The landing of the plane was not something Silas had grown used to. Even being a rookie myrmecologist, most of his studies had been within the country where he didn’t have to drive. Flight was still very new to him. Now, though, the plane had stopped, and everyone had already been de-boarding while he thought about the trip.
Getting off the plane, the scents of Japan began to fill his nostrils; things like the smell of the trees and the smell of the hot tarmac itself were different from the stuff he would usually smell at home. But that was beside the point now, he needed to find the terminal to get to the north of this town, Shibuya. Reading the directions, he quickly found the subway terminal he needed to go to get to his new home somewhere in the city.
As he walked, something subtle on a nearby tree caught his attention. A small ant crawled up the tree along with its many comrades. Examining it closer, he found out it was the species Myrmica kotokui, a species that was only naturally occurring in East Asia. It was good to see that in a city as urban as this one, some ants still manage to survive.

Arriving at the subway terminal was yet another new experience for Silas. Every terminal in the subway was packed to the absolute brim, people bustling to get to their place of work. All except for one, that is. This terminal was completely empty, with no one boarding the train that sat waiting. As Silas examined the train, an extremely tall man tapped him on the shoulder. As he turned, an angel-like entity stood, its wings almost glitching. After some staring, the being put his hand on his shoulder before speaking.
“Get on the train,” he said in a quiet yet still very assertive tone. This man was so much taller than he, so Silas took no chances and began to board the train.
Upon boarding, he noticed that the train was pristine, having sustained absolutely zero wear-and-tear for however long it had been being used. Sitting down, he noticed one other passenger was with him on the train. A short man in trench coat and hat sat across from him, his hood obscuring every facial feature he had. After the train began to roll, the man spoke.
“So, heading to Terminus are ya? First timer I assume?” Silas simply stood in shock. This train was taking him out of city, and there was no telling where it actually was. Eventually, the strange man spoke again.
“Not for the talkin’, eh? Don’t worry, I get it. All humans are usually like this on their first time. It’s like a runnin’ joke with you guys or somethin’.” Something was horribly wrong here. No normal person would call another person “human”. He stood and walked towards Silas.
“Suppose it’d be best to introduce myself. Name’s Burgamon, pleased to meet ya pal,” he said as he extended a tiny, orange arm from his sleeve.

Silas was still incredibly confused, but he ended up reaching out to shake his hand anyways. It was a gesture of kindness where he came from, and the strange man(?) seemed like he came from Boston based on his accent. Burgamon readjusted his sleeve before sitting and reigniting the conversation.
“You’ll do good here kid. A lot of people come and then leave, never to return; you, though, you seem like you’re gonna like ‘dis place. Welcome to the Digital World, kid,” he would say as the train finally came to a stop. The Burgamon came up to him.
“Oh yeah, some strange dude asked me to give you this,” he said extending a small bag to him. “Guy said it was of utmost importance. Well, see ya!” he said as he left the train car.
Silas was simply left in shock as he exited the train.
