Sung-Mi Rey

Her parents were immigrants from South Korea, hoping to live in a more peaceful country to raise their future daughter in. They got their wish. Sort of, at any rate. There were no border sirens or missile tests they had to worry about, but Shibuya harbored its own take on danger. After Sung-Mi had been born there were a handful of incidents in their neighborhood that left unexplainable damage to structures. Craters in roads, smashed in concrete walls, even a flipped over bus at one point. All of these would have to have been caused by heavy equipment or dangerous contraband, but nothing official was ever found. Some neighbors wrote if off as advertising stunts from local companies. Since none of the incidents had occurred close to the Rey family home, and no reports of injuries or deaths had ever came from these odd happenings, the family tentatively remained where they were.

Sung-Mi herself had never directly been involved with these strange occurrences, and merely thought of them as novelties to gossip about with friends at school growing up. She didn’t particularly stand out academically or athletically, but her sweet demeanor made it very easy for her to make friends with others. Feeling secure in her social standing she was caught flat footed when college reared its ugly head. She didn’t really have a lot of skills to help bolster her chances, and when she picked up a job at a bar to help pay the bills she fell into the trap of making money over continuing her education. She never did finish college, although there’s a big part of her that wishes to see it through to the end, one day.

Currently she’s employed at a bar simply called Velvet. The establishment is more of a relaxed atmosphere for adults to unwind with their favorite poisons than a place for youngsters to get rowdy. It’s been her stomping grounds for almost a decade now. It was here that she was given the nickname Sunny, as a ‘shortened’ version of her normal name and a reflection of her perky disposition. Other than drinks she’s provided a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and a friendship to share laughs with. It’s a setup that she feels content with for now, but as she’s getting older she often wonders if she’ll be doing this forever.
