Personality:
Illya is a soft hearted little girl who has had it rather rough. Though she has had her family behind her most of the time and is dependant on them for a lot she has always at least tried to learn to do things herself. She’s used to adapting to her own physical condition and has become rather creative when it comes to accomplishing things her frail body would not normally allow her to. She loves to play video games, play on her computer and read as those are activities that don’t require much in the way of physical activity.
Illya loves cats and dogs, though cats are by far her favourite. She loves to cook, a skill her father taught her and is more then likely to spend hours creating dishes for her family and fiends from the smallest of ingredients. She loves to create dishes and write down whatever recipe she comes up with.
Appearance:
Illya is an abnormally small girl with bright golden eyes and silky midnight blue hair which she often uses a wooden hairpin to twist the upper half of into a bun, while the rest falls loosely to her lower back. When not doing that or wanting her hair up she wears it in a messy high ponytail or a low one, often with a red or dark blue ribbon to hold it in place.
Because of her poor constitution and having been born too early, Illya tends to spend little time outside growing up and as a result has sickly pale skin. Due to prematurity and sickness the girl is nearly half the size she should be for her age, often confused as a child of age 5-6 at most instead of the 7, almost 8 that she is.
Illya tends to favour either reds or purples for her clothing though at times goes with blues to match her hair, a fact she on occasion gets teased about by other kids. She likes fantasy things and most of her clothing tend to have rather nerdy designs on them.
FaceClaim: ASCENDANCE OF A BOOKWORM • myne • Masquerade/Red
Personal History:
Illya was born as the third child of a family who traveled frequently during their lives with their children so the child spent a large sum of her life in Germany; more time there then anywhere else really. She had an older brother named Shiro, adopted by her mother and father a few years before her own birth, and an older sister named Chloe. Shiro tended to be left in charge of the girls when their parents were busy.
Illya was unfortunately born several months early, almost 5 months early in fact to the point she was not expected to survive. Her birth had been forced to be early largely to hospital negligence when it came to her mother’s treatment as the woman was rather young and they didn’t take her seriously as a parent; a fact which would lead to life altering circumstances for their new daughter. The child would have immune system problems for years, preventing her from doing strenuous activities for long periods of time and leading to her getting sick quite a lot.
The medical bills were piled up quickly though thankfully the family was well off enough to handle them where needed, with some help from her maternal grandfather though the parents were always reluctant to ask. He lived in Germany so at times he would be the one to watch the children; not that he was all too interested in that.
Illya would spend most of her days indoors, playing games with her big sister and brother or with their parents when they had time; they always made time. She learned to read at an earlier age then expected and once she did would spend hours reading children’s books and working her way up: Her mother wound up deciding to home school the child given the health issues she had to deal with. Along with these issues came visual impairment, a condition known as Retinopathy Of Prematurity or R.O.P, cause in part because the hospital staff had forgotten to cover the child’s eyes when in the NICU enough times that it damaged her vision forever. She could see, they knew that but she couldn’t see as well. The family got large print books for the child, learned braille so she could read that too and wouldn’t feel like she was odd for having to know it and bought her a cane which she was taught to use. All in all the family was very intent on making sure their youngest was cared for and could survive.
Illya when she was a tad older would learn what her father traveled for and, that was mercenary work! The man was good at his job too and insisted that his children know how to defend themselves as he’d seen much of the bad in the world. Her brother learned the bow and arrow and some martial arts, her sister learning martial arts too and while it took longer for her given her physical restraints leading to many breaks needed, Illya too learned some basic martial arts.
On the weekends during the springtime and during summer breaks when the parents could be home they took their children camping, these becoming fun for the child as she got some outside time but could be monitored where needed. She learned to swim, built up her stamina over the years and with the help of vitamins and such grew her immune system enough where she wouldn’t get sick nearly as often as in the first two or so years of her life. Nonetheless she still liked to spend most of her time inside. When camping Illya was taught to survive, how to hunt if need be though she didn’t enjoy that at all! How to start camp fires, forage and the like; she needed to know it all! At least according to her dad his kids did.
One thing she bonded with her big brother about beyond the lessons he would teach her when he got home from school; was cooking. The boy was good at it and she loved to watch him and take notes. He’d tell her what he learned in school cooking class, what he liked about what he might’ve learned and what he thought was a better idea and she would write it all down. He would let her help him cook dinner on the nights their parents were late and it was his turn to cook and she would take it all in with excitement and interest. Eventually it would be decided that she would be added to the cooking schedule alongside her siblings and parents; the work split fairly evenly.
She didn’t start going to actual school until she was half way through first grade and the parents had moved to Japan; finally able to join her siblings in attending an actual school though she found she knew most of what was being taught already due to her mother making sure to teach her other such things already. She’d known that her child was a quick learner and with her siblings helping when they could after their own schooling she’d managed to catch up quite quickly. There, Illya managed to make a few friends who didn’t mind her by now only occasional but still more frequent then most kids absences from school: They didn’t mind that she couldn’t see as well as they could, or that trying to do sports (she tried for their sakes) never ended well. They liked who she was and it made her truly happy.
Now, with second grade nearing it’s end and her eighth birthday coming ever nearer the little girl waits with baited breath to see what will happen in her life.
