Mandrake's words comforted Devita at first, until the part about not being sure he would panic. "Hmph. Mister Calm Cool and Collected here. Good for you." Her voice had a tinge of annoyance, but was mostly jokey.
The jokes continued with Devita's reply to Lothar's comments about Mandrake speaking highly of him. "So, if I were to say he said you were a big bonehead, you wouldn't believe me? That's a big level of trust there, I'm proud of you two~"
When it came to Circe, however, Devita was much more serious. Well, a bit silly to be not scary, and quite soft, but more serious. "Hello Circe," she cooed sweetly, "It is nice to meet you. I'm kinda a new friend of Mandrake, and I'm here to help make you healthy again. I'm also a silly hat, as you can see~" She fluttered her wings a bit, then jumped off of Lothar's head. "Okay... enough of me being goofy. I'm going to touch my wing to your face to feel how high your fever is. Is that okay?"

"I never said I was perfectly calm or collected but more like trying to maintain a sense of professionalism which I'm sure you can understand in your field. It sure is hard at times to do when someone you care about is in danger." Mandrake said catching her annoyance in her jokey tone but didn't get angry over something like this.
Lothar quirked a brow before he grinned and said "Of course I have a high level of trust in Mandrake. He and I have been close since we were children so we know each other very well. Sometimes better than we know ourselves." Lothar didn't at all sound annoyed just confused by the DemiDevimon asking him questions.
Circe watched Devita with caution as she gripped Mandrake's hand tightly taking hold of Mandrake's artificial one causing a slight squeak to sound from the pressure the child was putting on the hand from how tight the anxious child was squeezing. She was very wary even though Devita said that she was a new friend of Mandrake but with Mandrake there, Circe knew she was safe and eased her grip a bit before she said "Y-Yeah you can feel how high my fever is."
Though Mandrake knew Lothar would have to repair his bionic arm from Circe squeezing it as hard as she did it could wait till later as Mandrake, in a soothing tone, said "Shh. It's okay, Circe. I know you don't feel comfortable around strangers but Devita just wants to help you." Circe was so nervous her eight stubby spider legs had extended from her back till they were long enough that they were peaking out from the thermal blanket while shaking like maracas.

Ouch. That really stung. Devita's facial muscles tensed, and if this were an anime, one would expect to see veins bulging out on her forehead. However, she managed to control herself and just didn't say anything about Mandrake's words on professionalism.
The teasing of Lothar worked as a stress relief for Devita, then. It also led to a conversation that softened her expression. "Having friends for that long," she mused wistfully. "That must be nice. I-I mean... well... I'm happy for you two to be so lucky!" She quickly returned to a semblance of her more jovial self.
"Okay Circe... I promise I will do what I can to help, and won't do anything bad or that you don't want me to do." With those reassurances, Devita hopped closer to Circe, lifting her right wing to gently touch her patient's face to judge the warmth. "Okay... you're doing great, dear. Thank you for your cooperation."

Mandrake noticed he may have inadvertently made Devita angry judging by the look on her face and he then said "Devita, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off as insulting. I hope you can forgive me for my faux pas."
Lothar noticed her teasing was a means of stress relief but her words concerned him because he then asked "What's wrong, Devita? Do you not have any friends? If so that must be very lonely."
Circe's shaking did not cease and she remained silent as Devita approached her touching the young spiderling's face with her wing. When Devita said she was doing great, Mandrake reached over with his free hand and began to gently message one of Circe's spider legs. Though she was still nervous the shaking legs slowly began to disappear back beneath the thermal blanket until they had detracted back to their normal stubby size and were back underneath her cape out of sight again. "I'm relieved she didn't panic and try to run away. In her condition I doubt she'd be able to defend herself." Mandrake said breathing a sigh of relief.

Devita huffed, but shrugged off the stress - or at least pretended to. "Don't worry," she said casually. "I'm usually the one saying st- stuff that doesn't come out quite right. Everything is fine here!"
What wasn't fine was how transparent her sad musings were. She winced at Lothar's loneliness comments. "Tch. I wasn't trying to plead for sympathy or anything, you don't have to worry. It is just... well, never really had the opportunity to make friends that I was able to keep. If I was 'lucky' - " she said the word half-sarcastically - "to have made friends, it never lasted. But hey, I had a good long run with the clinic I trained with~"
Checking Circe's fever, examining her, pondering her symptoms, and the like took a little while. Eventually, Devita was ready to give her findings. "Okay... I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?"

Devita seemed to pretend to shrug things off but Mandrake wasn't going to say anything as he didn't want to come off as pushy. Taking note of how Devita winced at Lothar's words, Mandrake said "I guess the three of us have something in common then. Before Lothar and I met each other as children we didn't really have friends either and when we were separated we waited till we were rookies before seeking each other out. The loneliness was quite rough to endure as we searched for one another. Who knew our friendship would evolve to the point where we became a couple."
"Must of been a good clinic if you were happy learning there." Lothar said when she mentioned her training. Meanwhile Devita appeared to be pondering Circe's symptoms and then said she had good news and bad news which caused Mandrake and Lothar to exchange worried glances before looking back to the young one.
Now sounding concerned Mandrake asked "Is there something seriously wrong with Circe?"
Meanwhile Lothar moved over to Mandrake kneeling down placing a hand on the Wizardmon's shoulder before he said "Maybe we should have the good news first, Devita." As for Circe her shaking had stopped but her sapphire eyes were now wide with worry.

Devita raptly listened to Mandrake's words, eyes wide and mouth slightly open. She then closed both and tilted downwards. "Hm. That's... that is almost enough to make one believe in fate. Not quite enough, but almost. Perhaps I will run into old acquaintances myself."
She then found herself talking about her time in the clinic. How she was rescued by a Sorcerimon and Angemon who turned out to run a clinic for less-fortunate Digimon, how she worked hard to repay them, how they helped her get an education in the field, how she met patients that taught her this and that...
She blushed and shook hard. "Agh, what is it with you two and getting me to ramble and give away so much information on myself?"
Finally, the matter of the patient arrived. "Okay. The good news is, she's going to recover. Give her the herbs as instructed and keep an eye on her fever. If it doesn't go down in a couple days, or if it increases, get her to an actual hospital! The bad news... well, two things."
Devita looked them both in the eye, back and forth. "First. She's a new species of Digimon. She has one of a number of somewhat common illnesses, and she is reacting normally, but... I'd watch out for mutations. If you are feeling even a little sick, rush yourselves to the hospital. And probably stay quarantined for a few days after she feels better. I probably should too, but I'm pretty resistant. The other thing..."
Devita giggles and grins evilly. "The other bad news is the payment. I was going to raid your fridge as compensation for my time, but you don't seem to have one. So, you'll have to accept me as a guest for a while instead~"

Mandrake and Lothar quietly listened to Devita as she told them about how she was rescued by a pair of digimon who ran a clinic and how she worked there while they gave her the education she needed to pursue her field. Then Mandrake said "Maybe you will. Who knows, right? Maybe fate is real or it could just be a crazy string of coincidences. I don't presume to understand such things seeing as the only thing I know about fate is the brief visions I have gotten into the future."
Taking note of Devita blushing, Lothar decided turnabout was fair play as he smiled and said "Maybe you are falling for our natural charms." The teasing tone caught Mandrake by surprise causing the Wizardmon to let out an amused snort.
Mandrake and Lothar let out a sigh of relief when it seemed Circe was going to be just fine. As for Circe she made a face at the thought of taking herbs but otherwise said nothing. "It's a relief to know she will be alright and as for the potential for mutations, we'll also keep an eye out. I don't know if her mother's side of the family has any major issues but I know my side is know to be pretty healthy so her getting sick surprised us. Thanks for your help, Devita."
"I think we can handle treating you to dinner." Lothar said standing up before he said "I'll head into the woods for some food. I know there are meat apples native to these woods and with my sense of smell I shouldn't be long." With that Lothar moved off into the brush.
"As for the herbs, perhaps we can make them into some sort of tea to make it easier for Circe to take. Some medicinal herbs can be bitter." Mandrake suggested as Circe began to close her eyes since she was now calmer.

At Lothar's surprise joke, Devita also snorts, before bursting into a cackle. When she caught her breath, she giggled softly and replied "maybe I am! You're both too adorable~"
Diagnosis complete and news given, Devita's job was done. However, it looked like she wasn't leaving any time soon. She watched with a grin as Lothar left to find food. She pulled a list of ways to prepare the herbs out of her hat - some can be used as tea, others ground up and mixed with food, and so on. "Your description of Lothar was both spot-on," she told Mandrake while doing so and helping to prepare the herbs, "and did not do him justice. Of course, you are quite the Digimon yourself. You deserve each other..."
She then glared in a way she hoped was intimidating. "So never.... ever... hurt him or Circe." She then broke into a grin. "Kidding - well, half-kidding. I'm kidding about thinking you'd ever do anything to intentionally hurt either... but I'm serious about you never doing anything stupid to ruin what you have here. You've got a good thing here, an inspiration to me... so don't blow it, 'kay? All ya gotta do is just not be dumb, and I think your miracle family will last forever.

Devita seemed to be amused by Lothar's joke as, like Mandrake, first snorted but then burst out into a cackle. When she called them adorable a mischievous glint lit up in Mandrake's eyes before the Wizardmon playfully said "Guess your mother was right about saying you are adorable if someone we've just met also thinks the same. She is a very observant digimon."
"To be fair Mom thought you were also adorable but that's just how my mother can be sometimes." Lothar replied with a chuckle at Mandrake's statement.
"You're not the first one who has said that about myself and Lothar as both his parents and my father have told us the same thing." Mandrake said as he watched Devita pulled various things out of her hat before he asked "Is there any way I can help you out there, Devita?"
Mandrake smiled before he said "Believe me. I treasure Lothar and all of our children very much and would do anything for them."
