A beach city can be one of two things. An actually really nice place to be, or the legitimate worst because you didn't prepare enough. For Naoko, it was shaping up to be the latter.
Not only was it in a very alien world, to say the least, but it was uNBEARABLY hot. And she felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb when it came to...everything.
Seriously, she was but one human in a sea of whatever these guys were. Naoko was also fairly certain there was at least one pair of human/those thing pairs. Apparently they're called mons or something? Somehow it got lost amidst the bustle and the heat.
...Where even was she? She couldn't just stick to a side of a street forever. Especially in the single worst and unknown town or city this side of...wherever.
"...Good grief..."

Whitewater City was one of Haru's favorite spots in the Digital World where she could just kick back and relax without a care in the world. It certainly had a lot going for it too! With bright sunrays, a beautiful view, and (mostly friendly) locals; it was the dream vacation spot made a reality.
The gogglehead had just finished doing some clothes shopping, taking advantage of the difference between bits and yen pricings. What could cost tens of thousands of yen would only put her down maybe a thousand bits, which was far more economic for her budget. She and a Meicrackmon (who really did not seem fond of having to lug around bags of clothing as well) were carrying the girl's most recent purchases, just another pair of faces of the crowd in Whitewater.
"Hmmm, where should we go next? We could go to a restaurant maybe?" the girl ended up chiming in, attempting to figure out the next part of the day. It was still in the afternoon today in the Digital World, which considering a day in the Digital World is only an hour and a half or so back home; it meant she could be quite leisurely with her time.
"Something with fish preferably." Tawna deadpanly spoke, the trio of Mini-Meis that followed the feminine demon beast Digimon immediately chanting "F i s h" as well. The Ultimate level somewhat disliked the more casual nature of their visits to the Digital World, but she for the most was apathetic to them as a whole. She'd have attempted to lead the blue skirt-wearing girl to the nearest seafood restaurant if they had not noticed a white jacket-wearing girl that she somewhat recognized. Not that she actually has met them, but she had seen them before at Haru's home... either while skulking about at night or just seeing them through Haru's Digivice. She glanced down at Haru, tugging their hand slightly before pointing at Naoko with the Mini-Meis. "Oy, is that not your kin over there?" she deadpanly spoke.
Haru seemed to for a moment pause, a look of confusion on her face. At first she didn't seem to pay anymind to Naoko (after all they were her sister, she was used to seeing them)... but then she realized that they were NOT supposed to be here. The girl's heart skipped a few beats as she soon quickly rushed to her slightly younger sister, a look of shock in her eyes. "N-Naoko?! Wh-what the hell you doing here?!" she exclaimed.
Not far from Haru was Tawna, the 8 foot something feline slowly walking up and glaring at Naoko (not intentionally, she always did that). "Hi." was all they let out in as deadpan a tone as possible.

There was only one feeling in the world that irritated Naoko. One. It was sweat. And boy oh boy was she sweating a bunch at present...Not to mention she was still trying to wrap her head around much of what was going on at present.
Of course, her concentration was broken by someone rushing to he-...
...
Haru?!
A look of shock made itself known on Naoko's face. "H-Haru, I could ask the same thing to you, dingus!" ...It seemed like neither knew. Then this big furry with knockers that could knock you down just did a deadpan-ass Hi.
...Naoko glanced to the Meicrackmon and could only assume that somehow her sister had become this weird furry lover thing. "...What is that."

Haru was still in utter disbelief, her mind trying to come up with at least a dozen different ideas all at once. She was still in complete shock at even seeing her sister here, let alone the fact that could only mean one thing as well... the girl seemed to shake off partially some of her own confusion. "Err... Well, uh... It's complicated okay! I-I'm just more worried about you! Are you okay?" she ended up exclaiming, a look of genuine worry.
She may have been a bit of a goofball, but dammit she was still the big sister here! It was her job to make sure they were alright.
Tawna just seemed to stare at the two girls in mild confusion. The boy-ish looking one very clearly did not seem to know what she was, she just rather mutely shrugging at them. "I am Tawna, a Meicrackmon. Partner of Haru."
"D-Don't word it like without giving the full gist!" the gogglehead panicked for a moment, realizing just how AWKWARD that sounded; coupled with Naoko being a bit the type to take things at face-value at times. "Just... give me a bit to explain, please! There is a reasonable explanation to all this!"

"I'm...fine-ish? I mean I'm sweating more than one of the protags in your weird manga..." Naoko couldn't help but wind up feeling more confused with Haru's...own confusion if that makes sense. She glanced towards Tawna. Partner? Like...romanti-...
...
Naoko needed at least a full moment to comprehend this. "...Okay, while I accept you liking girls..." She began before pointing a finger at Tawna. "...Really, Haru? A giant...cat with...with..."
She couldn't even finish it! Seriously, WHAT? Why were there THREE SMALLER CATS?

"Maybe you should take off your jacket you dweeb! You don't wear jackets in this weather! Just... put it in one of the bags." Haru exclaimed in slight exasperation, offering one of the bags of clothes for her sister to put their attire in. Her face however lit up as she realized Naoko getting the completely wrong idea here. "Dude! Don't kinkshame here! I-I mean, that's not even what's going on here! We're not THAT kind of partners!"
Tawna just seemed to squint in visible confusion, the Mini-Meis hovering around Naoko curiously while occasionally mewing. "You humans are dreadfully confusing... What even is the matter here?"
"It's human stuff okay?" Haru somewhat sharply responded to the Meicrackmon, glancing back at Naoko. Yeah, there was kind of a whole lot on her mind at the moment, but she HAD to remain calm. "... How about we just uh... go find a place to sit down. There's a nice seafood restaurant nearby we can well, talk... Cause I damn well know you have a lotta questions."

See, the moment Haru noted that taking off her PRIZED JACKET might be a good idea, Naoko actually thought to do that. Except she had nowhere to put it.
Except that bag. So she promptly stuffed the jacket in there. "...I feel very confused in that case then." Naoko nodded with a perfectly straight face.
Straight until the Mini-Meis started circling Naoko like a goddamn UFO. "...I am mortified." This was the only response to this that felt appropriate. "Ech, seafood...Well, food's food. Let's go, then. I -really- wanna know what the heck Knocker Cat meant by partners."
Not really but still, clarification was nice to have.

"Knocker... cat?" Tawna seemed to ask with visible confusion on the manticore-ish Digimon's face... though ruined by they briefly groping one of their own breasts curiously.
Haru just internally groaned as she shook her head. Oh boy, this was going to be a fun day wasn't it? "Stop exploring your anatomy and come on Tawna... You too Koko." she somewhat snidely spoke to the pair, attempting to lead the pair forward.
A very brief walk was all it took to lead to some fairly greasy-looking seafood joint. A Red Lobster this was not, this was more the kind of food joint you'd go for some cheap burgers, fried fish, and fries. GIVEN it was also managed by digital monsters of varying sizes, but that was a minor difference at this point to Haru. The trio would be greeted by the front counter, manned by a small silver-colored slug-like Digimon wearing a crown for a shell and a swanky-looking stache.
The BlackKingNumemon seemed to twirl his mustache slightly as he gazed at the three, "ohoho-ing" to himself. "Ahhhh, yes! Good afternoon? A table for you two lovely ladies and young man?"
Haru seemed to awkwardly glance over to Naoko, realizing that the "young man" the slug was referring to was her sister. She gave an awkward shrug to her sister, then glancing back at the mollusk. "Table for three will do."
"Right this way madam." he politely bowed as he hopped off the counter, lurching across the floor as he led the group to an open booth by a window. "Our waiters will serve you shortly. Enjoy your visit."
Haru finally managed to sigh in mild-relief as she took a seat down, leaving the bags underneath the table. Tawna seemed to scooch into the side Haru was on, gazing at Naoko with a very expression-less look on the feline's face. The gogglehead briefly took off her helmet, allowing her black hair to flow down as she shook it around briefly. "Alright. I'm an open book. How much do you know about this place... and for how long?" she soon spoke, staring at her sister with a mild look of worry.

...Haru's partner was very strange. Naoko had arrived at this conclusion already, but it was only hit in further with this...Uh. Display. Deciding to remain silent, she just decided to follow Haru.
A few minutes later...
...That slug guy just called her a boy. Naoko gave a very calm and leveled stare at the creature before Haru and the slug lurched and walked to a booth. Naoko slid in and put her hands on her lap. "...Uh. A few hours. I'm pretty sure I saw some weird guy in a cat costume, a skeletal mammoth, a really gross looking robot, and a puppy. I have no idea what any of this is, my favorite shirt's ruined, I'm sweaty, and why do people dress questionably here? And have wings?"
...This was a wall of talk.
In no order whatsoever. Naoko looked a little bit distressed.

It was even worse than she thought... Koko here was frankly quite oblivious to the world around them, which for Haru was going to be a pain in the ass to explain. She gave a bit of a reassuring smile regardless, to try and least offer some comfort. "This is another world called the Digital World; its an alternate reality derived partially from the internet. Beyond humans like us, it's inhabitants are Digimon. Digital Monsters."
Tawna seemed to briefly glance off to the side, not one for actually talking usually. Frankly, she was content with leaving her tamer to the talking for the most part. Even then, she felt as if she needed to at least speak up. "I am her Digimon partner. I follow and protect your sister as a guardian entity against whatever dangers may befall her."
Haru nodded towards Tawna's statement, wanting to make it quite clear that she wasn't the other kind of partner. "Humans who become involved in the affairs of the Digital tend to... become partners with a Digimon by some means. Tawna while is my partner, she's also my friend." she calmly explained, pulling out her D-3, a white device with an orange grip. "Do you have one of these on-hand with you by chance?"

Wait this was ANOTHER WORLD ENTIRELY? "...I...Uh. Okay. I understand you said words. I'm trying to comprehend them." She really was. You had to give her credit for trying. Alternate internet world more or less...? So the weird knocker cat and her cult of mini cats were in fact Haru's guardians. Okay.
And she was supposed to get one of these somehow. ANd...come to think of it...
...Naoko reached into her pocket and pulled out a D-3 as well. Some weird thing that had...popped up in her pocket mysteriously. It's grip was gold, and it's color also white. Odd. "...Yeah, what is this?"

Honestly, Haru couldn't fault Naoko for being a bit surprised. This entire concept was still rather bizarre, even to Haru still. "Yeah... I don't blame ya. I'm still trying to figure out everything myself... and I been stuck with Tawna for like a month now." she ended up responding, a look of relief popping on her face with Naoko's reveal of their D-3. "That's a Digivice. Think of it like... your general all-purpose tool for the Digital World. And I guess that means you'll find you partner soon...ish? I dunno really even.
Before she could go any further, a Harpymon garbed in a waitress uniform soon came up to their table. "Well howdy you three! How may ah help you pretteh things?" the avian-like Digimon pluckily spoke with a very feminine, Texan aspect, clutching a notepad with one of her wings as she passed a few menus all in Digimoji... with her talons. Bird logic it seemed.
Tawna just seemed to twitch slightly, as if fighting the urge to pounce on the Harpymon. Instead, she merely stated a single word. "Fish."
Haru just somewhat rolled her eyes. Tawna... was still a work-in-progress socially, especially with strangers. Instead, she merely sighed as she shook her head, glancing over to their waitress. "Two plates of fish and chips... extra large for the cat." she spoke, looking over to her sister, realizing that they probably wouldn't be able to read the menu anyway. "Err... sorry. Just I guess think of something seafood-related... they probably have it."

"All-purpo--But what do the buttons do?" Did this thing even turn on? No place for batteries that she could see...
"And what could my partner possibly be if yours is a giant knocker cat? And how come you've been here for a month but...gone for way shorter?" That was all Naoko managed to get before the bird waitress arrived. She indeed could not read a single thing here. So, she had to rely on Haru's advice.
Seafood.
Seafood...
Alright, time to satiate your bucket list and ignore the twitchy cat.
"Crabcakes. A lot of crabcakes." It may seem really outlandish for Naoko but it was something at the very least. "...They have those, right? Also I'm not pretty." Priorities. "...So how come we're here?"

The Harpymon nodded in approval to the girls' choices in orders. "Well then, I'll give you all some time then! I'll get your orders ready shortly." the Champion level smiled before flapping off to the other parts of the restaurant.
With their meals hopefully ready soon, it was back to just them three talking. There still was a LOT of things she was going to have to explain to Koko. "It does a lot of... things? Man, it's kinda hard for me to list off all it does... It's got a map function, a scanner function so you can like look up info on any Digimon. Most importantly, once you can get your partner..." Haru began to explain, before realizing that she needed to explain just WHAT Digivolution even was. "Remember like those anime where the bad guy has like multiple forms, each stronger than the next? Digimon are kinda like that. They Digivolve to get stronger, and your Digivice will help your partner to do so. Its kinda like a symbiotic relationship in a way, so it's important to keep a hold onto it."
Tawna was still awfully confused as to what Haru's sister kept referring to them as "knocker cat", but opted to simply just remain quiet about that subject. In regards to their sister's partner, even she had no idea what they would be. "There is no telling when you will meet your partner, or what they will be like. Accept their differences." the Meicrackmon spoke to the black-haired teenager, her best attempt at offering advice to them.
Haru just softly nodded in response. As for time stuff, well... even Haru was still trying to get used to that. Time was difficult to keep track at times, especially when you are in the Digital World it feels. "Time's funky here. I can be here for like a week, and it'll only be a day back home. It's been kind of a thing been doing recently... hang around here for a day here, which is just a couple of hours back home. Rinse and repeat ya know?" she spoke, pulling up the bag of clothes that had both what she had purchased earlier and Naoko's hood. "Certainly has it's advantages at least! Digimon have some cute clothing stores!" she pluckily spoke for a moment before getting her concentration back on track. "Err... anyway, don't worry too much about it.. I'll make sure ya get home before mom or dad freak the hell out."

What a weird-ass waiter. Naoko simply exhaled as the Harpymon went to get their orders, which indeed left the three at the table alone once more. More alone...Than a probe on Mars. Or a space man. "...A lot of functions for something that..." Naoko trailed off. It doesn't work. It didn't...do anything for her. "...That's honestly a brick in my hands right now. Kinda like a lil' paperweight."
She remembered the anime, though. She sort of understood immediately what Haru meant. "...Oooh...So it lets me make my partner go like...ummmm...Ultra instinct or something?"
Differences. That was the main thing Naoko got from the knocker cat. "...Right. Understood." She nodded in response to Haru's explanation. "...Uh...Cute clothing stores...? Where?" ...That might have been unexpected from the poker-faced teenager, but hey, everyone's got their quirks.
