Walking In My Shoes [Chester]

Yukiko was glad to have found someone so interested in their club. Chester really seemed to be into the whole science matter with his heart and soul! But talking to Ayumi would be hard since she was busy so often. "Ah, I c-c-can arrange a mee-" The sound of Shiro dislodging the tank made her cringe, and turn to look. She mouthed a little "Uh-oh..." before coughing and managing a tiny, awkward smile. "S-s-s-sure, I can talk to her!"
Mizu was rather upset with the polar bear in the meantime. "Oh no, you stupid lug! Usako is gonna kill you for that!" Before the polar bear could react to the Betamon's words, he felt a presence next to him. A very, very intimidating presence which filled the deepest parts of his digicore with dread. The presence spoke. "I would suggest you put that back if you intend to live much longer."

Antagonizing Shiro was a pretty dumb idea all things considered. He'd knocked over the thing keeping him from his food successfully, yes, but for him that just meant a good soaking and a poor soar ribcage on which the aquarium landed, causing it to spill a little water but no fish. The thing was largely intact. The polar bear was about to growl in his own defense, but he was swiftly silenced. So was Chester, for that matter; that presence was just very intimidating. "He's sorry!" Chester stepped in to save his little buddy, followed by breaking from Ayumi to attempt to lift the aquarium back up. "Agh- geez, that's a lotta water. Shiro, help me out here?"
Shiro was surprisingly enough making himself useful without any encouragement. While Chester tried to lift one end, Shiro - with wide eyes and dilated pupils - was on two legs, attempting to lift the other. It involved a lot of grunting and splashing, but together the pair successfully remounted the aquarium with about a half of its water either on the floor or soaked into Shiro's fur. "OK. OK? All is right with the world!" the young man pleaded with the voice before adding, "So, uh... can you show me how you did that?" He was referring to the fact that for a moment the wild polar bear was finally obedient for once.

Yukiko tried her best to help bear and man lift the aquarium back onto its stand, while Mizu tried her hardest to soak up the water with...her belly. Her body *was* somewhat absorbent, but this was way too much. The source of the voice was a pair of eyes in the darkness, glowing red, with cross shaped pupils. It -radiated- threat. "Good good. How to do this, young man?" The figure stepped out of the darkness...revealing a short, robotic bunny Digimon with various number keys on its belly. Its ears seemed to function as arms. It was floating, making it look bigger. Strangely, even once one saw this Digimon's true form, the intense sense of dread did not vanish. "Well, first you must learn how to put the fear of God in someone." Yukiko gulped. Oh dear, she was angry, she better calm things down. With an awkward smile, she dove between Shiro, Chester and the Digimon. "Ah, l-l-l-let me introduce you! Chester, this is Usako-sensei, she runs this building for us! Usako, this is Chester, he's a friend who's new to DigimoN! We'resosorrypleasedontbemad."

First they saw its looming black shadow. Then they saw those dark, satanic eyes. Chester and Shiro simultaneously gulped and stepped backwards after restoring the fish tank. "...I see," was about all that Shiro could muster up in answer to this 'helpful instruction,' but what he really meant was he could see Usako demonstrating that very skill and acknowledging she was indeed a master at it.
But the robot rabbit seemed a little less dreadful when it moved to where it became visible. OK, yes, levitating robot rabbits were still really, really weird, especially to Chester who was still so knew at these affairs, but his curiosity was engaged as well. "You're a digimon, too? That must mean digimon can be mechanical as well as organic, maybe even cyborgian." The young man said that as if it wasn't a tacit and basic fact, but to him it wasn't. "I apologize for his behavior. I'm responsible for him."

Usako crossed her arm ears, sizing up Shiro and Chester. Yukiko stood behind them, looming with a very "I'm so sorry" look! Then, she sighed. "Well, I cannot blame your Partner for making mischief like that, he does not seem to have been gifted with sapience by Yggdrasil. And you saw that correctly, I am a robotic Digimon, but I am just as alive and aware as any organic Digimon." Still, as she put a hand on the tank, she shot Shiro a *nasty* look. She was small, but her very look told the bear that antagonizing this bunny was a very bad idea. Behind them, Yukiko deflated as the tension seeped from the situation. "I w-w-will help you fix the tank later, Usako!" "That is very kind of you. But for now, why doesn't your new friend here tell me about himself and his overgrown angora rabbit?"

"Yggdrasil?" Chester supposed this reference to Nordic mythology was odd, but so was everything else about this place. What struck him was that Yggdrasil was just supposed to be a tree to which Odin's horse was tied in the old myths. It couldn't mean anything else... right?
Maybe Shiro had submitted to this scary digimon earlier, but she was starting to push her luck. The bear didn't back down any further and instead started to stare right back. Maybe Usako was less scary to him when she stepped into the light, else perhaps the polar bear was just getting tired of being pushed around. If his behavior was anything like the real deal, pack politics weren't in their genes.
Chester leaned down to put a hand on his head, his attempt to keep the creature calm, as he spoke to Usako. "Well, I'm Chester Green, 23 years old, and Shiro appears to be a bear, not a rabbit, at least from what I can tell. He sounds like one, too, and from what I've seen he can devour trout like one as well."
"I'm a keeper at the zoo in Tokyo. I'm from Seattle, actually, but-" He interrupted himself. "Erm, do you actually know what those places are? Anyway, back in America I worked in a Japanese restaurant to help pay for my education at the University of Washington. I got my Bachelor's in zoology from there. Moved to Tokyo a few months later 'cause, well, was thinking about my Japanese heritage at the time and just thought it would be fun." He shrugged. "Already knew how to use chopsticks. Got my job at the zoo to pay the bills and do something with my degree, and I've been doing that while I decide whether to go for higher education or try and get a job in the science side of zoology. Always liked animals, though. Never liked much else, either."
Shiro's pupils shrank a little bit as Chester started to scratch his head. "I don't know what much there's to say about Shiro except he eats like a bear, growls like a bear, snores like a bear, and pisses in the most inconvenient spots he can find like a bear."

Usako's eyes glanced at Shiro, but were contend with the bear just behaving, not pushing further against him. If he knew what was good for him, he'd notice, and behave.
"I am well familiar with Human World geography, it is a part of our grand database I managed to secure. Woodland Park Zoo, I assume? At any rate, I am most delighted to meet you, in spite of the circumstances. I enjoy meeting those passionate about the sciences. As for your partner..." She gave Shiro another look. This one wasn't dismissive, but rather inquisitive. "It is quite a rarity for a human to bond with a Digimon lacking sapience. Usually, it is the sapience that allows them to bond in the first place. There must be something quite unique about you and him to allow for the creation of such a bond."

"Yeah, I kinda noticed the difference between him and everyone else." Chester pursed his lips, then stepped up beside Shiro. He started to calm the ursine by firmly grasping the scruff on the back of his neck for his attention, then massaging it firmly. Shiro seemed to relax and even began to contently rumble. "If there's something unique there somewhere, I don't know what it is yet. Would really love to, though." When he took his hand back, Shiro followed it with his gaze like he was expecting more, but he didn't get more.
"I did love Woodland Park when I lived there, but I never worked there. Ueno's my first and only workplace... least, for now."

The bunny nodded. "Guess I guessed wrong. Regardless, working with animals sounds like a fun occupation. Master Armstrong has also often expressed interest in working with animals, specifically waterborne animals." Yuki squeaked as attention was shifted back to her. "E-e-eep! Uh, y-y-yeah, but he knew that already." "Ah, I see, silly me. Regardless, you seem to be aware of ways to calm your polar bear down. Maybe we can take him to the lab and do a brainscan, to find out why sapience has passed him by." She looked the bear over once again. Now that things had calmed down, there was no further anger in her eyes.
