Compared with outside, Kirsten considered the room to be quite warm. It was still snowing, as it had been for the last several days, and therefore it was quite good that the room she was currently preparing in was well heated. Several key items where left around the room, a pair of thick gloves on the bench next to her, and a pair of goggles hanging above her head. Her hair had by now been tied together with a hair band, with length of her hair then dropping back down her jacket, which was one of those baggy ones. It was a darkish red colour, as where her trousers, which comprised of the same baggy material, which made a sort of crunching sound whenever she moved around at speed.
Around the room scattered the remaining things which she still needed for the next hour or so. There was a woollen hat next to her, with a fluffy bit on the top. And to her right was her snowboard, with it’s pink underside. She liked the board, though the design was possibly the most straightforward that it could be. Not that it mattered, all that was really important was that she didn’t fall and make herself look quite foolish. Actually she felt quite nervous about the whole thing now, not thinking about falling and looking stupid was half the battle it seemed by this point.
Stop. Breathe. Calm.
She took a couple of breaths, just so that her heart might actually slow down a little and allow her to think straight. Zarph napped in the corner of the room as she did this, not paying much attention to her. He hadn’t been that interested in the snow, not one bit. No, as it turned out, small red mammals didn’t seem to be too comfortable with the snow, or as he actually called it “that strange white powder stuff”. Then again, he wasn’t used to it in the slightest, so any dislike was probably to be expected.
“Five minute warning.” She heard the sounds in the background, before she followed it by standing up, tying the laces on her snow boots, and attaching the hat to her head. Gloves where the next thing to deal with, as she inserted a hand into each, before sliding the goggles over the top of her hat, leaving them above her eyes for now so that she could see where she was going well enough for now. They made everything slightly darker, but she didn’t really need it inside – it wasn’t like outside where all the snow was shiny and white.
”I’ll be back in a bit.” She waved to Zarph, who moved slightly, sort of indicating he was awake, but probably not enough to really be that aware of where she was going. She’d been told he would be fine just sleeping in the room while she was busy, so Kirsten didn’t have any worries about leaving him. Finally she grabbed her board with one hand, holding it next to her chest, and walking towards the door. She was meant to shine now, and show people what she could do. She was still a little nervous, but thankfully no longer concentrating too much on worrying about falling. This was good.
