"You have came," an eccentric looking person in a neat suit befitting of a teacher greeted as the missiongoers entered the place of meeting, a cafe about a block or two away from the mission target. "I'm thankful for your quick response to my plight. I'll cut the chase: I apologize greatly that it must came to this, but honestly, I was out of my depth. This is... something that might not be Digimon at all, at least from the way I see it."
He glanced at the apartment in question while taking out some documents. He distrubuted the document's copies to each unit of the team. "I think you have read my message regarding the target building. First, let me just say that... from what I have gleaned about the building's history, there have not been any supernatural, creepy stuff that could be pinpointed as the reason for the building being deemed as haunted. Not only that, there has not been any cases of kodokushi, a case where someone died and was not discovered for a long time. There have not been any case of unaliving either, whether homicide or suicide... By the way in case of such a violent incident happend, any building must report it to the police. So I don't think there's any tampering done."
Slowly, the teacher looked up to look at the team.
"...Yet strangely, there is a feeling that lingers there... like... there is something undoubtedly evil. I don't understand what, or know what... There are various theories that I could propose such as a very strong kind of kotodama that started as a rumor that got wild and becoming opressive as it grew stronger. My hope was that it would be a Digimon, who took residence there and it's of the ghost kind.... but honestly, I doubt it. The digital signal inside of that place doesn't feel abnormal. The building itself wasn't old at all and it was quite new! Which, my dear responders, are the reason for this headscratching situation.
...Anyway, do you have any question?"

A snow white wolf that could easily be mistooken for a dog made its way towards the meeting place stopping near a cafe a block or two from the target. Once she was out of sight of humans she dedigivolved back into human form and made her way into the cafe. Stacy looked around before spotting what appeared to be a teacher and approached him with a polite wave as he explained how the situation at hand might not be a digimon before distributing some documents. Stacy clumsily took hold of the documents handed to her but did not drop them before taking a look at them herself all while listening to the man.
The spirit that Stacy drew her strength from was giving her the feeling something may not be right with the building but, though the spirit could communicate now, the spirit didn't speak to the woman's mind. "With all due respect sir. Just because the digital signal seems normal doesn't mean that an oppressive digimon is not a possibility. I have learned the hard way that some digimon can be craftier than some think." Hearing the building wasn't old did make things more baffling but maybe if she could digivolve inside the building she might be able to catch some scent that could help them out.
When asked if there were any questions, Stacy replied "Just one. How long have these problems been going on?"

Post by Serena & Gem on Mar 20, 2023 3:58:22 GMT
Serena was one of the first to hear about the middle school teacher, Lux Caldwell's, call for help. It wasn't until recently that she had been paired with her partner Gem, and learned that Lux was actually a Digimon known as Hikaru, the king of the city of Ys. He had helped her get through the starting hurdle in her Digital World journeys, so it only felt right that she and Gem would help him out with this situation. Plus, they were Scions now, so rumors like this were right up their alley.
Serena politely waved to Caldwell as she entered the cafe, seeing him sitting at one of the tables close to the entrance. Like Lux had warned, she had a bag with her full of prepared bento boxes and drinks for her and Gem. Gem himself, of course, was inside of Serena's Digivice with the V-Pet function. Along with him was another older woman with brown hair, likely in her forties. As Serena and the other potential mission-goers sat down, Lux apologized that it had to come to this. "It's okay, Lux-sensei, really," Serena said. "If it's really that bad, then I want to help. And I'm sure the others here agree."
Of course, it surprised Serena when Lux said the problem may not even be Digimon related. He pulled out some documents and looked them over, informing the team that there wasn't any supernatural stuff involved with the apartment building in question that could be used as the reason for why the kids went missing. No cases of kodokushi, no cases of homicide or suicide, either. "Would humans really do that to each other?" Gem asked in an innocent tone.
"Yeah, sometimes," Serena quietly responded to the Gammamon. "But like Lux said, nothing like that happened here."
Nothing violent like that. But Lux believed that there was something evil inside that building, though he didn't know what it was. A theory he proposed was that it was a very strong kind of kotodama that started out as a rumor gone wild. "What does kotodama mean?"
"It means the spirit of the words. It's supposed to be like, say, how when you repeat something enough, it'll become true," Serena said to her partner. She then looked back over at Lux. "You don't actually believe something like that would be true, would you, Lux-sensei? What kind of evil would be repeated over and over like that? And like what she said-" Serena referred to Stacy, "-just because there's no abnormal signature doesn't mean it can't be a Digimon."
What made the situation even more strange was that the building itself was relatively new. How could rumors about it spread that fast for kotodama to take place? Honestly, Serena was willing to start believing anything strange at this point, but there still had to be a reason why the occult club members never left the building...
Did they have any questions? "I do have one. You mentioned the rumor about the elevator in your message. Having to press a certain button combination at a certain time of day and all that. Would you happen the know what the time or the sequence would be?"

Post by Hotaru Inoue on Mar 22, 2023 8:48:31 GMT
Hotaru yawned as the "mission briefing" was underway. People were asking questions, but it wasn't like Hotaru had any of her own. She hadn't figured that she'd be brought in for the whole "partner's rooms-for-favors" deal she had worked out with that obnoxiously buff middle schooler. But Hotaru was a girl of her word, for better or for worse. You can imagine which of the two Hotaru thought this was. "So we're using our pet alien cyber-monsters to try and get rid of what are hopefully alien cyber-ghosts, if not real ghosts, then see if we can find some missing kids, alive or otherwise. Seems simple enough," Hotaru stated, glancing around at her teammates. A bunch of kids and... someone who, at her age, probably shouldn't be hanging out with a bunch of children so much, but enough about Arisa. Oh yeah, and some old-ish gal named Stacy was there, too. Hotaru had to wondered if how much her patience would be tested if the baby Gammamon kept asking basic questions all day. Seriously, who would even consider bringing a small child to something like thi-Her thoughts were interrupted when Elly, a seven-year-old girl with long blond pigtails, tugged on Hotaru's sleeve to get her attention. She passed Hotaru a note signed by Misaki. Hotaru-chan
Sakura seems to have gotten a stomachache at the thought of a paranormal investigation. I don't think she'll be of much help. Momo, Midori, and I are looking after her for the time being. Emily is exceedingly giddy to assist you, and began quoting that one foreign film about catching ghosts. She said something about having to go pick up supplies. Have fun with your mission, and remember to be careful! If you discover a dead body, call the police and don't tamper with any evidence. Most of the time the person reporting the body is the culprit so don't be surprised if you're suspected by the police!
~Misaki
P.S. We baked you cookies for good luck! Remember to share them with your friends!
Hotaru frowned as she crumpled up the letter and looked up to see Elly holding out a big box full of sugar cookies, each one vaguely shaped like traditional protection charm, with various phrases like "good luck", "stay safe", and "do your best!" written onto them in sprinkled cinnamon. So... yeah. Cookies for everyone. And if anyone decided to dig into those, Arisa raised her hand with a request of her own in her usual, cheerful tone, "I would be liking to know the names of all the missing kids, and what they are looking like, please!" Meanwhile, a block or two away from the cafe, there was a solitary, figure. This legendary person, this incredible, adorable, and outright stunning little girl by the name of Matsuri Usatora was already waiting outside for everyone to arrive, having no need for a meeting beforehand.
And definitely not because she may or may not have have dined and ditched at that particular cafe once or twice before. She was dressed in a pure black suit and tie, complete with dark shades. Honestly, it looked like she was going after aliens more so than ghosts. However, Matsuri had a surprise in store for her comrades. Because lined inside of her suit's jacket, there were pine-scented air fresheners helping mask the homeless girl's incredible... odorous presence.
At the legendary figure's feet were a pair of suspiciously digimon-like cats. Present in Cafe: Hotaru Inoue the Grumpy (Mood: Grumpy) Elly the Shoutmon (HS) Arisa the Morphomon (HS)
Elsewhere Emmy the Terriermon (HS) Matsuri the Agumon (HS) Reiko (Tailmon) Annika (B. Tailmon)

Post by Miyako + Mantis on Apr 11, 2023 7:14:56 GMT
It was just coming onto school grounds after hours, yet Miyako had elected to dress in such a way that nobody'd really realize it was her unless they were VERY astute with noting her mannerisms down. Except it was all for nothing, because despite being clad in shorts, a hoodie, leggings and -shades-, Miyako had left her hood down.
So she was extremely recognizable as she came into the Cafe, waving at Hotaru and Serena as she made to sit down with Lux--listening carefully. "...It's no issue. Genuinely." A simple bit of reassurance as she kept her ears opened.
They had all pretty much asked all the questions Miyako was going to ask. "...Are there any noises associated with this presence? Odors? Visual cues?" But that one...
