Place to Learn, urge to Burn [Eris & Bero]

It was the noise that got Eris's attention first as well as the solid weight of her tail impacting with a warm body as she struggled with the disorientation of suddenly finding herself much much bigger then she was used to. Pulling her clawed hands away from her face she marveled down at them for a brief moment slack jawed in surprise before her gaze drifted to the rather battered form of Bero. In the distance she could hear the low rumble of thunder dark clouds casting the training grounds in grey light as they pair stood there panting and staring at each other. Well Eris was staring. She'd probably qualify what Bero was doing more as 'glaring.' Until finally all at once like a damn breaking words seemed to spill from the Black Growlmon's lips.
"OhmySovereignsI'msosorry!" She rambled out in a panic claws held out in a placating manner as she took a hesitant step forward nearly tripping over her own feet. For her species Eris as in truth rather on the small side for a Growlmon, but fir a Digimon that was used to being no bigger then a bean or in times of stress a medium to small sized lizard like dragon to suddenly find herself so tall was incredibly disorientating. Worse yet she couldn't quite figure out how to change back.
"Are you ok?" Eris asked trying to crouch down to look a little less threatening her face wrought with concern.

Honestly, his opponent wasn’t as large as he thought champions usually were, but it was a champion nonetheless. Bero’s form was indeed battered but he pulled himself up. The two shared an awkward stare for a moment, as Bero watched her, bewildered at how she had been both so… cocky earlier, so friendly before that, and looking nervous and inexperienced now. In truth, it had all been similar enough to tell it was one person respond to Bero in different ways, it just wasn’t the response Bero expected.
As she came closer and held her claws out, Bero got himself standing on his own two legs, refusing any help she might offer. He more so just stared at her, semi-bewildered, as the darkening sky slowly presented it’s further plans. The usual pitter patter of rain was replaced with the sounds of soft sissing. Any rain that touched Bero’s flaming hot cape, thin wisps of blue fire still hanging onto it, evaporated immediately. As the rain continued, Bero’s blue fires started to weaken.
“I’m fine.” Bero spoke in the most short, to the point tone he could. He rarely let his confusion bleed into his voice, so he instead spoke with slight offense and annoyed surprise. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to ask her why she didn’t change in her champion earlier… or just walk away in annoyed disbelief. She had taken his taunts, but didn’t act like a digimon should at all. Before Bero even spoke, a tap of water hit his nose, and the distraction sort of snapped him out of his thought. He turned his head slowly, looking upwards at the rainy sky, as more raindops hit his cloak and sizzled, slowly cooling it down.

"Oh...ok." Eris murmured her voice soft as they stood there for a moment as the rain rolled in. The feel of water droplets running over the tender wounds that marred her hide drawing a soft almost flame like hiss from the Eris as she whimpered.
"Sorry." She added in a small quiet voice barely above a whisper. She felt so tired. Her vision blurring a little as the form ate up her energy making her shoulder sag though she was quick to flinch as lightning struck nearby causing nearly deafening thunder to roll over them.
"Come on we need to get to cover!" Eris called out over the growing winds as she rushed towards one of the tents that had been setup. Not that the flimsy fabric would be much protection with the wind and cold rain, but it was better than huddling under a tree and risking getting electrocuted.

Bero didn’t mind the rain as much. The feeling of the water hitting his wounds didn’t give any reaction from him, despite the pain they brought. Bero had gotten used to pain in general. Eris seemed to be keeping it polite, which only confused Bero some more. He was the one who had goaded and insulted her into fighting with him. Almost any other digimon he met would demand he would be the one to apologize. But here Eris was, acting like some sort of giant toddler.
The small sorry she whispered, Bero just wasn’t sure how to respond to it. It wasn’t the reply he was used to getting and to be honest, he wasn’t sure if it was the reply he wanted. But a lightning strike had brought him back to the world once more. Eris suggested they should look for cover, and started running to one of the nearby tents. Bero wasn’t so worried, he had been hit by many a lightning attack in the past, but getting hurt for no reason wasn’t something he was looking for either. “Alright alright.”
He had difficulty walking, so employed his cape to serve as four extra legs to help him move forward. As he had to set fire to the cape to control it, blue fires eclipsed his form. As he walked, the flames fought back against the water, being beat down by the rain and causing a constant hissing sound. Keeping it up was tiring for Bero, but it did make him move much faster. He toughed it out to follow after Eris, although not quite at the same speed, arriving under safe cover and dousing his flames after Eris did. His cape continued to hiss softly for a bit, slight water vapours coming off of it.

Eris was quick to duck under the tent nearly tearing it from it's moorings with her tail as she attempted to compact herself into such a small space and make room for Bero. Shifting as far to one side as she could so he could get in out of the rain which had begun to come down in earnest now. Turning the world around them into a running wash of colors through the heavy sheets of water as thunder roared in the distance. Causing the Black Growlmon to nearly lose the grip she held on her tail in her surprise, but managed to grab it at the last second to keep it from twitching and lashing in worry. Causing her to decide that this form was far more troublesome then her sleeker and smaller Sealsdramon form.
For a long silent moment she just stared out at the rain trying her best to stay low and yet out of the dirt in case it got into her cuts and unsure how to approach the now soaked Black Gubumon who's fur had begun to fluff up a little from the steam.
"I didn't know I was going to evolve. I didn't mean to. It was unfair of me to hit you as a champion even if it was an accident." She finally explained shifting uncomfortably as she eyed Bero with those big blue eyes of hers. Bully or no Eris wasn't a fan of using dirty tricks in a spar of all things and she hadn't wanted to really hurt the Black Gabumon.

Unfair? Was unfair really what she thought it was? Life was unfair, Digimon being at every turn of every level, never a guarantee you’d be able to empower yourself safely. One hiding and pretending to be a champion is.. Kind of just the karmic life style that Bero had expected at this point. “Whatever. Accident or not, you won the fight.”
He admitted, knowing well he had been defeated. He also learned a trick this fight, and learned on what level he had to increase his reflexes. He had better be more prepared for uppercuts and the sort in the future. Although, he had something he wondered. “I’d rather know where in the name of the demon kingdoms you pulled that barrier from. I’ve never seen a BlackGuilmon pull out anything like that.”
Bero spoke with blunt honesty dominating his tone and manner of approach. He figured that Eris would be too polite to not respond really, so if he just calmly sat down and stared her straight in the eyes, she wouldn’t avoid the conversation. The fact she was a champion aside. He had no idea how draining it was for her, and seemed to have no concern for her directly despite her kindness. He wanted answers, he wanted to figure out the combat first, learn from it. How she had become a champion didn’t bother him, and why she showed herself as an in-training when she could be so much further didn’t bother him as much either. She was just weird, and he was ready to leave it at that.

Eris blinked shifting to try to make more room for Bero out of politeness, but no matter how she shifted it still left the flush and clustered together like a basket of puppies all too big limbs and tails. Tongue clasped between her lips in thought as she considered the situation the Black Growlmon blinked taken aback by Bero's sudden question as well as his admission of defeat.
"Oh that! I just used my D-MR. My Dad had it installed into my frame when I was barely out of the egg. Though I didn't get any data-chips till I was older." She explained as if that revealed everything that had happened.
"My Dad said it's easier if you get it done young cause your frame can grow around it." She elaborated, "Though you can get a D-MR installed at any time. They're super handy though not the end all and begin all of combat." Eris added flashing Bero a toothy smile before her form seemed to shimmer.

“D-MR? Data-chips? It’s all gibberish to me… but it’s something you had installed from outside? That sounds lame and not really in the spirit of attaining strength for combat. It’s good they don’t infringe on the importance of skill, then.” He said with a sour look. Eris’ form seemed to shimmer but Bero didn’t seem to care. “I can’t believe i never figured that out earlier. I’d think such cheap tactics wouldn’t be so popular, but they could explain some of the difficulties i tend to have." He didn’t want to look at Eris directly. He wasn’t happy having lost to her, mixed with the fact she could go champion and that she used these data-chips, something that was visually clear in his lost arms and occasional irritated sigh.
“I go through on power and skill alone. And someday, even the strongest digimon will bow before my strength, and i’ll live how i want without fear for repercussions. You and other digimon and their ‘data-chips’ included.” there was a certain bitterness in his tone, it was almost fury incarnate. He didn’t seem like he intended to use a DMR or datachips anytime soon. Even if the shimmering of her form increased, he looked the other way and stared at the rain, his lilac eyes slanted into unpleasant position and focused with great intensity. Rain was also something he needed to overcome and outdo someday as well. But perhaps not overcoming it today was fine, it wasn’t really inhibiting him too much, not more than his already established wounds were. "Damned Rain."

The Black Growlmon's form gave way with a shimmer of light leaving not the little red Gigimon he had been familiar with, but a tiny black one as Eris let out a soft wheeze. The force of the transformation as her form snapped back into place leaving the tiny In-training digimon winded as she lay on her stomach only to try to stand on wobbly legs with a whimper as dirt stung the claw marks on her sides.
"Data chips aren't~" She tried to explain sitting back on her tail as she panted eyes unfocused as she swayed. "They aren't cheating, just a new...new type of tool." The Gigimon murmured as she closed her eyes to keep the world from spinning. She needed to concentrate if she was going to activate her card and heal herself. However, the way her side stung and the roar of the rain and thunder and the anger that radiated off of Bero like sizzling heat took what little attention she had to spare distracting her from her task. Leaving her to try in vain to twist and lick at her side trying to clean her wounds that slowly weeped data.

Bero stared out to the rain as Eris dedigivolved. She seemed tired and hurt. The attack he had done upon her still burned at him. To be fair, he was still in pain too, but it seemed he beared it better than she did. She had difficulty trying to heal herself and reply at the same time. He grunted, usually he would never be helpful, but if someone could beat him, and seemed so friendly… it means he’d probably get somebody else angry if he didn’t do something.
“There’s nothing as cheating in life. It’s just… making use of the tools available to you. But that doesn’t mean cheap tricks aren’t cheap. When you substitute something as your strength, you make it that much harder to develop your strengths and your flaws. Also, you’re not going to heal like that.” Bero let soft fires go over the arms of his cloak, and they stretched out to Eris, picking her up, the blue fire coming very close… and then never touching her, sliding around her like she repelled it, keeping her in a pleasantly warm bubble, held up by Bero’s claw. Bero made sure it supported her well and let her basically lie down in a more comfortable fashion on something that was cleaner and softer than dirt. There, maybe she could recuperate now.

At first the little In-Training Digimon flinched from the sudden shock of his touch. Then slowly, oh so slowly she relaxed her entire body seeming to go limp as she nuzzled into the warmth of his grip. Giving her a chance to concentrate as she pulled up the feeling of her data chip and began licking at her cuts and wounds. Her data beginning to gradually knit itself back together in the process as the little Gigimon looked up at him tongue still stuck between her teeth in a tiny blep. Then wiggling forward in Bero's grip she very gently licked the tip of his nose. "Thank you Bero~" She chirped cuddling into the soft warmth of his coat with a lot happy thrum that seemed to rumble up from the depths of the little Gigimon's chest. Vibrating through her small form and into the Black Gabumon like a low purr of contentment. SD-03 Card Name: Regenerate! She had finally managed to heal herself, the carefulness of Bero’s flames aiding her in her endeavours, and her fixing herself up. Bero looked at her with slanted, half-interested eyes. Looks like he couldn’t even muster a joyous expression in the face of unchallengeable cuteness. His tone flat, he responded to her healing. “Now, i could agree on using those thi-”
Before Bero even finish that though, she had licked the tip of his nose and thanked him. He stared at her, his eyes wide open in annoyed surprise. He was absolutely dumbfounded. Was this… In-training who could go Champion, whatever the weird situation was that made her go back in-training, acting cute with him?
He didn’t, he couldn’t comprehend an act like this. He sneered slightly. “Please don’t do that. The whole ‘cute’ thing is just a bother.” Normally, he wouldn’t have bothered with saying please, but he was speaking to a potential champion. He put her down and as the flames on his cloak resided, they lost their elastic nature and snapped back into a more neutral position behind him, laying on the ground as he sat. The constant piddling of rainfall hit the tent’s cloth above him. Bero looked down at Eris in slight irritation. He wasn’t sure what to say, but he couldn’t just silently say nothing. “Why do you act so… harmless?” One could only suspect Bero meant to say ‘nice’, but that the word hadn’t existed in his vocabulary. His raised eyebrow and genuine confusion made it seem like it wouldn’t be very surprising if he genuinely hadn’t known the word. It was simply matter of fact that no one had ever really been nice to him.
For good reason.

"You think I'm cute?" Eris questioned tilting her head at him a small happy smile spreading across her little face even as he set her down. Though the Gigimon didn't stay put for long. Instead she rubbed against his front with a happy thrum the heat of Bero's flames warding off the chill that had begun to creep through the air. Peering up at him with those big blue eyes she couldn't help, but look confused at his question.
"Act like what? Why would I be acting? I'm just being me." She murmured unsure of what the Black Gabumon was implying as she shivered a bit and pressed further against him only to flinch at another bright flash and loud boom of thunder. Causing the little In-Training Digimon to practically try to inch her way under the Gabumon's coat to get away from the storm that raged outside clearly unnerved.

Eris took the wrong words right out of Bero’s mouth, to his great irritation. Could she have taken his insult more incorrectly than as a compliment? Well, if it prevented her from being pissed off and teaching him a lesson as a Growlmon… He’d have to deal with it. She continued to try to nuzzle and stay close to him, to his ever increasing irritation. This couldn’t be more of a mismatch of personalities, and one that Bero was forced to deal with, pretty much. Unless he were looking to brave the rain. He looked outside, trying to ignore the physical contact a bit. Even with thunder striking right after he looked outside, the rain looked mighty inviting compared to the affectionate act of ‘cuddling’ that Eris attempted to include him in.
Bero grunted as she tried to crawl under his cloak. Well, at least she wasn’t trying to steal it, so he wouldn’t be stopping her directly. “I mean, you are acting a bit, aren’t you? You were black just a second ago, and look at you now. Equally virus all the same but you hardly stand out when you’re as bright as your surroundings.” He casually remarked to her, not responding to the attempted cuddles and the gigimon trying to get into his coat. He didn’t need to deal with this, he didn’t need to dignify this behaviour with a response, did he? Oh Sovereigns above, he hoped not. Maybe the comment would annoy her and get her out of his fur. Literally.

Eris took the fact Bero didn't push her away as a positive change as she circled three times before curling into his side under her coat. Only to blink up at him with those big blue eyes in continued confusion though she noted he didn't deny that she was in fact cute.
"Oh I'm red so I look like my Dad and won't get attacked. Red Guilmon lines are more tolerated where I live then black ones." She chirped as if that explained everything as she settled down basking in the Black Gabumon's warmth as she rested her little head on her paws. Her ear twitching every so often at the latest flash of thunder and lightning.
"I like being red, but I think you look very pretty as you are too Bero." Eris added worrying that perhaps he thought she wouldn't like him due to his coat color or something silly like that. Personally she liked his appearance better then normal Gabumon's.
