Hiro was sure that the trainer was crazy at this point. He heard the Mega threaten them with fire and he could feel it in his gut that Anhk was serious about the fire. He swallowed and picked up his pace just a little because he was not as fire resistant as Tetsu or any other Digimon.
"One more!" Tetsu cried out as he dashed past Hiro.
"Oi, Tetsu." Hiro called out, a bit winded but still going strong. His partner was breathing audibly and covered lightly in oil. The dragon paused and started to run in place as he looked back at his partner. Hiro jogged past Tetsu and cuffed him over the head. "Work smarter. Dig in."
Tetsu stopped and stared at his partner's back and thought about the words. He was passed by a bunch of cadets before the light bulb finally clicked on in his brain. He slapped a fist into his palm. "Oh~" The V-mon grinned and dashed to the final ramp. He slammed his foot into the ground and let his claws grab into the ramp for traction and leaped up the ramp.
Hiro stopped at the finish line and bent over to lean on his knees. He took a few deep breathes before standing back up and watching Tetsu dash over the finish line just before the time ran out.

Ankh then looked at the watch, and looks like, the time was over. He then blew the whistle to stop the training, and the cadets stopped. Looks like it was time for the next training. "EVERYBODY, THE TIME'S OUT! NOW GATHER BACK IN FRONT OF ME, FORM SIX LINES LIKE EARLIER!" Ankh shouted with his megaphone.
And so, the cadets gathered back in six lines. Now it was time to continue to the next part. Possibly, more thrilling one. The running track with oils was nothing compared to the next one, probably. Well, if Ankh was dreadful enough, then they should be aware what he would do next.
The Mega then examined the lines, and it wasn't tidy enough. Now it was time to tidy them back into shape. "A TEEEEEEEEEN~ HUT!!!" Ankh shouted, ordering the cadets to be in standby position. After that, he ordered, "At close interval, DRESS RIGHT, DRESS!" The cadets then dressed to their right, at close interval, only with elbows-to-elbows. After the lines were straightened up... "READY FRONT!"
The trainees then went back into standby position. So, they were going to move to the next area. Perhaps, it would be mo dangerous and daring than that one? Who knows. But for sure, they were still in harsh training, so expect it to be jarring. "Alright. Now we're going to move into the next area. Watch your back, as it will be more, even more difficult than this. This is nothing compared to the next one. For now, you can rest for 10 minutes. SIT AT EASE, HUT!"
By Ankh's order, the cadets than sat, enjoying their break for5 minutes, for mental preparation.

Hiro groaned audibly at the comment that the next track would be worse. The ramp track had been simple in theory but application had been tricky. Maintaining his balance on such slippery ground especially one angled like that was hard enough, he didn't want to think about what would be worse. His mind was already supplying him with ridiculous imagery like snake ropes or climbing a wall while fire rose up to keep them motivated.
"No sweat." Tetsu said happily, though his attempt to cross his arms failed when they slipped out of position because of the oil all over his body. He pouted as he looked at all the oil. "Ew... I feel all slimy."
"That's what you get for being all bull rushing the course." Hiro swatted Tetsu on the head again. "You got to think a bit more, little buddy."
"That's what I have you for, Hiro." Tetsu smiled brightly up at his human partner. "See, even when I was messing up you found me a way to get up the ramps."
Hiro just sighed at that. He couldn't exactly refute that claim. It was how they worked. He provided the tactics and Tetsu put them to work. "Don't make me do all the work. You've got instincts and I know you have a brain in that head of yours even if you abuse it to hell with all the headbutts, so use them."
"Aww... but it's easy to listen to you." Tetsu whined.
"We're here to grow. If I have to suffer physical effort, you're suffering mental ones." Hiro shot back. It was only fair. The boy and his dragon sighed together in lieu of their future suffering and shuffled back into line.

Alright. Looks like this was settled nicely. After 5 minutes, it was time to move to the next area, for real. Hopefully, the cadets had prepared mentally in case things go south. They were prepared, and so, they couldn't hold back. So, there was no reason to pull out, as the training has just begun. And so, Ankh instructed them back... "A TEEEEN~ HUT!" Ankh instructed the trainees to stand up back into standby position. Well, looks like even the cadets were a bit shocked when they imagined what kind of training they would do next. Perhaps even scarier, or even more dangerous. Ankh could see the look of their fears in their eyes, and in fact, it made Ankh think how could they do to surpass this challenge. "ABOUT FACE, HUT!" Ankh instructed the group to turn around clockwise, and it was the begin of mobilization to the next area. "Alright. Now we're gonna mobilize to the next area. Mobilization begins from the line from your leftmost! Mobilization begins, now! Move, move, move!"The cadets then mobilized to the next area, led by Ankh. After some time, the croup then arrived at the new area. It was a meadow and a hill, and there was a big, huge, gigantic block. It wasn't just a block in fact. It was a Chrome Digizoid block, which was heavy enough to pull, given the chain binding around them, and six chains on the ground. The group then formed line again as previously done. "Alright. In the next training, you all will pull the Chrome Digizoid block up to the hill, and I want you to pull it together. I know you all still feel slimy from the oil you ran from earlier, but that's not reason for you to give up. You're men, and you're tough, I know that. So, pull the block and BE A MAN!" Ankh gave out the speech and explanation about the next training. "SIR, YES SIR!" However, there was worse: There was mines scattered around the hill, and everybody barely saw that. So, they must pull the block and watch out for the mines. Well, it was fine to have the Chrome Digizoid to grind the mines, since it was strong enough to resist explosions from mine detonation. The problem is, with that heavy block, how they could pull it? Or, how they could...?

Hiro looked at the graceful hills and then over to the obstacle that they needed to move. He recognized Chrome Digizoid thanks to reading a bunch of entries on the Digital Analyzer and asking Tetsu some questions about the short blurbs on the some of the higher level Digimon. It was the strongest, and hardest metal in the Digital World. It was also pretty heavy unless it was refined.
"O-kay... this may be a problem." Hiro rubbed the back of his head. He looked at the test straightforwardly at first and balked at the task. While they did have a good amount of Rookies it would be a struggle to move the metal block at any speed beyond glacier moving slowly across the tundra.
"Huh" Tetsu was looking at the block and trying to recall anything he knew about physics. He came up with little since he did most things by instinct. "So, we need to spread the force out?"
"That's as good of a start as any." Hiro said with a light sigh. He really couldn't think of any solution for this that didn't involve some outside force helping. "Let's see if we can get this anywhere."
Hiro lined up and talked to some of the Digimon to get them evenly spread out in the chains. He had most of the Digimon lined up towards the block to pull backwards, but had those on the end of the chain facing forward to lead them hopefully away from any landmines.
"Well, let's see how heavy this thing is."
"Pull!"

Alright, looks like the training is begun. The trainees spread the chains, and then they divided the group evenly to make sure the distribution of strength was even. "Divide into six groups! We're gonna pull this heavy thing together!" A cadet ordered. And so, six lines, were divided to pull a chain each, as there were six chains. And then, they began pulling the heavy block.
"Pull!"
As Tetsu ordered them to pull, the others did so. And so, they pulled the block together. The block was really heavy, but with help with numerous Digimons (although all of them were rookies, they managed to move it few centimeters from a single pull. Although, it would take a while. Who could pull that heavy block, anyway?
And so, there were mines on the hill. Landmines. One step could cause an explosion. So, the trainees had to make sure they wouldn't go to step at one of those, or else they would be in danger. Fortunately, one of the trainees noticed this, and then... he warned them, "There's mines around! Watch your step!"
And so, as he warned, The cadets were avoiding mines as he instructed. With pulling heavy stuffs to the hill, expect they moved slowly. Though, it would easier for them to avoid landmines. But what if there were hidden ones, and a trainee wasn't sharp enough to notice it? It would be a trouble, BIG trouble. One mistake can ruin all, and it would be over.
Ankh watched the trainees as they were pulling the block. Hopefully they noticed that the training was more than just that... It wouldn't be thrilling without some elements of surprise. Those guys need to learn how to train a la Spartans, he thought.

No plan survives the battlefield. It was a standard lesson to give to those that make plans. Accidents, unseen complications and just plain bad luck can make any plan go bad. Hiro knew that and tried to keep his plans simple and flexible. It wasn't until this moment that he realized that even the simplest plans can be taken apart by outside forces. Especially when those outside forces are the type of person (or in this case Digimon) that thrived on making people suffer.
A flash of light and a clap of thunder interrupted the steady rhythem of pulling. The block halted and there was a chaotic mess of screaming followed by more flashes and thunderclaps. Hiro spun around to find Digimon flying all over the place and smoking covering the ground.
"Oh no." Landmines, they had covered the ground and someone must have stepped on one. The problem didn't end there. No, the explosion had caused Digimon to stumble and walk into more of the landmines, which in turn caused the cadets to panic and move without thinking. More landmines were set off because of this. It was a terrible cycle. The field was a chaotic mess.
"Hiro!" Tetsu coughed out and Hiro's gaze latched onto his partner. The V-mon was looking wildly around for him and when he caught sight of him, he looked ready to move.
"Tetsu stop!"
Tetsu paused before he could take a step. Hiro knew what he was thinking. Tetsu's first priority was to protect him. Heck, he was surprised the little guy hadn't Digivolved from the stress. But that was no good here. Moving without reason only made things worse.
"Don't move." Hiro yelled quickly and it seemed like his scream had gotten some of the cadets nearby to stop moving as well, but Hiro ignored them. He only had eyes for his partner. "If you move without thinking you'll only make things worse. Just stop."

Something exciting had begun. Look at them. Some of the cadets were foolish to keep pulling the block, despite a warning about mines from one of them. They stepped on the mines while pulling, and look at them.
KA-BOOM!
They got the consequences for their foolishness. The mines exploded, and they were flung out from the explosion. What a bunch of fools. They just did a fatal mistake and they hot what they deserved. That's what you got for moving carelessly without watching your surroundings. Someone's not pleased with that.
Well, at first the trainees were scared, and shivered. How could they pull the block to the hill, while there were mines around? Those were really troublesome. Not to mention they had to pull the block up to hill. Wow, everyone's gonna be ruined and blown up to bits. However, they came up with a plan.
"Hold the block still! At least four of us must remove the mines, so we can proceed!" A cadet instructed. At first, the cadets began to chatter while wondering if that was good idea. They agreed about it, but then they had to decide who was going to do it. "Hey, maybe you can help us with those things. I mean, you seem to be crafty enough." An Agumon cadet talked to Hiro.
Then, if Hiro complied, the others would join him to remove the mines. If not, other cadets would do it. Ankh looked at them and then he shifted his attention to the watch. Looks like they would make it... or maybe not. After all, a teamwork is needed to work on this training.

Hiro was relieved that everyone had calmed down a little. There was a feeling of panic and trepidation in the air, he could see some of the Digimon trembling as they held onto the chains attached to the block, but at least there was no wild panicking.
When someone asked him to be one of the four that defused the bombs, Hiro just shook his head wildly. "No, no, no, no, no..." That was a bad idea on so many levels. "I do not want to be anywhere near one of those things. First off, I have no idea how a mine works or how to disarm one, secondly, I'm not as sturdy as you Digimon." Hiro shuddered as an image of him losing an arm to a landmine. "I'd rather play it safe and stay away from the blast zone."
Four of the cadets moved to get the landmines out of the way and while the rest of them watched, Tetsu turned over to Hiro. "You do know that the landmines aren't designed to be fatal, right? They'll hurt but you won't die."
"Says you." Hiro grimaced. "Even than, my first point stands. I have no idea how to disarm a mine."
"You'd figure it out." Tetsu assured his partner. "You're smart."
"Pass." Hiro said as he watched them clear away some of the mines. "Come on, they've clear enough room for us to start advancing. If we go too fast, everyone get ready for the call to stop. We don't want a repeat of what happened a few minutes ago." Hiro called out to all the cadets.

"Oh well? Don't worry, we've had them sorted." The cadet said as Hiro denied his offer. Well, he could understand that the boy valued his life more, and so did he. All he could do was to pull the block further. Well, he just shrugged at Hiro's comment.
And so, the four cadets went to dispatched the mines. Fortunately, they knew how to disarm the mines, as they had trained for such. Of course, they wouldn't go without reason. They were among the cadets who REALLY knew the how-to, at least. They managed to disarmed few mines, so the others could advance.
As the four cadets disarmed some of the mines, the others then continued to pull the block onward. They advanced slowly, as Hiro told, but they had to make sure that the mines were removed. You know, the mine remover acted as quality control. More mines to disarm, and more clearance for the way. And several minutes later...
"It's safe!" A mine remover cadet confirmed that the mines were all removed. "Alright! Move!" A cadet instructed them to advance, and the mine remover joined the rest of the group. And so, they continued to pull the block all the way to the top of sledge.
Ankh saw them working. So, their teamwork was successful. This made Ankh smirked in excitement. Just as they managed to pull the block to the top of the hill sledge, Ankh looked at the watch, and then he blowed the whistle long, and then he exclaimed, "Well done! Now you can go back here."

"Right, so oil slick ramps to minefield tire pulling, basically." Hiro said as he substituted the tire for a giant block of Digital super metal. He was mentally taking note of the situation and not looking forward to the predictions his mind was conjuring. "It all seems to be basically normal training stuff, but kicked up several notches on the danger scale."
"I know, it's great." Tetsu hopped along next to Hiro as they jogged over to where Anhk was waiting for the cadets. "It's so awesome. I mean, we're getting teamwork training, physical training and all sorts of stuff all at once."
Hiro stared down at his partner and recalled that the little guy was all gunk ho about training montages and the old school spartan training from hell kind of things you only see in anime and manga nowadays. Maybe Hiro should introduce him to some of the more ridiculous training methods he'd read some martial artists did. It would be funny to watch Tetsu try to walk handstand style up and down some stairs and fall repeatedly. No wait, that sounded terrible. Knowing his luck, the little dragon's head would break the stairs after a few falls.
"You and me really need to talk about limits, little buddy." Hiro shook his head at his partner's recklessness.
"There are no limits!" Tetsu said firmly. He looked up at Hiro and caught his eyes for a moment before rushing ahead to line back up with the rest of the cadets.
Hiro paused at his partner's words. He knew that was not true. There were limits. He was realistic. Yet at the same time. Hiro smiled at his partner's words and rubbed the back of his head. They were pointless and childish, but hadn't he loved those kind of words when he was younger? Didn't he still watched those childish shows about those armored figures of justice breaking all limits?
"Well, I guess we'll just keep going until one of us is right." Hiro jogged back into line.

And so, the cadets formed the six lines in front of Ankh like earlier. And the next could be the last area, if it was anything. Perhaps, it would be the most dangerous among all? If that was so, it should be obvious. And the cadets should be prepared for that. After all of the cadets gathered, Ankh then ordered them, "A TEEEEEN~ HUT!!"The cadets then stood in standby position. After that, he shouted another order, "STAND AT EASE!"The cadets then stood at ease. And now it was time for explanation about the next, or rather, last training. "Okay, cadets. You had passed the rigorous training so far. But don't think this is over yet. There's last area you'll go, and I expect you've been prepared for this. So, don't let you guard down. I believe in your strength, and so should you do to your own." Ankh gave the speech to the cadets. "Do you ready for that mettle?""SIR, YES SIR!" "Alright. But take warning, it won't be like previous ones. You should watch your moves." Ankh nodded. "READY FRONT!"The cadets then stood back in standby position. And so, the mobilization began. "So, we're going to mobilize to the next area. Mobilization starts from the leftmost line from me. Company, move out!" Ankh initiated the mobilization, starting from the rightmost line. As usual, Ankh took the lead for the mobilization. By and by, they arrived at the next area. The last area was a running field, but with variety of obstacles around in each phase. First, they had to crawl under the fences with barbed, spiky wire, and then they had to run through to the vacant track, but with land mines installed. When there weren't any mines there, prepare for gunfires from the bushes at the edges of the track. The next? Save that for surprise. And so, the trainees formed the lines like earlier. And here goes the last training. "Okay, guys. Now you'll face several obstacles on your way through the goal. I will be waiting at the other side, so prepare for the challenge. Now, we'll begin the training." Ankh said. "Now the training begins! Move, move, move!"And so, the cadets began to run all the way to the running field. First, they crawled on muddy track under the barbed wire. Once they went through, the ran into the area full of landmines. They had to be fast and careful, as the mines would explode once they touched them. Also, they had to avoid gunfires in case they passed the landmines. Meanwhile, several Airdramons were awaiting on the air above the next area, all while bringing the bombs.

"Oh come on." Hiro stared in complete disbelief at the field in front of him. He had once again lingered in the back, though this time with the added company of Tetsu who was a bit more weary of the training ground after the near miss by land mine. The mud and barbed wire wasn't too bad. He had seen some in those movies about military training so it seemed logical enough. The field that was filled with mines and Airdramon ready to bomb them from above was kind of overkill in his mind.
He wracked his mind for a solution as he crawled through the mud field. He had to spit out mud a bunch of times and he was pretty sure there was a small cut on the back of his head but it wasn't that bad. When he stood up he was once more greeted with carnage. The Airdramon were dropping bombs on frantic Digimon who in there attempts to dodge were stepping on landmines. The ones that got past that were dropped by gunfire from the sides of the course.
"Hmm." Tetsu looked around in front of him, then at the Airdramon and than the gunfire. "Alright, so you need to get through there and that's not too bad. That last one is going to be all tattattam but if I go there I should be alright." The V-mon chirped thoughtfully before nodding and dropping into a sprinter's start. Before Hiro could ask him what he meant, Tetsu was off. A weaving dash through the various landmines, Tetsu stopped on a dime as a bomb fell in front of him. The explosion rocked him frame but Tetsu powered through it with nothing more than crossed arms to protect his face.
"Come on!" The V-mon roared as he shot past the land mines and into the kill zone. A flurry of gunfire shot past as the Digimon zigzagged his way through, using other cadets as cover, until a stray shot caught the Digimon in the shoulder and threw his dash off. Tetsu tripped as he was thrown off balance. He twisted and lashed out with his arm, hitting the ground and send him twirling in the air. He landed roughly on his feet, passing right over a landmine he could have fallen onto before dashing to the finish line. Bruised up, bleeding from the training bullet hitting his shoulder but grinning like a mad man.
"Wat?" Hiro just stared in disbelief. Where the heck did that come from? He knew that Tetsu could fight and stuff, but... "What?"
Hiro would have stared longer. But he noticed that he was only one not in the course and yelped to run in before Anhk could set him on fire or something. He ran forward chasing after another Digimon and tracing his path to stay away from landmines. That stopped being effective once an Airdramon bombed the Digimon in front of him and Hiro yelped as he was suddenly surrounded by explosions. Being the last one had it's detriments after all.

The training had begun. Looks like the cadets were having trouble on passing the running field. After the barbed wire, there were landmines, and Airdramon bombing them from above. Wow, that was really dangerous. Very dangerous. It would cost them lives, really.
The cadets were having trouble on advancing through. Some of them were bombed from above, and some another stepped on landmines and sent away. After that, they were greeted by gunfires, from assault rifles. Some of them got hit, but looks like they didn't seem hurt too much. Whoever designed this obstacles was crazy. A crazy demonic trainer, that is.
Well, the reason was justified, to emulate how the escape from war was like. So, was this war was really like? Yes. This was the situation of war. Where everyone was in panic, and situation getting tense. Only those who had nerves of steel could survive. Not to mention this training was close to that of actual war.
Ankh observed at the cadets. Looks like they didn't advance well, or so he thought. Some of them managed to pass through, but some of them... performed poorly. Ankh thought, that putting them in danger might be the best way to lure out their true potential. Although they didn't perform well, Ankh didn't lose hope.
That is, when he saw a Tetsu the Veemon running like an acrobat, seemingly surpassed all the obstacles. That is until he got shot on shoulder, seemingly tripping off from the gunfire. As Ankh had guessed, he was a promising cadet at all. He was a bit bold, but he had sheer determination that pushed him further into the challenge. That was what he was looking from this training: A warrior with nerves of steel. Hiro on the other hand, he seemed like... Was doing nothing at all, until he ran into the dangerous scene.
Fortunately for them, after the gruesome areas, there was a medic post where MagnaAngemon and the medic squad was standing by, so they could tend to the cadets to heal their wounds, before continuing into more challenging area...

"You can do it Hiro!"
Despite Tetsu's boundless optimism, Hiro was not finding his cheers all that helpful. Mostly because they made him want to yell sarcastic things back at him and that took up precious oxygen and attention. Those are not things he could afford to waste while being firebombed by Airdramon in a flat field without any cover.
The explosions were painful, but that was about it. He would probably have first degree burns at worst and a bunch of bruises. This did nothing to help Hiro calm down as he stumbled barely avoiding bomb after bomb. It was difficult trying to keep an eye out on the bombs above him and keep moving forward. After what could only be called an eternity within a rain of fire, Hiro stumbled to the final obstacle. The flat field being pelted with fire from the sides. He was no longer the only one there, as quite a few cadets were trapped on the field.
Hiro briefly thought about trying it Tetsu's way. Just rushing through and powering through whatever hits he got. He pushed that out of his mind right away. He didn't have Tetsu's speed. He watched a few cadets get pelted and started to get a hang of the patterns. The range of certain guns, the rate of fire, and other details went through Hiro's mind. He couldn't give exact numbers or words to his observations, but he had a decent idea of how the field was set up.
"Right." Hiro sighed and rolled his shoulder. "Well, no point in standing still."
Hiro waited a moment before dashing diagonally. He ran behind another cadet getting up and used him for cover. He mentally apologized as he hopped over a landmine. Hiro continued to work his way forward this way. He would move in odd directions to avoid overlapping fire and quickly duck behind other cadets if he had no way to move without being shot. It didn't exactly work out perfectly, Hiro had several new bruises to his name from missing the timing or a cadet ducking for cover rather than being used as a makeshift wall, but he had made it.
"Never again." Hiro groaned as he crossed the finish line.
"Aww, come on. It wasn't that bad. You just missed the timing on that last one. It was more of a tatattam, than a tamtatam." Tetsu explained in his own nonsensical way.
"Never again." Hiro just repeated his opinion with a bit more venom.
