Ryu nodded as he accepted the box flap containing Rai's contact info. If anything to satisfy Daten without letting him wander around the internet without his permission, it would be a miracle for him and his father.
When the Tamernet topic came up, Ryu hummed while grabbing another cookie from the bowl where his Kuramon was scarfing down. "I did sign up for Tamernet. I rarely post in the forums there, but most of them were very interesting to read. Plus, I get to see some Digimon I never seen before in their profiles, which I'm surprised they can do so by themselves."
This made him wonder if his Kuramon has an ability to sign up for Tamernet when he turned his head away from him even for a few seconds. He could also see a bit of mischief in Daten's eyes when he was eating the cookies.
"Besides, ever since I discovered my Dad is a Tamer, we used the Tamernet often when texting isn't enough or while we're traveling in the Digital World. Though he keeps insisting me we should get a radio for privacy or something."

Rai's eyes widened slightly. "Wow... your Dad is a Tamer? My parents are just bakers." he'd never seen or heard of any Tamer old enough to be a parent. He hadn't necessarily thought they were -all- teenagers and school children, but he'd assumed it was pretty localized within their generation. Apparently not though.
"I have a Digi-FM installed myself. Its helpful sometimes for searching for other Tamer's nearby, but the reason you should definitely have one is so you can send an SOS signal," he said presenting his D3 and pointing to the attachment in question, "In case you and Daten are out of your league, lost, or badly hurt in the middle of nowhere."
"Being able to send an SOS signal has saved our lives once already." Rai said with a serious edge to his otherwise neutral voice.
"That was a bad time... but followed by good! We met new friends! Alucard and Poseidon, yes yes!" Y2K exclaimed cheerfully, practically bobbling his head.
"You nearly died. I nearly died. We both nearly died." Rai said flatly to his 'cat'. "I'd call that more than a 'bad time'."
"But after it was a good time! Thanks to Alucard and Poseidon! Kekeke!" Y2K swished his cat tail as he cackled with positivity.

Ryu sheepishly chuckled when Rai commented about his father. "Yeah. We're just as surprised as you when we found him in the Digital World. But unlike us, he has two Digimon instead of one."
Yep! One is a small yellow dinosaur and another is a strange Digimon who likes smacking anyone with a wooden stick!
"That's wooden sword, Daten," Ryu corrected. "But other than that, both of them are very chill after we took care of some misunderstandings. It's not enough to see him as a cool Dad, but enough for me to forgive him a bit. Long story."
Then, there was a Digi-FM Rai mentioned. "Huh. Not a bad idea. We did see one cheap at the shop, so I might buy it on our next visit."
No more stranding in the snow anymore!
Ryu smiled as he saw Daten's text and was relieved to hear about this. "Not only that, they had a lot of useful equipment and Digivice apps available. I wish I could have bought them all. But sadly, my allowance isn't infinite..."
Sad, sad...

"Well... I've invested in the Digi-Port Alpha---sounds ideal for an escape but it doesn't work if you're in no condition to step or hop through it--and before you think of crawling... its not quite ground level, You just aint using it if you can barely move... unless Datten can carry you--, the Holosuit, V-Pet, the Improved Scanner..." listing them off by counting his remaining Pocky.
He paused and put down the Pocky sticks, "...and most recently the Light Screen--that's a deployable shield for you, the Tamer, that will take a round of three Rookie attacks... and a single Champion shot if you're lucky enough to use it before it'll break. And the Light Baton, another Tamer self-defense item if you ever need it. It'll extend from the Digivice and... well its enough to make a Rookie smart if you use it right, but that's about it."
Rai leaned forward conspiratorially.
"Nothing there is gonna let you fight a Champion without... well without Datten digivolving to Champion--Big floating, armored chrysalis with scary blade-tendrils if he's gonna be like Y2K. Might wanna practice manipulating something that isn't you without cutting it up before trying to get this guy to carry you." Rai, -covertly as he could manage- showed Ryu the scanner data and image of Chrysalimon with his digivice.
"One last thing... and I've been assured by more than one person, that nurture versus nature here-- raising them right and having a good bond-- will ultimately make this either manageable or potentially even not an issue..." he lowered voice further, clearly not quite comfortable with the subject.
"But one of the first things I was ever warned about is our little buddies--Kuramon? In nature, have a... strong predisposition towards megalomania and destruction when they reach their higher levels... especially Mega." he warned grimly.
"Don't let that be Datten... I'm sure trying to avoid that with Y2K." with that, he finally leaned and settled back in his seat, like a normal person. He was looking at his 'cat' with a blank, brooding look, as if now that he brought it up, he couldn't help but think about it.

As Rai list off the equipment and apps, Ryu and Daten stopped to stare at him, mostly out of disbelieved of the number of items as well as horror of it.
Too many! Too many! Error! Error!
"Please don't..." Ryu quietly muttered before he cleared his throat. "But seriously, that's a lot for me to buy. If I can afford them, it might be a miracle. Well, except the Holo-Suit, it's still pending if Daten likes it."
I like my form better!
Ryu sighed. "I'll see if having Dad helping me might change his mind. Don't worry about me."
Then, another topic came another. Ryu was surprised not only to see Daten's potential Champion form from Rai's Digivice, but surprised when he warned him about him and Y2K might become dangerous if they evolved further. He couldn't believe it, yet he recalled that their species revolved around eating data. If that was true, then...
I won't become a bad guy!
Ryu quickly shook his head, snapping out from those thoughts once he heard the ping and saw his Kuramon's text.
I like data, but I don't like messing computers! It will make everyone sad. That's what Ryu said!
Ryu was surprised. Despite his rough beginnings with him, he did everything to make the Digimon he knew as Daten today. Smiling, he turned to Rai. "Daten's right. I have a responsibility to keep an eye on him. I originally thought of him as a pet. But once we texted each other, play together, and fought together, he became my surrogate brother and partner. If he does go rogue and tries to destroy Shibuya willingly or not, I'll make sure he will get a big punishment of the lifetime with my own hands."
He then stood up and put his hand on his chest. "That's my vow as Daten's Tamer."

Datten didn't even like messing with computers? That had to be some kind of promising. But it was Ryu's words what caused him to give the young tamer a blank, almost dead stare of doubt. If Datten Digivolved to Ultimate or Mega and went on a rampage... Ryu was gonna punish him with his own hands... that sounded completely ridiculous. "Well you have the right spirit."
For that matter Rai considered if it was possible to digivolve to high levels in the human world. He felt like that would make the news a lot more--and it didn't. He pondered if either the data-magic wasn't strong enough on this side, Digimon in general knew better for some reason, or if the agency doing cover-ups were a lot better than he gave them credit for...
"Anyway, I've said what I can think of to say. Feel free to stop by and such. And get in touch about the e-mail box set up when you have your Dad's go ahead." Rai stood up. "Oh and it would be totally cool if you let me know when Datten Digivolves to Champ. We could plan spar-play times for them." he said with a smile that barely seemed to reach the eyes of an otherwise blank expression.

In all honestly, Ryu has no idea how he would able to stop Daten if he evolved into Mega and go on a rampage all by himself. But his vow was genuine. He already cared for his Kuramon enough as a pseudo-younger brother already and he won't let him go to the dark side no matter what.
Eventually, Ryu and Daten finished the cookies together and they got off the table once Rai and Y2K did the same. "We'll let you know once we got his answer," he answered with a nod. "And sure! Daten will need some training once he goes Champion for real. We got a Digi-Egg though, so I don't know if it might not count as a real one. If you have one though, I'm willing for that kind of spar."
I'm waiting to see who will be the best!
Ryu grinned as he patted his Kuramon on his shoulder. "Well, see you next time, Rai!"
Bye, bye! See you again!
The boy and his Kuramon left the bakery with their new purchases on hand after waving goodbye to the two. "Rai Ryuichi, huh?" Ryu muttered to himself. "He's an interesting guy despite us having the same Digimon."
But you like me, too, right?
Rai grinned at the text message. "Yeah. Hope we can have fun adventures together real soon."

So Ryu and Datten had a Digi-Egg? That would be helpful.
Rai smirked, he was sure knowing these two was going to be interesting. "I got an Armor Digi-Egg too. Maybe we'll plan that play-date sooner rather than later. Take care Ryu."
"Bye Byyye!" called Y2K before Rai put a hand over his mouth. Too loud! Y2K however persisted with a muffled "Bye new friends! Bye Ryu, bye Datten!"
With that Rai walked back towards the Bakery and started calling attention to it again, as if his morning hadn't changed. "Daily special on chocolate cookies! Buy two cookies and get one of our ganache filled cupcakes half off!"
