To Avoid a Snowstorm, Get Lost Underground (Open)

Seeking shelter isn't always easy, especially in the midst of a raging storm. With no village nearby, and no sure way to navigate the terrain, it's probably a real stroke of luck to stumble upon a cave. Maybe with enough luck, this shelter will protect them until the storm passes. Maybe the entrance won't be snowed in, and maybe they can find their way off of this mountain. Two digimon found themselves in this very scenario, they've barely reached rookie level and they thought they could brave this mountain with just the two of them. They found an entrance to the cavern and hoped that whatever lay inside would be kinder than the storm. They weren't the first to enter, and they wouldn't be the last. Hopefully, they can manage to stay on their toes and leave as soon as the storm calms. "It's really cold in here..." Sparmon complained lightly. She never was very fond of cold weather, but she wanted this adventure. She wanted a change of scenery, surely there was nothing to gain if they didn't risk something like this. This way she would reach champion soon, right? "You know, I think I'd rather you just be quiet for a while." Her companion and brother, Coonaimon responded dryly. His opinions differed quite a lot from his sister's. But he'd agreed to come here none the less. Truthfully he wanted to visit the snowflake village just to see for himself what had become of it. But he should have known finding it would be impossible like this. His sister scowled at him. "Well I guess I'll be leaving then if that's what you want." The red furred rookie said getting to her paws and turning away. Her brother was in one of his moods again. Why's he so grouchy? They'd found shelter. "Back into the storm?" The other asked lightly. Instead of responding however Sparmon headed off deeper into the caverns tunnels. Perhaps she could find something of interest down there. Something better to occupy her time with than sitting silently with her stuck up brother. She didn't pay much attention to which tunnels she chose to follow.
Coonaimon hadn't stopped his sister from leaving, but now she was gone he'd started to regret it. They had no idea what sort of things are deeper in these tunnels, she could wind up hurting herself. She never thinks about these thing! He'd hoped she would have matured a little when they evolved, but no she's still the same child she's always been, the same as she'll always be. Coonaimon growled to himself before following after her. After maybe thirteen minutes of wandering the tunnels searching, Coonaimon realized he had become lost. Perhaps he's the one not always thinking things through... Now what should he do? Does he shout for help? That would be humiliating. Maybe he should keep going, something is bound to start looking familiar, right? His eyes weren't made for darkness. If his sister were with him she could help him find his way. But no, she left him back at the entrance. You know what, this was all her fault. The rookie squinted to try and navigate his way around. He gasped upon making something out on the floor. There before him were footprints, no his own nor did they match his sisters. There was someone else here in these caves, maybe more than just one or two more. And here he was, searching blindly alone for his sister who may just be as vulnerable as himself right now. "Hello!" A distant voice called out, Sparmon's voice. It echoed through the cavern growing fainter and fainter. Immediately Coonaimon took off, in the direction he thought the voice came from. The two of them were stronger together, they may need to be in case any of the other digimon here were hostile. If they were hostile they probably know they're hear now, they may be heading towards Sparmon too. He ran forwards hurriedly and desperately, only to ram headfirst into the cave wall.

Sometimes, Elliot and Isaac just couldn't leave well enough alone. Normal peoples' reaction to being caught in a massive brawl between two dark knights, a mecha dragon, and a vampire was to never go back to the area of the incident. To the brothers, it was practically a demand to return. After all, they had to ensure nobody else could get hurt around these parts, right? The big threats had all been slain anyway, but they would have to be sure that remnants wouldn't be causing any trouble. Besides, if they could find the people after their friend, maybe they could get in some proper recon and help report their intentions.
Unfortunately, none of that panned out as the group hoped. Instead of being able to find powerful enemy Digimon, they only found themselves right in the center of a snowstorm. Not wanting to be ambushed by opportunistic predators while their guards were down, the boys retreated into the safety of a nearby cave system. At the very least, they'd feel more comfortable dealing with some sort of hibernating DigiBear than they were being attacked in the middle of the freezing cold. They walked through the darkness of the caves, Elliot in his Strikedramon form leading the way as Isaac in his Yasyamon form kept an eye out for any hostile Digimon.
"You'd think by now, we'd realize this place wasn't worth bothering with," Isaac grumbled.
"Hey, this isn't all bad. Even if we can't help Shi, at least we were able to get out for a little bit," Elliot pointed out, trying to look on the situation's bright side.
"Well, we haven't been attacked yet, so I'll chalk it up to a good sign.
Wait, you hear that?" The Yasyamon wheeled around, looking for the voice that had been calling out in the darkness. It sounded young and friendly, thankfully, and likely wasn't much of a threat. Isaac narrowed his eyes to try and get a better view of his surroundings, hoping that focusing his vision would cancel out the obscuring effect of the darkness.
Elliot followed his brother's gaze to the best of his ability. That is to say, not very well. Between the thick hair and steel helmet of this form, Strikedramon didn't exactly have the most visual acuity. "Hello? Who's there?" he called in response, figuring he could locate by sound what Isaac was currently tracking by sight. At this rate, the two of them would find this newcomer in no time!

Sparmon looked around herself, trying to figure out just how far she'd wandered. If she needed a light source she figured she could try using her flare technique, but that wouldn't do her much good now. Even if she could see she doubted she could find her maze in this maze. This was a horrible idea, wasn't it? Maybe she should call out again. Maybe Coonaimon would come find her after a while. No she shouldn't wait around to be rescued by him. She didn't doubt she needed help finding her way, but there was no reason to rely solely on her brother. He was getting tired of her antics anyway, and this would just upset him more. Her ears perked at hearing a voice. But who? It wasn't familiar... Should she hide? No she was no coward! She could take on whoever it was. Wait a minute! Maybe it was someone friendly... Oh how she hoped it would be, a new friend and ally, and maybe they would be able to help each other out of here. Did the owner of the voice need help? Coonaimon said to practice caution... But he also scolds her when she doesn't get the full story. He should make up his mind! Oh shoot, who knows how long she's been silent thinking stupid things like this! The voice is sure to leave if she takes too much longer! Then it was decided, Sparmon checked over herself and crouched defensively. "Hello? I'm here?" The rookie replied uncertainty. She winced at the sound of her voice, she sounded so small... But that's not her at all! Whatever, let whoever this was think that all they wanted, it doesn't make a difference, right? "I'm Sparmon, the... um... The brilliant and bold! Start your name!" Her tone switching from meek to prideful. "Please?" Her two tails swished eagerly behind her as she focused on one of the tunnels she thought the voice may have come from.

Okay, good. The voice was actually responding by asking their names, instead of by jumping out of the shadows and trying to set them on fire. That was a good sign that, whoever they were dealing with, it wasn't hostile. Unless it was a namethief out to steal their identities, but that would just be silly. Most hostile Digimon were way less subtle about that kind of thing. Isaac kept a bit more on edge, making sure not to leak anything too vital, while Elliot continued be his usual, somewhat oblivious self. "My name's Elliot!" he called back, continuing to head down the same tunnel. Sparmon's voice was starting to sound closer and closer. If he kept heading down this path the two would surely bump into each other soon.
Figuring the jig was up, Isaac figured he'd at least share his name too. Elliot would likely blab it anyway, so it wasn't like keeping it secret would be worth very much. Better to just get intros out of the way now. "I'm Isaac," he added, continuing to peer down the tunnel to try and see who they were approaching. He kept his guard up just in case, swords raised in a fighting position. It was a stark contrast to Elliot's cheerful down the cavern, arms down and guard completely lowered. At least he was close enough that, in case of any harm, Isaac could grab him by the shoulder and drag him back to safety. Sometimes looking after his little brother could be such a headache.
"How'd you get here?" Isaac asked. Generally if a Digimon was from an ice area, you'd know it. Like SnowGoblimon. Or SnowAgumon. Or Frigimon. They all had names that practically screamed 'I'm made of ice.' It was very likely that this Digimon was a stranger to the area. In need of help, or seeking to do them harm? The answer remained unclear. "Are you from around this area, or did you get snowed in?"

Sparmon nearly leaped back in surprise. There were two voices?! Hopefully it was just those two... If there were more than that she wasn't sure she'd be able to handle a fight if it came down to it. At least the two who reviled themselves to her, Isaac and Elliot, seemed friendly enough. They sounded closer this time, they're going to find her soon. "Me and my brother decided to explore this area of the digital zone, we've never been here before. I guess today wasn't a very good day for it though." Sparmon recalled how fast the storm came in. Did that happen a lot around here? Maybe. Now it was her turn to ask a question, it was only fair right? But what should she ask, there was too much she didn't know about the strangers. Should she just repeat their question back to them? "Do you two live here? Where are you from? Do snowstorms and blizzards happen often around here? Do you think the snow's stopped yet? Are you two lost too? Have you seen anyone else down here?" Sparmon rambled her questions all together. She stopped herself after the sixth one so they could at least attempt to answer her. She had so many more questions... Patience now. Maybe she'd already said too much to them... But they were going to help her right? They didn't seem like villains so they probably would once they found her. She relaxed a bit and took a few steps into one of the tunnels. It wasn't the one she originally thought they were coming from, but now she' sure they're this way. She was tired of waiting for them and this would make things quicker right?

Whoa, that was a lot of questions. It would take both brothers speaking in unison just to match the quick pace at which the questions were being asked. Thankfully, that was exactly what they were doing.
"No, we live in the human world!"
"Elliot, you can't just keep telling everybody that. Then they'll look for us, and we could get people hurt," Isaac interjected.
"It's okay. It isn't like they know what we look like, right?"
"Yeah, okay, whatever.
It's been snowing here every time we've popped in. Best case scenario it's gentle, but usually it's a blizzard waiting to happen."
"Doubt it stopped, but it can't be as bad as it was before, right?"
"We're not lost. Just turned around a little."
"We think we're the only ones, at least. There might be bears. Please don't wake them up."
"There's no bears, Elliot."
"Hey! You never know!"
By the time their banter came to a halt, they had reached the edge of the cave. Looking down, Isaac was the first one to spot Sparmon. A horned cat with fiery red fur definitely wasn't what either brother expected upon meeting their new acquaintance, but she didn't look too dangerous to be around. Elliot looked down at the cat upon Isaac drawing his attention to her, smiling warmly. "Hey there! Are you Sparmon?" he asked, making sure he didn't just get the attention of a totally unrelated Digimon.

Sparmon blinked at the pair. They were a bit taller than how she imagined... What was she expecting though anyway? They looked pretty strong. Maybe they would have won if they fought... Probably a very good thing they were nice. Or at least they seem nice at the moment. "Yep, that's me." She smiled at the two. 'You guys are Eliot and Issac, right? It's nice to finally meet you! I've never met anyone who was from the human world. There are quite a few who have been there before but not too many are actually from there." The fiery rookie chattered excitedly before recalling her distress. "Hey, you two aren't lost. Do you think you could help me out then? My brother is probably still lazing about the way we came in, but I don't know how to get back to him. It's like a never ending maze in here!" She wondered about her brother. Was he still upset with her and that's why he didn't come looking? Was he okay? Well at least she wasn't alone here anymore. Maybe Eliot and Isaac would help her, and they would be able to get to know each other while they searched. See? Things were never hopeless. At least it seemed like that until the cave began to shake. One of the tunnels collapsed in on itself filling with dirt, rock, and snow. Sparmon yelped and fled to the far wall as snow tumbled in, blocking one of the passages entirely.
Meanwhile, Coonaimon rubbed his sore head and tried to look around. Everything was still too dark for him to make anything out in this cave. Which direction had he been heading in? Maybe now he should try to call for help... He shrunk back upon hearing a sort of crash noise. It shook the ground a little. What could have caused that? A digimon's attack? A cave in? Coonaimon was fortunate that it wasn't he who had to deal with it, but he couldn't help but worry for his and his sister's survival down here.

Just as it seemed like everything was going to be fine, one of the tunnels decided to collapse in on itself. Just in case Elliot waited for something to come pushing ots way out of the ice and snow, hungering for a chance at finding helpless prey. When none arrived the boy sighed in relief, turning to the snow and preparing to launch a gout of flames at it through his tail. What better way to escape this cave in than to melt their way through? "Tailblaz-" Elliot started, only to find himself being cut off by Isaac.
"That's a really bad idea. This cave's unstable enough without us making it worse," he warned. It didn't feel like there was an earthquake or anything, and there was no sound indicating that another Digimon had collapsed the tunnel. It was looking to be all natural, and that meant this cave was far less of a sanctuary than they first thought. Large, main rooms such as this seemed to be fine, but if they didn't watch their step in the tunnels they could end up in major trouble.
"Right. My bad," Elliot said, dropping the attack. It'd be a plan best resumed in emergencies. For now, though, it was best to get back to what was important here. This cave maze still needed to be solved, and Sparmon's brother still needed to be found. Only then could the group finally get some rest.
"You said you're looking for your brother? What does he look like? Knowing that might help give us a starting point. " It was unlikely that they previously crossed paths with the other cat, if it even was another cat. However, having at least an idea of what he looked like would make him far easier to track. This would especially be the case if he, too was panicked by the cave-in. Chasing a panicky Digimon was never easy.

Startled by the cave in, the rookie didn't respond right away. Instead she stared at the nearly formed mound. Anyone of them could have been crushed had they been just a bit too close. Wait, someone had asked he something. Isaac? He asked about her brother? Oh she needed to describe him, they needed to know what he looked like if they were to find him. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She needed to try to be descriptive and put in enough detail in her words. "He has thick green fur... He has horns on his head and two tails like I do. Coonaimon also has... blue eyes? I'm sorry I'm not very good at this." Sparmon seemed disheartened. She couldn't be cheerful and carefree, this place no longer felt safe as it once did. Surely it was better than a snowstorm though, right? Maybe not if it lightened since. "Do you think he's okay or that we'll find him?" She asked concerned. Maybe he was buried alive somewhere... No! There's no reason to think that until they know for sure. Just worry about finding him and figuring out how to navigate this cave. Isaac and Eliot are here, surely they can help find Coonaimon before anything worse happens.
"I need to make a plan... I can't just go around searching blindly." Coonaimon said to himself. He was walking blind into this, maybe he can retrace his steps by scent? But how much time has passed already? The smell is probably faded to the point it would only confuse him further. Well there had to be more options. Just focus! He started walking, when he reached a tunnel his scratched the side of it, making a pattern to mark his way. He'd do that at every intersection, making the entrance and exit of passages so he wouldn't be going around in circles. The rookie scolded himself for not doing something sooner. Rushing in was something he always criticized others for. Now here he was guilty of the same thing.

Okay! This was going to be a pretty simple mission, then. Red cat looking for green cat, connect the dots. All they'd have to do was make it through this cave, which after all of the cave-ins may have been easier said than done. There was also the fact that this seemed to be part of a more sprawling cave system, so the entrance they took likely wouldn't be the same one the cats took. In fact, Isaac would be confident that they were likely from opposite sides of the tunnel. If Coonaimon hid further inside of the cave, and they hid further inside of the cave, their entrances were likely opposite instead of adjacent points. A few more questions, and it'd be really easy to logic their way out of this mess.
"He'll be okay. I'm sure of it," Elliot said, reassuringly. "And if he isn't, we'll find him and make sure he is. Isaac and I are heroes, so we'll always be able to help. I promise." As much as that term always made Isaac cringe, he figured this would be something the Sparmon needed to hear. Besides, after all Elliot had been through, Isaac might as well encourage his enthusiasm. Even if Isaac didn't feel that he personally deserved the title of hero, Elliot had certainly earned it after all of his hard work.
"Alright, where did you enter from? I know he couldn't be where Elliot and I came from, and I don't think he went off wandering too far from where you came. It shouldn't be too hard to narrow down where he's currently at, I think," he said, sharing his deductions with the cat. All he could do now was hope that Sparmon could retrace her steps, and that it wasn't the caved in tunnel that she exited from. That would complicate matters badly.

Heroes? Just like in the stories! Sparmon looked at the two brothers with admiration. The two did look like they could be heroes. That means Eliot was telling the truth! Everything is sure to work out now! All she needed to do now is- is find her way back? She had gotten so turned around she wasn't sure she could anymore. But she had to try, she needed to help. Isaac and Eliot came through that way... One tunnel was collapsed... That means her choices were already narrowed down some! "I think it's this way!" She tried to sound confidant with her choice. "Lets go!" The rookie bounded over to lead the way through the tunnel. She just hoped she wasn't making a mistake and causing the group to become ever more lost in these tunnels. Maybe if she told the pair she truly was lost down here, they'd understand. But she couldn't let them down! They were counting on her to lead the way! You can't guess wrong all the time, and maybe these tunnels met up with each other in other places too. She just had to keep being optimistic, they will get out of here.

Process of elimination was one of the group's best friends sometimes. They let Sparmon take the lead as far as directions were concerned, but was letting her head the group really the smartest idea? She was still so small sounding, and while tiny cats tended to be stronger than they looked this one looked to genuinely be Rookie in status. For this reason Isaac strode to the frond of the group, assuring the cat "I'll keep watch from the front. Elliot's the tough one, so he'll keep guard from the back. Please let us know if you see anything." Isaac himself was on guard for any indication of other Digimon being around here. Nothing as sophisticated as markings, but abandoned torches, suspicious noises, or footsteps were definitely things Isaac was keeping an eye on. Elliot focused on puffing himself up to be as intimidating as possible, but with how goofy his grin was there was really no chance of pulling it off. He was just too much of a sweetheart.
"What's your brother like?" Elliot asked, curious. Elliot hoped a bit of chat would make this journey less dreary. Isaac saw a great opportunity to learn more about the other cat's personality, and with it track some of his likely locations.

Isaac had taken the lead, it's what heroes tend to do right? They go in bravely on the front lines to protect those weaker than themselves. While Sparmon bristled at the thought of being considered weak, she figured a Isaac had a lot more experience doing this sort of thing.
"Coonaimon? Hmm..." The rookie perked up at having a conversation going. "He's really serious all the time. He doesn't enjoy playing around as much as he used too, and he's always telling me I need to think things through and be careful. I guess it's because he cares... Sometimes it doesn't feel that way..." She trailed off for a moment. "But he's a good digimon! He's always thinking about others and he wants to be a hero too someday. He's always telling stories and making new friends." She paused for a bit, pondering something. "Are you and Isaac brothers? Sometimes it's hard traveling with someone all the time, you two seem to get along really well though. Me and my brother don't get along that nicely..."
"Am I complaining? Nope! Not at all! Hey, I think there's another passage up ahead!" Sparmon burst out, trying not to linger too long on sad thoughts. She glanced up at Elliot, hoping she hadn't worried or confused him too much.

Elliot frowned sadly when Sparmon mentioned that her brother didn't always seem like he cared. There was no feeling in the world worse than having that kind of trust waver. He tried his best to keep his voice gentle yet strong as he tried to reassure the cat Digimon. "I'm sure he cares a lot about you! Brothers are just weird sometimes. They can be all prickly and cold, especially when they're worried. But they don't mean any harm by it. Sometimes its just stress pushing down. You just gotta be patient with them. I bet he'll be a great hero some day, and in the end he'll have you to thank for all of it.". Isaac couldn't help but do a double take, recognizing a lot of highlights from their own relationship in that sentence. He never had a clue Elliot even recognized half of that! He always seemed so, well, Elliot.
"Yeah, we're brothers. Been relying on each other since we first came here and for years before that. It may get tiring, but it's a huge relief knowing someone has your back when you're being chased down by practically everything the Digital World has to offer," Isaac added. Being together practically every moment of every day got draining fast, but at least in the human world the two had the option to split up. With how dangerous the Digital World was, did Sparmon and Coonaimon have that choice? Then again, to those two the human world would likely be the strange, foreign adventure. In Terminus, or one of the world's many smaller villages, they probably had plenty of chances for alone time.
But that musing could wait. There were tunnels to run down!

Sparmon nodded her head harshly, quickly agreeing to the others statements. She could tell Elliot was speaking from experience, after all he had a brother too so he'd know those things. Maybe her worries were a bit silly... Surely she shouldn't doubt her brother so much. Sparmon sniffed the air of the tunnels, her sense of smell wasn't as good as her brothers, but she might still be able to find something. "Hey, I think we should go left now." She directed. This wasn't so hard. But then again she was mostly just guessing and hoping to get lucky. "You two must have gone on a lot of adventures. What were they like? I hear the human world can be scary, but you two are from there right from the start! Were you two scared the first time you came to the digital world?" The flame-furred cat conversed. Isaac and Elliot must have been everywhere! They probably got to do a lot of cool things too. Here she and Coonaimon were, getting lost on their first expedition to the mountain. Trapped in a cave nonetheless! They probably didn't seem like cool and awesome heroes at all yet, but they were only just getting started. Now she was letting her thoughts wonder again... Focus Sparmon, focus. "Wait, I think we should go this way instead." She had an odd feeling about that passageway now... Better to go with this new one, right? Trust her instincts? She's been wrong before... Well she'll just follow the two, what were they? Dragon-beast digimon? Tall-lizard-people-digimon? Champion level digimon? That didn't seem to fit for some reason, but it was probably the closest description she knows. She'll just keep referring to them as the two real-life heroes instead. At least in her head anyway. Right, she'll just follow the two heroes wherever they think is best. She'll still suggest things, but they seem to know just about everything! Probably because they've been to so many different places...
