Corrupted Earth [N-Rank Mission] 5/5

Coredramon lamented the current state of the Western flatlands. He remembered growing up as a Dracomon in the Valley of Dragons, where the mood with his friends was much more positive than it was now. Even if the place was naturally dry, it was never as bad as this.
Now, as he flew over the landscape toward the ruins, it was just so dusty and devoid of life. The digimon lived day to day by having Trailmons deliver their food and water. It was like... the ground had nothing left to offer.
The green and white dragon saw the ruins ahead, reducing height. It was obvious to anyone that here was the cause of the corruption. The ground around it was black, with dark data rising like smoke around the entrance. There was something very wicked and evil in that ruin. But Coredramon was no fighter. Yes he could spot the gleam of a coin from 100 yards in the sky. But fighting? Especially in closed quarters like the ruins? No, that wasn't his forte at all.
Hence his idea to hire some help to do it. And so he had arranged for a notice to be put in the main tavern of Rustport, notifying those that might be able to complete this mission. Whether they were humans or digimon, Coredramon didn't mind. Just as long as they can get in there, see what was happening and get out again.
Five prospective adventurers had answered his call. Well, six, but Coredramon wasn't sure if that Impmon had the right number, calling him 'babe' and other flirtatious things and hanging up abruptly when Coredramon revealed that his name was "Coredramon and not "Coroney". But that was irrelevant.
And so Coredramon landed in front of the ruins, dust rising under his wings as he slowed his descent. And there he waited for the people he had hired to appear.
OOC: Just come along to the ruins. You would have come across a notification from Coredramon in Rustport town and communicated with him to say that you'll show up).

The Leon made his way to Rustport City, and was perusing the technology that was present throughout the city. He was so enthralled, and caught up in the moment until he saw a notification go across a digital screen in the city square. The message gave a means to get in touch with the Coredramon. Without a second thought the Leormon was ready to plunge into adventure.
He relayed the following message to the coredramon.
“Hey Coredramon I saw that you were requesting assistance from some Digimon, and I would gladly lend a paw. I may be a rookie, but I am not limited to that I can armor digivolve to an armor champion. I will arrive there soon I am in Rustport City so it shouldn't take me long to get there.”
The lion quickly prepared himself to battle the mighty threat that was causing then so much harm. Running outside of the city a bright flame would engulf him. “Leormon armor digivolve to” The flame would disperse revealing a larger fire lion that leapt into the air. “Firamon, the burning passion!” The lion then quickly travelled to the outer reaches of the city standing before Coredramon. A bright light would engulf the hero as he de evolved back to his rookie stage.
The haunting memory of when he received his armor form in these very ruins. He would shiver, and would turn his attention to the Coredramon with a smile on his face. “This place appears to be worse from the last time I travelled here I would be proud to help you. Leon reporting for duty.” He would mutter placing his left paw at his forehead.

The Tsukaimon reached Rustport City, it was great not having to use the human disguise for a while as it was rather annoying him having to look like a human. Rustport was a great place for technology and definitely a visit worth by itself. But for now Tsukaimon was here in a partly different errand, a rumor that a powerful energy of sorts had corrupted the ruins. Whatever that force is, Tsukaimon is interested in it. It was inevitable that when Coredramon made a notification about corruption within the ruins, Tsukaimon would be among the firsts to respond. "Of course I will help you Coredramon, I shall personally make sure that the ruins with be freed from the corruption. You can count on me."
When Tsukaimon showed up, it brought him slight annoyance to see a holy digmon being among the group though it was to expected this was something he had hoped to avoid. But Gulfmon wasn't going to let this stop him from keeping his word to Coredramon and a holy digimon is still better than a human by far. In the end, Tsukaimon could cope with having to work together with a holy digimon for a while. Especially since they were working for the same goal for the time being and being hostile would only be counterproductive for everyone, including Tsukaimon himself. Mana @silvac Trey

Trey, Bulk and Skull were enjoying a rather leisurely morning at Rustport City. It was only the third time that the twin Digimon had taken their human partner to the Digital World and their visit, so far, was just like the others. Sightseeing, checking out the local stalls, fighting off anti-human Digimon and of course, running away from angry mobs. The three of them took refuge in a small ally that looked out onto one of the main street. Trey and the Agumon 'Bulk' sat on an old crate that was well shaded from the sun but the Gabumon 'Skull' had taken notice of something in the street. Coredramon's request was being repeated on one of those flashy screens and when Skull pointed it out to the other two, it only took them a moment before agreeing to help out.
"Hello Mr.Coredramon, my name is Skull. My brother and human partner have seen your request and we will be glad to help in any way possible." With that said, the three of them caught the next available Trailmon that was heading in that direction or close to it, knowing that the tracks would only take them so far and they would have to walk the rest of the way. It was still a fair distance to walk though. They could have made Skull Digivolve into Raidramon and rode him there but they were worried as to what they might encounter and didn't want to go using up all of their energy.
When they had arrived, Trey stood on one foot and lifted the other, taking off his shoe and turning it upside to down tip out the dirt, sand and pebbles that had accumulated in his footwear, tapping it a few times to make sure and proceeded to do the same with the other. Bulk flopped to the ground to relax a little before the actual mission started and Skull approached to declare themselves. "Hello, I am Skull." He then indicated to the other two. "My brother Bulk and my human partner Trey." The two of them both raised a hand to say hello just before Trey pulled out of his backpack several bottles of water for everyone to drink.

"Why are we doing this, [again]?" If anything, Suzuran hadn't lost the habit of questioning any and all the actions Mana thought about doing or actually did. This plan, however, was probably rightfully questioned by the fairy. Just... "Why are we going to meet with some lizard at the entrance of some ruins and then have to team up with... more humans, possibly? I just do not understand why this was your idea of an entertaining day, Mana. We could have done other things. You know, of the productive kind."
She didn't bother to conceal how displeased she was at this turn of events, that was for sure. The redhead, however, was fazed her partner's attitude. In all honesty... she seemed to be amused by it. "This will be fun, I promise! Besides, chances are that we're going to fight against whatever's inside that place. Shouldn't you be happy about it?"
"Fight alongside other, probably incompetent digimons? I am glad I do not have a stomach or anything of the sort because I would be puking right now if I did. But I guess we will just have to finish the job before going back to non-disgusting things." At least their short walk ended rapidly. Before they noticed it, they could see Coredramon at the distance, his figure alongside... other human and more digimons. Just as they had expected.
"Hiiiii~!" Mana called out, smiling brightly at the group. "Sorry for arriving late~! We're here for the work!"

The spirit user put down his digivice with a frown; his spirits had once again told him what needed to be done and how to go about it. Corruption aside; they were incredibly interested in something that could affect such a wide plot of land. It warrented investigating and the fact that the coredramon was willing to pay people to look for the source was just the cherry on top. The information was simple; the location easy to find... The only thing that made this whole... mission have a note of worry was that there was four others that would be partaking in it.
With a shake of his head he left Rustport; the distance between nothing in comparison to the effort of old. He paused as one of his spirits addressed the fact they likely were using up sorely needed time; who knew if they could reverse the effect of the land even if they found the source?
Lets just fly there; we'll make better time.
all right lets go.
With a grumble the spirit user shifted from human to the towering reaper like digimon. The spirit left the ground and quickly glided a dozen or so feet off of said ground. Easily reducing what might of been a irritating trek to something that took maybe less than an hour. Ruins peeked out in the distance and kan pressed forward; about five minutes later kan Landed maybe thirty or so feet away from the others. He'd dust off the robes and pad the rest of the distance gauging what he had to work with based on what he could immediately see.
Two digimon and or spirits.... Two humans with their digimon. Certainly a group that can cover a decent amount of range...
With a little bow the spirit user introduced himself.
"Greetings, I'm reavermon: a rookie-tier spirit digivolution. Coredramon is this everyone?

Coredramon was delighted when the groups arrived. He counted among them an independent Leormon, who dutifully reported in with a salute. "Well met then, sonny" Coredramon said, giving a casual salute in return. Growing up in the wild valley of dragons, Coredramon both respected military discipline, but conducted conversations in an informal manner.
A second independent digimon appeared, this one was a Tsukaimon. Coredramon merely acknowledged him with a nod. As a Green Coredramon, he didn't particularly mind virus attributes, being one himself.
The third group appeared soon after. Coredramon wasn't really surprised that humans were joining in on this mission. And he didn't mind either, the humans seemed to be taking it upon themselves to do what they could to cleanse the digital world from evil and wrongdoings, so that was fine with him. "Heya, you three" he said, noting that the Agumon and Gabumon were twins. He hoped they knew what they were in for here, twin rookie levels were kind of vulnerable. But he wouldn't have consented to them being here if he thought they couldn't handle it.
The next to arrive seemed to be another pair of twins with a human partner. Coredramon blinked - these were digimon that he had never seen before. They seemed to be loosely related to flowers by his understanding. He hoped they would be alright, given the effect of the corruption on the plantlife so far in the area. "Welcome" he said.
And the last to arrive was... another digimon Coredramon hadn't heard of. A Reavermon? Ah, a Spirit evolution, so this was a human fused with a digimon spirit. "Yes, that appears to be everyone" Coredramon said, standing in front of the group to address them, his wings folded on his back as he stood sidelong to the ruins, the ground below a vivid dark brown.
"Well then, hopefully you can tell what the problem is here" Coredramon said to the group. "There's been a corruption affecting the Western Flatlands that's made this place infertile, dry and dead. There's something affecting the soil below us that's blocking its ability to generate living data. Needless to say, we have to import a lot of our food from other regions, but, the corruption in the ground seems to be spreading".
He paced a little, looking sadly around at the barren surroundings.
"And the research team I work for has concluded that the corruption is originating from in there" he continued, pointing to the ruins. A black mist seemed to be rising from the holes in the ancient ruins. "I don't know what the cause of it is, because I only felt capable of entering the outer chamber, but, I'm willing to pay you all a good fee to go in and see what the matter is".
He looked a bit regretful at the decision. "I don't feel good asking you lot to do a job when I can't guarantee your safety, but, I'm still willing to pay you to at the least attempt and if you can go no further, to return and tell me what you saw".
He supposed he'd best tell the conditions of what he would pay to see this job done.
"If you manage to remove the source of this corruption and come out alive, I'm willing to pay you each the full amount" he said. "But if you manage to see anything about the corruption that would be useful to know in a future mission, then I'll pay you each a smaller fee. Would that be agreeable?"
As he awaited the answer, he noticed there were a lot of smaller digimon among them. Well, he hoped they could digivolve at least a little. But he knew that most of them could already.
"Now then. Are there any questions?" he asked.

The lion pride digimon would watch as the group would slowly begin to come together. The first other than himself to attive was a Tsukaimon, and his presence made him feel uneasy. He was here to aid Coredramon so the lion didn't have a problem with his attendance. Then the next to arrive was a blonde haired boy named Trey, and his twin partners Bulk and Skull. Then a spirit wielder, and a girl named Mana arrived. The group seemed to be well suited to handle whatever might present itself to them.
The coredramon would begin his introductions to the group that had offered him assistance. The dragon would speak to him returning his salute out of respect to the young digimon. “I will do my best to serve your cause.” He would nod his head lowering his paw back down to the ground. There was a dark eerie feeling in the area that he had never experienced before. What could possibly be causing so much discord in this area of the digital world?
The dragon began to speak of the difficulty of the job, and had agreed to compensate them for their service. Even if they were unable to defeat the threat if they could identify it they would also receive monetary gain. This was good news to the group because this threat was definitely evil, and there was no way of gauging the magnitude of the threat.
“A digimons word is his pride. I agreed to aid in the elimination of the threat, and I intend to see this through. I personally have had some experience in these ruins, and will utilize that knowledge to help eliminate the threat.”

The group was getting crowded though that was to be expected, after-all the digital world is a large place with several residents. What annoyed Tsukaimon the most was that at least two of the group were humans; a blonde boy named Trey and a girl named Mana. Only one human in the group seemed remotely tolerable, a spirit user who used a reavermon. On the other hand, a human might as well be a good meat shield when it comes to a fight and as a rookie, Tsukaimon did not feel like he could do everything on his own yet. Therefore it was necessary to keep his disgust on a minimum for the time being while working together with humans, a thought that almost made Tsukaimon barf.
Well, a job is a job so might as well listen to the instructions rather than complaining.
So it seems like this corruption is able to block out the ability to generate living data, a fact that Tsukaimon found rather interesting. Coredramon didn't know a lot about what the corruption was or why it was here and that was apparently why they were here. Finally, it seemed like even if they fail to stop the corruption they still get paid as long as they can provide said valuable information. That was very useful and as such Tsukaimon decided not to use the opportunity to ask questions.

Trey and Skull listened to Coredramon's every word, taking in everything he had to stay and understanding everything that was possible. The human couldn't help but feel sad for the Digimon, not just Coredramon but all the Digimon living within the area. It really did pull at his heart strings... Nope... That is his shirt sleeve. "Trey..." Bulk was beside Trey, tugging at his shirt and whispering in desperation while Coredramon was still within his speech. "What is it?" Trey asked, whispering back to his partner. Skull had already covered his face and shook his head, knowing what was going on already and instead took a step forward, away from the two of them to listen to Coredramon some more. "I need to go to the bathroom." The orange Digimon whispered. "You were told to go before we left." Trey whispered bag, irritation in his voice as he turned to face the front again. The Agumon reached down and held his hands between his legs, shifting his weight from one foot to the other in a kind of desperate dance. "That was a number one. Now I need to do a number two." He growled softly, just enough for Trey and Skull to hear.
As soon as Coredramon had finished speaking, Trey took a step forward and raised his hand as if he was in a school classroom. "Excuse me, Mr. Coredramon." Skull was in front of Trey but was a little taken by surprise due to his Tamer's sudden actions. "I have two questions." Trey stated. "The first question is if we will have a short moment to prepare before entering?" He asked, though he was embarrassed to ask because he wasn't requiring time to prepare, he was requiring time for his partner Digimon to go to the potty before they left, which the Agumon was already darting away to find a rock to 'hide' behind. "My other question is, if we manage to stop the corruption. Is there any thought as to what might happen?" Trey had seen his fair share of Indiana Jones movies to know that usually when something is fixed, something breaks. Does that mean the ruins will collapse once the corruption is dealt with? These were the kind of things he was wondering but primarily, he just hoped the lands would be restored to their original form. He didn't know what they used to look like so it was something he would like to see.

In all honesty, the whole thing seemed simple enough, at least for Mana. Get inside, get rid of whatever's killing the soil, then get out and finally get paid. As long as everyone did what they could to ensure this would be a success, this would be easy.
"All the conditions seem fair to me." The girl said, not bothering to hide the excitement she felt; going inside an ancient, probably unexplored place, kicking butts and even getting paid in the end! Who'd complain to such terms? "I'm ready to begin as soon as everyone else is!"
Of course, she wasn't the only one with an opinion about this. And while Ayaka greeted everyone present with a slight bow, Suzuran was already... being her. "Regarding the payment, it is a fixed amount per member of this group, or a pool that gets distributed among the participants? You know, just in case somebody does not return..." In all honesty, she preferred for it to be that way, but given Coredramon's mostly good disposition and the fact that the aforementioned payment method was prone to create enmity among the group, she didn't expect too much. Gazing at the group, she just shrugged. "Hopefully I will not get to carry a lot of dead weight this time."

Given the lack of information on the type of source this could be Kan found himself wondering if they'd end up fighting perhaps a digimon that was at the heart of all this. Coredramon even allowed them a lit of maneuvering if they failed which was next to unheard of really. The quadreped digimon seemed to have something with honor, the other sole digimon didn't seem like much of a talker; he could respect that. The other humans and their digimon both had questions. Their youth certainly brandished naivety; their natures reminded the spirit user of others from a time far longer ago than he'd like to think about.
A shake of the head and he found himself looking at the ruins; one of the many zones he had actually yet to step foot into. He had no doubt however that he could likely pass up any dangers within unless it was an actual digimon or two that decided they were worth tangling with. All considering it was likely the best idea to let the Lion digimon go first or at least near the front, seeing as though there was experience in this area.
"The terms are agreeable as if they were not I expect you'd have fewer people stepping forward. A single foray here should suffice in locating the source... "
He bristled at the comment about carrying weight. He didn't really expect anyone else her to pick up after one another. Eyes turned to the digimon; one that he didn't recognize... alas the world was large here and he was simply a single dark pearl in it.
"We're allies here when it comes to locating this source, nothing more nothing less. I do not expect any one of you to step forward unto a blade for me. Nor would you find myself doing the same; lest it be a foe that I find myself desiring destruction upon."
With a snort he'd turn his attention to the lion Digimon; there was information still yet to be gleamed. Any knowledge ahead of time would be useful to him and the others if they didn't know already.
"You've had experience in this place, are there any traps or residents that we should be aware of that may wish us ill?"

Coredramon was pleased that Leon had appeared to be in these ruins before. Even better that he came out of them alive. "That's good. Hopefully you would know that the digimon that made these ruins... somewhat enjoyed making puzzles then?" he asked, raising his eye-ridge.
"While I haven't seen them myself, I have heard tales from ruin explorers that there are some mysteries in these ruins. However, the puzzles and traps tend to be merely an annoyance rather than being fatal" he looked up at the entrance to the ruined temple. "However, the corrupted data may have changed that, so be very careful, and use your wits when you need to".
The Tsukaimon didn't ask any questions. Which was fine. Then the boy Trey asked if they could have a break first. "Um, yes, you can go in when you're ready" he said. "It's some distance from Rustport, I don't expect you to go in right away" he chuckled.
He then asked what would happen if the corruption was dealt with. "Well, I assume that if you manage to remove the corruption, the state of the ruins would return to how they were before" he said. "Although since the corruption is in the earth itself, its removal may cause a shift in the ground. I'd advise you to get out as soon as possible, the ruins might not be stable afterward".
Coredramon then looked at the orange plant digimon. "It's a fixed amount of payment per participant" he said. It would not be a shared pool, that may cause... issues. "10,000 bits each for removing the corruption, 2,000 bits for information about its source" he repeated.
Then the spirit wielder saide the terms were agreeable, and asked the lion digimon for his experiences in the ruins. Coredramon was kind of curious too.
"Well then. When you're ready, feel free to enter" he said.

The lion would then hear the words of the elder dragon that appeared to have interest in the fact that he had been to the ruins. “Well the last time I was here I was desperate to find power a means for survival, and just happened to stumble upon the ruins. I began scouring the ruins, and mid way through the journey I stumbled upon a Guardromon that had been programmed to protect the ruins. I guess he was glitching, and was unaware of the state of the area. He tried to destroy me, and I ran like any rookie would then I discovered a digimental, and armor digivolved, and used my newfound power to escape. I didn’t really journey too far in before I met him; I didn’t destroy him I fled because taking his life wasn’t the answer to this problem.”
The lion then sighed thinking about his near death experience with the iron giant Guardromon. His thoughts would be broken by the plant digimon asking the earth dragon if he was going to have a pool of money for the group as a whole or individually. The greed of the plant type digimon began to set root in the mind of the small lion. The lion would begin to get angry, but would sigh to allow him to get a clear picture. How could someone’s first question be how are you going to pay us. The dragon would then speak of the money being set for the individuals. ”Bits can be something that corrupts the best of digimon; I believe that his way is best.” Leon would walk off from the group, and would lay down in the warm sand looking out at the group. He heard the tamer with the twins request a break before entering. “Ready when you guys are.”

It annoyed Tsukaimon a lot to hear that a human like Trey was delaying them because he apparently couldn't be bothered to prepare properly for a mission.
"Do we have to drag it along us?" He asked offhand while indicating Trey was an "it", barely acknowledging him as a person. It wasn't obvious whether that question was a serious one or just a tease and even a person able to read people would struggle to tell if Tsukaimon was joking. Ironically, it seemed once again like he was more fond of Kan though it would probably be a bad idea to point this out to him. Mana, the human girl asked for payment and it pleased him to know that no matter what will happen Tsukaimon will get paid. That way it didn't mattered too much for Tsukaimon how they got rid of the corruption as long as the task was done. At worst he could just tell Coredramon some stories and call it a day.
Apparently also Leon would take a break all of sudden. That was to be expected from a holy digimon, seeing Leon laying on the sand was contributing to Tsukaimon seeing Leon as more a nuisance than an assist. Generally Tsukaimon was getting impatient and he had little to no interest in taking a break right before they had even done anything worthy of a break.
