Mitsuko would feel a strange springing sensation around her, finally rousing her from her unconsciousness. The reason for the spring would be obvious as soon as she woke up; where before there was solid ground, now she was lying atop a giant spider's web. It was fairly sticky, but solid enough that if need be she could stand up and walk around.
Of course, if she did that, she would notice that standing up was a lot harder without the proper use of her arms. In their current state they were completely nonfunctional, wrapped in so many layers of tight silk that she could barely even wiggle them. With her main outlet for balance robbed from her, it would be a lot harder to navigate whatever perilous maze Pumpkinmon had cooked up for her.
Speaking of Pumpkinmon, there he was now! He hung upside down from the ceiling, trapped in a giant gob of spidery silk. "Hey, you made it to the feast! Only problem is, we're not the ones who are gonna be feasting here. No, it's gonna be that guy," he explained, cocking his head in the direction of a giant, bloated Dokugumon. It was currently prowling in circles at the edge of the web, occasionally tapping a strand of web to see if it was making any vibrations. "You ever play Red Light, Green Light, kid? 'Cause we've got one major high-stakes game of it going on right now. If that thing notices you running around on its turf, it's gonna start getting curious. And when I say curious, I mean hungry. So try not to piss it off, eh?
If you can get off the web, you should be able to crawl through the tunnels and get out of here. But I'd keep an eye out for any other webs, if I were you. It's good karma to help out a stranger, especially when that stranger's gonna get eaten by spiders."
The web itself seemed mostly sturdy, spun in thick ropes of white silk. About a third of the ropes were grey instead of white, and seemed to be dripping with a strange fluid. They practically screamed "do not touch", but with their haphazard placement avoiding them would require a lot of careful movement. Also requiring a lot of careful movement was Dokugumon, who seemed to be keeping to a very strict pattern. Scuttle for a minute, check the web. Scuttle for a minute, check the web. While he seemed to stick to the edges of the web, his prodding was quite vigilant and thorough.
Thankfully, Mitsuko wasn't alone. Unfortunately, her partner experienced the same treatment that she did. Patamon was stuck in a cocoon of silk on one of the far sides of the web. In his current state he wasn't very useful, ears wrapped shut to prevent him from flying off and mouth covered to stop him from breaking out his Boom Bubbles. However, he was another pair of eyes, and when a giant spider was on the loose those were always essential.
On the opposite side of Patamon there was a sheer wall, a large, jagged rock poking out of its side. A few strands of silk dangled from the rock's tip, their smooth ends indicating that clean cut had occurred. Perhaps it would prove useful in helping Mitsuko get her arms untangled.

Mitsuko felt strange almost as if she was weightless, or on a water bed. When Mitsuko opened her eyes, she was slightly delerious from the gas. She remembered walking inside with Patamon, then nothing. The musician tried to sit up, but realized right away something was wrong. She couldn't move her arms. Panic settled inside of her immeadiately, as she looked down. She was coverd in a thick, white wispy kind of rope. Mitsuko's deep blue eyes shot up towards the sound of Pumpkinmon's voice. When he nodded towards the Dokugumon, Mitsuko's blood ran ice cold.
A spider-like digimon was rummaging around the outside of the massive web she was trapped upon. Mitsuko felt her breath quickening within her chest, as she tried to blink back tears. Spiders. Anything but spiders! At the mention of others being trapped here with her, she tried to swallow her fear but it just made her feel sick. She tried to clear her head and take in all of her surroundings. She noted the greyish webs, they terrified her almost as much as the Dokugumon. At the end of her survey, she noticed Patamon. He was bound even more than she was. She knew that he was even more helpless than she was. A scream welled up within her, but died in her throat. She knew this perilous situation required near perfect timing.
Patamon's eyes seemed to convey her own personal fears. She needed to help her partner. How could she do that alone? Bound the way she was? For a brief instant their eyes met, and she noticed Patamon kept darting his eyes from her to the other side of the web. She looked to what he was trying to tell her. Her eyes scanned the room, and noticed the sharp rock. She needed to get over there carefully to free herself. She looked at Patamon once again, and he nodded, as if confirming his wishes. They had been in a few tough spots before, but nothing like this.
Carefully she got herself to her feet, cautious not to move the web too much. She took a few deep breaths and slowly walked towards the rock. Every now and then, she would have to branch out, off her main path to avoid the grey strands of sticky death. She noted she was starting to stray too close to the spider. Mitsuko felt her body tremble, and it started to shake the web. Patamon noticed as well, he may not be able to fight but he could do something to help. With all of his might he wiggled his body as hard as he could, causing the web to shake.

Mitsuko's trembling would not escape the Dokugumon's notice. As the web shook beneath her feet, he stopped his patrol and stood as still as a statue. Cautiously, tentatively, he answered Mitsuko's shakes with a few pokes of his own. His leg jabbed into the web with surprising diligence for a creature so huge and hideous.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Without further ado he wheeled around to face Mitsuko, scuttling towards her until she was close enough to feel his hot breath. He couldn't seem to specifically find her. While he had eight eyes, they were very small and underdeveloped. Motion was how he truly sensed his prey, and he began scuttling in circles around her position to try and confirm that she was there. All the while he faced her, refusing to break eye contact for even a single, unnerving second. As he confirmed the details of his position his jaws clattered open, a slight line of drool hungrily stretching between them.
Then he felt a far more intense shake behind him. Had his prey eluded him, or was he simply mistaken? Whatever the reason Dokugumon wheeled around, now ignoring Mitsuko to head in Patamon's direction. The good news was that now he would no longer make his regular web checks. After all, why bother looking for prey when prey had already come looking for him? The better news was that he was certainly taking his sweet time in crawling over to Patamon. This was his web, after all, and he was in no real hurry to explore it. He could take as much time as he wanted to get to the tasty prey at the end of it.
This left Mitsuko's way completely to the sharp rock completely unimpeded. She would just have to move a few steps closer, and then she'd be able to cut herself free. However, if she tried, she would notice she wasn't quite alone. Crawling between little holes in the wall were a series of KoDokugumon, every bit as hideous as their boss but at only a fraction of the size. They would swarm around the wall as soon as she approached, as if just waiting for her to deliver the cue for their emergence. They would let out small, squeaky cries as they heedlessly scuttled around, especially if the bumped into Mitsuko's shoulders in the process.

Mitsuko stifled the scream that rose to her throat, as Dokugumon scuttled towards her. As Dokugumon opened his maw, and clattered them, Mitsuko closed her eyes turning her head away. 'This is it... this is how it ends.' Mitsuko thought to herself, 'I'm sorry Patamon.' She glanced over her shoulder, hoping her silent goodbye was enough. She turned back to Dokugumon and awaited the fatal blow. But it didn't happen. It just stood there, clattering its jaws menacingly, as saliva dripped down its face.
Mitsuko held her breath, her heart thudded rapidly as she stood as still as possible. Adrenaline coursed through her veins, but she didn't back down. She swallowed the bile that rose into her throat, and continued her statuesque stance. She felt Patamon's movement, and to her amazement Dokugumon turned his attention from her, to him. Patamon was sacrificing himself. NO! she wanted to scream, but the Dokugumon sauntered his way slowly towards Patamon. She had one shot to make this work. She felt her knees starting to buckle beneath her, but she slowly pushed herself forward towards the rock.
When her salvation was within reach, her eyes had adjusted the newest threat. A swarm of KoDokugumon scuttled about the rock wall. They seemed to have the same weakness as their evolved form, the musician noted. Now was not the time to make mistakes. Slowly she reached the rock face, and inspected it for any tiny spider-like digimon. Making sure it was clear, she leaned her chest into the rock, and scraped it a couple times, and pulled away. Noticing her binds were slowly becoming weaker, she tried to tug her arms apart but the spider silk straight jacket held firm.
Mitsuko looked over her shoulder, and just watched as Patamon kept up his diversion. She locked eyes with him again, and nodded her head. Patamon nodded his too (as best as he could, being wrapped up like a present). They could do this, they had to have faith in each other! Patamon had watched in horror as his tamer faced the Dokugumon, and now faced a swarm of KoDokugumon if she wasn't careful. He did everything he could to help. Mitsuko checked the wall and scraped herself against it one more time. The bonds were really weak, but still too strong for her human arms to break alone.

The sound of silk rubbing against stone echoed through the air, bouncing from cavern wall to cavern wall. It was probably a good thing Mitsuko had resisted her urge to scream, because this latest escape attempt made it clear that the cavern walls would magnify and replay any sounds she dared to make. While Dokugumon seemed far too distracted hunting down his current quarry to notice, the swarm of KoDokugumon all seemed to perk up at the noise. The hair on their bodies stood on end in surprise at first, but as they settled they all began clustering around the source of the sound. The gathered around the sharp rock curiously, and peered up at Mitsuko expectantly.
Once she scraped herself against the wall a second time, the KoDokugumon started to converge on her location. They made high-pitched keening noises as they approached, listening to the sound of silk-on-stone as if it was music to their ears. Some of them swayed back in forth to the tune of the sound, as if helping keep Mitsuko's rhythm. Some crawled down from the cavern walls and clustered around her feet, pacing in circles as they orbited around her. One particularly jumpy spider took the chance to leap onto her shoulders, crawling from her left to her right and swishing through her hair in the process. It didn't seem interested in biting whatsoever, but it was still getting way too close for comfort.
It was also paying off. By now the tight straightjacket of silk had greatly loosened, giving Mitsuko enough space to wiggle her arms ever-so-slightly. It sagged down from her chest like an unflattering baggy sweater, and it seemed that the threads making up the center were starting to fray. If Mitsuko continued slowly but surely wiggling her way out of the silk, she would be able to get at least one arm free. This would take time and energy, however, and by now Dokugumon was at least two thirds of the way towards Patamon's position. On the other hand, the loop of silk hanging from her chest seemed the perfect size to sling around the jagged stone. If she hooked it and pulled it just right, it could be a much faster way of freeing herself. However, such movement could have been quite disturbing to the many, many small spiders currently surrounding her.
There was very little time to focus. Each second was another yard traversed. Each thought was another footstep. For Patamon's sake, it was do or die.

Mitsuko watched the KoDukugumon with apprehension, as they swayed to the rhythm she produced. Mitsuko held her revulsion in check as she focused on the problem at hand. When the KoDokugumon scuttled around her feet, she bit her lip trying to hold back the scream she so wished she could release. When the one KoDukugumon landed on her, she stilled instantly. As it swished through her hair, tears of terror sprang from her eyes, sliding silently down her face. Mitsuko kept her slender frame from trembling the best she could. She realized it hadn't bitten her, so attacking her wasn't their priority. Not yet anyway.
Patamon froze in terror. KoDukugumon surrounded his partner, one was even on his tamer. His eyes leaked tears of helplessness. He stilled his movements, trying to keep a watchful eye on Mitsuko. He moved against his binds futilely, watching as Dokugumon kept approaching him.
Her fear paralyzed her, until she felt the spider silk loosen around her shoulders. Finally, something was going her way! She looked around, and noticed the sharp rock and contemplated using it to finally release her. Temptation flooded her body, but she knew it was too impulsive. Slowly she worked her shoulders, trying to free her right arm. Her steady rhythm should help keep the KoDokugumon entertained. As they the binds slacked, she slowly let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Slowly, she reached inside of her bag with her free hand. She felt around blindly until her fingers clasped what she was looking for.
With one hand, she slowly opened the pocket knife, and continued to sever the rest of her spider silk prison. She kept the rhythm slow, almost melodic, hoping to keep the KoDokugumon happy. Silently she sent a prayer to the Gods, hoping that this didn't end badly. With a final stroke of her blade, the binding material fell from her body. Mitsuko closed her eyes, and awaited the deadly swarm to descend upon her.

She did it. Against the odds Mitsuko had properly freed herself, not even startling the KoDokugumon that crowded around her in the process! The silk hit the web oh-so-gently, at which point most of the KoDokugumon pounced it and began tearing into it with all their might. Their little, nubby teeth thankfully weren't doing too much damage, especially when considering how pliable spiderweb was, but they seemed to relish the hunting practice. Sure was a good thing Mitsuko decided not to make any sudden movements, huh?
The main exception was the KoDokugumon currently crawling around Mitsuko's shoulders. He seemed perfectly content with his current position, even crawling a bit to move from her shoulder to atop her head. At that point he plopped down, even going as far as to bunch up a bit of hair into a nest. On top of the disgusting factor of having a baby spider turning itself into a head-pet, it would make moving quickly without disturbing it a lot harder of a feat.
A pity that moving quickly was what would be needed. The main Dokugumon had almost reached Patamon by now, jaws clacking hungrily. The sound of his gnashing jaws was so loud that it practically echoed through the cavern, the web vibrating slightly as it picked up on the sound. Soon, Patamon's vision of Mitsuko would be taken up by the spider's looming shadow, its head bent down low as it tried to get a visual scope on its prey. Once it had gotten close enough it would perform the same orbiting motion it had performed with Mitsuko, trying to get a sense of Patamon's location so that he could properly come in for the kill later. With each orbit he shuffled in a little closer, spiraling towards Patamon like the inevitable hand of fate.

Mitsuko was stunned, she had freed herself of her binds. However she had another issue at hand. Her new 'friend' took refuge in her hair. Carefully she side stepped over the KoDukugumon at her feet, moving with the slightest steps, as to not disturb any of the baby spider digimon. Slowly, she put her knife back into her bag when her hand brushed up against something else that may prove to be useful. With great restraint she tried not to focus on the burrowing spider on her head. She pulled out a package of beef jerky and opened it. Hoping the smell would distract the KoDukugumon, she gently tossed it onto the web, about 6 or 7 feet away from herself. It landed with a small thud, vibrating the web around it.
Patamon watched with horror filled eyes, as Mitsuko freed herself. He closed his eyes, and stopped moving when the Dokugumon started to orbit around him. He needed to get free, and Mitsuko had her own hands full. If only he could just Digivol---. The idea struck him like a thunderbolt. He wasn't able to digivolve, but he could... A small light surrounded Patamon, and then abruptly disappeared. Tokomon then poked its head out of the binds, and wiggled itself free. Tokomon then did the only thing he could think of. He had one shot at this, it had to work! The small pink digimon jumpped with all of its might, the web acting like a trampoline. Once airborne he leapt away from where he had been bound, and fired a Bubble Blow at one of Dokugumon's back legs. He hoped that the minor attack would confuse the Dokugumon long enough to put some distance between them. Tokomon landed with a soft thud on the web, about 10 feet away from his previous location.

The KoDokugumon sniffed the air eagerly once the jerky was torn open. It let out small squeaking noises, and as Mitsuko's hands drifted closer it seemed almost elated. The little guy thought he was getting fed! Unfortunately, instead of being fed, his new dinner was hefted up into the air and flung away. KoDokugumon desperately jumped for it, hopping onto it in mid-air, but the force of Mitsuko's throw was way too strong. Dokugumon and jerky went tumbling in sync, the combo eventually landing on the web. The tiny spider curled around its jerky, practically cuddling it as it began hungrily tearing away at the package. So good!
Patamon would get off a lot more luckily. Tokomon was just small enough to squeeze through the webbing, even as it snugly wrapped around Patamon. As he escaped Dokugumon lunged forward, jaws hungrily slamming around the space Patamon occupied a few seconds ago. Webbing slurped into his mouth like spaghetti as he chewed, eventually spitting the tight wad out in disgust. This wasn't food at all! As he looked around, outrage, he felt a few tiny bubbles splatter into the back of his leg. He tried to find the former Patamon, but with his poor eyesight he wasn't having much luck. In a fury he started jabbing his leg into the web, sending it bouncing and undulating. Maybe he'd find his prey, or maybe he'd knock them over. Either way, he was getting really furious at them.
At the very least, the KoDokugumon were too busy bouncing around like popcorn to actually be a threat now. They squealed and shrieked as they were bounced, filling the air with far too many spider noises for comfort.

Mitsuko breathed a sigh of relief when the KoDukugumon jumped off of her. She didn't have much time to celebrate though. She needed to make sure he didn't come back to his makeshift nest. Mitsuko whirled around, and scouted the area out. Dokugumon bent over and slurped the area where Patamon had been. Mitsuko's mouth was frozen in horror, as tears continued to stream down her face, until she noted a small pink digimon landing on the web. Tokomon!
Tokomon noted that Mitsuko was also spider free. With a sigh of relief, he nodded at Mitsuko. They had made it this far, they could do this. Mitsuko moved to the northern part of the web, where she found a small ledge. She climbed up, and was glad for the firm ground beneath her feet. "Tokomon, lets do this!" She pulled out her digivice and watched as the light of digivolution surrounded Tokomon.
"Tokomon digivolve to... Patamon!" Patamon flew above the web, keeping a safe distance between him and Dokugumon. "Boom Bubble!" Patamon inflated himself, and shot out a burst of air towards the Dokugumon.

Even with his bad eyesight, the bright flash of a Digivolution was hard to avoid noticing. Dokugumon cringed as Tokomon lit up, the bright flash eventually changing him from Tokomon to Patamon. Nevertheless, in Dokugumon's mind he only needed one name.
Dinner. And a really stubborn, annoying one, too.
Nevertheless, a Boom Bubble was probably the worst possible move to fire at Dokugumon. He strained, tensing his body in preparation for a leap once he noticed any sign of attack. From his perspective, Patamon simply swelled up and nothing happened. Then he was suddenly smashed in the face by a nigh-invisible pulse of wind, defying all of his expectations of an incoming attack. It stung, but it didn't do much in the way of disabling; Dokugumon were Champions after all, and fairly hardy ones as well.
Dokugumon stumbled back a bit at first, but soon dug his feet into the webbing and regained his bearings. He raised his head high and bellowed a roar of challenge toward Patamon, then let his mouth linger open. A cone of poison barbs began firing from out of his throat, filling the airspace around Patamon at surprisingly great speeds. While his aim was somewhat off due to his poor eyesight, the attack was wide spread enough to make it not matter as much. They were laced with a paralytic venom, and if enough stuck into Patamon it would make flying around much tougher.
The KoDokugumon seemed aware a fight was going on now. They raised their hands in the sky and started scuttling back and forth, as if cheering on their boss.

When the Boom Bubble hit Dokugumon, Patamon gave a brief cheer. "Haha! Direct hit!" He flapped around the air, looking at the Spider Digimon. When the Roar of Challenge was declared Patamon answered back with a witty quip. "Wow, dental hygiene is so not your forte is it?" Patamon looked back at his tamer with a small wink, only to notice the look of horror on Mitsuko's face. Mitsuko couldn't even scream a warning, as Patamon was blasted with the poisonous attack hit his right side. Patamon yelled in agony as the barbs hit him. He reeled against the pain, focusing all his attention on protecting Mitsuko. He couldn't give in to Dokugumon's attack. He still had some fight left in him, even if it was difficult to manage. "I'm... okay... Suki-chan!" Patamon called to her in labored breaths.
The KoDokugumon's cheering was eerie and unsettling to Mitsuko. She had to help her partner, she just had to! Mitsuko knew that Patamon couldn't withstand many more attacks, or they both would become spider chow! Mitsuko looked through her bag, trying to find something... anything to help her partner out. Meanwhile Patamon just kept his distance, trying to find an angle to attack Dokugumon, where he wouldn't be in direct danger. Mitsuko then remembered how the both types of spider digimon reacted to Patamon and herself earlier. Their eyesight was weakened. She then remembered something her science teacher once told her. An idea formulated in her head, Mitsuko scouted the cavernous room. Yes, it might actually work!
Frantically, Mitsuko closed her bag, and pulled her violin out of its case. She had only half paid attention to the lesson, because it delt with spiders. But the words echoed within her head, as if burned there.
"Spiders, although having eight eyes, have poor eyesight. They rely on touch and sound when hunting prey." Her professor taught her.
Mitsuko raised her violin to her chin, pausing the bow briefly on the strings as her teacher's final words echoed...
"As with all creatures, when once sensory system is diminished, another heightens itself to make up the difference..."
As a trained musician, it almost killed Mitsuko to do what she did next. The pain of losing Patamon was too great a price. She played the most awful, screeching, high pitched noises she could upon her beloved violin. She opened her eyes when she heard the screeching vibrating around the room. She hoped this worked...

Dokugumon's heard the tell-tale sound of stuck prey. It was like music to his ears. His jaw lowered, slowly and hungrily, as he began crawling in Patamon's direction. The KoDokugumon scuttled after him, their own jaws drooping open in sync with that of their boss. Their advance was legion, inevitable, and they were seemingly waiting for Patamon to touch down and fall into their maws. He could only run and hide for so long, after all.
That was when the screech went echoing through the cave. Immediately Dokugumon buckled, throwing up his hands and covering his ears. The KoDokugumon weren't so lucky, the noise immediately overwhelming their still-developing ears. They stumbled on the web as if drunk, shrieking loudly from the ear trauma. This didn't help matters for the original Dokugumon at all, the violin screech and shrieking spiderlings adding up to give him a horrible case of sensory overload. He began stumbling away from Patamon, letting out groans and growls while desperately clawing at the air.
He seemed shut down for a while, and with the sound bouncing off of the cave walls Mitsuko wouldn't even have to keep playing. The lingering echoes would leave Dokugumon in an awful state, and now the exits to the web were left completely unobstructed. The worst that Mitsuko would have to deal with were the KoDokugumon, who were still running all over the web. If she tripped over them, the result could be quite unpleasant.
If she checked on where Pumpkinmon once sat, she would notice simply a large, webbed-up ball hanging from the ceiling. While there was no sign of Pumpkinmon himself, it still twitched and shook as if something, or someone, was still inside of it.

Upon hearing the uproar from the spider type Digimon, Mitsuko felt relief flood her body. It had worked. Quickly Mitsuko packed her violin back into her bag. "Patamon this way!" Mitsuko called from the stone landing. Again, a voice echoed inside of her head...
"It's good karma to help out a stranger, especially when that stranger's gonna get eaten by spiders."
Pumpkinmon. He was, potentially, still in danger! "Patamon, I know your weak, but we need to try and save Pumpkinmon!" Mitsuko shouted to her partner. "Use a slamming attack!" Patamon didn't need to be told twice. With a couple flaps of his wings, he charged up, and slammed into the bundle, they assumed, that held Pumpkinmon. Patamon's attack carried him, and the bundle right towards Mitsuko.
Mitsuko's natural instincts kicked in, as she caught both her partner and the bundle into her arms. She didn't look back as she turned on her heel and ran as fast as she could down the corridor. She made a right, then a left. Another left then a right. These caverns were confusing, but she wanted to put as much space between herself and the potentially murderous spider digimon! Upon reaching a small alcove, she ducked inside, and put Patamon into her lap.
She dug through her first aid kit and found a bottle of anti-venom. She wasn't sure if Human medicine worked on Digimon, but it was worth a try! "Patamon, I don't know if this will work, but please take these." Mitsuko pleaded her partner. Weakly, Patamon opened his mouth, and the musician popped two tablets into his mouth. After swallowing them Patamon laid his head upon Mitsuko's knee, and started to rest. The musician then grabbed her knife from her bag, and cut open the bundle that once held Pumpkinmon.

Dokugumon roared in consternation as Mitsuko made a break for it, as if furiously trying to drag her back. He could tell she was escaping from the vibrations beneath his feet, but with his ears ringing so badly he was having one hell of a time making out her position. As the vibrations from her feet faded away, and then eventually stopped, he grumbled and went back to his web. In time, more prey would come. Why bother wasting so much energy chasing such a stubborn one? He hunkered down once more in the center, the KoDokugumon clustering around him and mewling.
Thankfully, though, Mitsuko didn't have to worry about that. She was safe from harm now, her blind run through the cave sending her far, far away from the Dokugumons. She would finally have the chance to catch her breath. The cave itself was surprisingly quiet, silence occasionally pierced by the sound of dripping water. Far away from the illuminated web, darkness had mostly overtaken her position. While anything within arm's reach could be made out through shadowy illumination, it would take serious eye strain to see the rest of her surroundings. If she did, she would notice the thin, dusty outlines of spider webs occasionally stretching across the cave walls. These webs were mostly clustered against four exits; the eastern exit she had ran through, the western exit directly in front of her, and two exits north and south.
As she cut open Pumpkinmon's webbings, she would find something inside of there indeed! However, instead of Pumpkinmon himself, it was a note.
Jeez, you actually came back for me? I'm the host! Nothing bad ever happens to me. Well, except that Veemon who exploded my face and crashed a chariot into me. Kid has issues, what are you gonna do?
Anyway, I'm not the one in need of a hand, but there's a guy who's in a bit of a sticky situation himself. Could say he's been 'wrapped up' in some problems. If you want to pay him a visit, I'd keep on heading straight. If not . . . well, crap, was it north or south?
Stay strong, kid. You're halfway there!
Attached to the note were a jungle machete and an unlit torch. Score!
