Barry's face was red with concentration as he tried to keep up a running pace. His muscles and lungs ached for a rest but the ex-tamer continued to push himself forward. Today Barry was dressed in workout clothes, in particular long sleeved nylon pants and a light jacket over a plain white t-shirt. This was one his conditioning days where he was focusing on repairing the damage the year of sleep had caused to his body. His atrophied muscles and lack of enough strength would only hinder him later if he didn't make the effort to reverse the effects of his coma now.
Eventually Barry came to a full stop and doubled over almost immediately. He took large gasping breaths as he struggled to remain balanced. He had been pushing himself farther and farther everyday, but sometimes it seemed like he was only taking baby steps in the right direction as opposed to a giant leap which he would have preferred. After a few minutes he was able to situate himself so he was sitting up straight. He removed his cane which was tied to his back and used it to stand up.
Barry dusted himself off as he felt a chill run through him. Though it wasn't the coldest day today the decrease in his body heat was beginning to make him feel a tad uncomfortable. Barry brought his hands up to his mouth to breath warm air into them, rubbing them to keep his blood circulating. As Barry put his hands in his pockets a surprised look crept onto his face as he discovered his broken digivice occupying his right pocket. He pulled it out while looking skeptically at the thing. Had he instinctively taken it with him out of some old reflex?
Barry sighed as he took a seat to think about things for a few minutes. He'd only been in the human world for about two weeks and was in the process of rebuilding his life, but he hadn't remembered anything about his time as a tamer.

With another day off of work, Asher decided to finally get out for another run. It felt like it had been a while! But, at the same time, the teen didn't feel winded in the slightest. At least exercise in the Digital World seemed to still help him keep in shape in this world! But, how useful was it to be a Digimon, as far as his actual body went?
Runs were great for clearing his head. At least, until he finally began to run out of breath. And then all the problem that the redhead was trying to outrun would surely catch up with him. Unless, of course, he found another distraction! Slowing to a brisk walk, Asher began to look around the park. Were there any activities for him to preoccupy himself with? A few people were playing some sort of game, some couples scattered around that he did not want to interrupt, and some guy sitting alone.
It looked like someone was an unfortunate winner of the ex-actor's attention! And, it wasn't going to be all the people that had others to chat with! The teen's pace slowed further, making his way toward the stranger, who seemed to be holding something. Oh, maybe it wasn't a good time to try to make friends!
Habitually, Asher found himself pulling out his phone to check for messages. Nothing. Of course, Piper was busy studying, and Whiskers didn't have fingers to text with, so it made sense that nobody would be interested in distracting him! Now, his thoughts were trying to catch up to him, and the teen found himself standing in front of the seated stranger, shoving his phone into his pocket.
Yellow eyes glanced to see if he could spot what the other person had been holding, before a smile slipped onto his lips. "Hey! How's it going?" With that, there was only a quick pause before a much more gentle inquiry of, "would you mind some company?" Try not to come off as a creep, Asher! That was the current goal of this conversation!

Barry's face had an intense look of concentration on it as he tried to remember anything about the past this digivice was linked to. And like all the other times he'd attempted to understand, nothing came up. Barry let out a disappointed sigh, not aware that a stranger had approached him. Barry looked up and jolted in place with a start, the timid guy not expecting someone to be standing there looking over him. Barry spent a moment to look the guy up and down to get an idea of who he was dealing with, but he didn't seem like a suspicious person at all.
"I uhhh...I guess I don't mind having someone to talk to. I wasn't really doing much beforehand anyway." Barry said as he leaned back against the wooden bench. He placed the digivice back within his pants pockets as he refocused his attention to the newcomer. He was a bit curious of the guy's red hair, had he dyed it himself or did something else happen to change its color? He didn't feel intrigued enough to warrant a question but it was the most apparent observation he could make none the less.
"So, my name's Barry. How're you?" Barry asked, trying to be friendly. Barry had a bit of a timid look to him as he addressed Asher, with a half smile on his lips. What gave him the timid look were his eyes, which seemed to look around with a sense of insecurity. While waiting for some kind of a response Barry would proceed to place his cane on the bench as well since he wouldn't be needing it for a little while, he assumed.

Wow, this guy really seemed focused! Asher almost felt bad for interrupting his thoughts! Almost. At the same time, maybe it was for the best! It really wasn't healthy to think too much on something, right? "Well, you looked like you were concentrating pretty hard, so I'd hate to interrupt whatever you were doing, if it was important," the teen hummed, innocently. What had he been holding? It looked awfully familiar, but it was seriously unwise to make assumptions about the subject!
"I'm Asher," the redhead was quick to introduce. So informal! He'd been under the impression that people used their last names more in introductions, before the young man had moved here. But, it seemed like half the people he met never provided a last name! Ah well, at least Asher didn't have to give his own last name, if it wasn't requested of him, right? Or did that just make it doubly rude? Whatever. Stop mentally debating these things!
But, it was awfully hard to maintain eye contact with his new acquaintance. Mostly because it didn't seem like the guy was either not interested in it, or he was simply incapable of keeping eye contact. This would be far from the first time that a person wouldn't keep eye contact. Maybe it was discomforting? Stop over-analyzing! None of this was healthy to consider constantly! Just try to be friendly! "I'm great," the teen found himself immediately lying, only to follow with the truth of, "taking a break from a run."
Oh, wasn't it mostly an American thing to talk about yourself when someone asked how you were? Stupid habits. That was one that the actor should learn to break.
"How about you?" Would Asher get an honest answer? Clearly, not expecting a truth, he followed up with, "you look kind of stressed."

Barry looked somewhat surprised, had he really been concentrating that hard on trying to find anything about this digivice. He pursed his lips as he looked away from the guy for a moment, wondering if maybe he should just drop the whole thing. However, the stranger soon introduced themselves as Asher. Barry returned his gaze and stood up, albeit somewhat weakly from his exertion. He stretched his arm out to shake Asher's hand, offering a relaxed smile.
For whatever reason, Barry got the feeling that he wasn't quite blending in with Japanese culture. Then again it wasn't as if he'd even lived in this country for a majority of his life. Coupled with his amnesia he really wasn't expecting himself to keep cultural norms in mind. He hoped that if Asher was more in tune with these kinds of things that he wouldn't mind his poor excuse for cultural blending.
"Nah, I wasn't doing anything too important, just trying to remember some things." he replied, shuffling in place nervously. It was good to hear that Asher was doing well, even if he wasn't someone Barry personally knew that well. So he'd just taken a break from a run himself eh; well at least they had something in common! "Oh, I hear you. I'm doing running to get my body in shape." he stated.
Asher returned the question by asking how Barry was doing. Internally Barry laughed at the question, if he told this guy what left he remembered of his life in addition to his current struggle he wondered if the guy would think he was insane. "I've been alright. Things have been a little hard in my personal life, but things happen." Barry shrugged. "I've been doing a lot of exercising lately, and I'll probably be getting my education back on track soon too, so there's that." he added.

Asher really didn't care if the guy was informal, or focusing on other things. A distraction was a distraction, all the same. And, hey, maybe he'd find something new or interesting out of this interaction! For instance, this person wanted to remember something. That was definitely an interesting thing to state. "Forget something important?" What was an object going to jog, memory-wise? Not that Asher usually cared to remember what was forgotten!
Oh! But they had something in common! This was a good sign! "Oh, cool!" Asher chirped, discreetly glancing over Barry. It did seem that he could use some exercise, didn't it? But, how did one run with a cane? If it wasn't such a blatantly rude question, the teen would have asked! "If you ever want a running partner, I could give you my phone number?" Was that weird to offer? Eh, it wasn't like the young man had to actually ever call or text Asher! Maybe the redhead was just seeing how far his new acquaintance would let him step before being told to stop? After all, what kind of stranger just offers out their phone number?
Other than one that probably intended to change his number in the next month or two, anyway.
Placing a hand in his pocket, the actor let out a small hum. How did one console a stranger? It was hard to tell what the proper move was in such a case. "I know how that is," he tried to empathize. No he didn't. Asher probably went through entirely different situations than this guy! Don't act like he knows what someone else could be going through! "Just keep working toward fixing it. They say that motivation is the key to success?" Who the heck was 'They' anyway? It sure seemed like 'They' had a lot to say. "Or, uh, something like that."
Just give up, Asher.
But, the thought of education made the teen glance over Barry again. What kind of education? "Education's a good thing," the spirit user fidgeted with the items in his pocket, trying to think on if it was weird to pull a conversation from education to age. "How old are you, anyway?" So much for worrying about if it was appropriate!

Barry shrugged as Asher asked him about his age. What was left of his last I.D indicated his age as being 20 or so but Barry hadn't bothered to think deeper about it. "I think I'm 22 now? Honestly I haven't really thought about it that much with everything else going on." he said in reply. He thought his birthday was sometime in the fall, which would have passed by now. Speaking of which, he'd also have to figure out what he was going to be doing next year for school at some point.
"Yeah, basically I've been out of school for a long time now, gotta focus on making a living in the real world you know?" Barry said, unaware that he'd let out a clue from where he'd been for so long. After making his statement Barry pondered Asher's offer. He felt as though in most cases he'd want to make more friends, but he didn't really know the guy too well. He tossed the idea around in his head for a few minutes before deciding to think more about it during the conversation.
"I wasn't really thinking about anything too specific, just something I forgot a while ago." Barry spoke while attempting to remain as anonymous as possible. By speaking this way he wasn't telling a lie per say, just not giving the entirety of the story. If nothing else it made Barry feel less guilty about not being very open with Asher. This guy despite being a complete stranger still seemed like a nice person overall.
Just then, Barry's digivice in his pocket would begin emitting an otherworldly, almost broken beeping noise. The pitch made it sound extremely morose and depressing, as if the device was at death's door. Out of surprise, Barry immediately fished into his pocket, taking out the digivice to look at it intensely. It was the first time the thing had responded to anything since he'd been given it from Gatomon back in the digital world.
Barry gulped in a mixture of fear and excitement, did this mean his partner had found their way back to the human world?!

"You think," Asher found himself echoing, unable to wrap his head around that. How did someone forget their own age? While, normally, the redhead would play oblivious on the statement, he found it impossible not to point out how out of place this sounded!
Then again, Barry seemed out of place, in general. Flashing a smile at the comment of the real world, Asher slipped in a, "I might know." Or, maybe not! Don't assume! "It's pretty easy to forget about responsibilities around here, isn't it?" In Japan? Or the human world in general? The best answer to that was yes. Life was so much-- Actually, scratch that thought. Life wasn't easier before the Digimon thing came into the mix. Prior to Japan, it was just commitment and drama. This felt like a cakewalk in comparison!
Looking to the sky, the teen shrugged. "If it's important, you'll remember it eventually." Or not! But, he had to be optimistic! And, a nice day like today needed optimism. Save gloom for a day that it was down-pouring or something! It also just felt like the other guy could use some positive statements. Or, maybe, encouragement? Sometimes, people were hard to read when it came to the proper reactions to give to them!
Asher tried to ignore the depressing sound of an old device, continuing to avoid looking at Barry. But, when no cover-story was made for the object, the redhead looked back down. A small smile slipped across his lips, as he debated his choice in words. "Thought that's what you were holding," he hummed, with a tilt of his head. "So, I know what mine means when it makes a sound," he pointed out, softly. After all, his went off when an available spirit fell into range! Or, at least, that's what he had gathered from his experiences. "But, what's it mean for your kind of digivice?"

ooc: I'm sorry this took so long! Things have been a touch busy IRL!
Barry returned Asher's question with a worried look before shrugging at him. "Honestly, I don't really know. I... guess the cat's out of the bag that I used to be a tamer." Barry said scratching the back of his head, feeling slightly embarrassed. Well, that was smooth, now Barry had revealed a little too much to this guy who he was still learning things about. The question of the moment changed then, how much should Barry reveal to Asher?
Barry's expression changed as if to think about this sudden conundrum, lying wasn't a strong suit of his after all. Not having much time to think before things would turn uncomfortably weird, Barry spoke up. "So.. the short story is I don't really remember my time as a tamer. This digivice is supposed to be what I used before....but I've got no clue what happened to my partner." Barry said plainly. His gaze had returned to the digivice, whose static like sounds began to grow quieter.
Barry's eyes widened as he looked for any other sign of life from the piece of machinery. After another minute had passed it had seemingly kicked the bucket yet again. The Ex-tamer rolled his eyes and placed his digivice back into his pocket with a look of annoyance. Not wanting to make things weirder he decided to continue the train of conversation between the two of them.
"So...uhhh.. Asher, you said you had a digivice too right? What kind of power do you have?" he asked, genuinely curious about his new acquaintance.

((That's fine! Real life always comes first! :3 ))
Used to be a tamer? That was an interesting statement. Asher wasn't really aware that people could stop being associated with the whole Digimon thing, after it came crashing down like a ton of bricks. While normally, Asher wouldn't allow for such a long silence from himself in the conversation, he really had to think this over!
In the meantime, Barry continued to explain a little bit about the subject, which was great for Asher's thought process. Luckily, the 'maybe he died' response that almost fell from the teen's mouth was caught, and quickly replaced with, "well, if your digivice is making sounds, he's got to be out there, right?" Be the optimist that you've always wanted to be, Asher!
Then again, since the item silenced again, maybe it was just broken. "It doesn't get louder if you move it around, or show a map or anything, does it?" Those seemed like important keys to figuring out the reason for the sounds, right? Or, at least, establishing if it was just a piece of junk at this point. That poor, little electronic looked like it had seen far better days!
But, now the subject was turned onto him. "Oh, I just turn into a bunch of nightmarish women," he mumbled, off-hand. Then, the teen paused, awkwardly, as he processed that he had just said that aloud. Abort, abort! "Wow, that came out wrong! I'm not being sexist, I swear," he insisted, as he rapidly pulled the D-Tector from his pocket, and held it to show his new acquaintance. "I'm a Spirit User," with a small grumble, the teen added, "who conveniently can only turn into female Digimon. Nightmare Soldiers, or something? I don't remember what Whiskers called them." Heck, even the crow had a female voice! Maybe the next one would be a little more forgiving. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't feel like people were judging him for having such an oddly 'specific' collection of spirits!
