Best Pairing Ever? (DFRP Valentines Event)

Tadayoshi felt better after and because Rebecca expressed that she felt better. He didn't forget what exactly she and her digimon were capable of; when he first met her, she jumped straight into a paramilitary operation that required her digimon to face several dozen hostile digimon. Not only did she and her team succeed without shedding any blood, but Rebecca herself held her own all by herself. Tadayoshi very much admired what he saw as Rebecca's toughness both mental and physical, independence, and daring. It didn't feel right for a girl like that to be staring downward and retreating, so it was both a relief and a pleasure to see her show a little resilience.
What wasn't a pleasure was the check Tadayoshi was reminded of. Thank God he didn't have to pay rent or living expenses; that meant his income from AEGIS could go a long, long way. Could it go this long, though? Maybe... barely. But it was worth it no matter how the night ended. "Don't worry about it," Tadayoshi gentlemanly dismissed while himself fighting the urge to upchuck from the thought, "I'll take care of it." It didn't even occur to him that the wealthy idol who asked him out in the first place should open her purse. He just thought he saw a chance to volunteer and took it.
Reluctantly, Tadayoshi agreed with Rebecca's assessment of his father. However, the agreement was only partial. "Father just wants me to be the best I can be," he pushed back, "He doesn't hurt me or scream at me or tell belittle me. He's very strict, though." Tadayoshi needed a moment to find any sort of silver lining, but he found one. "One can't say it doesn't work. I work hard to be at the top of my class, and I usually am or close to it. The only one I'm having difficulty in is my theater course. The teacher is a bit of an..." The young man needed another moment to think of a diplomatic term. "...oddball. He's not a lecture-and-test sort of teacher."
Tadayoshi was modest and humble in the face of direct praise. "I don't know if I'm much more help on this side of the portal. The homeless people are still homeless, and the shelter cages are still full. Someone else will do everything I ever did. So..." Tadayoshi flashed his Loader again, this time as a nonverbal way of making his real point. "We do good things other people won't do now, and only things that make a difference in someone's life. Maybe it's only in the digital world, but people are people. I hope we can all find a way to make life better for humans some time." That thought and the next made Tadayoshi smile a bit. "You should meet the army some time. We're two dozen strong now and can't seem to stop growing."
The smile faded a little after that but didn't completely disappear. Tadayoshi took a pause and politely concluded, "I'm sorry. I think I spoke of myself for too long. Why don't you tell me some things about you I don't know?"

"Come on, it was my choice of the restaurant anyways," Rebecca laughed, opening up her purse and taking out her wallet, "you don't have to be the gentleman. I'll pay for it, don't worry. I just think the prices are kind of ridiculous, but nothing I can't afford." Rebecca didn't want Tadayoshi wasting all of his money on her, anyways.
Rebecca listened as Tadayoshi began to talk about his father. While he did agree that he wasn't that good of a father, he did explain why he did what he did, saying that he is only strict and doesn't hit or yell at Tadayoshi. "My parents were amazing. They cared for me and my brother, and they always were supportive of us and helping us be the best we could be. They were scientists, specializing in the digital fields, so they made the most of whatever little time they had with us. Before they event, I heard them go on and on about this amazing discovery that they were researching... sound familiar?"
Rebecca raised an eyebrow when Tadayoshi mentioned the crazy theater teacher. "Are you talking about Nawabe? I took his class a year or two ago. This one time someone was late for class, so he got two other students to carry him through the air as he leapt across the room shouting..., and I quote... 'How DAAAAAAARE you arrive late!?'" She mimicked the teacher's movements as she said that last part, laughing and she couldn't hold it together. "How does that whack-a-mole still have his job, anyways?"
She listened as Tadayoshi went on about how happy he was as the general of Silence, and how he wants to make humans as happy as he made Digimon. "Yeah... making people happy is why I chose to be an idol." Rebecca was about to share some stuff about herself... until she noticed a couple of strange figures a couple of tables away. One was a male with blonde hair, and the other was a male with silver hair.
"...goddammit," she groaned, before pulling Tadayoshi into a whisper, "Agumon and Gabumon were spying on us the whole time. What should we do... to get back at them?"

The traditionalist gentleman in Tadayoshi was tempted to insist on paying for the meal, but Rebecca did make a very convincing argument (and it helped that she wasn't wanting for idol money according to her). It took a good while for Tadayoshi to swallow his normal leanings, but once he did he simply sat back, smiled, and submitted, "As you wish." Maybe there were worse problems to have than a free dinner. Heck, exactly said problems were the topic of discussion just earlier.
Rebecca went on to imply something quite extraordinary. It didn't take a genius to get what she was hinting at, but even if it did Tadayoshi would have been close enough to understand. "Are you saying your parents, without digivices, discovered the digital world?" The question was rhetorical. "For all we know, that could make them the first humans to have ever independently discovered it. Obviously the Japanese government knows, but we don't know how. I wonder what they'd think of their daughter, especially given that." Tadayoshi's smile nonverbally suggested that it would be many good things.
Tadayoshi was glad that Rebecca was familiar with the exact details of Tadayoshi's academic predicament, but he couldn't quite laugh at her impression of the instructor. More respectfully than Rebecca, he called him, "Mr. Nawabe..." looking stunned before explaining, "...that was a little too accurate. That's definitely the same man, though. I wish he would just give us a quiz, not have us practice the Stanislavsky method."
When Rebecca whispered that some unwelcome familiar faces were nearby, Tadayoshi followed some of his training from his army. He didn't look immediately, and when he did it was through peripheral vision by following Rebecca's gaze, followed by sweeping his eyes past them and pretending to look at something else. This was supposed to ensure that a mark doesn't believe they're being marked or tracked. "Blond and gray?" he quietly confirmed, referring to their hair colors. "And you scolded me for bringing my Loader. Normally I'm not the vengeful kind like that, but if you really want to get at them..." Tadayoshi needed a moment to think. "One moment." Tadayoshi snagged called the attention of a waitress and called her attention to the digimon's table. "Hi. Our friends over there are celebrating their first anniversary as a couple, and we're kinda spying on them. Heh. Do you think there's something the restaurant can do to really make it big and special?" The waitress indicated there was but didn't specify before heading off. "I'm sure they'll think of something."

Rebecca smiled when Tadayoshi eventually gave in and allowed her to pay the bill. She got out her purse and pulled out the necessary amount of Yen that would pay off the unnecessarily high bill from their date.
It didn't take Tadayoshi long to figure out what Rebecca was talking about when she explained how her parents were about to find something extraordinary. "I'm not entirely sure yet, but I've done some digging and it seems like they were pretty close to discovering it. I think things would've been very different today if they shared what they found." Rebecca kinda froze a little bit when Tadayoshi asked what her parents might have thought of her if they were still around. "To be honest, I... I don't really know."
Now it was back to the fun and games when Rebecca gave her little impression of the eccentric drama teacher, Nawabe. Tadayoshi commented on how it was a little too accurate. "Well yeah, I hope it was! I actually got a voice acting part for this new anime coming out. It's like a magical girl thing, but it's also a musical. And yeah, after that incident I stopped taking his class. No drama class was worth that craziness."
That good mood was almost destroyed when Rebecca discovered Agumon and Gabumon, in holosuit disguises, spying on their date. How could they? She just really wanted this to be just her and Tadayoshi, yet the latter brought his Xros Loader and Commandramon, and now her own Digimon were spying on her. Suddenly Tadayoshi called over a waitress, telling her that the Digimon were spending their first anniversary as a couple and they wanted to surprise them, which made Rebecca use all of her strength to try not to laugh.
The waitress then walked off. The two Digimon saw everything and began to get up and walk out. Unfortunately they were too slow, as before long a group of waiters began surrounding the disguised Digimon, with cake and champagne and congratulating them on their anniversary.
"Oh my god," Rebecca said, laughing at her partners' misfortune. "That is just too perfect!"

Tadayoshi wasn't smiling as he watched an army of servers, cooks, hosts, and the owner of the establishment descend upon their digital tails. Sure, they weren't being harmed, but that sort of petty revenge wasn't really in the boy's nature. Combat was one thing, but this was a mild violation of privacy at worst. "I'm not sure I feel good about what I've just caused," Tadayoshi admitted with a little sadness in his voice. Father taught me better. Vengeance is never the answer. But he also watched the twins struggle to deal with the ambush of sweets and fine drinks, and, well... that was quite funny. He couldn't quite resist cracking a smile and chuckling a bit. Yes, he got over his preoccupation with morals and revenge quite quickly. "Now I am," he retracted only moments after expressing his remorse earlier. "I'll apologize to them later, I suppose. Whew! It feels kind of fun to break the rules a little." After all, Tadayoshi was a different person at different times, too. While not conducting a paramilitary operation he was a kind, gentle, and eager-to-confirm young boy.
"I'm sorry, what were you saying a moment ago?" Tadayoshi thought back a moment or two in order to remember just what the pair had been talking about before they were so rudely interrupted. "Ah, yes. Things would be extremely different if the digital world were discovered by humans without digivices. The first difference I already see-" Tadayoshi quit smiling about then. "-is we might not have any need for DATS. I think the digital world might have blended much more seamlessly with ours if the world at large were forced to reckon with the fact that it's there, it's reaching out, and it's not going away. It sounds like the entire world lost something with your parents."
He frowned more. "No doubt you've heard about the Scramble Crossing incident. I... my team and I, serving AEGIS, we led the defense against the invaders and demolition of the control spire." Tadayoshi shook his head. "I'd like to tell you that, at least. But we were causing too much collateral. DATS was reactivated and intervened. They were the ones who negotiated a surrender and executed the demolition. I don't know how much you know, but you should know they're not just after invaders. Your digimon partners and my team are in their sights, too." He paused. "What I'm trying to say is, please be safe."

Rebecca turned around to see what Tadayoshi thought of the situation, expecting to see him laughing at the spies' misfortune like she was. She was pretty disappointed to see him actually seem guilty about doing it. "Come on, Yoshi, it's just a little fun. It's not like you murdered someone or robbed a store. Besides, they deserve it for going against what I asked them to do."
Eventually Tadayoshi turned to the dark side, laughing at Agumon and Gabumon try to wiggle their way out of the situation, exclaiming how good it felt to break the rules now and again. "As long as we don't go too far, there's nothing wrong with a little fun here and there, right?"
"No, you don't understand, we're just brothers," Gabumon said, trying to appease the waiters trying to congratulate them. "We were just trying to make sure our friends' date went well- please stop shoving that cake in my face!"
"Let's never come to this place again," Agumon told his brother, "the workers here are getting a little too close for comfort!"
"That's what you get for spying on us, traitors," Rebecca called out to the brothers, smirking the whole time. "And you better not follow us to the movie, either! Go back home!"
"R-Rebecca..." Gabumon gasps, before sighing in defeat. He and Agumon wished the two of them a good night and walked out of the restaurant.
"Phew, they're gone," Rebecca sighed. "I love those two to death, but they can be a bit too clingy sometimes. At least Gabumon has the sense to know when he is, at least. I'm done with my food... you wanna get to the movie now?"
As Rebecca listened to Tadayoshi speak, she listened as he explained what happened at Scramble Crossing, which Rebecca did hear about and saw the aftermath to. A group called DATS somehow single-handedly stopped a massive Digimon attack, something AEGIS couldn't do. He warned her that they would be after her Digimon, and he wanted Rebecca to be careful. "Yeah... yeah, I will be. Thank you for telling me."
They can stop threats like that? If I join them... then maybe I could find peace with myself...

As Rebecca explained that her digimon were loathe to leave her alone for long and why, Tadayoshi listened intently but, really, understood before even his date even opened her mouth. How could he not? After all, it was for all the same reasons as Gabumon and Agumon that the captain also insisted on staying by the General's side. Well, maybe not the exact same reasons as being nosy and clingy, but certainly highly protective of his charge. As he saw the just desserts of such an attitude appear before his eyes, he briefly wondered whether he wasn't endorsing a double standard for keeping his captain close by. "I understand perfectly. Believe me." Maybe there was something he could do about that double standard, but business came first.
"Let's go see that movie." Tadayoshi called for the check, and when it came he slid it across the table to Rebecca, honoring her earlier insistence to pick up the check. There was something of a cheeky smile on his face as he did it, too, having expected her to perhaps regret her choice after seeing the number of zero's on it. In either case he'd kindly thank the staff on his way out with Rebecca, smiling like a big old goofball and trying to keep his giddiness in check. At some point during the walk, however, he'd usher Rebecca into a dark alleyway. He didn't think of exactly how suspicious that might look because, well, he didn't have intentions that were anything of the sort. He only wanted the privacy to take his Loader from his pocket and order, "Commandramon, deploy."
"Yes, sir," the soldier dutifully acknowledged as he joined the real world. This was why he wanted the privacy of the ally. Soon as Commandramon realized, Tadayoshi threw his Loader upwards in the air, giving the dragon under a second to perk up and catch it before Tadayoshi's digital journey came to an untimely end. Commandramon's catch, however, was the boy's intention. "General!"
"I want to be alone for the rest of the night," Tadayoshi explained. "I know you're just doing your duty, but there are some things a little more important than that." Tadayoshi looked at Rebecca and smiled. "Please return to AEGIS HQ and keep the Loader safe until I come get it. I know you can get there without causing a stir, and I promise I'll come and get it before I go back home tonight."
"Sir, I'll leave, but your Loader-"
Commandramon held it out and tried to give it back while protesting, but Tadayoshi would have none of that. He just smirked cockily and waited for the digimon to stop speaking, at which point he shut down the captain's very well-thought out and long-winded argument with four simple words: "That's an order, soldier." On that note, he wrapped one arm around Rebecca's shoulders and tried to lead her back into the street on their way to the theater. "There... that should mean no more surprises for the night."

Now that dinner was over with, it was about time to catch that movie. Rebecca had picked out the movie beforehand, it was an anime movie with a pretty interesting concept, in her eyes. Of course the bill had to be paid and Rebecca was fully ready to accept it. However, she immediately regretted it after seeing the total bill:
6,000 Yen!
Rebecca sweatdropped when she saw this. Her forehead nearly went blue from shock as well. "Okay, I am never coming back to this restaurant. Their food is way too pricey." She took out the necessary amount of Yen and placed it on the table, although she was slightly mad about doing so. She walked out with Tadayoshi, thanking the staff as well, and began to follow him.
Although where he was leading Rebecca was very questionable. They were walking through a dark alley that kind of creeped Rebecca out. "Um, Tadayoshi, what are we doing out here?" she had to ask. Rebecca had even more questions when her date suddenly summoned Commandramon out.
What on Earth is he doing...?
Before she realized it, Tadayoshi had tossed his Loader to Commandramon and ordered the Digimon to return to AEGIS HQ. Rebecca's eyes widened as she realized what he was doing: actually providing the two of them the chance to be alone. Commandramon tried to argue back, and Tadayoshi also tried to argue back as well, eventually ending up with Tadayoshi winning in the end.
"You... you did that for me?" Rebecca asked after Commandramon left. "I... I don't know what to say. Thank you, Tadayoshi." To reward him, Rebecca gave Tadayoshi a small kiss on the cheek. She felt he earned that tonight. "And I promise, no more surprises. Come on, let's get to that movie."
After about five to ten minutes of walking, the couple had arrived at the movie theater. There were plenty of people there, but thankfully the line wasn't too long. Rebecca looked towards Tadayoshi with a worried look on her face. "When I'm myself, I... I'm not so good around strangers. Can you get the tickets? I can pay you back if you want."

The boy did feel guilty about sticking Rebecca with the check now that she had to shell out an amount like that, but then again she did very heavily insist on it. He supposed he would just make it up to her by picking up the tab for their second date, which was a thought he caught himself in as soon as he had it. Second date. Maybe it's a bit early to think about that, but... He swallowed. She's just so... Tadayoshi reached for the exact quality in her he was looking for that really sealed the deal for him, but he just couldn't work it out. It wasn't because she was pretty. That was for sure even if that was indeed true. Young male hormones? He certainly considered that possibility but didn't want to accept it.
Oh, well. He'd figure it out later or not, but he'd feel the same either way.
Things were oh, so much more peaceful without the worry of digimon antics. Worst case, Tadayoshi would just have to phone another AEGIS agent because now he was completely disarmed. That quickly proved problematic because when Rebecca kissed his cheek, he had no immediate response and no one to whisper in his ear. That meant he was left standing still and stunned a moment while blood gushed into both the cheek that Rebecca kissed and the one that she didn't. Good thing it was so dark outside! Still, no doubt Rebecca noticed the General's slightly wider eyes and momentary lapse in all thinking. In the end, all he could manage to make of that gesture was a stupid grin and a bit more of a spring in his step as they continued down their path.
This time, Tadayoshi flatly refused to let Rebecca open her purse again. His reasoning? "You got dinner, Rebecca. At least let me handle this." What could she do to fight him on it? It wasn't like she could make him take her money now or later, and she definitely couldn't speak to a box office attendant according to her own words. Once he had a ticket in hand another to pass to Rebecca, he remarked, "I have a paying job, too, y'know," while pulling his AEGIS badge only just far enough out of his front pocket to flash it to Rebecca a moment, quickly slipping it right back in. "I wish I could sing, but I can do what I do, and that's enough. Now, come on."
Tadayoshi proceeded to take one of Rebecca's hands in one of his and pull her along with him toward the snack counter. After ordering a large popcorn and a little pop for himself, he tried to intercept payment for whatever else Rebecca wanted, if anything. In the same manner he'd bring her to their adjacent seats and sneak frequent giddy looks back at her.

Even though it was dark and Rebecca couldn't see Tadayoshi's cheeks turning red, she could still see the facial expression he was making. It was like a mix of both surprise and pure joy all rolled up into one. He also just kinda stood there for an awkwardly long amount of time. "Um... are you okay, Yoshi?" Rebecca asked, afraid that she had made some kind of mistake.
And soon Tadayoshi began walking again, with Rebecca following after him. She noticed the huge grin on his face as they walked. It... kind of creeped her out, if she was honest. Hopefully she could ignore it as they walked right over to the movie theater.
Oh god, confrontation. Rebecca couldn't handle something as simple as buying movie tickets when she wasn't White Wolf. Luckily Tadayoshi insisted on buying the tickets this time, bragging about his AEGIS status. "Yeah, yeah, I know, Secret Agent Man. Thanks for buying the tickets, at least. And I'm sure you can sing if you wanted to."
After that they proceeded to buy the usual movie time snacks. Yoshi ordered popcorn and soda for himself, and asked what Rebecca wanted. "I'll have a share of your popcorn, and I'll have... hm... some root beer. Oh! And candy! A big box of candy! Doesn't matter which one!"
Now that snacks were taken care of, the couple walked towards the theater that their movie was playing in. On the way Rebecca stopped to admire some of the posters for other movies that were coming up. "Wow, look at all these neat movies coming out soon! Do any of them look interesting to you, Yoshi?"
There were three posters up at the moment: one poster was for a brand new superhero movie with a really badass-looking man in the center of the poster. The second poster was for a musical, with a man and woman dancing as the main highlight. And the third was for an anime movie, featuring an assortment of anthropomorphic animal characters and looked very pleasant.

As much as Tadayoshi personally enjoyed that 'secret agent' bit, but since it was so bluntly dispelled for him he had to dispel it for Rebecca, too. "It's been explained to me in no uncertain terms that I am a 'secret agent' only in the sense that I am an agent whose affiliation with a digimon-related group is best kept secret from the public at large. I'm really more like a police officer. Heck, these days I don't even get to go out a lot anymore." Tadayoshi stopped just short of mentioning his boss was on leave for her health. Maybe that information was a little too sensitive.
Encouraged about his singing ability, Tadayoshi shied away with a pained grimace and a shake of the head. "I almost hope you'll take back that compliment about my singing, but that would mean you heard my terrible voice. I would be the one apologizing to you." That was what he said just before buying some root beer for Rebecca as well as a box of enough Japanese chocolate bars to kill every dog in the city. Yoshi was about to escort his date into the theater just then, but since she stopped to admire a few posters he stopped with her.
Well, he was hardly a movie buff, but he was a highly analytical mind. He got the gist of it and offered Rebecca his opinion from that point of view. To the first poster he answered, "That... looks like an action film of some sort. It looks pretty good, too. You'd think having a team like mine would mean I couldn't appreciate it, but I bet it's a lot more fun to watch... though, heh, I'd probably spend the whole movie nitpicking it." His take on the second of the three posters was, "I think I like this one better. Those two look very happy, and I like happy endings. I feel like there aren't enough in real life. I also get more of a theater feel from that one, which despite bringing back bad memories of Mr. Nawabe strikes me as the more engaging mood." The third poster was the one he thought he could read best. It was the most distinctive and seemed to offer the most impression of just kind of movie it was. So Tadayoshi, ever the analytical mind, pointed at that poster last as he offered his carefully considered, well-thought out opinion of that movie: "No." He'd laugh at the stark contrast between the three reviews, which while only partly accidental did indeed fit the contrast between the three posters.

Leave it to Tadayoshi to both drain the fun out of his job description AND make Rebecca seem like a complete idiot for what she had just said. "That... great. Now I just feel kinda stupid. Thanks." Rebecca seemed a lot less happy towards Tadayoshi after that interaction.
Thankfully that disgust was short lived, with Tadayoshi once again undermining himself and doubting his musical ability. In response, Rebecca looked at her date with an innocent grin. "Well, why not prove yourself wrong? We should totally go to karaoke some other night. I bet you're singing is great, because I used to think I was terrible myself. And look where I am now?"
Rebecca was very happy to receive her root beer and big box of chocolate bars. One of her favorite drinks and one of her favorite snacks, watching one of her favorite types of movies in her favorite movie theater with her favorite guy... just one big night of favorites for Rebecca tonight! This date was going amazing, even after such a rocky start!
She was excited to hear what Tadayoshi had to say about each of the different posters. He gave two very insightful thoughts and one "No." Rebecca lightly pushed him, laughing a bit. "Oh come on, those animals look so cute! I'm gonna drag you to that movie and no one is going to save you," she jokingly threatened.
Nearly two hours later the movie had concluded. While the movie could've been different for everyone, Rebecca heavily enjoyed it. There were moments where she squeezed Tadayoshi's hand, or rested her head on his shoulder as they watched.
It would've been very romantic, if the movie itself wasn't a two-hour testosterone-induced explosion fest (with good characters and a good plot, of course.)
Alas, all dates must come to an end. After leaving the theater, Rebecca looked at the time and realized how late it was. "Oh god, I gotta get home! Thank you for an amazing night, Yoshi." And with a final goodbye kiss on the cheek, Rebecca would then walk out of the theater and make her way home, satisfied by what she considered to be an... almost perfect date.

Tadayoshi insulted her again. He cringed and hung his head a moment, but since Rebecca moved past it so did he. Nor did he dignify the suggestion that he try singing - in front of actual, live people - with a response either. That, too, made him clam up, though for a different reason: he was getting stage fright just thinking about it. Overall a policy of silence seemed to be what was serving him best tonight, so he thanked God that the remainder of the night was scheduled to be a strictly no-speaking activity.
But things had to be going OK nevertheless, right? After all, the last thing Rebecca said to him before walking inside was a playful joke - and that was just outside. Inside the theater - oh, that was a nice time. Obviously, Tadayoshi did not pick the right movie for a date, or so he judged compared to nothing but his intuition, Nevertheless, he spent much more time with someone else's hand in his than he had expected even if it wasn't quite as long as he might have hoped for either. That would have been unrealistic. Then again, he also thought that about having an arm around an idol with her head on his shoulder, but that sure as heck happened! Of course, at this point that girl wasn't White Wolf anymore, at least not as Tadayoshi's first association with her. The admiration for her didn't change.
A hasty exit Rebecca had to make following the film, but the boy was equally floored with the second cheek kiss as the first. "I- I'd love to see you again!" he only managed to call after her once she was nearly out the door. No matter whether she heard him, he felt confident he he would. In any case, he only left the building after a good fifteen seconds of reflection and gathering his wits. AEGIS HQ was much closer than home at this hour, and he didn't care to face his father's wrath, so he resolved to crash with the captain HQ tonight instead. No doubt Commandramon would ask how it went, but Tadayoshi had no objection to going over all of it while wearing the same goofy smile that carried him there. Silence has withdrawn.
