The Gravity of the Situation (Miya + Mantis)

Serena's current journey with her new Digimon partner, Gem the Gammamon, had been... largely uneventful, so far. Sure, she fought against an Aberrant Thunderballmon, went to the Digital World for the first time to meet Adrian and Gem's family (she had first visited via Trailmon; she and Gem both agreed the trip was magical,) they joined the Scions and took up a couple of cases for them. But mostly, aside from having the cute little Gem in her life now, she felt it was just the same as it always was.
Except now, she and Gem had access to the super-secret area of Netcafe Scion. She didn't appreciate it much since she didn't watch a lot of anime, but Gem was certainly having a fun time messing around, reading the manga and watching what he called "moving pictures" with Yuji and Kazuo when they were off the clock.
As for the moment though, Serena was sitting at one of the tables in the Chosen-only area of Cafe Scion, reading some kind of novel on her tablet that she had brought. Gem was off somewhere playing with other Digimon that would come and visit the cafe, giving Serena some time to enjoy her book and listen to the soothing piano music that she could hear coming from the speakers. Occasionally, the odd Digimon would walk past her table, and she still had to get used to that kind of sight, but she was fine nonetheless.
Still, the thought in the back of her head was telling her that she and Gem oughta take a Scion case soon. She didn't get paired to Gem so that the two of them could just hang out in a net-cafe all day, after all.
"Serena!"
Serena was taken out of the world of her book to the sound of her partner's voice. Looking to her left, she'd find Gem flying up to her sitting height, his blue eyes looking as bright as ever. Smiling, Serena locked her tablet and placed it on the table. "Gem, what's up? Weren't you playing with that lego Agumon that walked in earlier?"
"Serena, I'm hungry," Gem simply said, holding his belly with his hands.
Serena sighed, but smiled nonetheless, standing up from her chair. "Well, why don't we go to the vending machine and fix that, hm?" The vending machine in the Scion base had a wide variety of food options, ranging from the usual drinks, noodles, and udon you'd find in average machines, to things straight out of fast food restaurants like burgers and fries. "And maybe after we eat, we should find another case to tackle."
"Yeah!" Gem cheered, flying alongside Serena as she walked. "Case! Case! Case!"

A cafe for the Chosen...while it was hardly the first venue that Mantis had ever visited that was primarily geared towards the people in the know of the strange happenings within Japan? There was something about this particular one that felt...different to Ryouta's old cafe. The Kotemon did not see it as a sign to let his guard down, however. Not in the slightest.
So, that was why he was standing vigilantly while Miyako attempted to purchase some udon from a vending machine...with an associated drink. "Definitely got enough yen for this." She mused. "Do you." Mantis questioned, just as a familiar voice's cheering came by.
"Ah. Hello." Mantis greeted with a lift of his kote, while Miyako pulled out her udon/drink and turned towards those coming by. "Ah, Isono-san! Good afternoon!" Amid the junior high, Miyako wasn't really a well-known face, having gotten a late start in enrollment due to having been homeschooled up until that point. And she liked it like that. BUT.
She knew names. She was -very- good with names. "Didn't know you were...also in on this whole thing, what's this about cases?"

As Serena and Gem walked over to the vending machines, they would find two others there that were currently buying their own meals and drinks. And Serena recognized her right away, considering there were not many albino kids that went to her school. Miyako Isa was her name, a little first-year student at the junior high branch of Shibuya Academy, though she was surprised to see that she was... here, of all places. With a Digimon. Still, no reason to not give a proper greeting.
"Good afternoon, Mi-kun," Serena said with a smile, waving to her underclassman. "Yeah, I didn't know you were involved with Digimon, either." She then noticed the Digimon she was with... it looked like a little dinosaur that was just coming home from kendo practice. Serena also noticed how his speech sounded a lot like a text-to-speech program.
"Whoa! Cool stick!" Gem said to the Kotemon as he was observing the kendo stick. "My name's Gem, and I'm Serena Isono's Digimon partner! What's your name? And what kinda Digimon are you?"
"Don't overwhelm him, Gem," Serena said as she started selecting items from the vending machine. Unlike Miyako, who got more traditional Japanese meals, Serena opted to order two burgers and two sets of fries, with one lemonade for herself and one chocolate drink for Gem. Miyako was asking about what she meant by cases as Serena pulled out her food from the machine.
"Well, Gem and I are part of a team that basically helps out around Shibuya, like solving Digimon-based rumors and the like. We were going to go look for one after we finished eating. Would you two wanna join us?"

"The way things are, doesn't seem like most people would know unless they knew what to look for." Which they don't. It's funny like that. The Kotemon, despite seeming a touch annoyed, at least did answer Gem's questions--he struck him as on the younger side.
It was very difficult to truly fault kids for simple questions. "Praying Mantis--I'm a Kotemon. Fairly certain I'm one of the first given my age, but...No way to really tell." He shrugged. Of course, the team that Serena mentioned had sounded a LOT like the Scions, so Miyako had opted to take a shot in the dark.
"Scions?" A simple question. "Because if so, then that'd make us teammates--and no sense in letting teammates go off on their own for cases. So! Sure."

"You've got that part right," Serena said, referring to the part about most people not knowing. "Right when I found out Digimon existed, I also found out that our teacher was actually something called a Dorumon, and half the kids in the school also have Digivices, I guess. I'm not too upset about it though, since I got to meet this little marshmallow here." Serena then proceeded to rub the top of Gem's head, which got the Gammamon to giggle a little bit in response.
The Kotemon told Gem that his name was "Praying Mantis," and that he was a Kotemon. "Oh, does that mean you're really, really old or something?" Gem asked. "My parents are both really old, too. I'm not old, though. Oh, and I'm a Gammamon, too! They're supposed to have yellow eyes but I have blue eyes. See?"
"As you can see, he's a talker," Serena said, quickly trying to damage control the situation in the event that Mantis got really annoyed with this little Gammamon kid.
She was surprised to hear what Miyako said next, however; apparently, she too knew about the Scions, and was a part of them. "Either I'm dense or I'm just a walking coincidence attractor," she said, placing a hand on her face. "I guess I oughta go meet the other Scions so this doesn't happen again, huh?" At least Miyako agreed to join the two on searching for a Digimon case, so there was that.
Once Serena and Gem had finished their lunches, possibly even chatting with Miyako and Mantis for the duration to get to know them better, they would be hot on heading over to the case board. Nothing on there really seemed to catch their interest...
"Serena, what's gravity?" Gem suddenly asked.
"Huh? Well, it's more or less what keeps everything in the world on the ground. Why do you ask?"
Gem then pointed to a specific case in particular. "This one says it's going crazy."
Her curiosity aroused, Serena herself would take a look at this case. Sure enough, it was detailing a series of rumors about how in a certain part of the housing district had things floating in mid air at night without anything suspending them. Benches, trees, animals, you name it. But that wasn't what the case was about. It was actually about searching for missing persons that had gone and investigated this rumor for themselves, having been missing for days or even weeks.
"Mi-kun, look at this one," Serena said to her fellow Scion. "The other cases are pretty menial, but this one actually gives me the creeps. What do you think; should we check this one out?"
