The First Step [Amelie & Rinji]
|
Post by Rinji on May 20, 2018 20:49:16 GMT
The trip to Terminus always had to take such a long time, didn't it? Rinji yawned and stared out dreamily through Trailmon's inner window from his seat. Still, he was glad the trip took a few hours at least. It had given the insect digimon time to rest and recover - something he'd definitely appreciated. Now the sun was high in the sky and the train digimon was just pulling up to its stop. The few other digimon that were sharing the carriage starting whispering and getting ready to leave. A reminder that it was time for him and Amelie to get off as well. "Amelie? We're here," he announced - although it was obvious they had arrived. The rumbling movement of the Trailmon had ceased and they were now surrounded by huge, gleaming metal buildings. Large crowds of digimon and small groups of humans littered the platforms, muttering amongst themselves. "It's busy as ever," Rinji uttered to himself. It still always half-surprised and half-impressed him how busy it could get in Terminus. Of course, it was basically the capital city of this part of the Digital World. Everything one could ever want or need could be found here. Inevitably, it was the first step of their journey. A journey to find the truth about Amy's spirits. Wow... it sounded quite epic if you thought about it like that. Rinji shook his head, cleared his thoughts, and looked to Amy. They had to focus on the task at hand. "So we're getting the map first, right?" It was the number one thing on their shopping list. Not to mention it would give them a better idea of the places they'd visit, so they could stock their travelling supplies based on its locations. He stared out the window at the ads plastered across the station's wall. One in particular grabbed his attention. 'Feeling lost? Visit the Terminus City Tourist Office! We'll set you straight! Includes:
- Information about our Wonderful City
- Help for Lost Humans
- Tourist Guides & Maps
Courtesy of the Terminus Governing Group'
Despite the cheesy and vague nature of the ad, it seemed like a good place to start. They were helpful enough to print a map providing directions to the 'Tourist Office' as well.
"Looks like we can get them from there." The Scolomon gestured to the plastered advertisement. The entire thing was slightly peeling, covered in a bit of scrawl, but otherwise bright and welcoming. Something that the digimon of Terminus would want new visitors to see, he supposed.
"I wonder if they're any good?" A question like that would have to be answered later. It was time to get off this Trailmon. The thought of staying any longer was not a welcoming one - he and Amelie had started this journey together, and he didn't fancy it being ruined before they even took their first step.
"Well, time to go, anyhow. You never want to leave a Trailmon waiting."

Just... how much time had passed? Amelie didn't know; she had been half asleep, half awake at the tranquil rocking of the Trailmon, the whole trip. The teenager had been vaguely aware of her surroundings, and the only thing she knew for certain is that being not-so conscious while hugging Rinji was an, overall, blissful experience.
She didn't know why, but having physical contact with the Scolomon managed to calm her down greatly. She didn't know if this was how digimon-human partnerships felt, but it still felt nice enough for her. On her half-doozy state, the brunette couldn't but ask herself a naive question; what if the two of them had been actually meant to be? What if, due to a whim of destiny, 'that' bond had been broken somewhere down the line?
Those questions would've continued to unconsciously course through her mind if it weren't for Rinji's words prompting her to regain her consciousness. First thing she did, of course, was to undo the tentative embrace she had been holding with the digimon, then to rub the sleepiness out of her eyes as she gazed outwards.
"Already at Terminus, huh." She remarked as they approached the platform. Truthfully, the digimon's words were spot on; this place was completely crowded, even if that was more or less the norm in this city. The brunette nodded as they descended; time to get to work.
"Yup. Getting a map and some traveling supplies is probably the best first step we can take. We can probably look for other things if you want to, but those should be essentials, I think."
It wouldn't take them long to find a 'tourist office', so to say. Smiling at how quick Rinji had found it, she nodded. "Yup, that sounds like a good place where we can begin. Not sure if we'll find what we want, but it's a good place to start as any, probably."
Just like that, they would leave the station and begin walking towards the Tourist Office. With any luck, they'd find some useful stuff there!
"How are you feeling?" The brunette couldn't help to ask; seeing her friend's bandaged body was a constant reminder. "Hope your back feels better." Not like they could discuss that for long, though. Soon enough, the two found themselves by the door of the office.
At plain sight, it seemed like pretty much a Real World counterpart of the exact same thing, with the exception that it was made to accommodate for digimon's... peculiar sizes; not like Rin nor Amy were particularly big, though. The brunette was the first to enter, and also the first one to stare at the plethora of maps and books that were on the many shelves of the office. Undoubtedly, this place seemed to be fairly professional in nature. So much, in fact, that she felt a bit lost.
"Where to begin...?"

The Scolomon nodded happily at Amelie's affirmations, completely unaware of what she'd been dreaming about earlier. He'd hoped she'd slept well at least, which seemed to be the case. She hadn't stirred very much while she was hugging him, so she must've been comfortable at least. Although he wasn't sure he made a very good pillow.
Nonetheless, the two had hopped off the train and continued out through the station platform towards their new destination.
Walking alongside Amelie like this... made Rinji wonder if all Digimon partners felt this way? The feeling of having someone to want to protect and keep safe, and the sense of resolve and confidence that came with that feeling. In that moment, he understood. Understood why Digimon that partnered up with humans were so sure of themselves, through thick and thin. They weren't doing it for themselves - they were doing it for their partner.
A question from Amelie broke him out of his self-musings. "Oh, uh," he paused, thinking of the right way to phrase it. "It doesn't really hurt unless I stretch it too hard," he explained. The wound had mostly coagulated by now, forming into a gummed up scab. The make-shift bandage was now tinged with a small patch of dried up, oxidised blood. "I think I should be good within a few days."
Good enough to travel with Amelie. It'd have to be. He smiled at her reassuringly in return, followed by a concerned expression. "And how's your arm?" He'd almost forgotten - hopefully it wasn't paining her. The thought of it bothering her left an icky feeling of guilt within him.
Rinji followed his human counterpart into the office building, gawking at the large selection of printed papers and leaflets, yet not thinking twice about the huge size of the entrance. Instead, the endless rows of maps and informational leaflets was entrancing him.
Amy seemed as lost as he was. "Hmm..." He pondered the selection and sidled up to the map-related shelving. Maps of the Digital World, maps of Terminus City, even maps of the Human World? It was all quite overwhelming.
"This one maybe?" Rinji grabbed a thick, folded booklet from the shelf with two of his appendages, and held it in front of his face, squinting at the text. That confirmed it: a complete map of the Digital World's known continents and areas. That'd been lucky.
He looked back at Amy, confirming she was still there, then unfolded it to check the contents. Then kept unfolding it, and unfolded it some more, and oh Lord Yggdrasil this was a big map. "Uhm... uh..." He panicked, trying to un-unfold the map. Was it this crease that went there? Oh no, this was embarrassing.
"W-well, Amy, I think we found our map," he commented, still puzzled over how the whole thing was supposed to fold back into a square. Right now, it was laid out onto the floor in front of him in a paper-y disaster. "Um... how do I fold it back again?" He questioned himself, trying to remember how it'd initially gone together. No luck, as he'd have it; he was stumped.

Rinji's answer brought a slight frown to Amelie's face, even that one didn't last long; with any luck, he would recover quickly from that wound, even if she wondered if there would be a scar afterward and secretly hoped that it wouldn't, even if a permanent reminder of that time where she lost control would, ultimately, strengthen her resolve for that to happen never again.
"I'll make sure to change your bandages as soon as I can." The brunette promised; truthfully, she didn't know if digimons' wounds could get infected, but it was probably good to not get outta practice, at least regarding on how to properly give first aid. Amy gazed again at the digimon; this time his expression mirroring her own for a bit as he asked how was her own wound.
"Don't worry about it, I'm fine." She replied, a smile returning to her face. That had been a half-truth, mostly to not inconvenience her friend; sure, her arm was operational and she could use it normally, but she still had that random feeling of discomfort where his teeth had been every now and then. Luckily, those were somewhat rare events, and it was more annoying than painful so... no need to worry him, right?
Especially since they've reached the entrance of the tourist office! Amelie was dumbfounded for a while, trying to take in the immense surroundings. Luckily for her, Rinji was the more expeditive member of the duo, and had managed to find the map while she just stared around.
Unfortunately, it seemed that Rin wasn't... the best at folding maps, apparently! With a gentle smile, the teenager crouched right beside him. "Let me help you."
It would probably take them five or so minutes, but they would eventually do it, and to be honest... Amy had enjoyed working together with the digimon. This was the kind of mundane stuff that friends tended to do together, right? Given their circumstances, the two of them hadn't been able to experience that kind of things, and finally being able to do that... felt nice. Felt like they finally were doing... friend stuff, more or less?
"I think we're a good team." She commented, a smile still on her face as they have finished. "Well. Seems like we got our first problem taken care of. Wanna buy some food now? We'll probably need some for our travels."
Terminus' marketplace wasn't too far, in any case. Rows and rows of different places who sold pretty much everything one could ask for; dried meat, roots and many other traveling rations; enough clothes to withstand any kind of weather. "Do you feel like buying anything in specific at the moment, Rin-Rin?"
If not, the girl would just begin to check out the available wares. Maybe she'd find something interesting!

Hearing that Amelie's arm wasn't bothering her gave him a small sense of relief. Still, maybe they should buy some medical supplies later? They could definitely use them. He'd have to remember that for later; it was as important as food and water, after all. Especially if Amy wanted to replace his bandages, he didn't want to use up her entire supply.
"Th-thanks." Rinji stuttered, embarrassed by his fumbling attempts to refold the map. Amelie was definitely far more dexterous than he was. Of course, she had hands. Nonetheless, he did what he could to help refold the map with her assistance. This fold here, that fold there...
"There we go!" He sang, admiring their combined handiwork of refolding the map. With two of them, it hadn't been so hard. "We do make a pretty good team, don't we?" It wouldn't surprise him if any onlooking digimon assumed they were partners of some sort. It wasn't like there were obvious tell-tale signs that Amelie was a spirit user.
Food sounded good. "Yep," he agreed, happy with Amelie's proposals. "We'll have to see what they have." To carry the food, maybe they should focus on something light and non-perishable? He stopped to think, then continued. "I'll need to buy a bag so I can carry stuff too." Letting Amy do all the heavy work wasn't something he was about to let happen. Besides, he was stronger than he looked; carrying food and water would be no problem.
Good thing the maps were a free service, Rinji noted. Not having to wait in line to pay for them made their little stocking-up chore far quicker. The trip to the marketplace didn't take long either. A bit of crowd-weaving and they both found themselves in the bright and colourful vendors markets. This place always felt more friendly and natural than the rest of the city.
The only thing in specific that he needed was a bag. "A travelling bag's all I need," he voiced. "They have tents here too." Gearing up would be just as important as stocking food; sleeping out in the open or in the dark wouldn't be much fun.
Right now, they seemed to be in the food-related section, and it made him wonder about exactly what they should buy. "I suppose we should just buy what we like?" Realising he had no idea what Amelie preferred, food-wise, maybe it'd be best to let her choose?
Then, he had an idea. "I know, if we buy staples like rice and meat, I can carry it easy on my back! When it's healed up a bit more, that is," he added, remembering his injury. "Do you want to buy the food? I'm not really fussy." It would free him up to go and buy the other things they needed.
"Then I can go get us a tent too, and the other stuff we need," he continued. Then he nodded to Amy, hoping his explanation had sufficed, and set off as quickly as he could to find the related stalls. If he was quick, then he wouldn't be leaving her waiting as long.
Shortly after, he found a market store selling bags of all shapes and sizes. One bag in particular was quite long, and what Rinji considered a perfect fit. "E-excuse me," he announced himself to the Kotemon manning the stall. "Please can I have that bag?"
The Kotemon nodded, picking the bag up from its hanger, and handed it to Rinji. The Scolomon quickly paid for the bag, donned it onto his back, taking care not to dislodge the bandages underneath and continued on his speedy buying spree. Several minutes later, and he was carrying all sorts of random gear; flashlights, cooking pots and pans, fire-starting kits, sleeping bags and the like.
He wondered what Amelie was doing by now. Had she finished buying all the food they needed? Maybe she bought some other things too? Then he remembered something he'd almost forgotten.
"Medicine!" Possibly the most important thing! He hastily approached the herb stall that had coincidentally been right near the start of the market where he'd left Amelie. For a few hundred bits, he bought some healing herbs and pouched them into the carrying bag. It was starting to weigh on his wound, but he pressed on.
Now, he had everything he needed, but where had Amelie gone? He wandered the stalls, occasionally gawking at the strange foods on offer, and wondered if perhaps he'd strayed too far away in his excitement to get ready.
Oh well, maybe he'd find her in a minute, whatever she was doing. The market-place was, well, a big place! Either way, they'd bump into each other again for sure.

It was the little things, like spending these moments with Rinji what ultimately made Amelie think that the whole Digital World thing had been worth it. Could she have asked for a better friend? Probably not.
Definitely a pretty mean team; on that much they agreed. Not to say that, barring evolving into random monstrosities in the most inconvenient of times, their relationship thus far had been pretty good; it felt pretty nice. Being on the same wavelength and stuff.
She twiddled her dumbs a bit shyly at the digimon's proposal, but ultimately nodded. "I don't think we'll have a lot of space issues, but splitting the food among the two of us is probably for the best, in case we get randomly separated or something of the like." After all, given the recent episode, that much was more or less expected, wasn't it?
They would eventually reach the marketplace, Amy nodding to Rin's own requests. "I don't think I need anything in particular; a tent would be nice, though." She thought she had a sleeping bag with her, somewhere, even if buying another one wouldn't be a bad idea. After a quick smile, the brunette nodded again. "Very well. I'll buy the food; where should we see each other when finished?"
After getting an answer, the teenager would begin buying everything that looked like it'd be easy to transport and could be conserved for lengthy periods of time; dried meat, dried mushrooms, some canned goodies, powdered milk and even some dried fruit and nuts... among other things; pretty much anything that could withstand the test of time relatively well and caught her attention would be bought. That should probably be enough to do even cook a half-decent meal if she felt inspired
Now... only to find Rinji. This day had been pretty long already, and getting some lodging in order to start really early tomorrow was probably the best they could do. Luckily, it wouldn't be too hard to find him. They met again in the same place they had split ways.
"How was your shopping spree?" The teenager asked, a small smirk on her face. At least from looking at her and all the bags she was carrying at the moment, it was obvious that she had been having some good fun. "Hope you found everything you wanted! I got a fair bit of stuff myself." Looking at the horizon and at the orange-ish sky, Amy added. "We should probably find a place to stay the night."
A small inn or something of the like would suffice, wouldn't it? Then again, this was something that wasn't only for her to decide. "What do you think? Maybe we could get dinner first or something."
Almost on a whim of destiny, as soon as the Amelie mentioned the word 'dinner', her stomach grumbled, almost as if protesting for the utter lack of food it had received on her shopping endeavor. Her cheeks were tinged in a faint shade of pink right away. "Uhhh. Sorry."
Talk about embarrassing, even if... probably not as embarrassing as throwing up in front of him. That had already happened, hadn't it?

The insect digimon wandered the market some more before eventually returning to the place he'd earlier agreed to meet Amelie at. Maybe now she'd be waiting for him?
He came to a stop just outside the original entrance to the market and just by happenstance, looked up to see the orange tint of the sky. Now, he didn't have a watch or clock on him, but it was obviously getting quite late by now. Even the light breeze that'd earlier been pleasant was starting to feel a little chilly.
Rinji shivered a little. Amelie still wasn't here by the looks of things.
Then, like magic, he saw her round a corner and approach him. There she was!
"My shopping spree? Oh, right." The Scolomon rubbed the back of his head with a forearm, smiling awkwardly at Amy. He had bought a lot of stuff, hadn't he? "I think I bought everything we needed." Amy had plenty of food on her as well, it seemed.
A place to stay the night sounded good. He was about to comment on Amy's suggestion of food - when her stomach answered for the both of them. Rinji couldn't help but laugh a little at the whole situation.
"It's okay," he assured her after seeing her face turn a slightly lighter shade of himself. "I guess that just means we need to eat first. I haven't had anything since we were on the Trailmon," he concluded, remembering the digibite snacks he'd nibbled on half-way through the trip. It'd been the only thing keeping him going all day.
With that, his stomach grumbled too. Surprise etched itself on his face, then he laughed it off again. Maybe in front of someone else, he'd be more embarrassed. But with Amelie? He couldn't help but feel more relaxed than usual - which was strange, considering all that'd happened earlier.
The evening was too pleasant to let that ruin his day, however. "Looks like that makes the both of us," he said, commenting on his own tummy rumble.
"Should we head for the tourist district? I saw earlier it had inns and restaurants." Having fumbled with trying to refold the map for so long earlier, he couldn't help but take note of all the places in the city it had depicted. Each section of the city had appeared to be divided into districts, all dedicated to their own purpose. It was an efficient design he'd never known about until today, despite being more of a resident of this world than Amy.
Presumably, if Amelie agreed, the both of them would leave the market and begin their journey through the streets of Terminus towards their next destination. Hopefully they'd make it before nightfall, although Rinji wouldn't mind seeing what Terminus looked like at night.

Amelie's own feelings of embarrassment were swatted aside as soon as Rinji's stomach grumbled, just for him to laugh it off. Guess that just meant he had really gotten used to her, hadn't him? In a sense, that was a nice feeling; the notion of her feeling flustered in front of him felt kinda silly now, but there wasn't much she could do about the past, was it?
"The tourist district sounds like a good idea for me." The brunette nodded, her steps beginning to point towards the indicated direction. The Scolomon himself said that he wasn't overly picky with food, but that didn't mean that they would eat in a random place, right? Even if their appearances probably weren't fitting for the cusp of fancy restaurants, that still didn't mean she wouldn't try to treat her friend to a nice place.
Besides, this was probably the last time they wouldn't have to cook their own meals in a very long time. That meant they had to 'celebrate', right? The market was left behind promptly, the duo beginning their search for a place. "I guess we can call this a pretty good day. I wonder where should we travel first; any ideas, Rin-Rin?" Maybe it was too soon to decide this kind of things, but it never hurt to ask! Besides, Rinji's opinion was important, and having something to talk about during dinner was probably equally as important.
Eventually, Amy would find a place that seemed nice enough! Pointing there, and if she got Rinji's confirmation, she'd begin to there. Outwardly, it seemed like a pretty big tavern of sorts, even if its insides had a particularly interesting Art Deco style.
Understandably, the place was completely huge inside, partly to accommodate its bigger customers. It'd take a bit for her to find a table sized for... 'normal' beings, but eventually, she did! "There. Seems like a nice place."
Once they sat (or whatever Rinji did instead of seating), the teenager wondered how exactly you ordered stuff in this place, then proceeded to look at her companion. Mayyybe he knew better?

Having heard Amelie accept his proposal, Rinji followed along beside her. As they walked together, a question from Amelie prompted the Scolomon to break his attention away from a particularly large building he'd been staring at.
"Where could we travel first?" Rinji repeated after Amelie, ensuring he'd heard her properly. Doubly so, it'd been a rhetorical question aimed towards himself. There were a lot of places the two could visit. Dangerous places, wild places, but where to begin?
"How about..." He hesitated, still stalling for an an idea. Somewhere close to Terminus City, perhaps? Reminded by the chill in the evening air, he shivered and finally finished his answer, idea in mind: "the Tropics?" Warm and wet they were, so he'd been told.
"There were loads of rumours about the jungle and the weird digimon that lived there," he added, remembering the stories that the forest digimon used to tell each other every winter during the Deepwinter Sharing. Spent under the largest pine tree on the coldest day of the year, it'd become tradition for all the forest's residents to tell tales of their adventures.
And a tale of a warmer, wilder place than the Eastern Forest? It was more than enough to get everyone talking about it. What strange secrets could somewhere so uncharted hold?
"Maybe we'll find out what kind of digimon your spirits are?" Rinji said, continuing his line of reasoning. "I mean... I've never seen anything like them before." He wasn't the most well-travelled of digimon, but he was sure that if Amelie were to suddenly spirit evolve in the middle of the street, it'd be more than enough to turn a few heads. Digimon like that... just weren't normal.
Thinking about the oddities of Amelie's spirits had to come later, though. For now, the spirit user had pointed out a rather large tavern. "That place looks all right," he commented, a little unsure over the grandiose size of the place, but happy to go there nonetheless.
Once he followed Amelie inside, he followed her to a table. "Uh, just a minute." Seeing the problem that presented itself, the centipede-mon quickly half-ran, half-walked to another part of the restaurant. Thankfully, he wasn't told off for running (although, it was rather hard to tell when a centipede's run was just a sped up version of its walk), and came back dragging a large, lengthy, cushioned stool.
"There we go," he said happily as he sat down on top of it, tucking his bright yellow legs beneath him. Far more comfortable than trying to squeeze into a chair designed for humanoids and smaller digimon.
"Sorry about that, I had the same thing happen to me another time," Rinji explained, realising Amelie might've been a little out of the loop.
There again, Amelie still seemed confused? Then he realised - their table had no menu! Turning around to find an empty table, he reached out and snatched a couple menus from it. "Well, here are the menus," he stated, handing her one of them.
Laying out his own menu, he surveyed the selection. The prices weren't too bad; he could definitely pay for this. He looked up from his menu towards Amelie. "Hey, when you're finished deciding what you want, I can go order for us?"

Well, that had been an... interesting question, in all honesty. It was true, Amelie had decided to travel the Digital World far and wide, but the truth was that had been half-cooked at best. 'Where to begin?' Was a legitimate question, and that made her ponder on the actual answer? Truthfully, the brunette was the type that just took things as they came, but just wouldn't fly when traveling with another being, would it? There were many places to choose from, and it wasn't like she minded all that much...
But, once again, Rinji came to the rescue! Exhaling at the fact that the answer to his own query had been provided by himself, Amy smiled. "The tropics sound like a good starting place. Weird digimon in the Jungle, huh? That sounds pretty interesting! Unless it's the dangerous type of weird, that is."
After all, Amelie's own digivolutions could be counted as 'weird'. And they weren't precisely safe, were they? In any case... the Scolomon had a point. "That'd be nice. To find out what kind of digimon my spirits are. And hopefully find a way to reason with them, or at the very least... understand how they think." Granted, the brunette didn't even know if they thought at all, but that was the whole point of their journey, more or less.
Then again, they probably could talk about that later, or when it became relevant again. Right now, her belly was protesting, and that was something that had to would be better if solved as soon as possible! That's why they entered the tavern, and, while Amy was a bit puzzled at first, she understood Rinji's hurry at getting an appropriate chair; funny how this kind of places could accommodate to any kind of body type, even if that was a bit of a granted considering how different their bodies could be.
"Oh, don't worry. It's fine! I understand wanting to get a comfy chair for yourself. Would've done the same in your position." Just like him, she also realized that this kinda place didn't have a menu and that pretty much... someone had to place an order; that made the brunette a little flustered. How could she forget something so simple?
Quickly giving a glance to the menu that her friend promptly handed at her, Amy just stopped at the first thing that sounded more or less good. "Sure, Rin-Rin. I, huh... think I'll have the... 'Surprise Stew'?" Was she on an adventurous mood? Probably, but she wouldn't be able to know how good the cuisine of the Digital World was without having a little taste by herself, right?
"What about you? What are you having?"

Post by Rinji on Jun 17, 2018 21:53:00 GMT
Rinji nodded towards Amelie. A surprise stew? What sort of ingredients did something like that have? With confusion still written on his face, he dismissed the notion and looked back down towards the menu. No point in keeping Amelie waiting - they needed to eat, and soon!
The Scolomon squinted at the descriptions beneath each meal. "I think I'll go for the Seared Steak," he said with a slight tinge of tentativeness. It was splurging a little, but he couldn't help but think about how hungry he was. It wasn't like he didn't have enough bits to afford it either, right?
"Okay, guess I'll go order now." Rinji excused himself from the table and scuttled up towards the tavern counter. A couple of black and white dinosaur digimon queued up in front of him as they ordered something, and he took the moment to drift away into thought.
A multitude of questions, doubts and ideas were floating in his mind. Was it really a good idea to visit the Southern Tropics first, or had he just been tempted by the idea of a warm climate? Would the trip be uneventful or fraught with danger? What if they...
"And what would you like to order?" A voice broke him from his little day-dream, dragging him back into reality. A Meicoomon with bright green eyes was staring at him, almost passionately.
Was he always this distracted?
"Oh, uh..." He hesitated, still a bit muddled. "One Surprise Stew, and a Seared Steak."
"Quite simple," the Meicoomon commented, writing down the order onto a notepad. "Would you like any drinks with that?" She asked plainly, staring up at him passionately again from behind the bar, presumably from on top of a stool.
Rinji found himself stumped, remembering that Amelie hadn't mentioned anything about drinks. "How much for two glasses of chilled water?" Assuming they served it, of course. Personally, it was what he would've ordered anyway, but Amelie could always order something more interesting if she wanted to, right?
"Oh, those are on the house," Meicoomon replied, finishing up the order. She stared past Rinji, back towards the two dinosaur digimon that'd already ordered, paused for a second, and said, "I'll take these orders to the chef now, your food should be ready soon~"
"Thank you," Rinji thanked her and scurried off back to sit with Amelie as soon as he could.
Sighing as he sat back down across from Amelie, he realised that he should probably tell her about the drinks. "Uh, Amy, I ordered both of us water, if that's okay?"
"'Cause... actually, what kind of drinks do they serve?" He asked her, curious - he hadn't checked the other side of the menu. Flipping it with a claw, he skimmed over the contents, squinting as he read.
"Oh, they have alcohol here," he mentioned, a little surprised. Alcohol was a rare sight in the rural regions of the Digital World, so it was just strange to suddenly see it. Shrugging, the centipede digimon relaxed back into the cushions of his seat, glad to be resting after such a long day.
"So..." He started, "are we going to leave for the Tropics tomorrow?" Might as well get their plans out of the way while they had a moment between them. Better now than while they were eating.

Amelie nodded at Rinji's own proposal, just in time for him to retire towards the bar in order to... well, place their order. As the brunette waited, she couldn't but wonder about their upcoming trip. About the number of positive experiences they could garner and... about the ones that weren't as positive.
Those were undoubtedly many, but luckily Rinji managed to come back soon enough. Apparently, the queue hadn't been as big as big as Amy had imagined, and that, in a sense was something to be happy about. Yet, she couldn't but notice that her friend seemed to be kinda... distracted? Maybe he was still thinking about how everything had happened so fast.
And maybe how they still were friends? Maybe Amy was beating a dead horse at this point but the injury on the Scolomon's back was still a reminder of what could've happened if the situation hasn't stopped when it had. And that notion had never stopped being terrifying.
Thoughts that definitely would haunt her for the foreseeable future, or at least as long as Rinji was around. Then again, she had better things to do than to dwell on that stuff, right? Her reverie was broken as soon as he came back, asking a simple question that had an equally simple answer. "Yup. It's fine!" She didn't feel like having anything fancier, and if they were to travel... getting drunk probably wasn't a good idea. "While enticing, I'll pass on alcohol for now. You know: it'd be pretty awful to begin a trip with a hangover, don't you think?"
The brunette giggled at the notion even though now she'd definitely have to get her friend drunk someday, just to see how he behaved like that. Maybe when their plans didn't seem so busy? Or when they thought they could actually relax instead of... whatever they were doing at the moment. "I mean, the plan is beginning our trip tomorrow, isn't it? Unless you want to do something first, I guess? I'd say our schedule is pretty flexible, in case you want to arrange it right now."
It'd be better to get that out of the way as soon as they could, wouldn't it? Amy couldn't imagine a better way to do it than over a plate of warm food, honestly! For a second, she wondered if Rinji had any other specific plans about their small trip.

Hearing Amelie happily accept his second-guessed order, the centipede sighed in silent relief. Unless Amelie was a particularly argute observer, it was likely she wouldn't notice his hidden tension. Still, it seemed tonight would go smoothly with no muck-ups to ruin what Rinji considered a pretty good day, despite the distant stinging that haunted the injury on his back. Perhaps he shouldn't have strained it so much, so soon.
Without being given adequate time to delve into the troubling thoughts over the injury, the digimon nodded towards Amelie affirmatively. Starting their anticipated pilgrimage with a hangover... Rinji let out a light laugh at the thought.
"I don't think I'd want to drink that much," he replied airily, still amused over the subsequent imagery it drew to his mind. Although the idea made him pause for a moment; hadn't he drank alcohol before? Surely, he must've done, yet there again couldn't quite grasp a memory of when or where.
Was it just a strange sense of deja vu? Inwardly dismissing the misplaced idea, he moved onto something he certainly did remember. "Well... if you think about how this all started, one of us kind of did start with a hangover..." He gently teased, thinking back to fonder times. Amelie was no stranger to drinking, that much he knew.
Then again, it begged the question of what exactly she'd been doing before they'd met. To Rinji, she didn't seem like the party-all-night type, yet he could think of one hundred exceptions to get drunk. A party or celebration, a party-loving friend, a rough night...
"Pretty sure I don't have anything that really needs doing," Rinji said to Amelie over the questions looming above their schedule. Was she implying that they could stay in Terminus for longer?
"Terminus isn't all that bad of a city, but I'd rather not... hang around for too long." Only the slightest tinge of discomfort made itself known in his voice. Once you've seen it all, there's not much reason to want to stick about, he reasoned.
"I mean, I've already seen most of it in my own time, unless I missed something." Maybe there had been more to see, but really, what else could there be?
The journey they'd both be undertaking would be more than enough adventure, anyhow. And honestly, Rinji was hoping that maybe he'd learn something new for himself. Even if it were something as simple as satisfying the curiosity of what he'd digivolve into.
Without further ado, a Meicoomon holding two plates and full glasses of iced water came over, skilfully balanced on her paws. "One surprise stew and one seared steak!" She confirmed, setting them onto the table. Respectfully, she managed to guess correctly who had what. "Enjoy your meal! If you have any requests, I'll be back by the counter," she chimed, before bounding away again, free of the heavy plates.

Yup, there was always the option of... not drinking much, but, in all honesty, Amy had now idea about how strong drinks in the Digital World were. Did they use alcohol graduation, just like in the real world, or had some other system in order to measure it? While interesting, the remark that Rinji made managed to... made her giggle a bit.
"That was a crazy day, wasn't it?" It was almost a nostalgic feeling, how the two of them had met, how afraid Rinji was, and how definitely not-sober she was. How everything had happened so quickly. In fact, it wasn't just that, but... everything, in a sense.
While there was a momentary sensation of loss, the brunette immediately shook it off. "We'll go drinking someday, though! And there's no backing down once that happens!" She had to find out how a drunk Rinji looked like, after all! It was only fair.
Amelie found herself nodding at the Scolomon's words. She didn't remain to remain in Terminus for too long, and had hoped that the answer that would be given to her was more or less what she got. That was a relief, in a sense. "Very well, then! We shall be going at tomorrow's dawn. After a good night of resting and that stuff."
The conversation wouldn't follow for long, however. As soon as their meal arrived, Amelie gave her a polite "Thank you." to the Meicoomon and began to dig in with gusto.
It was good, as expected. Even if she didn't know what was exactly inside the stew, but that added to the excitement! Silently going through her meal, it was strange for her to be a quiet eater, but she was just that hungry. Before she realized it, she had finished it, a pleased sigh inadvertently escaping her lips as she gazed at Rinji for a second.
"I'll go to the toilet for a second, if you don't mind." Promptly standing up, the brunette excused herself before asking for some directions and then disappearing in the direction corresponding to the back of the tavern.
Maybe at first, Rinji would be at ease but after a while... there was no sign of Amelie coming back. Maybe something had happened to her? Or something that bad had prompted her to go there?
That was hard to know, at least at the moment.

It certainly had been one crazy day, Rinji silently nodded in agreement as Amelie spoke, smiling at the recollection of memories it brought up. After all, stumbling into a completely foreign world wasn't something easily forgotten. Especially when he'd made a friend like Amelie out of it.
Rinji grinned awkwardly at Amelie's drinking proposal. "I'm not much of a big drinker... but I guess I could make an exception?" Truthfully, it was one thing to know what other people were like when they were drunk, but he had no idea what it was like to get drunk. The thought made him a little nervous, but it was just for fun, wasn't it?
Well, it seemed they'd be heading off at first light, then. The Scolomon nodded again, satisfied with the agreement over their plans. "I think I'd feel a lot better with a good night's rest," he commented, thinking back to the last time he'd slept - it'd been for a few hours on the train, and he briefly wondered how he'd managed to make it this far with so little rest.
But now that was behind them, and what was in front of them was a very inviting meal. Without a second thought, Rinji began chomping down onto the steak, easily slicing through the meat with his teeth. Savouring each bite, he and Amelie ate in relative silence. Only the clinging of glasses and chatter of other digimon could be heard, lending for a rather homely atmosphere.
Soon enough and the plate in front of Rinji had been completely cleaned off. He looked up to Amelie as he licked his teeth clean, nodding towards her. "Mh-hm," he acknowledged as she excused herself and walked off towards the toilets.
At first, Rinji sat patiently, quietly observing the scenery around him. What else was there to do? The tavern was homely, at least. It wasn't hard to feel comfortable waiting for Amelie.
A few more minutes passed, and Meicoomon came over to pick up the plates he and Amelie had left. She asked him if he enjoyed the meal, and he nodded and thanked her.
It was maybe five more minutes that passed when Rinji began to feel anxious. Was it normal to take so long? He reached out a yellow claw and started restlessly tapping on the glass of water in front of him.
More time passed and he began to feel worried. What if something had happened to her? Maybe he was being pedantic over it, but protecting her had been the sole reason that he'd come on this trip. If he'd have let something happen to her...
At risk of being either a crummy bodyguard or a clingy friend, he decided that maybe he'd better check on her. It wasn't too weird to just check if your friend was alright, was it?
The centipede quietly slipped away from the empty table, aware that he was leaving his bags. Meicoomon would still be watching, he figured. He shook his head. Forget about the bags, something could've happened to Amy, he thought to himself.
Having headed in the direction he believed Amelie had went, he found himself in a long corridor. Two sets of public toilets, doors marked as male and female, presented themselves. His breath hitched and he felt a rush of blood reach his face. This was going to be awkward...
"Amy? Are you in there? Is everything... alright?" He asked after gently rapping on the female door. If there was no reply... not only was this going to be very awkward, but concerning as well. Would that mean he'd have to go inside? Or that something else could've happened to her?
