Prologue: Legends
I've been around so long, I don't have any idea how old I really am. All I know is that I'm years, maybe even decades older than most of my friends. I'm not sure how it happened, but unlike most Digimon, I found myself in the Ancient Ruins when my Digiegg hatched. I wasn't alone as a variation of the Renamon species watched me hatch. At first I believed the Renamon to be my parent. As Illumimon, I didn't realize I was reptilian while he was not.
I lived in a chamber of the ruins where the only thing inside was a sword. The Renamon didn't spend all of his time watching over me. He would sometimes leave and bring back food and drink, but still cared for me most of the day. He was well versed in the lore of the Digital World as he would often tell me legends as I grew up. Eventually I evolved into Staticmon. That was when I became aware that I was reptilian while he was not. Not long after, I learned his name: Ren.
Eventually Ren explained to me that he had stolen my egg, not because he wanted a child to care for, but rather that my egg would never hatch there, which was why he brought me to the ruins. He knew from the mark on my egg that I was destined to become one of the last Star Dragon Type Digimon. Digimon with that type don't hatch outside of the ruins without human partners. Aparently there must be some source of digital energy somewhere inside. I never could find it.
He began training me, but as I was only at the In-Training level, we took it slow. Then I evolved into Sparkmon. It wasn't long after that that I pulled Shinsei from its pedestal for the first time. I began recounting the many legends, including the one about the sword and how the source of its power was a Digicore of a Digimon with twin Digicores, the second of which was sealed away in the sword. My training picked up after that. Once he was satisfied, Ren sent me out into the outside world.
I didn't have any real trouble until I arrived in the Valley of Dragons where I was attack by a Black Growlmon. I was able to chase him off, but only after taking a beating. Unfortunately the damage I sustained was too great. My vision grew dark.
