It's almost 4 am. The neighborhood is quiet. Not a creature is stirring in the Palladino house, except one. Wormmon is downstairs playing video games in the living room. His eyes are starting to turn red from the constant playing. Dante wakes up early and goes downstairs. No surprise, Wormmon is still playing. Dante walks over to the living room. "You know, there's more important things to do than play video games all the time. Life is too short to waste." "Says you! Look who's talking. You play tons of video games."
Wormmon had him there. Dante loves him some video games, even if they are usually older games. Wormmon is all about the latest fad games, the crappy, copy and pasted over from the last game clones that studios dump out every year. "Two wrongs don't make a right. Just, try to get some sleep, little buddy. We'll have all sorts of fun tomorrow." "It's already tomorrow, stupid. It's way past midnight. I'll stop playing in a few more hours." "Whatever." Dante steps outside to the patio for a cigarette, before going back to bed to try and get a few more hours of sleep. "Dante doesn't know what he's talking about. If anything, video games are better than real life."
After a few more rounds of online multiplayer, Wormmon has gunned down countless enemies. Just when his kill streak is about to go off the charts, the game crashes, and returns to the sign in screen. "ALL THE RAAAAGE!" Judith hears Wormmon and yells from upstairs. "Keep it down in there, Wormmon!" *Whispering* "Grrrarrrh, stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid!!!" Wormmon takes the game out and sticks it in the toaster. "Hmph! That oughta show you. Now I need to find a different game to play."
Wormmon goes through Dante's collection of games. The Worm King is getting bored of the new games, and decides to give one of Dante's older games a try. "Ohh, Hero's Quest. Sounds generic, but it looks fun. I think Shirou gave Dante this game." Wormmon pops the disk out and puts it in whatever the hell gaming console is on the shelves this year. As the game loads up, a bright light blue light shines on Wormmon. The light slowly turns dark orange, and the Worm King is downloaded into the game. "Ahh what's going on here?!" Wormmon passes through a dark tunnel with fragments of data swirling around him. He keeps going until suddenly the data current takes him down, like going over a waterfall. Finally, the Worm King is loaded in, and his virtual experience would change his perspective on life forever.

Wormmon appears inside the game, but he has taken the form of a young boy. He looks around and finds himself in some sort of medieval village. "What the? What's going on here?! Am I back in Rabbilot? Did Shirou make this game? This is freaky." Wormmon walks around the village, seeing all sorts of old buildings. If it wasn't for video games, Wormmon probably wouldn't know what buildings used to look like. This was a far cry from Shibuya. He sees a girl with red hair standing outside, waving to him. "Hey brother! It's time for dinner." "Oh, wonderful!"
Wormmon runs inside the house and sits down for a nice meal. "Mmm, chicken and bread. Hey wait, where's the sushi? The cheese?! Oh great, my family in this game is poor." Wormmon eats the meal, but he wishes it was more scrumptious. All of a sudden they hear the town's bells ringing. "That's the alarm! Bandits are attacking!" "What? Bandits?!" A hoard of dirty smelly Humans wearing leather and rags wielding swords and axes swarms down upon the village. "I'll show them! Wait, I can't digivolve inside the game! And I'm still a kid, so my stats are probably next to nothing."
A scary looking bandit breaks into the house. The father tries to protect his family, but the bandit pierces him with his sword through the chest. He grabs Wormmon's sister and flees. "Ahh no stop!!!" "Sister!" The raid continues. Finally the bandits leave. The town has been burned and destroyed. Most of the villagers were either killed or captured. Wormmon roams around looking for his sister, but she is gone. He hears someone struggling to breathe down the street. Wormmon rushes over and sees a villager dying in the grass. "Ha, ha... You there, come closer."
Wormmon walks up to the dying villager. "Why did this happen?!" "That's just part of life... Only the strong survive. And sometimes, the evil in men's hearts makes them do horrible things. If you want your revenge, if you want to be able, to protect the ones you love, you must become strong. Go to, the mountains in the West. Become, a hero... Glueh!" The villager draws his last breath. "This game sucks! Everybody's dying, and I have no powers. Well I'll go to these stupid mountains, so I can become strong. Ya, I'll kick everyone's butt in this whole stupid game! And I'll find my sister, rescue her, and then she can make me cheeseburgers! YA!"

And so Wormmon traveled onward. He went far into the mountains searching for, well whatever the next level is. Wormmon looks around, confused where to go next. "Oh, I hate this game! It's so confusing." After another half hour or so of wandering around, he reaches a secluded temple up in the mountains. "Hmm, I wonder if they have good food." Wormmon walks through the gates and enters the temple. He is greeted by a kindly old monk. "Ah, what's a young boy doing wandering this cold place by himself?"
"Okay, so I'm at this village, and like, these bandits showed up, and they were all like, "We're gonna kill everybody." And everyone was like running and screaming. And then this dying lumberjack told me to go into the mountains to become stronger." "I see. So bandits destroyed your village. Well if you want to seek revenge one day, you have come to the right place. Here we train the finest heroes in all the land. You are welcome to stay, if you can keep up with the training." "Neat!"
And so Wormmon lived at the mountain temple, training so that one day he could defeat the bandits that killed his father and kidnapped his sister. He started training with swords, and learned how to wield the blade in many different forms of combat. His training with the bow didn't go so well, as it was difficult to draw the string back. Not to mention his aim was terrible. But as he grew, he became quite skillful with the bow. The monk also trained Wormmon in the art of magic. Wormmon learned how to conjure up scorching fireballs. He was only allowed to use his magic in training, and only accidentally set things on fire a couple of times.
The years pass inside the game. Wormmon trains day after day. The meals they provided were decent, but that didn't stop Wormmon from sneaking into the kitchen for some extra dessert. One day one of the heroes was claiming to be the fastest in the temple. Wormmon took him up on his challenge, but after he failed to beat the student's time, Wormmon bashed him upside the head with a log, and ran off before he could get caught.
Finally one day, Wormmon graduates and becomes a full fledged hero after passing all his trials. His character has grown from a small boy, and now is a slender handsome young lad looking to take on the world. The head monk gives Wormmon a stone signifying his status as a hero. "With this stone, I can watch over you on your journey, and warn you when you're health is running low." "I'm sure that won't get annoying." Wormmon sets off to the town of Stowerbone, looking to maybe buy some gear, purchase a house, maybe even get drunk at the tavern. Of course, he's going to need some gold first...

The Worm King continues on with the next part of the game. He earns money by completing quests, and doing odd jobs for the villagers. Most of the quests involve slaying bandits early on, but not the bandits that attacked his village. Wormmon completes a dangerous mission, but instead of delivering the goods he was guarding, he ends up selling them to one of Stowerbone's high ranking officials, to earn even more gold. The consequences of this decision didn't affect Wormmon. He didn't feel guilty about taking the greedy option. "Ooh, look at all this gold! Still, it isn't nearly enough."
With plenty of coin jingling in his pocket, Wormmon buys some better gear, and picks out a much better sword, that will allow him to slay scoundrels and monsters even faster. He even purchases a decent sized house in town, before taking his remaining gold down to the tavern. After a night of drinking and gambling, Wormmon stumbles out into the streets, throwing up all over the place. He sees a group of computer characters making their way over to the barns. After regaining enough composure, Wormmon follows them, and finds out that at night, some villagers get together to take turns punching each other in a circle. Wormmon speaks with the attendant sporting a Mohawk to get in on the action. "Hey, tubby! How about a fight?"
Wormmon couldn't use his new sword in the bouts, but he had recently put experience points towards strength, so he is easily able to handle the townsfolk. After earning a pretty penny for his effort, Wormmon returns to his home to rest. As the days pass in game, the quests become more difficult. They take him to other towns and areas of the game. He sees some strong armor, but it is way out of his price range. After sulking at the tavern for a while, he comes up with a plan. He lures a shopkeeper down to the docks to help carry some crates, but offers the man one beer after another until he is suitably wasted. Wormmon returns to the store and loots everything he can carry. "Hee hee hee hee, all mine for the taking, baby! Nobody can catch the green spider."
The days turn to weeks. Wormmon has faced dastardly bandits, hairy werewolves, and bumbling trolls. His choices up to this point has affected his appearance, as two red horns start appearing on his forehead. With all of his profits, he's bought some nice black plate armor, allowing him to take plenty of damage in battle. Still, Wormmon's greed boils inside him like a stomach full of hot dog grease. He soon discovers that when he kills a villager, their house becomes available for purchase. This allows him to buy up the houses and rent them out to earn even more gold. It isn't long until the Worm King is going on killing sprees, buying up the houses, and then running around collecting the rent money. Naturally, his devil horns have grown large. "Now I'm the richest one in town! And the strongest too. It took a while, but this game finally started to get interesting. Still, I need more money, and more powerful weapons!"

Wormmon continues living his sociopathic life inside the video game. After a few more quests, including battling in the arena, and an annoying prison level where he has to run around in his underwear, Wormmon has finally reached the last main quest. He has discovered that the one responsible for ordering the attack on his village is a renowned hero known as Jack of Blades Lionblade, both respected and feared. Wormmon trudges on, making his way to confront the final boss, when the head monk contacts Wormmon through his stone, and warns him that Lionblade is attacking the temple. Wormmon quickly heads back to the temple high up in the mountains where he was raised.
The Worm King is confident in his abilities. His stats have been leveled high from the xp earned on countless quests, and due to his greedy ways he has the best equipment gold can buy. Wormmon returns to the temple, only to find Lionblade ready to strike down the helpless monk. "You're going down, chump! Nobody messes with the Worm King and gets away with it!" Wormmon charges in and blasts Lionblade with a massive fireball. The legendary hero turns to greet Wormmon, almost unfazed by the attack. "Ah, it looks like that little boy is all grown up now. I must say, it's been quite interesting watching your journey. You're every bit as vicious and maniacal as me!" "Grr, I'm nothing like you!"
Wormmon draws his blade and goes to attack, but a voice echoes out from the shadows. "Why must you rush blindly into battle?" A woman wearing a long red cloak with her face obscured slowly walks out from the shadows. "Stay out of this! I must revenge my family!" "I think you mean, avenge." "Shut up! I'm going to revenge all over your face!" "Aren't you willing to listen to your sister?" "This toad-faced nitwit is responsi-bi-ble for my sister being kidnapped." "You always were an imbecile, brother." "I'm not your brother." The head monk speaks up. "You fool! That IS your sister!"
Wormmon stands around in silence, as his brain processes this information. The little bugs inside Wormmon's head spin the hamster wheels around. Finally it clicks and a little light bulb goes off. "Oooooohhhhhhh..." "Yes. That day the bandits raided our village, I was captured, and raised by bandits..." The woman goes on and on, but Wormmon isn't paying attention. "Ya ya, backstory, role playing crap, let's get to the fight!" Lionblade reveals a hokey looking sword and stabs the head monk with it. "Nooo!" "Ha ha haha, yeees. With the blood of a hero, now this sword possesses tremendous power in my hands. And I shall use it to defeat you!"
Cue your choice of boss battle music. The boss fight is fairly standard. Lionblade alternates between ranged dark magic attacks from the sword, temporarily becoming immune to damage, summoning demon mobs to fight Wormmon, and a powerful slashing attack that deals aoe damage, so it is harder to avoid. After burning through 90 something health potions, the Worm King has chipped Lionblade's health bar down to next to nothing. "What? This sword was supposed to grant me unfathomable power!" "Face it. You're a phony computer program in a video game, designed to lose to the mighty Worm King!" "What do you mean?" "Now taste my sweet justice! All of my grinding has lead me to the single greatest moment in my gaming existence! And it will be GLORIOUS!" Wormmon thrusts his sword through Lionblade, defeating the final boss and beating the game.
Then, his sister presents him with a choice. "Congratulations. You have defeated the evil that was here. Even if you have become a warmonger yourself. Now, you must choose." A pit of fire opens up in the center of the chamber. "Either throw the Sword of Infringement into the fire, or keep the sword and kill me to unlock its power." Wormmon is torn. On one hand, it's a very powerful sword. THE BEST WEAPON IN THE GAME, UNTIL DLC. "But-but, I just found you again. You're my sister. You're like the Judith to my Dante." Finally, Wormmon chooses the token "Good" option, after choosing the "Evil" option 48,991 times in a row. Wormmon throws the sword into the fire.
"I am proud of you, brother. You have learned much on your journey. You learned that in order to reach your goals, you have to work hard. If you had sat around the house all day playing games, you would have never built a monopoly across the land, and become as strong as you are." "Wait. Are you telling me I need to play less video games?!" "And be less evil." "Hmmm, um, evil pit of fire? Can I haz sword back plz?" The Sword of Infringement rises from the flames. Wormmon grasps it, burning his hand. "AHH HOT HOT HOT HOT!" After his hand cools down, he slashes his sister with the sword, sending her falling into the fire. "Ah ha ha ha ha! Nobody tells the Worm King what to do."
Is it over yet? The final boss has been beaten, but Wormmon is still inside the game. What will it take to return home?

Having completed the main story, Wormmon returns to faffing about the game. With the Sword of Infringement striking down mobs, Wormmon completes the remaining side quests, and collects even more powerful weapons just for the sake of having them. His real estate empire expands, until there's nothing left to buy. And Wormmon wept, for there were no more worlds left to conquer. Soon, Wormmon became complacent. Running around the land picking up the rent felt like a boring chore. Essentially pointless, considering his giant bank account. And with nothing left to buy, the only satisfaction it game the Worm King was seeing that number climb even higher.
Finally, Wormmon has had enough. "Oh, I'm so bored of this game! I wanna go back and pester Judith. I even miss what's his name. It starts with a D, I'm drawing a blank." After many lonely nights getting wasted at the tavern, and spending a small fortune at the bordello, the mighty Worm King has been reduced to an overweight slob, wandering around his largest mansion. Only once he gives up all desire to go on, the ghost of his sister visits him in the night. "Wormmon... Don't you see? You never would have become strong unless you spent your life training, and working hard. You never would have bought out entire cities."
"Wah! You again? I'm not going to listen to you. I'll play video games as much as I want. That is if I ever get out of this stupid game!" "You still don't understand. There's more important things in life than immediate gratification. No high score or powerful weapon is going to make you a better person." "I'm not a person, dang it. Still, you kind of make a good point there." His sister's ghost sits down next to the bloated champion past his prime and wraps her arm around him. "I will send you back home. But I hope that you will reflect on what I have tried to teach you." "You mean it?! I can go back? But, what about my gold? My weapons?!" "Go back, and excel in life. Then, one day, you shall return. There's going to be lots of sequels, but they will all be vastly inferior. Goodbye, brother."
The ghost rises up, and creates a bright flash of light. The room starts to glitch out. Soon, only Wormmon is left floating in an empty abyss. He looks down and sees a little logo spinning around. "Stupid loading screen." There's a bright flash of energy back in the living room. Wormmon returns home. What had felt like years, was really only a few hours. Wormmon looks around and sees the TV on the input screen, and the console has powered off. "Finally, I'm actually back... I am SO not going to play video games for a while." And so Wormmon goes upstairs, drifting to sleep early in the morning with thoughts of slaying bandits and catching fish in his head. Wormmon kept good on his word not to play video games, for about 2 days. ________________________________
