Job: City Maintenance
The dazzling sun was covering every single corner of Whitewater City that day. A warm, fuzzy, and calm atmosphere remained among the place, like it always was. But this time it was different. It wasn’t the usual calm of an afternoon in the beach, but rather the calm after the storm. Shiro still couldn’t believe their eyes, was this what the Digital Word was turning into? Digimon were natural born pure and sincere, it couldn’t possibly be. This had to be work of Tamed Digimon.. corrupted minds by those filthy humans. Just thinking about it made them want to puke.
To clarify,Shiro had just arrived to the city for a comfortable rest at the beach, when the news of a fight between Mega Digimon hit their ears. Apparently, from what they could grasp of the two rookies chating nearby, a Phoenixmon and another unknown digimon were disputing themselves right on top of a shop on the beach, and as expected, the attacks sooner or later landed on it, destroying tables and other important furniture. It sounded like a disgrace. The digimon probably didn’t even apologized and just ran off.
Ah.. what would they do, if they kept acting this way? They just wanted everyone to be saved, and live a happy, peaceful life. But a corrupted mind could never do so much as that. Even if they could get the chance to talk to both Megas, they probably wouldn’t hear them out; in their rookie form, who would mind them anyways? Power was the only way to get your words to be listened. Well, one day for sure…
So, they decided that they still could contribute to the happiness of every digimon helping out at the mentioned shop, since they would probably need a lot of hands to recover what those two barbarians had turned into ashes and sticks. The place wasn’t as famous as Sandy Pineapple Tavern and Inn, but it looked like it has a charm of its own. Or well, had a charm. Not to say, the manager was delighted to have some extra hands, and put them to work right away: First, they needed to gather all the material that went flying with the past attacks, as it was clear that a lot of table and chair pieces were missing, so that they could give them to a carpenter and save some money on buying new ones. Shiro felt relieved, it didn’t seem like a hard task.
Oh, they were wrong. The materials were everywhere! Never in their lifes had they seen so many pieces of wood spread around. They had to walk for what it seems hours to barely get enough pieces for a beach chair! If it continued like this, they will never finish.
Then there was another problem: their size. Kudamons weren’t big, as to say they could probably pass as a normal white scarf. So, when it came to lift some heavy wood pieces, it felt like a weighlifting competition. Boy, floating all the way back to the shop with that in hands was hard, but they regaine spirts knowing this was all for the sake of the Digital World. A good, peaceful world were everyone helps each other, and only happiness could remain.
First task: Finished. Shiro was starting to feel more pumped up with every minute. Now, at least something was done! Soon they would be seeing this place shine again with the sun, and probably relax over the ocean.
Second request was already coming up: Recounting the food. A lot of food had been either destroyed or ruined during the bombarding, and it was a must to check what was still edible, and what needed to be thrown out. It’s a shops duty to keep everything in other after all. Shiro didn’t find this much exciting, but it was better than lifting wood.
“Lets see… this looks like its still edible, but then again, I don’t even know what this is.. is it supposed to look like this?” They were examinating a strange kind of what it seemed like a fruit. It was round and it had a reddish violet tone of color. This made this look a bit suspicious, what kind of fruit looks like this? Shiro had the urge to cross it as unedible and just take it out of their sight, but that wouldn’t be a job well done. The only was clear and dangerous, but they took the risk: Hesitating a bit, they took a bite to the so-called-fruit and quickly closed their eyes to wait for the worst to come.
One..two..three muched to it, and Shiro felt good, now the taste wasn’t so bad! It was sweet and crunchy so then they should put it in the edible colum- Uh?
Shiros face suddenly started to heat up, and they spited the piece of fruit they were eating. This was spicy! Like, the most spicy thing they had even tasted? Why would they offer such horrible food?!
They couldn’t stand the taste any second longer and rushed up to find water. Luckily one of the workers happened to be in the way with a bottle. In a violent move, that Shiro was not proud of and apologized as soon as the spicy episode ended, they snatched the bottle from their hands and took a long sip.
That was a lot better. The terrific spiciness had been washed away for now. “Oh right, im very sorry, maybe we should have warned you about that. For us, its common to eat it so we are used to the taste, but people who aren’t from here suffer it a lot more.” The worker was trying to excuse themselves and apologizing to the Kudamon over and over. They brushed it off with a smile, yes, it hadn’t felt good, but it didn’t bothered them; after all, it was part of the task.
After that they came back to finish the work they had left. One, two hours later all the food was recounted and the perished ones had been put into a box awaiting to be thrown away.
The shop was starting to look a lot better, and they sun was already going down; That meant that their job was coming to an end. Exhaustion was all over their body, and, although they loved to help, they couldn’t wait to return and rest.
“Thank you so much for your help! I don’t know how much this would have lasted if you hadn’t appeared! Please, feel free to go rest now, you deserve it” The manager seemed to be very grateful with Shiro.
With the managers blessing, they now felt ready to call it a day and go back. Well, it hadn’t been the day they were expecting, but it sure wasn’t bad. Maybe some time they could return and actually enjoy the place benefit´s under the warming sun.
