not having put a stop to this years ago. If he had been firmer with the first settlers who came to live in the forest, if he had turned them away just as he turned away bandits and loggers, his home would still be intact. He berated himself for allowing so many things to distract him from taking care of his home even as he took solace in the fact that his ideals hadn't come entirely to naught.
Torn by his conflicting nature as he was in the moment of death, Alaric's data was torn in half, forming two new digimon from the different sides of his dualistic nature. Ala was born of his more refined and compassionate side. She is the noble to Ric's savage, the idealist to his pragmatist, the socialite to his recluse and the peacekeeper to his warrior. While she has access to Alaric's memories, many are blurry and indistinct. Her clearest memories from that life focus on his more meditative moments, his love of nature and his more peaceful interactions with the inhabitants of Alaric's Wood.
Digimon Name - Shizuka's Partner: Ric
Default Form: Champion
Gender: Male
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Skills/Talents: Tracking: Ric is a skilled tracker, capable of hunting a target over a great distance by scent or by signs of their passage, especially in plant-filled environments.
Assessor: Ric is skilled at gauging a target's rough level of strength through direct observation. While not so precise as being able to tell instantly what level a digimon can reach or who would win in a fight, it does enable him to distinguish a powerful veteran from a novice at a glance.
Wild Growth: Ric can generate an aura that causes plants around him to grow at an accelerated rate. Plants affected by his aura will grow wild and quickly expand beyond their original space.
Survivalist: Ric has an in depth knowledge of how to survive in the wild. What plants to eat, how to find shelter and how to set traps are all skills he is well versed in.
Inventory: Ric always has an emergency supply of food on him.
Personality: Ric is a very primal digimon, relying primarily on raw instinct in his life. He doesn't talk much and when he does, he tends to communicate with monosyllabic answers and grunts, rarely bothering to string a proper sentence together. As a general rule, he does not like people. In fact, he actively dislikes meeting new people and will not be shy about making this known. Even when with people he does know and trust, such as his partners and his sister, he prefers to remain silent and simply observe them, finding prolonged conversation with them both tiresome and pointless.
Ric's priorities are geared towards survival and practicality at all times. If something doesn't provide a tangible benefit to him and those close to him, he has no interest in it. Social conventions, aesthetics and senses of honor are all useless frivolities in his eyes. He can be excessively brutal and even cruel in pursuit of his goals, being willing to step on other people in order to secure an advantage for himself. This largely contributes to his mistrust of strangers, as anybody who isn't a part of his group is a potential rival for limited resources.
Beyond what is necessary for survival, Ric's desires are primarily aimed towards quiet and isolation. What free time he has once all practical considerations are attended to is often spent alone, relaxing in peace and quiet, preferably in natural areas with lots of greenery around. He has a subtle appreciation for such environments, though if pressed he would claim it is only because these environments are most suited to his abilities. Regardless, he values these times of quiet meditation and will be quickly irritated by anybody who does harm to these environments or inhibits his ability to enjoy peaceful isolation within them.
Ric always seeks to follow the most direct path to his goal and that often means violence. While he does not relish in combat to any great degree, he acknowledges it as a very simple means of obtaining something from a competitor and it is something he is skilled at. His primal nature makes him very focused on physical strength. People can be divided into those he can defeat with impunity, those who he should avoid for fear of their greater strength and those who are roughly equal to him in strength and thus serve as his primary competitors for any goal. The first category are typically beneath his notice while the second he will simply run from or, if necessary, submit to in order to avoid their wrath. It is the third category where Ric's actions become more complex, as he will constantly seek to probe out his rivals' weaknesses and try to secure advantages or to plan around them for when they inevitably come into conflict. He may agree to temporary alliances or agreements with others but outside of those precious few people he allows close to him, he will not expect these agreements to last long and will break them the moment he feels it is to his advantage.
As a ruthless pragmatist, there are very few lengths Ric will not stoop to in order to succeed. He has no sense of shame and will willingly endure any number of hardships or degradations if that is what it takes to secure a solid advantage. He will not hesitate to cheat in any contest and will fight dirty whenever possible. While he is perfectly willing to lie, here he is hindered by his relative lack of social skills. For somebody whose speech skills are in line with those of a particularly gruff neanderthal, it can be difficult to convince anybody of anything that is not plainly obvious. Ric is very aware of this shortcoming and thus rarely bothers trying to use outright deception but he is surprisingly skilled at misleading others, saying just enough to let them draw false conclusions from his actions.
While not a traditionally erudite figure, Ric should not be mistaken for unintelligent. He has a ruthless cunning to him that aids him in the role of both predator and prey. He is skilled at evading pursuit and misdirecting a stronger foe away from himself while those who find themselves as his own target will find themselves falling victim to ambushes and traps galore. His long-term planning may not be the best but he has a surprising grip of tactics. While he is typically open about his more primal emotions, such as anger and fear, he rarely allows these to significantly hamper his judgement and has been known to deliberately feign emotions in order to trick an enemy into underestimating him.
While not friendly to anybody, Ric has a distinct dislike of snakes and serpentine digimon, bordering on a phobia, that stems from the memories of his past life's demise at the fangs of an Orochimon. He will immediately classify any such digimon as potential hostiles at the very least and will likely prioritize them as enemies to be defeated. He also has a great respect for individual freedom. While he is unlikely in the extreme to go out of his way to intercede if he sees somebody else being oppressed, he will have a very low opinion of anybody who deliberately inhibits the freedom of others and anybody trying to interfere with his own independence or that of those close to him will quickly find him as their enemy.
His sister and his partners are among the very few people he tolerates and even then, only in small doses. He finds Ala to be overbearing and irritating but as he recognizes her as a part of himself, he finds her too important to leave. He has become quite adept at tuning her out and ignoring her but he will defend her viciously should anyone try to attack her and is deeply uncomfortable when the two are separated for any great length of time.
Personal History: Ric and his sister, Ala, were once a single digimon, Alaric.
Torn by his conflicting nature as he was in the moment of death, Alaric's data was torn in half, forming two new digimon from the different sides of his dualistic nature. Ric was born of his reclusive and primal side. He is the beast to Ala's lady, the brute force to her subtlety, the savage to her charmer and the survivalist to her sybarite. While he has access to Alaric's memories, many are blurry and indistinct. His clearest memories from that life focus on moments of violence, of securing his survival and of seclusion.

- Phone with wireless earphones

Backpack Contents:
- Phone
