There was always something special about the New Year eve. For some, it's the closing of a chapter and a brand new beginning. Desmond didn't really have an opinion on that. Demi, on the other hand, saw this as the perfect excuse to do something. The two of them debated for a few hours to see what they could do and in the end, they both agreed on going to the Digital World and do a campfire. The blond tamer never really celebrate the passing on the New year preferring summer by far. After buying a few things, Desmond and Demi tested their Digi-Port and off they went to the DigiWorld. After taking the train and walking looking for a good place to settle down for a bit, they found a little spot on the beach they went before. They would wait for the sun to come down but did enjoy seeing it going down that way in an array of colors.
As always, Demi was fascinated with all the beautiful colors. "Look! Look!" He joyfully pointed at the sun without looking back. "Look, Desmond! Look!" The fireball's eyes were glued to the setting sun the whole time while Desmond unpacked his backpack and placing what he bought on the sand next to them. The Frenchman would wait for his partner to look at him before smiling. As the moon showed itself, the stars did so as well. The DemiMeramon was only their primary source of light and heat. Luckily, it wasn't that cold this night and Desmond had plenty of layers of clothing on him. The Digimon was looking up at the starry sky with his mouth wide open in awe. "Look! There's so many of them!" It wasn't his first time seeing stars but he couldn't help but be fascinated by them. Seeing his little partner that way filled Desmond with happiness.
"Hey, Demi." He would softly say his name after a few minutes. The Digimon was on his back when he heard the human calling him. Rolling to face his tamer, Demi was all smile upon seeing a bag filled with marshmallows. He saw them before but never had the chance to taste it. Desmond opened the bag and took out a metal skewer and poke one of it before giving it to Demi. "Here, hold it with one hand." He gave the stick to him and with his other hand, he closed his hand. "And close your other hand." The fireball looked at the white marshmallow for a second, a bit confused. Why did he need to hold it with his other hand, would that just crush it? None the less, Demi did so and closed his hand on the marshmallow. He would wait while looking at the blond tamer still trying to understand what would happen next. "Open your hand."
Demi slowly opened his hand and then saw that the marshmallow was now toasted by the heat of his own body. "Ooooh!" He looked at the treat and then Desmond with wide eyes and an even wider smile. "Go ahead, eat it." The fireball opened his mouth and placed the marshmallow in it. He began chewing and to be honest, he really liked it. It was mostly sugar but like a little kid, he loves anything sugary. "Can I have another one?" He quickly asked with puppy eyes. The Frenchman laughed and gave him another one. "Eat slowly, otherwise, you won't have some for later." The Digimon nodded and placed it into his hand once more. Desmond would wait for a bit longer, just looking at how happy his partner was on this beach under the stars. Seeing him smiling and laughing was very contagious. Demi even gave one to him which he happily took. It seemed that Demi was learning to share, which is a very good sign.
After a few more minutes, Desmond took out something else from beside him. It was a small rod that was coated with something. "Do you know what this is?" He asked the fireball with a smile. Demi tilted his head on one side and looked at the small rod. "What is this?" He asked with curiosity. "We call it a sparkler. It makes sparkles." The Digimon inched closer to carefully study it. It didn't look like it was anything special. "Here, hold it." He gave the small sparkler to his partner and pointed to the tip of it. "Lit it up." Demi hesitated for second before inhaled air and then blow a tiny ball of fire that hit the sparkler and then, well the tip burst into sparkles. The sudden light made Demi jump a bit but after a second, he found it rather pretty. "Look! Look!" He shouted before shaking it around. The blond tamer would let the little Digimon spin on himself with the sparkler in hand and couldn't help but to laugh. All of this made for a good night so far.
When the sparkler died, Demi quickly stopped spinning and looked at Desmond with a smile. "Can I have another one?" He asked while floating closer and closer. "What's the magic word?" The human asked before showing him one more of those little rods. "Please!" Desmond would slowly extend his arm to give him the small firework before giving him a gentle pat on the head. "Good, now go run around." He didn't have to say that twice, as soon as he lit it, the Digimon began floating in a circle around his tamer with joy. "Wheeeee!"
Desmond would take that moment to just relax for a moment. He had other surprises from Demi but he wanted him to have fun all night long. Or at least until he gets too sleepy. He reached out to grab a can of beer from next to him. It wasn't anything fancy but he did enjoy a drink to start the New Year. Or to end it, both works. Cracking it open, he took a long sip while still hearing his partner running around him. Looking up at the sky, he too began getting lost in those little dots. The moon was here as well. He could remember spending a lot of time watching it growing up. But unlike the stars, the moon can be seen more often. It didn't make it boring, but it was nice to see those stars and moon shining together. Taking another sip, the human then saw Demi going closer with his sparkler burned out. The Digimon didn't say anything at first seeing his tamer look above. "What are you drinking?" He asked before dropping the small rod on the sand. "Nothing fancy." He simply answered very vaguely. "I got something for you though." He reached out and show him a bottle of orange juice, his favorite.
"Ooooooh!" The fireball eyes were almost as sparkling at the stars. "For me?" Desmond laughed once more and twisted it open for him. "All for you." Demi waited patiently for his tamer to give him the bottle but it was easy to see how excited he was right now. The human would wait a few more seconds before slowly handing him the bottle of juice. "Don't drink it all too fast, I don't have another one." Nodding once more, Demi smiled and began pouring the juice into his large mouth. "Yummy!" To be fair though, he had no clue that this New Year celebration would be that good. And Desmond seemed to have more to show him.
The two of them would take their time drinking their respective drinks while eating the rest of the marshmallows. "Desmond." The Digimon would stop eating to look at the tall blond. "Uh?" Demi smiled at him and went closer to hug him. "Thank you!" That made Desmond very happy. It was two simple words but it was always nice to hear them. Some people just take everything for granted but hearing Demi said those words made him blush a bit. "You are welcome." He would quietly whisper while hugging. "How come we don't do that every day?" It was a good question. Demi didn't really understand why people celebrate some days and not the other ones. Desmond didn't seem to be the kind of guy that celebrate a lot of things, he surely doesn't plan much ahead of time. The blond tamer let go of the hug and stayed silent for a few seconds. "Well..." He was trying to find the right words to not confuse his partner. "See, we, humans, like to do something special every once and then..." He already felt that that just made it confusing.
"If we were to do it every day, then it would be boring to do the same thing every day." Demi nodded before taking a big gulp of the bottle of juice. "So to make things special, we celebrate as we do right now." After saying that, Desmond also took a sip. "Don't overthink it." He then said before Demi could ask more questions. "Just enjoy the night." And to distract him, he pointed up at the sky. "We humans also like to draw things with the stars." The fireball looked up once more trying to see at where his tamer was pointing at exactly. "Try making a line with them." It would take Demi a few seconds before moving his fingers in every direction. "Oh! Look!" The Frenchman had no idea at what his partner was trying to draw but he just played along. "What do you see?" He asked while drinking. "I see a bird!" It was very easy to see that he was having a lot of fun. "Can you see it too?"
Desmond nodded and laughed. "Yes, I can." It was a lie but it was done to make Demi happy. The two of them would spend a few more minutes on their back. The Digimon would shout every now and then to ask if his tamer could see what he was seeing and the answer was always yes. Demi had no reasons to not believe him anyway. "Okay, I have one more thing for you." The human stood up and took two small paper lanterns. "Come with me." Demi took one final gulp before placing the bottle next to Desmond's backpack. "You remember the shooting stars?" Of course, he did, it was so beautiful. "You made a wish back then, remember?" Another nod from Demi. "Well, to start the new year, let's make another one."
The child Digimon looked at Desmond and the paper lanterns before looking up. There weren't any shooting stars tonight. He thought that you had to wait to see one of them to make a wish. "I saw it somewhere and thought we could do that too." A moment of silence and the blond tamer motioned Demi to come closer. "I'm going to need your help here." The fireball stood still for a second before floating to be next to Desmond who kneeled down and took out a sharpie pen. "I'll write your name on this one and you can write mine on the other one." With his left hand, the human would scribble Demi on the inside of the lantern before giving the pen to him. "Remember how to write mine?" Demi took the pen and looked at the paper lantern but did not write anything. He then wrote Desmond in bold letters. "Good job." And he raised his hand for a high five. "Now, you carefully lit this part and that lantern will float away."
"And then, your wish will come true." Demi was about to open his mouth to say something but Desmond placed a finger on him. "Don't tell me. Just wish for it." A moment of silence and then the Digimon began nodding and waving his hands. "Okay!" And with that, he lit both lanterns and they began floating away into the horizon. "And there we go." Desmond sat down close to the water and Demi went for a hug which the human gladly took. "Happy New Year, Demi."
"Happy New Year!"
