"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon..."
Kazemaru sat at Cat Street's arcade, smashing away at one of the fighting games. Adrenaline melted away at his nerves as he pressed the buttons more and more vigorously.
His fingers moved faster, matching a rhythmic pattern. Sweat poured down his nape, his nerves were reaching their limit, and his vision was becoming blurry. He was going as fast as he could go, the very limit of his ability, but he was still to slow. By the time he could execute a move, the opponent had countered and started a combo. He couldn't even see the attacks coming and was pummeled from every side. Not even the utmost concentration and prediction made up for his poor reflexes, and within moments fanfare played from the machine, the words "You Lose" printed in large blue letters.
"Haa..."
Kazemaru let out his withheld breath, and slumped down onto the bench. His heartbeat had reached an alarming pace and he was slightly dizzy from the frenzied play. Orange light bounced off of the monitor screen, signalling that it was getting late. He would soon have to leave to return home.
However, a deep frustration had been buried deep in his heart. This frustration stemmed from two causes: first, his several losses at the fighting game, and second, his inability to forget the strange egg that he had hid in his home closet. There was no way he could go home with this bitter feeling in his chest.
A quick glance to the clock informed him of his remaining time. He noticed that his previous opponent had already left, probably feeling smug from his easy victory.
"One more game... just one more..." Kazemaru promised himself, and leaned back onto the machine, awaiting an opponent.

The arcade. Ann loved it. The buzzzing of all those weird games everywhere, the flashing noises, the environmental music...she just loved it all.
"That's how we look from the outside?" Treat asked , watching the game Ann was playing.
"No, it's just a game, don't worry Treat you're really cool. You don't look like a bunch of squares." Ann replied, smiling at him. In his in-training form, Treat blended in with her blond hair and the orange of the arcade's walls, so he wasn't easy to see.
"Ok, my princess. Hum...what is it were doing here?" Treat inquired
"Having fun!"
"I see..."
Treat didn`t want to tell Ann he wasn`t having any fun at all, he was just plain bored. Still, if she was happy, he shouldn`t get in the way for his own sake. That would be simply selfish.
Ann was in fact, really happy. It had been a while since coming to the árcade gave her any pleasure. Her brother used to take her to an árcade every week, before he...had his boat accident, as her parents called it at the time they finnaly told her. Ever since the árcade only brought pain. But not now, not with Treat. The little digimon on her shoulder, he just brought back her joy for life. What more could she ask?

As Kazemaru readied himself for another game, a soft beeping caught his ear. He didn't pay the sound much attention at first, but it soon passed the threshold of tolerance. The slight rhythmic beat mismatched his own increasing heart rate, causing an annoying difference between the two paces.
"C'mon, can't a guy concentrate?" He mumbled to himself and took a look around to find the culprit.
However, much to his surprise, nobody seemed to be the cause of the noise. There were very little people left in the arcade, including the staff. There were a few teens hitting the racing games but they produced no noise other then their cackling laughter. There was also a little girl playing by herself, and also seemingly talking to herself, but Kazemaru paid her no attention.
"Wait... if no one here is causing the noise..." Kazemaru's gears started running and he eventually realized that the cause of the sound may have been coming from him. Immediately, he pulled out his phone... except what was in his pocket was not a phone but rather a black and blue device he had never seen before. Its screen showed a graph, with a white dot fading in and out near the center of the screen.
"W-what is this? Why is it in my pocket?" Kazemaru was utterly baffled.

"Yes, I won again!" Ann bragged, with the joy of victory showing in her wide smile, her loud tone and he raised arms, which almost pushed Treat off her shoulder, forcing him to hold on by her neck. "Oh, sorry Treat. Here, let me help you. Now, should I play another one?"
"If you wish so, my princess." Treat replied, trying to smile back, despite having gotten hit hard by raised arms, right in the face. Ann prepared to put in another coin, but something ticked in Treat "Wait, my princess. I sense something."
"What is it?" Ann asked, curious.
"I think there`s a digivice close. Very close." Treat answered. He looked straight at another player, and Ann got the meanong of it. Standing, she put Treat into her pocket, with little resistance from him, as he was used to it. She then approached the boy who was at the other game.
"Hi there!" she greeted him "Could I talk to you private, please?"
He was trying to give a bright smile, something charming to convence him to talk to her in private. If he wasn`t convinced then Treat would take plan B: pop out of the pocket to psuh the guy`s curiosity.

As Kazemaru puzzled over the foreign device, the girl he saw earlier had approached him
"Hi there! Could I talk to you private, please?"
Kazemaru quickly gave her a swift scan. She was short, probably in her second year of elementary school. Not to mention her pale skin and blond hair, she was an obvious foreigner. A little foreign girl was not something Kazemaru encountered often.
Kazemaru didn't like children, as he felt their innocence hid a brutality unabated by conscious morality. Regardless though, he beamed as he turned to her, stuffing the device into his pocket.
"Yes, is something wrong, miss?"
He smiled and spoke politely, but in that condescending tone that adults would use on little kids.

The man turned to her, pocketing something as he smiled at her and spoke politly.Ann could bet she knew what it was.
"Listen, mister, do you happen to have one of these?" Ann took out her digivice to show it to the man. "Now, can we speak in private? Like, REALLY private and not in the middle of the ARCADE?"
Without waiting, Ann simply got off and walked out to the street. She turned in na alley, and saw if the man was following her.

"Listen, mister, do you happen to have one of these?"
Kazemaru listened to the girl as she pulled out a device similar to his. At first, he was shocked by the appearance of the device, which seemed to be less rare than he thought it was. However, the surprise soon faded away, as he rationalized the scenario.
In fantasy stories where the main character uncovered a mysterious object, it would no doubt be explained to him soon after by someone knowledgeable in the topic. It was only due course that he would somehow learn of its mysterious origins. What surprised him was that his informant was the little girl.
"Now, can we speak in private? Like, REALLY private and not in the middle of the ARCADE?"
Without waiting for his reply, the girl left and walked out onto the street. At this point, Kazemaru had two options.
"I can follow her and hear what she has to say... or run away right now, to be safe."
He debated the options for a few seconds, weighing the pros and cons. Curiosity won, though, and he stood up to follow her. He felt like he needed to discover the mystery of the device, which might be related to the giant egg that had appeared in his room. Besides, if anything bad happens, he could run... hopefully. There was no denying that the whole situation seemed shady.
As he moved out to the street, a worry of what people would think of a teenage boy chasing after a little girl, but he got rid of the thought. Since when did he care what others thought of him?
Following her into an alley, he finally spoke up, since they had acquired the privacy that the girl desired. All the while, he checked the surroundings, looking out for someone awaiting the chance to jump on him.
"So? What did you want to discuss with me, little lady?"

The worst part about palms is waiting. Everytime someone plans something they have to wait for whatever is to trigger the action. And waiting.Is.Exasperating. Yet, Ann had to wait and be patient, one shouldn't rush this kind if things of she might get caught with Treat. Still what if it was pointless to wait and the guy simply wasn't coming?
Her patience was rewarded as the guy arrived from the arcade, still checking to make sure they were in privacy.
"Introductions first, don't you think? It's far more polite. I'm Ann and this..." Ann replied and she reached out to her pocket lulling out Treat."...Is Treat. Your name is?"
"Hi." the worm-like digimon said, a little embarassed on the way he was being held by Ann. "Who's your partner?"
"Where's your digivice? Treat sensed it in the arcade, so I know you have one. I even bet it is the thing you pocketed when I came to you, isn't it?" Ann asked, trying her best to sound smart.
"Hm, my princess, could I just go to your shoulder?" Treat requested.
"Yeah sure." Ann replied, putting the worm digimon to her shoulder, were he would stand without having to be held.

Kazemaru faced the girl believed he was ready for anything. If she was a drug dealer, trying to sell him her products? Ready. Gang member trying to recruit him? Ready. Time traveler from the future? Ready. Heck, he even considered the possibility of her being God, as far stretched as that was. He was sure nothing could surprise him...
"Introductions first, don't you think? It's far more polite. I'm Ann and this..."
The girl started properly introducing herself. She reached into her pocket and...
."...Is Treat. Your name is?"
Pulled out an over-sized yellow and orange worm...
"Okay, didn't expect a monster. You beat me, God. You beat me..." Kazemaru grimaced, more disturbed than shocked. No, he was beyond being shocked. Too many mysterious things had happened today to shock him.
He didn't answer her question and allowed her to continue, being bombarded by even more questions. Instead, he let her finish and began gathering his thoughts, collecting the data he had just been given. He clutched his head for ten long seconds, signalling for Ann to not interrupt him before he finished thinking.
Finally, he raised his head.
"Hold it, for a sec. I have a few questions to ask. First, what is... that?" He motioned to Treat. "Second, by digivice, are you referring to the device I found in my pocket? If so, may I ask what this device is. If not, then what is a digivice? Finally, who are you to know all this information?"

The guy was indeed quiet as he waited for her to finish. Then and only then he launched his questions. Still, Ann was a bit upset.
"You DIDN'T INTRODUCE YOURSELF!" She almost screamed at him "That was rude!"
"Hum...my princess, please calm down. It's irrelevant right now." Treat tried to calm Ann. It sorta worked "I'm sorry, we shall answer your questions now, especially since you are clearly new at this afterall. I am a digimon, short for digital monster. I come from a place called the digital world and am Ann's partner and she's my tamer. As for your digivice...Ann? Could you show him your's again?"
Ann took out her digivice again.
"If it looks like this, then it's a digivice. It serves for a series of things, but the most important is that it helps a tamer use his or her emotions to digivolve a digimon. Like this..." Ann explained. The digivice began glowing.
Treat jumped of her shoulder landing between her and the boy. He started glowing too and transformed into the blue puppy with binocules known as "Roardmon".

The girl was evidently mad that Kazemaru didn't introduce himself, but the boy paid no attention to her frustration. More importantly, he absorbed the information that she gave him, nodding along as the worm named Treat explained what it was and what the mysterious device was.
"So this a digivice, huh?" Kazemaru pulled out his own digivice and stared at it, as if the device would start talking on its own.
It was then that Treat leaped off of Ann's shoulder... and became a blue, goggled dog.
"Woah!" Kazemaru couldn't help but jump back in surprise as "Roardmon" appeared. These digimon things were full of surprises, including, apprently, the ability to transform. The question of how a worm transformed into a dog crossed his mind, but he slapped it away. He didn't want Darwin rolling in his grave.
"So you can transform huh? Neat." Kazemaru nodded, trying to shake off the surprise. It was a lot of information to take in, so his mind was slowly digesting it. This elongated process, however, served to help ease the total shock of the crazy revelation.
However, something bothered him about Treat's brief explanation.
"Hold on a second. There's something not right about your explanation." Kazemaru spoke up. "You say the digivice helps a digimon evolve, and Ann's your tamer. However, if that is the case, where is my so-called digimon partner?"

"Yep, that's a digivice." Ann replied to the guy, still a bit angry , as he took the device from his pocket, seeming to be admiring it"But amseriously, what's your name?"
Treat's digivolution seemed to take the boy by suprise, making jump back with the sudden transformation.
"Quiet! You want to warn everyone in this city about me?" Treat complained. The boy gave a comment on how "neat" it was that Treat could transform himself. "Well, thank you."
"You should have seen him at his fresh stage. He just looked SO cute!" Ann commented, causing a sort of blush from Treat with his embarassment. Then the guy asked where his partner was.
""If we knew, we wouldn't have asked that to you..." Treat replied "But if you are new at this, then he or she might still be a digiegg. Have you got any randomly showing up oversized colored egg appear somewhere near you recently?"

"If we knew, we wouldn't have asked that to you...But if you are new at this, then he or she might still be a digiegg. Have you got any randomly showing up oversized colored egg appear somewhere near you recently?"
Kazemaru, who had been taking in the revealed information surprisingly smoothly so far, stopped at Treat's reply. His brain, perhaps out of instinct, froze to scan over the reply.
Now, just where did he happen to see an oversized colored egg recently? Why, of course, only recently did the egg appear in his room. What was in the egg? The digital monster that the little girl and worm/dog had explained to him about. That's right a monster. Now, where was the egg currently? In his closet... at home... where his parents where...
Put the pieces together and...
There was an egg that might hatch at any time in his house where his parents were.
"Crap. This isn't gonna end well is it..." He admonished, reaching the not so desirable conclusion of his thoughts.
Immediately, the desire to rush home overcame him, and he was already turning to run, before remembering the girl tamer.
"Um... thanks for the info but I-uh-something came up so..." He rambled quickly, using hand motions and body language to try to convey his increasing desire to leave.

For a few moments, the guy seemed thoughtfull. What could be on his mind? Was he trying to recall if he saw the kind of egg Treat described?
The following comment and urge to leave gave a lot away.
"Hum, my princess, I think he made a poor choice on where to put the egg. We should let him go now." Treat suggested.
"Ok, but he could at least finnaly tell us his name." Ann complained. They looked at the guy, awaiting an answer "Then he can go."
When Kazemaru left, Treat devolved back to his in-training. He looked above and spotted Ann with a playfull smile.
"What is it my princess?" Treat asked, worried.
"Oh, nothing. But we might end up making a new friend. And I think we'll have so much fun at home...my little leafmon."
Treat swallowed in fear. Whatever she was up to when she went home could not mean good new for him. Or in the very least, to the remainings of his pride and dignity.
