A few of you know that I have a thing called Hylden Digimon, which I used in a couple sub-plots. I am putting this here for my benefit so I can remain consistent, and to let other interested/involved users read. However, I don't want to set everything in stone, as I want some leeway to allow for reasonable plot flexibility,
WHAT IS A HYLDEN DIGIMON:
It's a digimon from the Hylden Area. These digimon generally cannot live in the digital world and require hosts to possess. Without a host, they will simply break down into junk data. Whether the data is recycled or not is a crapshoot and requires a string of circumstance, and, generally, at best the corrupted data is recycled, but the digimon is not "reborn".
While a Hylden can partially possess a digimon, the host can eventually try to take over. Once that happens, the Hylden can assert his or her will upon the host, causing mutations.
Essentially, a Hylden can simply reside in a body, occasionally taking control, or fully take it over and mutating it due to it's foreign, mutant data.
WHAT IS THE HYLDEN AREA:
Think of it as a woefully framented partition of a computer. It is an area characterized by a greenish-yellow sky, pale yellow ground, fog, and rivers of junk data that look like thick yellow water. It's kind of like a yellow tinted Dark Area.
The area is rather caustic to ones data. Rookies and under suffer the most ill effects, being too weak to stand the area for too long. The amount of time varies, but they will ultimately succumb to death. However, some rookies can remain alive, although their bodies are warped and their minds are more or less gone.
Champion and over, however, need not fear this, although the area affects their bodies as well. There are various severities of mutations (barely any to more noticeable ones), but most digimon here do not have use of their special attacks. Conversely, their raw physical offense and defense raises greatly. This trait can be passed onto those they possess, even without asserting will.
HOW DID THEY GET HERE:
They were sent here many years ago. Who did it and why is unimportant as of now. While most are making due with living there, general consensus is that they would rather be in the digital world proper than the Hylden Area,
OTHER HYLDEN AREA INFO:
The Hylden Area is just that, an area. It's roughly the size of a medium sized state, and the thick fog borders loop upon themselves. Basically, you go out one end, come in through another.
Digimon who die in the Hylden Area actually die, permenantly. Their data has no village of beginnings to travel to, just the rivers of junk data.
DIGIMON WITH DIRECT INVOLVEMENT WITH HYLDEN:
Garm- Beverly's lover was mutated by a powerful Hylden. However, Garm currently has no Hylden in him.
Ghost- Beverly's "twin" and familiar, whom, after Bev sacrificed herself to kill the Hylden that went from Garm to take her over, absorbed enough of Bev's data and a good chunk of the Hylden that allowed Bev to be reborn with some of her strength, and Ghost became a Hylden/normal digimon hybrid.
M- Timmir's character, M is a digimon who possessed a Terriermon, Pure, for his own reasons. He resides in Pure's body, but does not wish to mutate it.
Vetina- The original Vetina was a Hylden digimon that became part of another digimon. But due to the nature of the data Vetina was prone to fits of rage and headaches, among other quirks. However, Vetina was the first to escape the Hylden Area, and shown other Hylden that escape was possible. Like Ghost, the original Vetina was a hybrid, and her data will prove useful to those who decide to take it from the current Vetina, as it does have some unique qualities about it...
WHY "HYLDEN" DIGIMON:
Because, despite the game being somewhat iffy, I liked they concept of the Hylden in Blood Omen 2.
