"Wait really?" this seemed to grab Rai's attention. "I usually feed him the equivalent amount in human digital mail. Could I access those addresses through those terminals?" he asked with interest. If he could do that here in the digital world...
"Oooh! You mean I can eat before we go home?" Y2K asked eagerly.
"Y2K sees anything composed of data--that isn't moving on its own-- as potential food. He converts everything that gets into his mouth into primitive 1s and 0s, and absorbs the resulting binary." he explained for clarity's sake.
"Eh... That said I I've never actually let him eat someone else's property... not that he won't ask." he also felt he needed to clarify.
"It not my fault everything looks tasty! Kekeke!" Y2K objected.
"One of the first things you asked me on our first time in Terminus is if you could eat the clothes on display in a shop window."
"Yes. Because they looked tasty!"

"It couldn't hurt to ask. Can Y2K eat conventional foods? If he can then you should consider bringing some in cases of emergencies." Alucard said before he continued "Though I have to admit I am surprised at how unique his diet is. Sure some digimon utilize alternative methods of getting nutrients like photosynthesis but consuming data in this manner is something I didn't expect."
"But, Dad, he is a Keramon. Don't Keramon sometimes consume data?" Poseidon asked looking perplexed.
"That they do but it is almost never used as their primary source of nutrients nowadays as Keramon as a whole are pretty different from their ancestors." Alucard said. Sure Keramon had the potential to be dangerous but with a kind and patient tamer they could be kind digimon despite their destructive potential.
At hearing that one time Y2K asked if he could eat clothes in shop's display window, Poseidon looked shocked and said "Why would he want to eat clothes. They are for wearing not eating. Sounds like Y2K is silly."

"Well he'll eat digital world food... the problem is I wasn't exaggerating. The amount of data he'd have to consume for every meal to reach satiation is enormous, with the potential to be destructive. I'm not sure if you know about gigabytes and emails... but he needs to eat an equivalent to an average 11,000 to 14,000 of those digital mails, three times a day." Rai explained blandly. That was almost 2.75 gigs of data everyday.
"Any digi-food I can bring along in my bag are only snacks to him, no matter how much I try to carry. And he turns up his nose at human food." Rai went on.
"So if I tried to feed him solely on digital world food, I'd quickly run out of bits trying to buy all the food in town. Failing that he'd eat whatever was nearby. I'm pretty much forced to exploit the human digital mail system to farm large amounts of junk mail." he sighed. They were talking about a rookie digimon here. How much would he need to eat if he was stuck in the form of a higher level digimon?
Y2K's 'stomach' rumbled loudly once more. "Lets walk faster, reach food faster!" insisted and urged the Keramon.

At learning all that Poseidon's eyes widened and he whistled before he said "Wow and I thought I had a big appetite but Y2K's appetite is something else. To bad he doesn't also draw in nutrients through photosynthesis. Then again he isn't a plant digimon but some digimon have rather strange abilities."
"With metabolic demands like that it is apparent that he has an unusually high metabolism even for a rookie digimon. It might become more balanced with time but at least you seem to have figured out a system that works." Alucard said. Y2K took the term bottomless pit to a new level though. When Y2K began urging the group to move faster, Alucard said "Don't worry we'll get there soon enough. We shouldn't rush in the desert since in this climate one should pace themselves." The group continued to the tune of Y2K's grumbling tummy but it didn't seem to bother the Angemon all that much as he once had a pretty big appetite back when he was a white Lopmon but it was still slightly smaller than most rookies. However his digivolution caused his appetite to mellow out so it wasn't impossible for Y2K when he was older.

"I could imagine maybe a machine digimon being able to recharge their batteries from solar energy. Humans have panels that do that to power our electronic devices in my world... its not the only source of energy available, mind."
Hearing Y2K's apatite might actually become more reasonable after he'd finished growing was a curious thought, but a welcome one. "I can hope so."
Y2K on hearing that hurrying wasn't a great idea considering the environment, slumped a little. his Schrodinger's Gut made another somewhat quieter noise. "I hope the terminals in Rustport have access to The Network!"
"Hold on... if we're in the Digital World, isn't that already inside The Network? I tend not to get a good internet connection in the digital world using my devices." Rai quizzed.
"What would happen if I connected to the human's digital information network to access those e-mails while I was still in digital space? What if Y2K went inside the inbox to eat like he usually does? Would he be on a different layer of *The* Network? How does that work metaphysically?" he pondered out loud putting his digivice on his chin.

"Some machine digimon probably do that. At least the ones that don't eat food anyway." Poseidon said.
"Even if Y2K's appetite does not mellow all that much he has a good chance of not burning up his energy as he gets used to digivolution." Alucard said understanding what it was like to deal with a young digimon.
While Y2K's gut seemed to be quieting down a bit Rai was quizzing Alucard and Poseidon about how the network worked in the Digital World. Alucard shrugged before he said "I don't know much about how it works. Just that it does and Human World electronics don't work well here. I think the "Network" here is more like a charging or feeding port for some digimon. Since Poseidon and I eat food and can become full in a resonable time neither of us have thought much about it." Sure his answer wasn't helpful but he hunted and fought vampires. He was as far from the local IT guy you could find.

That sounded disappointing. Maybe they would have to use the digi-port after all. For now Rai fell silent. Y2K's seemingly physically absent stomach was none the less vocal as they marched on.
Rai began to dwell again on the events that had just took place. They lucked out. They lucked out big time. He grit his teeth before relaxing his jaw into an entirely neutral position. Maybe they should take a break from forays into the digital world for a while... or at least be more careful.
"What does a vampire-mon look like?" asked Y2K who was only hearing about vampire digimon for the first time this day. "How do I know if I've met one? How do I talk to one? How do you tell if they are going to be nice?" the Keramon went on asking surprisingly pertinent questions. "If blood is their favorite food, do they have a second favorite food? Is it blue apples? I like blue apples." blue apples were said to improve a digimon's mood.

Though Rai looked disappointed, Alucard didn't want to intrude on the teen's thoughts. Poseidon, however, didn't seem to notice not that the Angemon hadn't been trying to teach his son about the importance of focus whether it was looking out for enemies or reading the room. Poseidon then said "Don't you two worry. I'm sure there is some place in Rustport that will have what you need. All that is needed when we get there is to look around."
Then when Y2K started asking questions Alucard looked at the Keramon and said "There is no Vampiremon to my knowledge but digimon that are naturally vampires. If you want to know what traits to look for it's simple. Most but not all tend to be nocturnal, meaning they are awake during the night, and tend to have fangs of various sizes. Some but not all of them may also have wings. If the vampire digimon is friendly they might engage in conversation with strangers. However telling how someone is nice can be hard vampire or not."
Then when asked if they have other favorite foods other than blood, Alucard said "Some vampire digimon don't need to live off blood and these are the ones that can eat mostly normal foods. Even the blood sucking ones have other things they like though just as non vampire digimon do. I think it's a matter of personal preference."

Y2K thought about this. "Is a Devimon a vampire digimon?" Fangs, wings, possibly nocturnal? I mean it fit the description.
Rai while he seemed completely disinterested, was actually listening carefully. He wasn't sure he had much else to say. He just wanted to get back to down soon.
He was starting to get thirsty. He reached into his bag and...? Okay he opened his messenger bag close to his face and... he sighed. His water bottle was missing... maybe it got lost during the-- during what happened.
"Whelp. My canteen is gone." he said as if this was a minor inconvenience that he could have predicted. It could be worse. It could have been crushed and gotten water on everything else. Or everything could have been crushed.
Y2K's under-eyes were naturally staring at the sand, he wondered if he could eat the sand... he thought he could probably eat the sand.
Maybe he should take a bite out of the ground... HMM.

"No most Devimon are not vampires by nature. Though I can see how some demon digimon can be mistaken for vampires." Alucard said to the confused Keramon.
Poseidon watched as Rai was digging in his bag and discovered his canteen was missing. Poseidon then said "It shouldn't be far from here even if it was knocked free somehow. After all those things can only fly so far, right?" Now Poseidon was glancing around spotting something sticking out of the sand not far and walked over using his claws to dig it out. It was a water bottle and, other than being covered in sand, was somehow totally intact. Poseidon picked it up with his mouth carrying it back before using his clawed flippers to hold it up as he asked "Is this what you lost?"
Alucard took notice of Y2K staring at the sand and as if reading the Keramon's thoughts said "I'm not sure if eating sand is a good idea."

Rai took the thing, noting what a remarkable coincidence it was that this was indeed -a- water bottle. It was not however his canteen. Still, he opened it and gave it a sniff. It smelled like nothing--which was good. Water shouldn't smell like anything. "No. But I think it will do. It's got clean water in it. Thanks."
Keramon waved his arms almost like a dance, as the eyes on the backs of his hands looked around too. "But how do you know? It could be tasty. Heeey... wait a minute. I hadn't said anything!" Y2K said opening his mouth and tilting his head back like a shocked muppet.
Rai tasted the water, prepared to spit it out if it seemed off. But as strange as anything else in the digital world there just seemed to be metal water bottle with water in it in the middle of the desert. He wondered who lost it... maybe some other person who ran afoul of those Goblimon.
The thought caused him to grit his teeth. He didn't know why. Right now, things could still bubble to the surface and slip through. He wondered if he was just pretending to be the way he thought he was normally. On the other hand, letting it all out for even a little while had been exhausting.
"What?" he broke his reverie. "I mean he could probably turn it into binary... but I don't know if it would be pleasant." he supplied.
Rai thought getting back to town was more important than chatting further out where they were at present.

Poseidon watched as Rai accepted the water bottle and sniffed it which the young Gomamon had to admit made sense seeing as who knows how long that water was out there or if something was amiss. Apparently it had no smell. "It does seem a bit odd that a water bottle was in the desert but this is the Digital World after all so I guess it could of been dropped by a traveler or could of popped up through some random anomaly that ocasionally happens."
Alucard looked mildly amused by Y2K's confusion before he said "It was how you were looking at the sand as if in thought. I figured since you were hungry that you would think about trying to eat the sand." Alucard's words were calm and logical.
After Rai drank some of the water he seemed to be in thought so Alucard and Poseidon said nothing to interrupt the teen until he snapped out of his reverie. "Perhaps we should get moving again. Rustport shouldn't be far now." Alucard said as he began leading the group again. Eventually the sight of a town came into view and it appeared to be Rustport.
"Whew. Finally. Maybe now we can get out of the heat." Poseidon said wiping sweat from his brow.

Y2K had been looking hungrily at the sand with the eyes on the underside of his head while his font facing eyes had been front facing; it might not have been obvious if you didn't know to consider the secondary pair of eyes that primarily angled down with how he angled his head. However Y2K didn't question this any more than he questioned how angel digimon saw -anything- with their helmet-masks on.
"Cool air and maybe food! Kekeke!" he agreed with a giggle.
"Maybe. I still don't know if I can access the emails with the terminals, or if letting you start eating from one of them is a terrible idea." he said in a voice that wavered oddly between sounding like there was any feeling to it or not "For all I know, whatever well of data the terminals draw from could still be overwhelmed, or exhausted by your appetite as easily as any other food source."
That said, there was always something to be said for cool air. Rai thought he knew vaguely where the Chili Pepper Tavern aught to be and looked to their company before starting off in that direction.

A gurgling sound came from Poseidon's belly at Y2K's mention of food and the young Gomamon said "Food also sounds like a good idea for me too since I'm getting hungry too. Perhaps Dad is as well but he never outright mentions such since he is one of those aloof and private types."
"Poseidon!" Alucard said with a stern warning tone.
Poseidon looked up at his father with his face the picture of innocence and said "Yes."
Alucard shook his head before he said "Nevermind."
As they began walking into town and after Rai voiced his concerns Poseidon said "Never hurts to ask. Maybe if he can't use the terminal then they might have some kind of special food for digimon with insanely high metabolic demands. I think the data for those foods are different or something. I'm not sure cause other than my holy ring I have a fairly normal high metabolism." Alucard and Poseidon continued walking to the Chili Pepper Tavern with Rai and Y2K soon finding the place.

That was a thought, Rai considered. If there were digi-foods like like that, it could make a serious difference if he had them or not.
As they entered the Chili Pepper, Rai was met with blissfully cool air; he sighed and nearly smiled. Y2K on the other hand didn't seem to show much concern for the ambient temperature.
Rai never the less walked up to the bar with Y2K's finger in his grasp and tried to ask the person behind it, "Excuse me. Would you happen to sell digi-food suitable for individuals with absurdly high metabolisms?" he asked plainly as if he was asking for directions.
Y2K opened his mouth and like a muppet and proclaimed to the mon monning the bar "I eat lots!"
"So much it could be problematic..." Rai commented as if it were a drag that the Keramon had to eat so much.
Rai looked to see if Alucard and Poseidon were still there, looking at them impassively before the corners of his mouth twitched to give them a brief smile.
Meanwhile Y2K flopped face down on the floor, alarming Rai before the Keramon commented, "The floor is so cool."
